Comes complete with free range chickens. We will provide you with a half loaf of farm bread and fresh eggs for breakfast. Check availability as our caravan is currently used for emergency accommodation.
The space
The caravan is situated in a field on the property with outbuildings hiding it from the main road.
There are 2 other caravans on site.
This caravan is called "Joy" and is separate from the other two caravans. It has the best view of a rolling hillside with a few places to sit outside or
A cabin with, board games and a variety of reading paraphernalia if the weather is bad. This cabin is lit by candlelight.
A wood/coal barbecue is available (bring your own charcoal or wood or for a small fee of €6 we can provide wood)
There are free range chickens, two cats and a friendly dog freely walking around. Also a horse (or two) might be in the field or woodland, but only if there is enough grass.
If you like a bit of outdoors you could enjoy a walk in the private woods. Wellies of all sizes are available at the front door of the main house for this walk, as the area is rugged.
We offer a dog sitting service for a few hours at night so you can enjoy Westport town.
Note that it is a back to basics accomodation with a small undercounter fridge, a kettle, a hotplate, a small air fryer, pots, pans and a toaster. (no microwave)
Included in the price is 2 x free range eggs, half a loaf of home baked farm bread, butter, limited tea bags /herbal teas instant coffee and 1lmilk. Bring your own groceries for anything more. Alternatively Westport has many great restaurants or you could order takeaway's.
Be aware that this is an original 1960s caravan, therefore there is no shower only a cassette toilet. Which works surprisingly well. However...
For an extra €5 you can use the shower in the main house. We provide fresh towels (just let us know as we need 20mins to heat the water. )
and please Don't forget the earplugs as the rooster chorus starts at the crack of dawn and is intermittent and lengthy.
And very importantantly we want to inform you that recently there is a family of foxes catching our hens and killing our neighbours lambs and other livestock. We have caught 2 foxes and rehomed them, but there is a chance all the chickens will be gone when you arrive. Please be aware that we have a "humane- cage" fox trap in the woodland.
Guest access
You have free access to the outside seating areas and barbecue facilities. You are free to walk the entire field.
You might enjoy a walk in our Woodland, however even on a dry day this will require wellies. (various SIZES FOR MALE AND FEMALE are AVAILABLE)
Other things to note
The chickens are fully free range and have access to our entire property. Being country bumpkins they are illiterate and don't understand "no-entry" signs or the bunting boundaries and might wander into your area. Especially as they make their way to the coop at nightfall. We do a clean sweep of your area before your arrival yet they always manage to replant "landmines" during your stay. So keep your eye out. They are very sociable, however only two have been allowing us to pet them. You can just shoo them away if they bother you. They also love scraps of food and will come flapping and flying to get some. When you are outside they will keep you company. If you don't want this... Shoo them away, or throw some scraps of food down our side of the garden away from you. Be aware that "Loretta" the plucky hen is in charge of inspection and will perch on the half door to say hello.
