Welcome to Sunset Cottage! Enjoy a relaxing and serene getaway at this charming lakeside cottage which faces west and boasts beautiful evening sunsets that can be enjoyed from the screened in porch. The cottage is 2 bedroom, 1 bath and has an open kitchen and living space. This intimate setting allows you to enjoy the peacefulness of nature while still being close to historical Vermont towns.

Located 10 minutes north of Castleton and just under 30 minutes south of Middlebury, this cottage is in the perfect location for graduation weekend or enjoying a peaceful lake house getaway with your family/friends. The cottage is finished with an all pine interior boasting 12+ foot ceilings in the kitchen and living room areas. The front bedroom is furnished with two twin sized beds and the master bedroom overlooks the beautiful screened in porch and lake with a spacious king sized bed. The couch in the living room also folds into a queen sized bed if needed. Enjoy your morning coffee and evening glass of wine on the screened in porch which runs the full width of the house and has a porch swing as well as rocking chairs.

When you're here, we want you to feel at home so Sunset Cottage is equipped with all of the essentials. A Keurig coffee maker, kettle, numerous pots and pans, silverware, dishes, spices and oils, dish soap, sponges, towels (kitchen and bath), linens, and more. You only need to bring your personal items! If you are wondering if there is a specific item at the cottage please feel free to ask! At this time Sunset Cottage is not equipped with kayaks; however, you are welcome to bring your own kayaks, paddle boards, etc.

Sunset Cottage is remote; however, still equipped with the modern amenities you hope for. There is wireless available as well as a Smart TV (log into your own Netflix/Amazon/etc. accounts) and a DVD player is also available. There is a small library of DVDs you are welcome to utilize; however, we welcome you bringing your own in the event of a rainy day! There is not strong cell phone service at the cottage and a land line is provided (a rustic rotary phone in all its vintage charm!).

Sunset Cottage is located 2.5 miles north of Crystal Beach; a public beach for swimming and offers kayaks available to rent, picnic sites, volleyball and basketball courts, a playground and docks for boating and fishing. Additionally there are numerous state parks close by if you're interested in walks/hikes through nature or just want to enjoy the scenery.

Other local attractions include multiple restaurants just minutes away in Castleton, a 5 minute drive to Bomossen Golf Club or take a drive into the town of Middlebury and enjoy local shops and restaurants.

Check-in is 3:00pm and check-out is 11:00am. The cottage is not fully winterized and currently open for rentals May - October. There is a small electric fireplace as well as heat pump which offers both heat and AC.

Note: the cottage is waterfront; however, this particular part of the lake has a significant amount of vegetation and is not ideal for swimming. It is a great spot for launching a kayak or for dogs to play in the water. For swimming accessibility we recommend checking out Crystal Beach 2.5 miles south of the cottage.

- "We really enjoyed our stay. It’s very quiet and peaceful. You don’t hear road traffic or people. I was impressed with how clean the house was. It is also well stocked with just about everything you could need, except an iron which I really needed. The water is great for dogs but definitely not for people. My only caution to others who may bring their dog is that the neighbors 2 dogs will come onto the property barking incessantly so if your dog is not dog friendly beware! We were told the neighbors have dogs but we were not expecting them to come onto the property alone and unsupervised. Luckily we avoided any troubles and kept our dog under control. This happened daily. This is no fault of the property owner so I still give 5 stars even though it added a little stress to an otherwise very peaceful stay. I still highly recommend."

Our 4 bedroom, 2 bath lake house sits on the east side of beautiful Lake Bomoseen with gorgeous morning views, all-day sun and shimmering water sunsets. Inside families, friends or couples can spread out in an open floor plan with dining room seating for 8, wrap around sectional in the living room and an upstairs with 3 bedrooms and an open area.

We have the best times with family & friends sitting around the table on the back deck overlooking the lake while we tend the grill and sit in the hot tub. Sometimes we move to the lower deck directly over the water to watch each other jump off the dock and swim. After a day playing on the lake we’ll enjoy smore’s at nighttime over the firepit in the back yard. In the winter after a day of nearby skiing at Killington, Pico or Okemo we love coming back to our cozy home, cooking a great meal and looking up at the stars from our hot tub. We also enjoy going to a couple of the fun & friendly local restaurants.

We’re next door to Crystal Beach with its playground, basketball court and beach/safe swimming for all ages including little ones. There is also great hiking nearby.

Located on the East shore of Lake Bomoseen, 5.7 miles/9mins to Castleton University, 45 mins to Killington or Okemo, our recently renovated cottage sleeps 6 comfortably in 3 bedrooms (a queen, a full and a set of bunks), full bathroom, kitchen, dining and living area, smart TV - TiVo service, wifi, covered patio, a small washer/dryer.
A beautiful view of the Taconic foothills and plenty of activities on the lake and in the surrounding area! Amazing sunsets, fishing, hiking, and campfires are ready to help make wonderful family memories.
There is a rowboat, canoe and kayaks available for your use. We have a dock, if you wish to moor your boat. You are welcome to bring your small outboard engine to use on our skiff or there is a marina on the lake if you wish to rent something for water skiing or cruising the lake.
Float Bridge prevents vessels over 6 feet from the water from coming through, making for a quieter and safer family experience. A pool is available at the KOA campground; Crystal beach is also public(2024 $4adults 2 children/seniors).

WINTER travelers - This is Vermont - it snows thank goodness! We recommend an AWD or 4WD with good tires. Monitor the weather and plan travel accordingly. If the driveway has not been plowed, do not drive into it. Do not drive off the plowed surface, there is sand at the cottage and in the barrels on the road in the event there is ice.

We are close to great hiking and mountain biking trails, 4 ski resorts, historical sites, and parks.
The house is 30 minutes to Okemo Mountain Ski Resort, and 35 minutes to Killington and Pico Ski Resorts. The lake freezes solid usually between mid January to late March. It is active with skaters, cross country skiers, ice fishing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.

We are 4 miles to a Shaw's for groceries. Castleton has 5 restaurants, and nearby Fair Haven has a few as well. We are 20 minutes to Rutland with even more choices for dining out.

Wildlife here is amazing. Ducks, geese, eagles, muskrats, beaver, and blue herons are seen most days. It is a paradise for bird watching.

The property is dog-friendly. There is a dock to launch your kayak. The porch has a view of the lake. The cottage is clean, compact and full of all the amenities you need including a washer and dryer. The pull-out couch was comfortable too. Our home is unique, warm and elegant, fully equipped, yet still evolving. The property itself imperfect, but nestled into a cliff with a sweet firepit which offers wonderful views and privacy. From almost every room, beautiful lake views. Although a stretch, one of the reasons we bought this quirky property was because it reminded us of our travels to the Amalfi coast: steep cliffs, fast cars and a short trek to the water....IYKYK.

Our home is well situated. It has lake access, a private dock and two kayaks for your enjoyment (must wear life jackets). ( Dock is not set up for motor boats) Its walking distance to the LakeHouse Restaurant and Crystal Beach, a mile from the Taproom at LB Restaurant and Neshobe Beach. A kayak ride from all of those as well as Bomoseen State Park. 7 minutes to the town of Castleton, 10 minutes to the train station, 20 minutes to Rutland, 30 minutes to Middlebury, 40 minutes to both Killington and Okemo/Jackson Gore ski areas. Or as we say in Vermont right around the corner.

There are daily and weekly boat and jet ski rentals available (boating license required) at the Woodard Marina located right on LB.

For those looking for other Vermonty adventures, there are: local farms, golfing, wineries, hiking, biking, horseback riding, berry picking, theatre, art, funky random museums and rail trails.

The building is a historical landmark known as The Dog built in 1903 with modern electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling. This is a comfortable well lit studio. The boat slip is across the street and can accommodate up to a 20ft boat. We have completely renovated the building and furnished the units with modern appliances. Come work remote, enjoy the lake, relax and have fun.

The space
Apt 2A is a studio unit on the second floor of The Dog in Lake Bomoseen. There is a fold down couch bed and a pull out twin size bed. An intercom video door entry is available to allow guests entry in the main door.

Guest access
The floor has a small 2-person balcony shared by the three apartments on the floor. The boat docks are across the street. The "Dog" bar/ restaurant is open in summer. Sorry, no pets.

Other things to note
There is not an elevator. The historic building is not ADA accessible.

Welcome! We have spent close to 2 years designing and building our dream house on Lake Bomoseen. It will be completed in July of 2022. (These photos are mostly renderings other than the landscape. For progress pictures, please visit bomoseenaframe on IG.) It is a quiet spot on the north end of the lake, with no direct neighbors and calm waters.

It is located about 45 minutes from Killington, 45 from Okemo, and 30 from Pico.

It will be rentable in three different configurations: 5BR/3.5BA, 3-BR/2.5BA, or a 2BR/1BA unit. Please contact us for pricing on one of the smaller configurations.

The property has 285 feet of shoreline with a dock, a roof deck, front porch, fire pit, grill, central air, two kitchens, two sets of washer/dryer units, 2-car garage, access to tons of biking and hiking trails, and stunning views south down the lake with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Perfect for a relaxing getaway or a nearby wedding. (Please note that we do not have a motorboat available to renters, but you can rent them at Woodard’s at the south end of the lake, or bring your own boat and use our dock.)

This house is brand new so we’re wary of pets but since we have a dog ourselves, we’re also open to discussing it if your dog(s) won’t wreck anything…

We have a strict cancelation policy because it will be difficult to re-rent on short notice, but if you need to cancel and we can re-rent it, we will refund you in full. We also have a week long minimum booking for peak (typically Saturday-Saturday but that is flexible) and three nights for off-peak. Thank you!

Welcome to our lake home: S’more Vacation. Our kids really enjoy S’mores around the campfire and do not want to leave the lake when we visit. We hope you enjoy your time on the lake as much as we do.

Enjoy your privacy on Johnson Spooner Rd which is located on the west side of the lake across the float bridge. This is a dead end road and quiet. Perfect for walking, bike riding, and exploring hiking trails around Loves Marsh. The north end of the lake is perfect for kayaking or paddleboards. It is often much calmer water than the south main body of the lake.

Our Lakehouse sleeps 9 comfortably with 4 bedrooms. 1 bedroom is on the first floor for ease of access. Enjoy the lake and mountain views off the deck while dinner cooks on the BBQ! Fishing direct from the dock. Internet included, browse the collection of DVD's, or bring your own streaming service. Central A/C and heat. Well water with UV light filtration to ensure it is safe to drink and cook with.

For fun in the summer flag down the ice cream boat which makes dock stops or schedule the Lake Bomoseen Tap room Tiki Boat to pick your group up from the dock.

New owners as of late summer 2023 that are looking to build on and improve what was already a great property. If the house looks familiar it was previously rented under the name Hocus Pocus and we welcome back guests that have stayed in the past.

During peak summer season Memorial Day through the end of September we are offering weekly rental stays. Saturday night through Saturday morning. In the off season 3 day minimums are available.

Driving distance to NY and VT destinations; Lake George, Ticonderoga, Saratoga Springs, Manchester, Dorset, Woodstock and others. Our dock is on Birch at the lake directly across from the bottom of Maple Lane. 179 is labeled on the handrail, It’s the dock to the left of the brown garage on the lakefront. There are a few steps with a railing leading to a small old deck with a deck storage box. Then stairs off of those first steps lead to a brand new composite deck that looks over the L shaped dock on the water level. We have two kayaks and Paddle board on a storage stand, please return the kayaks to the kayak stand before checking out.
The Paddles and life Jackets are under the Waterfront Deck they are available for your use. Please return back to where you found them.
**Do not use the aluminum fishing boat**
Fishing is great right off the dock and off the Kayaks.

Our home operates on well. For this reason, we ask our guests to be cognizant of their water use. We have taken numerous precautions to avoid the well running dry including an addition of a 1000 gallon holding tank and water efficient fixtures.

- " Our family of 12 adults and 2 children thoroughly enjoyed our week at The Waters Edge. The house is beautifully decorated with many luxurious touches. The wine basket and a s’mores kit were tasty surprises. Four different methods to make coffee- Keurig, Nepresso, French Press and regular coffee machine. Separate temperature controls in each comfortable bedroom, a HUGE perk. Kitchens are well stocked with beautiful quality dining/cooking items for large families. Often vacation houses are stocked with tired cookware and dishes, not here! Dining seating is plentiful. In the evening, the living room was our central gathering place for board games, cards and just hanging out. The spacious grounds include a dock (We rented a boat, highly recommend), nice swimming area(good shallow entrance for the littles and due to lake bottom of some rocks, some of our party used water shoes) plenty of room for yard games and an awesome fire pit with chairs. The house has an amazing number of parking spots too. It easily fit our 7 cars and trailer with room for more! We enjoyed many local attractions; Wilson Castle, Crowley Cheese making, The Original Vermont Country Store, Killington, State park, Bomoseen Golf Club, Bomoseen diner, Lakehouse restaurant and Lake Bomoseen lodge. Highly recommend all! And don’t miss the maple creemees at Robo’s Creemees! Our host was very responsive to our questions. She’s just the best!! We hope to stay at this wonderful house again. "

Our 2 Bedroom, 1.5 bath lake house is located on the east side of lake. Enjoy sun all day long and beautiful sunsets over the water! It's centrally located near a park, swimming, golf course, restaurants, wedding venue, and highway. Killington, Pico, and Okemo ski resorts are about 30-45 minutes away.

Our place is different than most places on the lake since we are on the town sewer line. This means no restrictions on flushes and the number of hot showers!
