- "This was a great place to stay. It was close to downtown Gruene so we could walk to Gruene Hall. The apartment was very spacious and had plenty of great furniture. the upstairs had a full bathroom, a sitting area with a tv and a bedroom with a door for privacy. I'm not sure why but I was expecting a loft style bedroom. The downstairs had a very spacious master bedroom and the bed was very comfortable. there was also a half bath downstairs and a large laundry room with washer and dryer. In May you may be lucky to spot beautiful pink roses growing on the dam - out of the reach of hungry deer. One day an elderly woman greeted my friend at the creek, explaining that she had grown up there, swimming and playing on hot summer days, long before any of us discovered this paradise. She explained that her father had planted those roses, some ninety years previous, in the perfect spot apparently as they are thriving there today. We named this special place after her and her daddy's roses, so named The River Rose Retreat, where you and yours can drink in the unique and restorative smells, sounds, and eye candy, the absolute best of the Texas hill country.

This listing is for the whole property of the River Rose Retreat. There are two houses, a small casalita and a bunkhouse. We also rent individually but provide a reduced price for renting the whole property. Martha has unique colorful style that gives the property a fun vacation feel. The property is situated on the seasonal Lone Man Creek with many outdoor sitting areas, fire pit and multiple bbq pits. This would be a great location for small family/friend/group get togethers or workshops. We have creek views, access and a dammed private swimming hole.

The Treetop house has a small sitting pool with a deck that overlooks the beautiful hill county horizon. There is a hand lain fire pit with seating, a balcony, screened porch, a hammock and two picnic seating areas. The treetop has two king size bedrooms, two queen size couch beds and 3 full bathrooms, three tvs and a large open concept living room/kitchen/dining with creek views. Sleeps 8.

The Watermelon house has a beautiful covered raised wrap around porch with the best creek views in the place. The porch has a swing and a table for 4. The watermelon house has a king size bedroom, queen size couch bed, full kitchen, two tvs and two full bathrooms. There is a charcoal and two propane grills in the courtyard between this house and the casalita. Sleeps 4.

The Casalita Rosalita is a small free standing apartment. The casalita has a king size bed, small dining area, full kitchen, two tvs and full bathroom. Sleeps 2.

The Bunkhouse has a tv, mini fridge, twin bed and creek views. Sleeps 1.

Total the property sleeps 15 adults in beds. The whole property is dog friendly. Dogs should be leashed while on the property. We have a pet fee that varies depending on the total number of dogs.

We have reliable wifi but most cell carriers do not work on the property. We have a satellite "land line" for calls.

We do not allow fishing of any kind not even catch and release.
