- "Great service" - "Our booking dates were June 24-25. One night. First off the experience was excellent. We pre-booked the private onsen room and was quite ample for a family of 4. Note private onsen room is an additional charge if 3300 yen. Reservation was made prior to our arrival. Everyone in our party wore bathing suits during the 1 hour of use. After 10 minutes everyone was sweating. The temperature of the hot springs were quite high and given time/season proved to be more than we cared for. But a must do experience and enjoyed the time before it got too hot. The room included the half board. Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. The Kaiseki dinner was excellent. Traditional Japanese dinner but elevated with sashimi, array of appetizer style dish including sliced duck, eel, figs and a ginger/onion gelatin, a small nabe dish and meat/vegetable cooked inside a small ceramic pot. Dinner also included traditional Japanese style pudding and mousse. Also note drinks are extra. Our kids only liked half of the dishes served. Breakfast was a mix of traditional Japanese style food and western dishes. Plenty of choices for everyone here. They also have a Karaoke room. We ended up using this after our dinner. This is also an extra charge, but lots of great fun. My only complaint is that on Expedia this is listed as a higher end hotel. Although the rooms were clean, they were very outdated. Our room had a faulty AC but the staff provided a fan. The staff was great and was very accommodating."

- "Staffs are friendly and polite. The view from open bath is marvels. We love this Japanese style hotel." - "The hotel is a bit run down, but it is very clean and the private onsen was incredible. I definitely recommend staying here if you are in Atami!" - "I've stayed at a few ryokans but this one was probably the most memorable. The hotel is close enough to a couple of JR train stations (useful if you're using the JR Pass to get around). I recommend getting a cab from Atami or Kinomiya Station, as the area is a bit hilly and there are lots of twists and turns. Luggage storage is available if you are like us and arrive before check in time! We had a large group and we were very pleasantly surprised at how large our room was--and even more delighted that there were shoji doors to help partition it up. The entire room was very clean, and were were provided yukata for our stay (always a bonus)! There's an indoor onsen, as well as a rooftop onsen, with the latter providing an amazing view of the town. Unfortunately we weren't able to book a kaiseki meal for dinner but if there's a way to book that over Expedia, that would be great. This would be my only suggestion for improvement for an otherwise amazing place. Lastly, the best part of our stay was the staff, hands down. For those who are wondering, there are English speaking staff members (especially the owner's daughter who happened to graduate from the same Vancouver, BC university as myself and one of our group members), so no need to worry about that. :) She (the owner's daughter) was especially helpful and even assisted us when we had issues putting a transaction on our credit card. Overall, this is a fantastic place to stay and I highly recommend it!"

- "The hotel is up a steep sloping street and in a quiet area. It has a traditional feel and the cafe is really nice and the hot springs, however there is no view, unless you pay for the private baths upstairs. The whole place could use a bit of a facelift, but more of an issue was the lack of service and the quality of the food, particularly dinner. We arrived too late for the 6:30 seating and was given the 7:00 p.m. seating. Clearly the appetizer box had been sitting out for a long time and the kobo croquet was dry and tasteless, the apple, kabocha and daikon (?!) tart was one of the worst combos of flavors I have ever had and the chicken was dry. The breakfast was better, but the chicken left over from dinner was served as some new dish and was worse than the night before. We were not offered coffee or tea with breakfast and when we asked for salt, pepper and milk were told that they didn't 'have' them, which of course they do. We went to the cafe after breakfast to get another cup of coffee and the machine was out of beans. One of my friend's I was traveling with lost her phone and we asked the front desk to check the restaurant and cafe and were told that no one had found it. My friend went down in the morning and checked under the seat where we were sitting and, there it was. Just for a bit of perspective, I have lived in Japan for 30 years and chose this hotel because I wanted to stay within my friend's budget, and feel it was still too much for the experience."

The space
"Balmoral" is a unique multi leveled Spanish Style Villa set atop a hillside, with panoramic views of the Sagami Bay. The top floor, (which is on street level!) houses the huge high ceilings of the living room, is many leveled and also has the Dining room and kitchen.

The entry level has your guest room, (that consists of a double bed + two folding beds, if necessary). On the same floor is also the hosts private bedroom and study. A bathroom and another toilet, are located on the lower floor.

*Please note that the guest room is your only own room. There are 2 separate toilets. The Living room, Dining room and Bathroom are for common use.


Please note: There are no shops and restaurants at all, in the hills, please buy something if needed before coming up to Balmoral.

The host is happy to offer Cooking Demo Lesson( two at minimum) upon your request in advance .

Balmoral is 5 minutes by taxi from Ajiro Station. (JR Ito Line)

Route 1: (60 to 90 mins): By Shinkansen Line - Tokyo or Shinagawa Stations to Atami and then change at Atami to Ajiro by "Ito Line".

Route 2: (90 to 100 mins): By Marin Express Odoriko or Super View Odoriko or Odoriko Express: From Tokyo or Shinagawa Stations to Ajiro.

Route 3: (90 -120 mins): (3 trains) Shinjuku to Odawara by Odakyu Romance Car or Odakyu Line and Odawara to Atami by JR Tokai line, then Atami to Ajiro by Ito line or Izukyu

*Please bring a toothbrush, towels and nightwear by your own. Manchester is provided by host.

Other things to note
I do not recommend my place to the guest who does not like dogs and/or has allergenic problems from dogs. If you stay for more than two nights I would rather you to explore/walk around Izu than just staying all day in the house.

[Recommended for spending time in Yugawara]
The facility is in a great location.
For example, on Friday afternoons, mothers and children use the train and bus to check in before their father.

When you arrive, you can take a stroll through Okuyugawara and an 8-minute walk to the nearby sweet spot (Murosada), and along the way, there are shooting ranges and souvenir shops.

After your father arrived by car at night, you can enjoy a little luxurious time if you go to the wine bar (Blue Taro) and the beer stand (8 minutes on foot), which is a 5-meter walk away.On Saturdays, get up early and go to the Sea Fishing Facility of Atami Port on the Manazuru Peninsula and Atami Port, why not try fishing or playing on the island?

On Sundays, you may want to get up later than usual, eat brunch at Newwell City Yugawara (2 minutes on foot), and drive home on the Hakone side with less traffic than the sea side.

It is a loan of the second floor part of the villa!We do not rent one building.Rest assured, it is not connected to the first floor.
It is registered as Zhenbaijing on the TV "Nanicore Zhen Hundred Views"!
From the barbecue deck, you can see Atami Castle, Oshima, and fireworks in the front of the first island, and you can see the Boso Peninsula on a sunny day!Some rooms see fireworks from the room.On the other side is the mountains and views from the bath.You can also get to the gondola (lift) from the road to the villa entrance.The movement is slow, but the amusement park is full of excitement.

It is a 10-minute drive from Atami Station and a 5-minute drive from Komiya Station.
You can get in to the front of the building, but the road where you can park is on a steep hill, so I recommend coming in with a back.

If you book a parking lot on the 2nd floor, there is free private parking on the way of the Naritasan Kaichoin if you book the first floor.

There is no convenience store within walking distance, so please prepare ingredients at a large supermarket in Max Value.

Another group is reserved on the first and second floors of the same building, but it is not connected inside, and I think that the voice will not leak much because the first floor is made of concrete, but please be careful of loud voices outside.

The space
There are two rooms with 2 double beds.
You may use it alone for two couples.
Extra futons are available, so more than 11 people can accommodate more than 11 people by laying them in the living room.

Guest access
The road in front of the building can be parked for a short time, but please park in the correct parking space after unloading your passengers and luggage.

Other things to note
The barbecue is located on the second floor, the balcony is on the second floor, and the wooden deck is on the first floor.

Please prepare your own ingredients when you have a barbecue.
