With a southern exposure you’ll enjoy the sun and the breeze on your private deck overlooking the water. Guests are welcome to take advantage of the shoreline and the use of 6 kayaks. The Bay is crystal clear and perfect for swimming. As the water is quite shallow, it supports the growth of water grasses which will brush your legs in the water and we recommend water shoes as it is pebbly underfoot. Guests can take advantage of a designated pebble beach area for lounging by the water and gathering by a bonfire in the evening.
We are dog friendly! Your pup is welcome to run off leash on the property. We kindly ask you to encourage your dog to stay off the furniture and beds and we remind you to bring their favourite blanket or dog bed for their comfort. We have a limit of 2 dog guests and apply a pet fee of $10.00/day.
Enjoy a relaxing getaway and take advantage of the surrounding sites and activities:
• Hay Bay is a premier fishing destination, for both open water and ice fishing, and is home to largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, perch, pike/walleye and lake trout. - "We had a very nice stay here. Everything was exactly as described. Very clean and cozy. The location is perfect for a little getaway. The communication with the property manager was also top notch." - "We had a fantastic time here. The space was exactly as the pictures and video show it. It was quiet, it was clean and had everything you would ever need. It was a great home base for some sight seeing in the surrounding communities and provided some much appreciated R&R. We loved the hot tub and the kayaks. The fire pit was filled with wood ready to be lit and even covered with plastic to try to keep it dry since there was some recent rain just before our arrival. The owner was quick to respond to inquiries we had before arrival. Thanks very much Karen!"

We also operate additional STR in Napanee. Please inquire if interested.
- "What a great experience we had sleeping at the yurt. This was our first time experiencing staying at here and sleeping in a yurt. The bed was very comfortable, we had plenty of water to use and I was happy to have a sink and just incase it was cold at night a stove inside the yurt. Claire and Billy and very good hosts and super friendy and lovely. They were helpful and always making sure we were ok and if we needed anything. They even shared from their garden, the only thing that would've been more helpful is if the solar charging station lasted longer. My phone ended up dying the night before leaving. If you enjoy being in the bush all alone, under the beautiful stars and love peace and quite, then this is the place for you. Thank you Billy and Claire"

About the house: this is the first Loyalist homestead in the area. It was built in the 1790s by Captain Dorland, namesake of the nearby town of Dorland. Captain Dorland operated the Glenora Ferry for a number of decades and petitioned to maintain ongoing public ferry access for the local community. The lakeroom is a more modern addition from the mid 1800s :) For guests with mobility issues, note that the stairs are steeper than modern stairs and the landing is slightly narrow.

Slow down at this unique and relaxing rural getaway. Everything is here for a break from your normal routine. Our one bedroom, off-grid, solar powered Silo is ready to help you leave the world behind for a time and focus on recentering, relaxing, and reinvigorating. Your time can be spent reading, doing yoga, cooking, lounging in the sun or the shade, or walking through the woods. You'll love the quiet, uninterupted YOU time at The Silo.
The space
Our bespoke tiny home is bright and airy with a bedroom loft. The home runs on power produced by the sun. Our very private yard provides our guests with incredible outdoor vignettes to roam or relax in. There is a screened pergola, an outdoor kitchen, decks for lounging, and woods for walking or meditating.
Guest access
Whether you want to cook on the BBQ, make artisanal pizza in the pizza oven (fresh pizza dough provided in fridge), relax under the pergola or shade sail, roam through the woods, walk the country roads or follow the provincial walking trails, there's a spot for all your relaxation needs.
Other things to note
Our off grid Silo has all the comforts of home without relying on the power grid to provide electricity. We produce enough solar power to run appliances, lights, and receptacles. Our system stores power in a battery bank to use after the sun sets. Being off grid means being mindful of electrical usage. On grey or rainy days, the solar gain is low and will affect how much power is available. This means air conditioning will not be available if the solar gain is too low.

The water comes from the lake and we don’t suggest drinking it, bring some water jugs for drinking water, however the water is double filtrated and equipped with a UV light and when periodically tested comes back 100% safe from the health unit. The water level is at a good level this year which is controlled with lake Ontario’s level, it is over 6 feet deep off the end of the dock with a normal amount of weeds, we have done our best to keep the weeds down around the dock for swimming, but with weeds comes great fishing off the dock. There is an irrigation system from the trailer to the water that comes on first thing in the morning and in the afternoon depending on time of year.

Our cottage has many ways to connect with nature. If you follow the path that is located on the left side of the cottage (closest side to the driveway). This path will take you down through a little hill with rock steps. You will arrive at an area surrounded by bamboo sticks and trees.
**PLEASE READ**
For water access, you can access it through a private path. Follow the easy path that is located on the left side of the cottage, driveway side. This path will take you down through a little hill with rock steps. Keep heading down the hill, you will arrive at a flat grassy area, feel free to use this area as part of your cottage experience. To continue the path to the water, continue past that area, head straight down till you reach a gravel driveway.
Once you reach the gravel portion, PLEASE keep in mind you are stepping into our legal access to the water and this property no longer belongs to us so please be polite when crossing. You have the right to access the water but only through the easement which is outlined with small red flags, the easement is left of the path. If you look over to your left, you will cross the gravel part into the outlined path, this path will guide you to the water, marked Unit A access. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL, when stepping onto the water area you must step down in a rocky unsettled area. We do not take any responsibility for any injury or misuse of this access, it's at your own risk. Water levels may reduce the beach area, maybe different than in the listing photos. However it's shallow when you step down from the rocky natural step path into the water. Please bring water shoes, its highly recommend and please keep your pet on leash so they don't wander off our property/access.
Lastly, this is a secluded area, noise bylaws apply at all times near the shoreline. Be respectful and bring your garbage and any other contents back up to the cottage to help keep the environment clean.
Other things to note
You can check in at noon on arrival day and check out at 4pm on departure day. There is a lock box which we give you the code to access keys to the cottage on the first day of arrival.
The master has two twins joined together, so you can use a king size or two twins for sheets. The other room has a double/queen bed. Living room has a sofa bed size is double size, if you want to use that to sleep as well. I'd recommend to bring your pillows/blanket/towels. It's quite nice with the windows open or AC on, so you may not need heavy blankets in the summer/fall season 😊 The kitchen is fully equipped and washroom is big with a stand up shower and a view of the Bay of Quinte!
We carry our kayaks/paddle board down the path and bring them back up using our shared pathway down to the Bay. Please respect the neighbors and space, trespassing signs are posted and our pathway is clearly marked to follow down to the pebble beach. The Bay is good to swim if you don't mind the weeds, it is a pebble beach so would recommend bringing water shoes as the pebbles can be a strong therapy for the feet!
There are 4 adult life jackets you're welcome to use, there is one toddler and one child jacket as well. Please read weight limitations before use at your own discretion/risk. I wish I upload a video so you can see the walk down to the water and back up, but Air BnB hasn't got that option. I can send you if you would like after booking, as well.
There is a firepit upfront of the cottage you're welcome to bring your firewood to enjoy the marshmallows ☺️ Our backyard deck has a patio and bench seating for which the cushions are kept inside behind the couch and you're welcome to take them out and enjoy the view and eat there if you'd like. BBQ is hooked up to our gas line as well for you to use.
4x4 vehicle is recommended for the winter time to ensure you're able to get in and out easily.
