The river itself such a calming presence; a natural white noise machine. We found gold pans in the closet and were able to walk down a little path and pan for gold. If you go across the bridge, there’s a trail that takes you down the river, but it was cut off from other trails by the recent floods. My husband built this original home 20 years ago. Here we raised our three children before “living small” was popular. Over the past four years we added a detached home next to it where we now reside. We reserve “The Cove” for children to come back to and for YOU to come visit for a wonderful Alaska stay.

Your (900 sq ft) private space includes the main entrance and bedroom with full size murphy bed, on lower level with rear exit leading to back yard and fire pit. Upper level includes kitchen, dining and seating area with spacious deck and barbecue, as well as, bedroom with queen bed, laundry, and shower only bathroom.

The location is 10 min from the airport. Situated in popular Auke Bay with a new Brewery, dining options, and whale watching boats, fishing and kayaking available. “Out the road” find more beaches and tourist attractions including one of my favorites, The Shrine of St. Therese. The Mendenhall Glacier is also in close proximity which is a must see. I especially like the walk to Nugget Falls water fall.

An assortment of cereals and baked goods is provided. In the family room there is a dining table, chairs, two comfortable recliners and a large flat screen TV. The book cases contain many Alaskan books for your enjoyment during your stay. At the end of a busy day relax and enjoy the comfort of bamboo sheets in either the Eagle or Raven Suite. The Eagle Suite is 200 square feet, has a queen sized bed, 78 square feet en suite bath with tub and dual shower heads. There is a reading area and a flat screen TV. The Raven Suite is 130 square feet and has a queen size bed, flat screen TV and private bath with a step in shower and dual shower heads. In floor heating throughout will help keep you comfortable. All linens are washed in allergy free detergent. Alaskan art work decorate the walls of all the rooms which also have spectacular views of Auke Bay and the garden.

The view of downtown Juneau; the quiet of the surrounding forest / mountainside; and the clean and modern comforts will make this home one you won't want to leave. We have sourced furnishings from as far as Turkey, and as close as our parent's house! The house is a new(ish) build, finished in 2015. Rent it out with the adjacent side (Sourdough Suite VRBO #699575) and you can accommodate twelve.
We do reserve the house for stays of 5 nights or longer when booking further out than 30 days and 7 nights or longer when booking 60 days or more in advance. Exceptions are made so feel free to ask. Likely reasons we would give an exception: If the stay fit well with an existing adjacent stay on the calendar (no long gaps in between); If the dates are in the shoulder seasons (not June - August); If you were wanting both sides for a longish stay...
Each side has the living area on the second floor along with a master bedroom. The upstairs bathroom has (2) doors, one directly to the master and one to the living space. The first floor has the second two bedrooms, another full bathroom and a laundry room, plus a large entry for dumping all your gear. One parking space at the top of the driveway is provided and there are 3-4 steps up to the first floor from the car door.

- "Susan's house was as described but the pictures do not do it justice. From cleanliness to supplies to comfort, the rental was perfect for our 3 generation family's needs. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was easy to navigate and well equipped. The bathrooms were spotless!! The family room had comfortable, adequate seating. The location was also great. While a car was needed, it was within close proximity of the airport, groceries, and hikes. The downtown area was easy to access but was not our cup of tea with all the cruise ships."

Within 300 feet of the Governor's Mansion, this comfortable, well maintained, 1 bedroom apartment is private and has all the amenities, including off-street parking. But, a car is not necessary since most everything in downtown Juneau is within 5 to 10 minute walking distances. Within a few minutes and in different directions you can walk to the Governor's Mansion, Capitol and State Office Building, two museums (Juneau and Alaska State), a major supermarket, popular restaurants, Cope Park with access to Basin Road and the Mt. Juneau, Mt. Roberts, and Perseverance hiking trails.

The building is a four-plex and is part of the Governor's Mansion Historic Neighborhood Association.

It is a pleasant 5-minute walk to downtownJuneau past the governor’s mansion. Outside there is a shared deck with a view. It gets lots of sunshine and you can watch the cruise ships come and go. Visitors are welcome to use the games and children’s books/games as well as books in the book case. There’s free on-street parking but no parking available on-site.

Our home provides you a comfortable stay in a historic quiet neighborhood in downtown Juneau. We are close walking distance to Juneau’s core with cafes, restaurants and shopping. You might want to stroll the waterfront boardwalk along Gastineau Channel and see a big breaching whale fountain and plaza, cultural and art museums along the way. Cope Park is practically in our back yard, a jump off point leading to excellent hiking trails.

The space
By coded keyless entry, you will enter a comfortable, colorful, cheery basement space filled with art!

The living area is warmed by an electric fireplace, comfy couch and library filled with books mostly about art, feel free to peruse the books! The wi-fi extender is also located in this area.

There are two bedrooms to choose from, one with a queen size bed and one with a full sized bed. You may store your luggage in the room you are not using if there are only two of you.

The kitchen has a refrigerator, range and microwave, coffee maker, toaster, egg maker and blender, cooking utensils and spices, dishes and flatware. A washer/dryer is also located here.

The bathroom is stocked with towels and bath and toilet amenities. A first aid kit is also located in the medicine cabinet.

Our home is a non-smoking, no-party, alcohol and drug-free home. We would appreciate if you refrain while here.

A small working art studio is adjacent to the living room, and not used when we have airbnb guests. But please free to ask Pua about her artwork!

There is a small outdoor seating area up the stairs that gets great morning sun, and good for having morning coffee. There is also an outdoor charcoal grill for your use if you wish.

Just a note: depending on the weather, we may need to enter to adjust the heating valves (warmer or cooler) downstairs, but will always let you know first.

Whether you are flying in or taking the ferry in, head south towards downtown Juneau. If you have a car, please park in front of the garage doors, right next to the concrete path.

Walk along the little concrete path between the garage and the house and continue left until you see the stairs going down. There are about 8 stairs down to our Airbnb guest quarters. It is a keyless entry, (we'll text you the 4 digit code prior to your arrival). Upon entering, you will see Pua's art studio and sitting room; make a left to the kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms. Feel free to use this entire space, including the sitting room adjacent to the art studio.

We generally like to meet and greet our guests and give a home tour; but in this time of covid, we are still taking precautions.

Other things to note
Our home was built in the 40’s (about 80 years old) in a historic neighborhood near a historic park. You may enjoy walking to Cope Park, a beautiful evergreen forest within 2 blocks. Gold Creek is a cold clear creek than can be followed to the old mining boardwalk (the flume) leading to the Mining Museum, Perseverance trail and Granite Basin beyond. Or, you may choose to walk along the waterfront and boardwalk to downtown Juneau starting at Overstreet Plaza with a breaching bronze whale fountain and totem poles carved by native carvers throughout the region. Or you can walk through the developing ‘arts district’ where the Alaska State Museum, Centennial Hall and Juneau Arts and Culture Center are located. You may want to walk across the bridge by 10th street to Douglas Island. . . you will find a sandy beach and the historic Treadwell mining trail there, as well as a library and world class Perseverance Theater, a performing arts venue.

If you are interested in learning about the native culture, Leonard co-host) is Tlingit from the village of Angoon (about 80 miles SW of Juneau) and can share a story or two with you. He is also known locally as the "Tlingit Elvis"! And certainly, if you are interested in art, Pua can share her process with you.

Guests have full access to the whole downstairs apartment as well as the small patio area directly outside the apartment.

Other things to note
The house, over 100 years old, has its charming quirks and distinctive features. While you might encounter creaks and squeaks, we're positive our fantastic downtown location will more than make up for it.

Please also note that the house is situated halfway up a steep hill. If you have mobility concerns or heavy luggage, we recommend arranging transportation in advance. Although there are no stairs, accessing the apartment and its amenities requires stepping up and down comfortably.

We kindly ask that guests refrain from eating on the beds or getting makeup on the linens, as some stains can be difficult to remove. We appreciate your understanding, as this helps us continue offering a wonderful spot for future guests.
