- "Fantastic house and super relaxing!" - "Beautiful home in peaceful location. The hosts have provided wonderful amenities to make your stay special. " - "Fantastic. The house was well stocked and our host was awesome from start to finish. The kids loved the home and all the fun stuff outside. This was one of our favorite trips up to the Island. The house was much more that we imagined, we had a blast." - "This property is beautiful! The house is lovely with lots of really well thought-out details and the location is perfect for a nice, quiet, relaxing get-away. My 8-year old nephew stayed downstairs and it was great that he had his own bathroom. 6 adults (3 couples) stayed upstairs and we were all very comfortable. Our only complaint was that the downstairs room, being adjacent to the garage, was quite a bit colder than the upstairs. But otherwise we really loved the space, especially the main kitchen/living room/dining room area. We also took the kayaks out two days in a row - so fun! "

- "Katie and Gloria are exceptional hosts! They have great hospitality and communication that made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. The location and house are equally as amazing. Being on Anderson Island allowed us to get much needed seclusion from the city life. You will need to take the ferry, so plan accordingly. The house is directly on the beach with views of the water and Mt Rainier from the lower and upper level patios, the living room and back bedrooms. The views were amazing even when it rained. Katie and Gloria stocked the house with more than enough linen, towels, and furniture which were all in good condition. We highly recommend this house and Katie and Gloria as hosts."

Enjoy island life at its finest! You'll see more deer, eagles and seals than people. You won't be in close contact with anyone the entire time you're here. You'll be secluded on the eastern shore of Oro Bay on Anderson Island, about 90 minutes from Seattle. Enjoy the view and all the beauty the Puget Sound has to offer. Kayak, paddle board, beach comb, golf and experience some of the most amazing sunsets you'll ever see.
This secluded, spacious and sunny 2,500 square foot beach home, just steps from the beach, has everything you need to create memories to last a lifetime. Enjoy your time with friends and family and still have plenty of privacy when you want it.
There are two upstairs master bedroom suites. The South Suite has a king bed, vaulted ceilings, ensuite with a jetted tub. The North Suite has a queen bed and a single daybed, and ensuite. Both bedroom suites have flat screen TVs and private decks with spectacular ocean and island views. On the main level is a third bedroom with a queen sized bed. There is another full bath with washer and dryer also on the main level.
There's a cozy living room with a leather (sleeper) sofa and a very cozy sun room , both great for relaxing and enjoying the sunset or watching the 48" flat screen TV.
Our Anderson Island home has great Wi-Fi and Direct TV.
The fully equipped kitchen, kitchen bar and dining area open to the huge entertainment deck. On the deck you'll find a hot tub, propane grill, propane fire table and a complete set of patio furniture. Just a few steps to the beach where you'll have 3 kayaks and 2 stand up paddle boards at your service at no additional charge. The calm waters of Oro Bay make for some of the smoothest paddling you'll find anywhere. A short paddle across the bay brings you to Jacobs Point Park Marine Reserve with 82 acres of natural habitat and over a mile of pristine, undisturbed beach. This is the largest natural reserve in the entire Puget Sound. Expect to see our resident seals, heron, deer and eagles. More experienced paddlers can circle the island or head for nearby Ketron Island. If you're lucky you'll see the Orca and Humpback whales that frequently visit southern Puget Sound. If you'd like to bring your own boat we have a buoy right in front of the house.
Whatever you like to do, Anderson Island is a great place to do it.Many of our guests enjoy the natural beauty of the Puget Sound from the air-conditioned comfort of our home. If you feel more adventurous, there's lots to do on island. Golf at the Riviera Golf course and enjoy meals or drinks at the clubhouse restaurant overlooking Lake Josephine. Hike or bike the many parks and trials including Andy's Marine Park. Explore the many beaches of the island shores, bays and coves. Visit our local historical museum. Swim and fish in one of our 3 fresh water lakes including our famous "Old Swimming Hole" or take in a yoga class at our local community club studio. If you'd like to venture to the mainland, you'll find some great shops, restaurants, and spas in historical town of Steilacoom, all within walking distance of the mainland ferry dock. The Chambers Bay Golf Course, site of the 2015 U.S. Open, is just a few minutes drive from the Steilacoom ferry dock.
Please note that there is a maximum occupancy in our home of 6 total guests (strict rule). Our base rate is calculated for 4 guests. For parties of 5 or more, we charge an additional $20/per guest/per night (including kids) even if they are not staying the entire visit.
Purchase groceries for your stay on the mainland in advance of catching the ferry to the island. There is a general store on the island with fairly limited grocery items like milk, bread, snacks, coffee, beverages, beer and wine.
- "We stayed for our annual girls weekend and it was perfect! Lovely house and a gorgeous view. The hosts were very responsive and accommodating!" - "Pricey stay but had all we were looking for. Communication with owner/manager top notch. Great stay overall..." - "Everything as described if not better. Great stay for the family. Would definitely come again." - "The property is beautiful, bring your own food." - "The house is incredibly peaceful. It was very very clean and the kitchen is well stocked. The check in process felt somewhat cumbersome, and there were a lot of rules. However, we mixed up our check out date and consequently checked out late, which they were very nice about. It would be nice if they would just buy some towels for the Beach and hot tub rather than requiring that you bring them. But we slept well, watched beautiful sunsets, hiked all over the island and generally had a really lovely time at Donn and Betty's place. There aren't any board games so bring your own!"

We have moved, because of our work schedules, to a 7 night Sunday-Sunday minimum stay during peak season (mid-June to mid-September).
Anderson Island is one of the best kept secrets in the Pacific Northwest, and especially unique because of its quiet atmosphere and tranquility even while enjoying remarkable proximity to Seattle, Tacoma, and even Portland. Typically one would have to travel a great distance to experience the serenity and seclusion of Island life, yet it is provided by a short 20 minute ferry ride from Steilacoom, which is just southwest of Tacoma.
The Lakefront Getaway is a 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath home with an additional open upstairs loft with a futon, comfortably sleeping 8 people. The main floor features an open-concept living room with fireplace, kitchen, and dining area...as well as two bedrooms and a full bath. Sliding glass doors in the living room and the master bedroom lead to the full-width deck. The lower level has a bedroom, large multi-purpose room with wood stove, full bath, and a bonus room. French doors lead to a patio followed by the walkway to the lake.
The property has 200 feet of frontage on Lake Josephine, the quiet lake where many types of watercraft including row boats, paddle boats, paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, sailboats, etc. are allowed...except gasoline powered. During the day we like playing in the lake and/or exploring the Island, then returning to build a campfire in the open fire pit, enjoying peaceful evenings roasting hot dogs and marshmallows sharing stories of the day's events, the wildlife observed, and planning tomorrow's activities.
We welcome your questions about the property or the Island, and appreciate your interest.
- "This is one of my favorite places. All the toys for all age groups. Beautiful home with everything you can think of. It is where my now 10 year old learned to kayak. He talks about Anderson Island all year long and he has only ever been to this house. Not our first visit and not our last!" - "We all very much enjoyed our stay. The home is as advertised and was very well laid out for our use. We used the kayaks and our one fisherman caught a lot of fish! (Caught and released) We also appreciated the close proximity to the pickleball courts! We will be booking again. Thank you!"

Don’t miss the island swimming hole on Florence Lake for warm days! Make a day out of it by bringing a picnic for the afternoon or go for a quick dip to cool off. Bring along the paddle board or canoe to lengthen the stay and explore the water. The lake has roped off areas for small children, a dock in the middle for the big kids and adults to slide down and jump off. Finish off with a game of sand volleyball. Tan on the sandy beach while the kids swim to their heart’s content and build sandcastles by the lake.
Anderson Island also offers the Riviera Community Club for a unique round of golf. The golf course offers a well-maintained 9-hole golf course along with the Riviera Lakeshore restaurant for a delicious meal afterward. A fun way to take a break and bond together as friends and family.

- "Our 4th year staying here and it never disappoints!" - "We had a lovely stay. Traveling with a toddler, I appreciated that the playground is gated. Our kids had a great time on the playground (better than pictures!), swings all around the property and entertainment options available (foosball, water crafts, volleyballs, so much more!). The house was clean-- so much so that I didn't even feel the need to sanitize upon arrival as I often do in rentals. Our host was very gracious to come and deliver extra dish washer detergent pods. The kitchen is large, with great pots and pans to use (a rarity with rentals!). Two dishwashers is a cook's dream! The soft ice machine was my personal fav in the kitchen. Bring some flavored syrups and make snow cones! A few items to note for planning purposes-- you definitely want to bring all food items with you to the island. Waiting for the ferry can definitely add a decent amount of travel time, but there is ice cream and playgrounds at Steilacoom! The living room at the rental is sunken with a few steps. Overall, the views were amazing, access to water great. The property has plenty of activities onsite-- no need to leave unless you want to go explore other parts of the island. A lovely property and home and we will for sure return. Thank you so much!"

- "We had a wonderful time with 2 couples and a ten year old. There was plenty of room if our teens would have decided to come and they had entertainment. Anderson Island is a relaxing place to explore nature with lots of easy trails. Not a lot of dog friendly areas though, so keep that in mind. We definitely want to come back as the only problem we found was our trip was not quite long enough. Thank you for a fantastic weekend." - "I will definitely stay in of your homes again. Donna the property manager was great! She answered any questions that we had with in minutes if not immediately. Thank you for keeping your home in amazing condition."

We have recently renovated this sweet seaside home to provide a place for families to come and reconnect and enjoy the beauty of Anderson Island. Anderson Island is the southernmost island in Puget Sound, just a short 20 minute ferry ride from the historic town of Steilacoom, Washington - about one hour South of Seattle. The home features a stunning view of Mt Rainier, a private setting, and a quiet gravel beach.
Enjoy your coffee on a beautiful deck while you watch the sunrise over Mt Rainier. Keep an eye out for bald eagles, seals, porpoise, and an occasional Orca that just might venture by. After breakfast, explore the gravel beach and collect sea shells and agates, write a poem, or read that book you've been meaning to get to. Perhaps you can take a short drive to one of the many island parks, explore one of the amazing hiking trails, or take a dip in the lake at the "old swimming hole."
Inside the home, you will find bright open spaces for family gatherings, a cozy propane stove, comfy couches to curl up on and watch your favorite movie. The home is tastefully decorated in with a fresh costal farmhouse feel, featuring our personal photographs from around the island. Upstairs are two bedrooms tastefully appointed, both with new queen mattresses and plenty of comfy pillows and comforters for snuggling. A full bath and laundry room are also upstairs.
There is a well equipped open kitchen, dining table with seating for six and an eating bar so the whole family can gather and enjoy the sites and smells and remember what it is like to be a family together again!
Downstairs, a large walk out basement with view features a separate small kitchen, television/living room with a brand new sleeper sofa, and a third large bedroom with a king bed and twin daybed with a pull out second twin bed. There is a second bath downstairs as well with shower.
After dinner, take a seat out on the lawn and remember what it's like to count the stars away from the city lights, or perhaps toast a few s'mores over the fire pit while you listen to the waves lap at the shore.
For six generations, our family has called Anderson Island home. It truly is a unique and special place, a step back in time. Agate Beach House has been restored to reflect the beauty and tranquil nature of the island. Every detail has been attended to for your comfort and pleasure.
Give Agate Beach a try! You won't be disappointed!

- "Outstanding. It is a rare property that comes equipped with everything including filters, coffee and shampoo. Air conditioner worked great. Beds were comfortable." - "We were 2 families of 4, including young children. We had a fantastic stay. I’ll start with Anderson Island: The island is remote so pay attention when you are booking. There is a small general store island that has a good selection but you should probably let bring groceries onto the island if you have a long stay. There are several beautiful hikes around the island that are family friendly. The swimming hole was a hit but beware of yellow jackets. They were very active in mid August. We stayed on the island for 6 nights and never took any day trips off but pay attention to the ferry schedule if you do. Now the property: the house was wonderfully stocked with utensils, bakeware, etc. Everything was very clean and well taken care of. The house is a great set up for 2 families since it is almost like a duplex. We love our morning coffee on the deck overlooking Mt. Rainier. We saw dolphins and seals every morning. The beach kept us busy for hours, collecting shells and rocks. The blackberries were ripe during our stay and we collected pints for snacking and baking. Overall, we loved our stay and would gladly return!"

Thanks for sharing your lovely home with us!!" - "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay of one month at this home. The house was very clean and well supplied. Newer construction style home, nestled in the woods of the island. Close to saltwater marina with dock for your boat and fresh water lake a block away from the front door for fishing.
This a 1,800 sq ft. family vacation home nestled in the woods, pine needles on the walkway and deer in the yard. Very nice and modern. We just added 2 full size arcade games in the game room. The Simpson which is 4 player and RidgeRacer which also includes 4 other driving games. It is professionally cleaned after each stay, but there may be some dust missed here, spare towel in the washer there, etc... If you want to be on an island in the Puget Sound, have room to stretch out and make smores & memories w/ the family at the backyard fire pit with the occasional deer, than our place is perfect.
Quaint general store, golf course, and restaurant on the shores of Lake Josephine, one of two fresh water lakes on the island.
There is also a historical farm house with gift shops and museum that you can tour. Great time to go is during the annual Apple squeeze where you can press your cider just like the did on the island over a 100 years ago.
- "Great time." - "We enjoyed the private small backyard and patio, and walking just 2 minutes to a lake dock. Kitchen was well stocked for cooking, and the large living room was good for our group to play games in. Thanks to Greg for the accommodations!" - "Good location. Plenty of room for 7. Excellent communication with home owner." - "We found this property to be spacious, clean, quiet and close enough to the lakes and amenities to enjoy all that the HOA has to offer."

The kitchen is huge and was great for prepping big family meals. The house was stocked well with everything we needed and we also enjoyed a few records. This area of the island might be my new favorite. So quiet and little peak views of the water through the trees. We say a lot of deer and enjoyed walking to the park and just sitting on the porch with the birds. I highly recomend this property. We had a great stay."

Enjoy everything the island has to offer in this beautiful 2000 sq. ft. 3 bed/2 bath home just steps away from the Riviera golf course, clubhouse & Lake Josephine. Soak in the swim spa overlooking the 9th green or enjoy an evening by the fire pit roasting marshmallows and telling stories. Have fun playing board games, ping-pong, or enjoy a movie on one of the two large screen TVs.
- "Very enjoyable, very convenient, host was accommodating. Will look to make a return visit. Thanks" - "We had a wonderful stay on Anderson Island. This property is in a great location, so close to the lakes and Riviera Restaurant (Lakeshore Restaurant?). The restaurant had many wonderful activities and the food was great. We walked (less than 5 minutes) and ate there almost everyday. We also took the rowboats out on the lake almost everyday as well. Oh, and golf…the clubhouse is right there, and we played everyday! So fun and such a great course! As for the property itself, it’s beautiful with great views, and the owner is incredibly responsive, which is always a plus. Downstairs can get a bit chilly, but that was nice in the summer because it was warm, and it looks like they have a wood-burning stove down there for the winter, so everyone should be set! The only note I have is that we thought the sofas pulled out, since they were listed as beds, but they do not. I probably should’ve asked and clarified. There was an air mattress that we made work though, so just keep that in mind. I would not hesitate to book this place again. Everything was great overall! Oh…and the spa is massive!!!"

- "We enjoyed our stay with this beautiful cabin. We loved everything about it. We’ll definitely come back in the future. Only issue was, we brought stuffs to grill for my birthday but the propane gas tank was empty and we contacted Vacasa more than twice and up until we checked out nobody came to refill it or bring a new one or at least an update on what’s going on, we even took the gas tank to the grocery or the mini gas station by the cabin and they weren’t able to fill it up for us as well so it was a bummer. But other than that, WE LOVE IT SO VERY MUCH."

While having my 1st cup of coffee in the morning we observed a whole group of seals sunning in the rocks across the way on a small island. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare a meal and there was plenty of Towels in the bathroom. You will need to read the welcome book for tips on some of the things at the house. You will need to bring your own drinking water because the water is not very tasty but other than that we love the house and love being there"

- "Place was awesome. Everything was well stocked and clean. The view was impressive. The vintage charm was so fun. Basement was pretty musty, and that could use improvement. We would absolutely stay again though. " - "One of the best trip that we ever had as a family. Fun riding the ferry and the location of the house was even better. Beautiful nature is all that we needed. It was very quiet and peaceful. Definitely would go again." - "Terrific house, area, and view. loved it."

You'll feel a sense of calm via a short scenic ferry ride to Anderson Island from Steilacoom. Nestled amongst the trees, this 5-bedroom, 3-bath rental comfortably sleeps 10 of all ages and their pet dogs. This setting is ideal for a family gathering - allowing you to truly get away at Madrona Point Tree House!
Enjoy the outdoors golfing or bring your bikes and rackets. Or just chill fireside after relaxing in the hot tub. Just sit and stare at the trees to be seen from every window. It's less then 5 minutes to walk to the lakes and parks to be enjoyed summer or winter. Lake is warm enough to swim in summer, so bring your floaties or paddle board. There are tennis courts at the park as well.
Neighborhood description
It's pretty quiet here, a residential neighborhood with regular city and country sounds. A quick drive to the General Store & Cafe - get your basics here, but load up on the mainland if you're prepping for meals. Walk to the renovated restaurant with a lovely nine-hole golf course across the street. Drive your pups to the off-leash dog park, but be sure to leave them safe in the kennel when you head to the lake as no dogs are allowed. Quiet neighborhood feel and no sidewalks or stop lights on island.
Getting around
No street signals or sidewalks. There are no ride-shares or buses, you must have your car from the ferry.
There are wild deer and animals, so drive carefully.
Paved roads, easy to navigate.
- "The host added nice touches: lanterns that can be used to go to/from the fire pit or on walks, snacks, teas and coffee, surprisingly well supplied kitchen (I did not expect a zester in a short term rental). Overall a great home on Anderson Island. It slept all 10 of our group (2 families) and had room for people to spread out when they needed." - "." - "We stayed a week long and enjoyed the house very much. There was plenty of space to join together as a family or have your own space for some R&R. We brought our boat and enjoyed the marina and taking it out in the puget sound for leisure and whale watching. Had to have a camp fire and cook some s’mores! Thanks again for allowing our family to enjoy your lovely home."

- "The perfect family house! We loved the bunk house and all the kid activities… games, bikes, kayaks. We will definitely be back." - "At first glance, the property is very cute. Once you start looking closer....it wasnt good. The fridge was broken. Contacted management as soon as we got there.... maintenance didnt show up until 6 the next day, causing our food to spoil. All spices in the cupboard expited in 2014-2017. The first aid kit had sun block that expired in 2016 and advil that expired in 2014. Overall, it felt like i was walking back in time. Please remove all expired products. This could have caused a tragedy if the sunblock was used. So sad. A disappointing visit."
