The property manager was very responsive, and check in could not have been any easier. We were in town for the Classic Wooden boat show, and the Cottage was walking distance to the show, restaurant, and shops. The cottage was equipped with a full kitchen, games for families to play blow dryers in both bathrooms , and the washer and dryer was a super score! My only recommendation would be to just male sure the little things like garbage bags, and dishwasher pods are stocked up for guests when they are arriving. There was only one garbage bag under the sink, and no dishwasher pods/detergent to be found. I had loaded the dishwasher to run it before we left, only to find no detergent. A few extra kitchen towels would be great as well. These things are all very minor, but will give the next guests who arrive an even better stay. Overall this place was amazing! We would absolutely recommend it to future renters, and would absolutely book this adorable, newly renovated cottage again. Thank you for a great stay!"

- "This house is so cute and charming!! And incredibly spacious!! And immaculately clean!! The bedroom is very large, the king-sized bed was so comfy and there is lots of room to unpack. It’s located in a cute neighborhood. Very walkable and convenient to many different things to do. The host provided a very detail book of all things in the area that we might need or want to visit which was very helpful. We had three adults staying in the house with my son sleeping on the couch and were very pleased when we saw how spacious the layout was. There is a queen size air mattress available as well, but my son preferred the couch. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this as the perfect option for anyone."

Dygert, a prominent businessman who had the largest lumbering and manufacturing businesses in Clayton. Detailed craftsmanship of W.A. - "I stayed at the Dygert House for a wedding In Clayton and was blown away by the space. The room was on the 3rd floor with sloped (but high) ceilings and a large, open kitchen. It would have been perfect for hosting drinks or enjoying a week away with a significant other/spouse. Everything was meticulous and the home itself was beautifully restored. My only criticism is that the shower was against one of the sloped walls and for a 6'2" guy, I had to stoop to fit (me problem), but compared to the rest of the property, this isn't a concern. Parking was readily available, and the host was attentive; they even left a nice note and some snacks. 10/10 would stay (and visit Clayton) again."

The location was perfect (a short walk will get you quickly to the Antique Boat Museum, restaurants, and shopping) with convenient parking inside the marina just below the apartment. With its original construction predating the turn-of-the-century, The Dygert House is a thoughtfully modernized Victorian residence located less than one block from the banks of the majestic St. Lawrence River. Glimpses of the sparkling blue River are just one of the experiences you will enjoy during your stay at the Dygert House that features modern luxuries layered upon 125 years of history.

The St. Lawrence Residence offers guests the perfect location to entertain friends and family at the River while relaxing in their personal space. The historic residence offers multiple indoor areas to curl up with a good book or host game night; while the oversized outdoor entertainer’s deck is perfect for morning coffee, sunset meals and lazy brunches. The bedroom setup is perfect for small families or groups of friends.

The kitchen is ready for guests to enjoy and comes fully equipped with a full size stove-oven combo, Keurig coffee maker, microwave, toaster, refrigerator, and dishwasher. Guests will find all of the amenities of home in this kitchen, including enough place settings for four and all of the cookware needed to experiment with those new dishes.

The St. Lawrence Residence is historically rich with warm natural hardwoods and antique pops of color throughout. Guests are kept comfortable by the Residence’s multiple window A/C units on those hot summer nights and electric baseboard for those crisp fall mornings. Guest Access:
Upon arrival, you will access your residence through the foyer that showcases stunning features of the home: original door hardware, lighting, period-relevant artwork and hand-tooled woodwork all complemented by Carrera marble floors outlined by hand-laid Greek key pattern tilework. Climbing the original stairwell, enjoy the sunlight streaming through historic stained-glass windows while the softness of the centuries-old wood railing guides you to your sanctuary.

The Dygert House offers guests self check-in services with 24/7 access to your suite with a unique key code which is provided prior to your arrival, along with detailed check-in instructions and notable things to do throughout the region.

Please note that the St. Lawrence Residence is located on the second floor of the Dygert House and is accessible only via the house’s internal stairwell; there is no elevator at the Dygert House. We ask that you please respect other guests in the Dygert House and carry any luggage to your residence versus attempting to roll it on the stairs.

The Dygert House provides you with versatility to stroll the village, Riverwalk, town and municipal docks, or to jump in the car for a short drive to local attractions including wineries, golf courses, shopping & dining in Canada, river cruises to historic castles, and of course world class fishing. The Dygert House does not offer onsite parking but free on street village parking is available directly outside of the house along Merrick Street and the Village's large municipal parking lot, that offers free overnight parking and boat trailer storage, is only one block away.

A point of interest on the Clayton History Walking Tour, the home was originally the residence of Wells A. Dygert, a prominent businessman who had the largest lumbering and manufacturing businesses in Clayton. Detailed craftsmanship of W.A. Dygert’s trade is showcased on this property; including ornamental balustrades, unique cornices, decorative wood trim, and meticulously turned newel posts are among the treasures of this home. It is likely that similar features of other the 1890’s Victorian homes in the area are also the product of Mr. Dygert’s successful enterprise.

The building is new with energy efficient appliances, ac/heat, solar panels. It is located near the Zenda Farm Preserve walking path and a short distance from Clayton. Of course, being near Clayton, guests will want to explore the fine dining of the local restaurants as well as all the other amenities Clayton and the surrounding area have to offer.

Ships traveling the St. Lawrence Seaway pass in front of the property as do recreational boats. Boaters can launch their boats from a public boat launch nearby.

It shares 200ft of waterfront with the St Lawrence River cottage on the adjacent lot.
