- Severe flooding in 2017 and 2019, along with strong winds, caused significant waterfront damage, washing the small dock ashore and leading to erosion. A retaining wall and new steps were added in 2020, but there is still no direct water access. For safety, do not attempt to climb down the rocks, as it may result in injury. Guests can enjoy the best view of the St. Lawrence from the property

The property has an amazing location - right in the middle of where we needed to be, and a stones throw to everywhere in Clayton. You can walk to the corner gas station or Lyrics for amazing breakfasts, ice cream shops, restaurants and bars, the waterfront, the arena and the grocery &liquor store. The home has an adorable back patio with table and chairs. We comfortably and almost privately slept 2 adults and 2 kids. The master is very large with a comfy bed. The living room was perfect for an air mattress and the back bedroom with the daybed was perfect for my other child. Very happy, plan on returning in the future."

Due to the time of year (still pretty chilly) we drove, but in nice warm weather you could definitely walk from here. The host was super friendly. - "This house is so cute and charming!! And incredibly spacious!! And immaculately clean!! The bedroom is very large, the king-sized bed was so comfy and there is lots of room to unpack. It’s located in a cute neighborhood. Very walkable and convenient to many different things to do. The host provided a very detail book of all things in the area that we might need or want to visit which was very helpful. We had three adults staying in the house with my son sleeping on the couch and were very pleased when we saw how spacious the layout was. There is a queen size air mattress available as well, but my son preferred the couch. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this as the perfect option for anyone."

The Space:
With its original construction predating the turn-of-the-century, The Dygert House is a thoughtfully modernized Victorian residence located less than one block from the banks of the majestic St. Lawrence River. Glimpses of the sparkling blue River are just one of the experiences you will enjoy during your stay at the Dygert House that features modern luxuries layered upon 125 years of history.

The Channel View Residence offers guests a spacious open concept floor plan with distinct living, dining, and sleeping areas, a four-piece bathroom with beautifully tiled shower and bathtub combo and full-size washer and dryer.

The kitchen is ready for guests to enjoy and comes fully equipped with a stainless-steel appliances including ull-size stove-oven combo, microwave, toaster, refrigerator, dishwasher and a Keurig coffee maker. Guests will find all of the amenities of home in this kitchen, including enough place settings for four and all of the cookware needed to experiment with those new dishes.

The Channel View Residence is architecturally rich with peaked ceilings and open sightlines. Guests are kept comfortable by the Residence’s two zone heating/cooling system on those hot summer nights or crisp fall mornings. Guest Access:
Upon arrival, you will access your residence through the foyer that showcases stunning features of the home: original door hardware, period-relevant artwork,lighting, and hand-tooled woodwork all complemented by Carrera marble floors outlined by hand-laid Greek key pattern tilework. Climbing the original stairwell, enjoy the sunlight streaming through historic stained-glass windows while the softness of the centuries-old wood railing guides you to your sanctuary.

The Dygert House offers guests self check-in services with 24/7 access to your suite with a unique key code which is provided prior to your arrival, along with detailed check-in instructions and notable things to do throughout the region.

Please note that the Channel View Residence is located on the third floor of the Dygert House and is accessible only via the house’s interior stairwell; there is no elevator at the Dygert House. The stairs leading from the 2nd to 3rd floors are steep so we advise packing lightly! Additionally we ask that you please respect other guests in the Dygert House and carry any luggage to your residence versus attempting to roll it on the stairs.

The Dygert House does not offer onsite parking but free on-street village parking is available directly outside of the house along Merrick Street and the Village's large municipal parking lot, that offers free overnight parking and boat trailer storage, is only one block away.

A point of interest on the Clayton History Walking Tour, the home was originally the residence of Wells A. Dygert, a prominent businessman who had the largest lumbering and manufacturing businesses in Clayton. Detailed craftsmanship of W.A. Dygert’s trade is showcased on this property; including ornamental balustrades, unique cornices, decorative wood trim, and meticulously turned newel posts are among the treasures of this home. It is likely that similar features of other the 1890’s Victorian homes in the area are also the product of Mr. Dygert’s successful enterprise.

- "I stayed at the Dygert House for a wedding In Clayton and was blown away by the space. The room was on the 3rd floor with sloped (but high) ceilings and a large, open kitchen. It would have been perfect for hosting drinks or enjoying a week away with a significant other/spouse. Everything was meticulous and the home itself was beautifully restored. My only criticism is that the shower was against one of the sloped walls and for a 6'2" guy, I had to stoop to fit (me problem), but compared to the rest of the property, this isn't a concern. Parking was readily available, and the host was attentive; they even left a nice note and some snacks. 10/10 would stay (and visit Clayton) again."

Ships traveling the St. Lawrence Seaway pass in front of the property as do recreational boats. Boaters can launch their boats from a public boat launch nearby.

PARKING: There is plenty of parking for cars, boats, trailers, etc.

ACCESS: The front door has an electronic lock. You will be provided the door code on the day of arrival.

TRAVELING AROUND THE AREA: There is a FREE transportation service called the Chug Wagon that serves the 1000 islands area, you can access their contact information online. Other than that, there are no taxis or rideshare services in the area. So, driving a personal vehicle or boating to locations is your best bet!

TRASH: Trash containers are located outside in front of the garage along with recycling receptacles

CHECK IN/OUT: We do not typically offer late check out or early check in due to high occupancy. If by chance we can accommodate, we will.

This property can support off street parking for a full size pickup truck and boat trailer. There is also an outdoor spigot and hose for easy cleanup after a great day on the river.

With its original construction predating the turn-of-the-century, The Dygert House is a thoughtfully modernized Victorian residence located less than one block from the banks of the majestic St. Lawrence River. Glimpses of the sparkling blue River are just one of the experiences you will enjoy during your stay at the Dygert House that features modern luxuries layered upon 125 years of history.

The Channel View Residence offers guests a spacious open concept floor plan with distinct living, dining, and sleeping areas, a four-piece bathroom with beautifully tiled shower and bathtub combo and full-size washer and dryer.

The kitchen is ready for guests to enjoy and comes fully equipped with a stainless-steel appliances including ull-size stove-oven combo, microwave, toaster, refrigerator, dishwasher and a Keurig coffee maker. Guests will find all of the amenities of home in this kitchen, including enough place settings for four and all of the cookware needed to experiment with those new dishes.

The Channel View Residence is architecturally rich with peaked ceilings and open sightlines. Upon arrival, you will access your residence through the foyer that showcases stunning features of the home: original door hardware, period-relevant artwork,lighting, and hand-tooled woodwork all complemented by Carrera marble floors outlined by hand-laid Greek key pattern tilework. Climbing the original stairwell, enjoy the sunlight streaming through historic stained-glass windows while the softness of the centuries-old wood railing guides you to your sanctuary.

The Dygert House offers guests self check-in services with 24/7 access to your suite with a unique key code which is provided prior to your arrival, along with detailed check-in instructions and notable things to do throughout the region.

Please note that the Channel View Residence is located on the third floor of the Dygert House and is accessible only via the house’s interior stairwell; there is no elevator at the Dygert House. The stairs leading from the 2nd to 3rd floors are steep so we advise packing lightly! Additionally we ask that you please respect other guests in the Dygert House and carry any luggage to your residence versus attempting to roll it on the stairs.

Dygert, a prominent businessman who had the largest lumbering and manufacturing businesses in Clayton. Detailed craftsmanship of W.A.
