For your next vacation in the Temiskaming Shores area, consider a home rental in Haileybury as an hotel alternative. With its eclectic design, The Little Crooked House is unique and will certainly enchant you. The Little Crooked House is perfect for a person, a couple, or a small family. In summer, the backyard is very charming with the BBQ and outdoor fireplace. In addition, the house is located near the public beach, the marina and the bike path.
The house, which no one else is using during your stay, is 600 square feet, is very cozy and has everything you need: living room, dining room, kitchen, one bedroom, office with a view of Lake Temiskaming, bathroom, back porch, back deck with BBQ and front patio. The office has a pull-down double bed if required.
- "My daughters stayed with their children and they were amazed not only for the cleanliness of the house but also the little attention that were prepared for them. Very fast communication with the owner as I was making reservation for them and quick follow-up as we were getting ready for the stay!" - "Luc and Louise were such wonderful, helpful hosts. The Crooked House had everything thoughtfully considered for the comfort of the guests - from the welcome package in the fridge to just how well equipped the property was. That it was so close to the beach and the water slide was such a plus for my kid. We really enjoyed our stay in this wonderful town, mostly because of our comfortable stay and hope to return!"

- "Great quiet place for a visit. Clean and newly renovated. Lots of room for a family and includes ping pong table and foosball table. " - "Good communication with the host. Great stay. Beautiful kitchen. The only little bad thing is the sound of the sump pump running all the time." - "Property is very nice and communication with the owner was easy. He was very responsive and helpful with our needs. TV’s are available, but guests need to cast to them from an app. The provided WiFi is more than capable of allowing for this from your devices.Due to the high water table, the sump pump does run often. We didn’t notice it from the bed rooms when sleeping though. We would recommend this property and owner if visiting the area."

- "We booked this room for a Monday and Wednesday night. When we arrived we realized that the room was not even close to what was advertised. We were very disappointed with the quality of the room and told the host later that evening that we wanted to cancel our second night. Even though the ad said that there were free cancellations we were told that he would have to find another renter in order to refund our money. He later said he was unable to find another and we need to talk to Expedia to get our refund. We are unable to find a way to discuss this with Expedia."

- "Fantastic, everything...couple suggestions...hooks along the wall across from the foot of the bed in the bedroom to hang wet towels, clothes, etc. Also maybe a small shelf in the shower to place soaps, etc. Our family was in the next cabin, may we suggest a curtain(not sheer) or blind in the bathroom, standing at the fire pit in between cabins you can see right into that bathroom...yikes...luckily it was family noticed and not strangers. Other than that, absolutely fantastic! The view across...beautiful!"

Nestled just outside Tomstown, ON, this charming Airbnb offers a unique stay in a converted grain storage building on one of the area’s original farms. The granary’s original frame and siding have been lovingly preserved, blending rustic charm with modern comfort. Inside, you’ll find a cozy queen bed, a sofa bed, and a full 4-piece bathroom. Enjoy stunning sunrises from the inviting front porch or gaze at the expansive sky around the bonfire. A peaceful and memorable escape awaits!
The space
Perfect spot for your summer get-away! The granary is located on a working farm, between the main house and barn. While the space is private and separate, it’s not in a secluded area, so there may be some farm activity nearby. Explore the woods and blaze a trail down to the Blanche River, take a stroll through the fields, or relax on the wraparound porch and enjoy the serene surroundings. We can’t wait to host you!
Guest access
Guests have exclusive access to the Granary and the open grassy area just south of it, next to the barn—perfect for relaxing outdoors.
Parking is located at the main house, and it’s approximately a 200ft walk to the Granary. If the weather is dry and you prefer, feel free to drive down the path and park in front of the Granary.
While the Granary is private and exclusively yours, please note it’s situated on a working homestead, so you will likely see and hear children and activity near the barn or main house during your stay.
Other things to note
Escape to the North and enjoy a relaxing getaway or an adventure-filled stay! Centrally located near stunning lakes, it’s the perfect spot to experience the beauty of Northern life and create lasting memories.
Things to know:
- We have good, unlimited wifi here through Starlink, but please know that cell phone reception isn't great. In the off chance that the wifi cuts out, reset the router by unplugging it and then plugging it back in.
- Bedding for the sofa bed and extra folding chairs are stored in the loft, accessed by a straight-up ladder in the bedroom area. Guests are welcome to use the loft but should exercise caution, as the ladder is steep and the loft railing does not have spindles. Please be mindful when in this space.
- If you are using the sofa bed, please be aware that the space in the main area is tight when the sofa bed is opened as it encroaches on the space where the table is located. You may wish to collapse the bed when not using it for sleeping in order to better move around in the main area.
- There are several very friendly and sociable cats at the farm. They love extra cuddles and will try to sneak into the granary if you let them. They do however have a very comfortable, insulated home at the house :)
No smoking, e-cigs, vaping, etc inside the Granary
No unapproved guests during your stay
No pets

Also, you can ask the site manager for some salt to improve the grip on your path to the parking

Can be an absolute dream to enjoy the water reflections from each room. The Cabin, an articulated 13 corners structure on two levels, face the lake on three sides being 5 to 10 mt from the water and is the only waterfront cabin and the only one visible while canoeing (1 Kevlar and 1 fiberglass ) the 500 acres lake, of the two only Private property on the lake...
The living room kitchen open space has 7 windows/glass doors so you can enjoy the lake from every point. Plenty of chairs in case you want to bring some outside to enjoy special spots. A hammock for Two give you further optionality to relax outside and feel the loons calls and the wind in the wood... Two red-cedar Muskoka chairs to better enjoy the deck and the dock.

The cabin is built over a tongue of rock and pines with a gentle slope on the east side that smoothly enter the lake and a steeper west side where the stairs and the dock is built to admire sparkling sunsets. On the south-east edge near the waters there is a spot for a fire (make sure to proper master it). On the south and west side of the cabin a deck follow the structure and give you a chance to stay outside when it rains next to the kitchen. Two or three steps and you are on the stairs to the dock from which to dive in the lake and enjoy the sun and the sunset at its best.
On the first floor there is the master bedroom which can be separated from the other bedroom or kept as an open space with a view on the lake and an overlooking above the living room. A detailed wall map in the main bedroom give you a further way to plan your vacation and enjoy the thousands lakes and canoe routes around.
Two family of Loons live the lake and you can usually see them near the cabin or from the canoe and hear them day and night. The water is warm in summer to feel the lake embrace and being from spring water you can see and feel its purity. The lake is calm most of the time and gives you many chances to see the stars while paddling at night.
A wood stove makes you, especially in winter times, enjoy the warmth while overlooking the snow and the frozen lake..

WINTER SEASON
During the winter season, the costs to keep the parking and the road open and / or depending on the option chosen the transport by snowmobile add up to others linked to septic and, eventually, higher rates follows while min staying is forced to a 5 nights min ...
To those who love seclusion, surprising sensations grow while, wrapped in a blanket inside the cabin, the fire in the wood stove, a smooth and pristine view emerge after a copious and precious snow fall.... a snowshoe trekking call on the lake becomes irresistible... to be sure you enjoy the experience, we provide three pair of snowshoes at the cabin and a wooden sleight.
There is only one other neighbor living sometimes on the lake... you can only see their dock from the lake but not the cabin. The lake is from spring water and is really unique having two consecutive sections completely secluded and so bright in the sunshine. Once studied the map I strongly suggest to go and discover them as they are really gems you'll enjoy. There are two families of loons living on the lake and few otters you might see. Two little islands on the main section of the lake, the first on your east, the second on the south-west from the cabin. Lots of WHITE WATER LILY on your way and two owls at night. Two guests last summer had northernlight seeing from the dock! One thing I still miss so much!!
Nearby are outfitters for trekking, summer canoeing adventures and dog-sledding, country skying, others activities/expedition in wintertime.
* The Temagami tower for a nice overlooking of the area is a must while in Temagami as some beautiful portage with the canoe on the thousand in the vicinity.
* Bear Island from the Temagami Hub is another worth visit to be done, also home of one of the two old growth red and white pine forest in the area.
Bear Island is an island in Lake Temagami, it is the second largest island after Temagami Island.
Bear Island is home to the Temagami First Nation, the Teme-Augama Anishnabai (the deep water people).

Some of the main tourist attractions within the community include beside old-growth red and white pine, Lake Temagami, Caribou Mountain, fishing, showings of Grey Owl from the 1930s, and over 4,000 km of canoe routes. You'll also find the most detailed map of the area on the wall in your room for a easy expedition planning while at the cabin.

Due to allergen considerations of other guests we ask that it be a non-shedding dog.
There is no wifi service but depending on your service provider you will be able to access the internet through your cellphone or tablet; myself and other guests used cellphones or hotspots and lately the 3/4g reception have been improved and since last year you’ll have 2 /3 bars inside and above three outside. There is also free wifi high speed internet connection available at the Temagami library in Temagami.
As we have now two canoes you will be able to go altogether on Whitney Lake and discover the hidden sections and seclusion of it… we love them… since recent Temagami Outfitting co has opened again after many years and they offer rentals of further equipment beside what you already have at our cabin in case you’d like to experiment some trapper activities near the lake or to explore remote section of lake Temagami… they also have a nice restaurant we tried in late December and it’s quite good…
The Place is private and on a Natural Reserve. Lea Architects, the designers of the cabin suggested us to choose colors from the site ones so the structure would merge with the surrounding environment. Their suggestions gave us an open unique perspective of the lake. The wood structure with Western Red Cedar siding have been built without cutting trees, but adjusting its position accordingly.
All the best and let’s keep in touch.

In case of High Speed internet while in town there is free wifi high speed internet connection available inside and from outside the Temagami Public library.
From the parking lot do not drive to the door as the 10 mt path to the cabin go above the Septic tanks.
As for fishing here are some guests suggestions as I'm not a fisherman and prefer to offer guests suggestions :
"The trout fishing here is spectacular, at no point did we set off by canoe and not land beautiful trout. The first night we kept 2 trout as we had brought all the ingredients for fish tacos except fish. The rest of the time was catch and release only for us. Some tips for the non-anglers out there: we had most success using #2/#3/#4 Mepps spinners, in fact all the trout we caught everyday was on spinners with gold being the lucky colour. While casting off the canoe produced fish the best method for us was trolling about 30 feet of line in the canoe. The best producing time was after 5pm with fish activity going crazy."
We opted for airbnb to collect All Taxes, no 13% HST to be added/collected locally as with some listing. So the Airbnb booking price will be all included for our listing
You must also agree our cabin cannot be elected as a place to quarantine or where you can isolate for Covid 19 related needs.
Hope this helps

Fisherman's and/or Hiker's Cottage!
We use this as a family cottage and find it has everything we need.
It doesn't have an indoor toilet. Outhouse only and there is no running water which means no shower.
This is a cottage in the wilderness of Northern Ontario and just rustic enough that you don't forget that. That is what makes it perfect to us and what we hope you love too.
Bring your small boat and use natural boat launch and dock, conveniently situated in front of cottage.
The space
This small cottage has the basic amenities with no frills.
Bring your sleeping bags and pillows to make sure you have a good night sleeps in one of the two rooms.
The kitchen has a propane stove but NO OVEN. The fridge and lights are also propane. There is no electricity so make sure you bring your battery packs for any electronics. The cell signal works for calls, texts, and normal internet uses, but doesn't work very well for video conferencing.
Lake is a deep with many shoals, makes for an opportunity to troll for trout. There is also bass, pickerel, and pike.
The closest small town is 15 minutes away and the closest town with major stores is 45 minutes away. Great for experiencing the wilderness but bad when you forget something.
Whether you are hiking, hunting, or fishing this place makes a great base camp.
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire cottage.
Boat launch and dock are perfect for small boats.
Access to one canoe with paddles, guests must bring their own life jackets.
Other things to note
There is no shower on the premises. You can experience the joy of jumping in a spring fed lake to wash up or carry water to have a sponge bath beside the fire. There is no running water in the cottage and it must be carried from the lake to do dishes in the sink. I supply 16 Litres of purchased drinking water.
