4. No cutting on the countertop, please use cutting boards provided.

6. Use of swimming pool is at your own risk. No lifeguard on duty. Parents are responsible to watch their children at all times and ensure gate is closed after use.

7. Campfire is available to use at your own risk. Fires must be kept small and put out with water from tap at the end of use. Parents are responsible to watch their children at all times.

8. Noise to be kept to a minimum after 11 p.m.

Kitchen is large and open to family room which has a large tv and plenty of comfy seating. 3 cozy bedrooms accommodate sleeping time. Bathroom is sizeable. - "My girlfriend and I chose this place to be close to an event. This place was priced right and was in a peaceful area but also very close to amenities and restaurants. For those who know of Zak’s restaurant, Carleton Place has one now. Our hosts was prompt with communication and the room was clean and comfy. Chromecast worked great for snuggling and watching movies. The only issue we had was with the fridge when we checked in. It didn’t appear to be cold. I turned it up to max (7) and it took some time but it did make things cold enough and the freezer at the bottom of the fridge kept our ice cream frozen solid. Prior to the fridge cooling I kind of panicked and ran to Walmart and bought a cooler and bags of ice to keep drinks and the ice cream cold and I mentioned the issue and my quick solution. The host offered to bring in a contractor to look at the fridge because it had been working the day prior but also offered to reimburse me for the cooler costs. In the end the fridge did keep things cool and meeting the host when we were loading the car, I said don’t worry about reimbursement because we will keep the cool and as long as the fridge says on max it was working. We thanked her for everything. I received an email with reimbursement for the cooler anyways which I would say is above and beyond and great customer service. We also left two rolls of paper towel for the next guests along with a roll of aluminum foil that we used for wrapping pizza. 😊"

The suite is a full basement in a detached house. It has two bedrooms each with a queen bed. The suite has its own private bathroom that includes a walk-in shower. The space also has a living room with a Smart TV, free WI-FI and Kitchenette. The Kitchenette has mini-fridge, dishwasher and basic dishes along with a double hot plate burner. The suite also features a dedicated workspace with a desk and a chair. There is no sharing with others and entire space will be yours in the basement. Our place is kid friendly.

Guests will be able to park one car on the private driveway. There is a well lit pathway to the side entrance to basement. If you have more than one vehicle, please discuss with hosts first prior to booking.

Check yourself in with a smart lock anytime after 3 p.m. There are no keys to keep track off!
Guest will have to go down steps to access basement from the side entrance. There are handrails all along the steps.

The Good Northern is a gorgeous film-themed cottage home nestled into natural landscaping on the lazy Mississippi River, home to tons of wildlife. Perfect for quiet retreats and active family vacations, there's plenty to do from kayaking to exploring the Ottawa valley to relaxing in the hammock or the custom outdoor sauna. Our all-season cottage is packed with amenities like wifi, Netflix, BBQ, fire pit, canoe, kayaks, games, and bikes.

Enjoy a cozy stay in out 2-bedroom, 1.5-bath cottage situated at the end of a private road in the island community of Glen Isle, just minutes from Almonte and Carleton Place and nestled in the natural splendor of the Ottawa Valley. The Mississippi River runs through our backyard and is home to wildlife like beavers, loons, geese, bullfrogs, and otters.

Each room in the home is subtly themed after a film or tv series that we love—The Life Aquatic, Amélie, and The Big Lebowski—yet also designed to be comfortable and livable with plenty of seating and things to do. The unique spaces make a perfect backdrop for playful vacay photos.

While you'll spend a lot of your time outside, the cottage has two spaces that allow you to enjoy the outdoors even if it's raining or buggy: a sun room with panoramic views of the lake and a screened-in 3-season porch (May to October only) with views of the lush landscape.

The main bedroom features a queen Endy mattress and a sitting area. The second bedroom has a double memory foam mattress. The main upstairs bath is a full bath with tub and shower. There is a small powder room off the kitchen on the main floor.

The living room features a tv with AppleTV, Amazon Prime TV, and Netflix and a small reading nook with toys, games, and books for children. The sunroom has ample seating, board games, and a working bubble gum machine.

On the back porch, facing the river, you'll find a patio dining set and Napoleon BBQ. Wander down to the river and relax in Muskoka chairs by the fire pit.

The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals: fridge, stove, oven, microwave, kettle, french press (coffee), teapot, utensils, dishes, glasses, pots, pans, coffee, tea, salt, pepper, oil, baking sheets, etc.

In the garage, you will find seasonal summer activities including four bikes. While we have a limited number of helmets, we advise that you bring your own for the best fit. We also have a regulation corn hole game and beanbags to carry out onto the lawn. In the garage, you can play a round of darts or foosball. Garage activities available May to October.

Outside, we have two kayaks and a canoe with paddles and adult and youth life preservers for use from May to October. There is a fire pit for use (purchase your own firewood locally), for evening bonfires when local bylaw permits.

Our sauna was lovingly custom built by us to maximize the beauty of the property. The dry sauna has in-house controls and large windows facing the river and the picturesque sunsets.

The Good Northern is a 7 minute drive to the heart of Carleton Place's restaurants, breweries, activities, and shops including an LCBO and several grocery stores. We are also within 12 minutes of Almonte's main street, and 30 minutes to downtown Ottawa. Set in the Ottawa Valley, we are central to many other attractions like ski hills, golf courses, sugar bushes, and hiking trails.

The suite is a completely private with a separate entrance and fully renovated basement in a detached house. It has two bedrooms each with a queen bed. The bright living room has a big L-shape couch and smart TV with Cable. The bathroom has a walk-in shower. The space also has a living room with a smart TV, free WI-FI and a Kitchenette. The Kitchenette has mini-fridge, dishwasher and basic dishes along with a double hot plate burner (please note its not a full Kitchen but a small Kitchenette). There is no sharing with others and entire space will be yours in the basement.

Smoking is not allowed inside. The large back garden is privacy fenced and has a BBQ and firepit which you can use.

Pets can be considered on a case by case basis: they are to be supervised when in the apartment - not left alone unless they are kept in their carriers. They are not allowed on furniture. It is a carpeted space so any animals with house-breaking issues should be restricted to the sunroom; dogs are welcome in the back yard but please collect and discard any feces.

There are no laundry facilities on site. There is a good, coin-operated laundromat 3 km away. For extended stays, we can discuss taking your laundry to our home for washing and drying.

Guests have one parking space in the driveway and more street parking is available. Please look for guest parking signage. The apartment and sunroom are for the exclusive use of guests. The large back yard is shared with our family though we can discuss special occasions when you would like sole use of it. The apartment is accessed from stairs and is not wheel chair accessible.

Other things to note
We remind guests that the kitchenette has many emenities but does not have a full range. We provide a Ninja Foodi oven, microwave, induction cooktop, toaster, coffee maker and electric tea kettle. In summertime, we can provide an electric outdoor BBQ for your use.

Also, we provide an HDMI cable which can be used with the Roku TV if you want to stream from your computer; you can also bring your own game consoles/controllers. There are many free streaming options on the Roku; we do not subscribe to cable services.

The space
Welcome to our cozy, brand-new, fully furnished 3-bedroom house, ideal for families, friends, and pet owners! This spacious home accommodates up to 6 guests, with each bedroom thoughtfully designed for comfort and relaxation.
The place is centrally heated for those cold winter days.

Our location offers the best of nature and convenience: just a 2-minute walk to a dog park, a 3-minute stroll to the beautiful Ottawa River Promenade, and a 15-minute walk to a sandy beach complete with splash pads—perfect for a fun day out! For further adventures, we’re only a 22-minute drive to the Canadian Tire Center and Kanata, with downtown Ottawa also within easy reach. Nearby downtown Carleton Place features an array of charming restaurants, cafes, and shops.

Pet-friendly and equipped with all the essentials, our home is the perfect retreat for a memorable stay in the Ottawa area!

Our guests are welcomed to use all parts of the house, including the finished basement which is great for playing family games

Enjoy easy access to everything from this perfectly located home base. Stay with friends! This unit features 3 bedrooms, the main floor studio features it's own kitchenette and full en-suite bathroom. Upstairs is another full bathroom, kitchenette and two more bedrooms.

The space
The downstairs unit features a queen bed, full ensuite bathroom, closet and kitchenette.

Upstairs are two more bedrooms, another kitchenette with a small table, and a full bathroom.

The main bedroom features a king bed with seating area.

The secondary bedroom features a queen bed, walkin closet and seating area.

Both kitchenettes are supplied with everything you need to create a simple meal (no oven, but they do have toaster ovens and induction burners). Each kitchenette also has a small seating area for 2 people to dine.

Each bedroom has it's own seating area, however the unit does not have a distinct "living room" area.

The unit accessible from a dedicated entrance at the back of our century home.

Guest access
This unit is accessible from a dedicated Airbnb entrance at the back of the house.

There are steps down from the driveway and stairs within the unit; the studio on the main floor only has one step, but the other two bedrooms which are in the suite are on the second level and the staircase is a bit narrower and steeper than a standard staircase; unit therefore may not be suitable for those with mobility or balance issues.

Driveway parking is limited to two standard-sized vehicles per reservation but street parking is available and free (pls message for details)

You will receive a code for the door the morning of your reservation.

Other things to note
As the home is a century home there will be some noise transfer.

Although the kitchens have microwave, induction burner, toaster and toaster oven, they do not have a full-size oven.

There is parking available for two standard sized vehicles in the driveway and there is ample street parking available for larger vehicles.

The AC is installed seasonally in the bedrooms.

The suite is located on the second level up a stair case that is slightly narrower and steeper than a standard staircase; this might not be suitable for those with mobility or balance issues. The studio is on the main floor but there are still a few steps, and a cobbled terrace.

Carleton place is not located in Ottawa; we are about 25 minutes from Kanata and 44 from downtown Ottawa, and about 50 minutes from YOW

Located in Carleton Place just steps from the Mississippi River, it is in a beautiful, peaceful location. There are 2 parking spots available in the driveway and more on the street. 15 minute drive from Kanata.

Note - the pool entertainment gates are to the far right of the safety fence (by the 5 Adirondack chairs). Please keep this gate closed at all times & latched as an extra layer of safety when traveling with children & pets.

Please take a moment to review all our house rules, especially those regarding pets.

We take great pride in preparing our home for guests and kindly ask that you treat it with the same respect you would your own home.

To ensure a seamless experience, we provide daily service. Each morning around 6:30 AM, your host or a designated helper will arrive to maintain the property in pristine condition. This includes vacuuming the pool, treating the hot tub, watering the plants, and managing recycling and garbage. Our goal is to offer you exceptional service while minimizing any disruption to your stay—you likely won’t even be awake before we leave! If you are - come say hi :)

We want your backyard spa oasis to be "ready-to-go" at all times.

As dog lovers, we welcome your furry friends, but please remember that our beds and pool are reserved for humans only. We maintain high cleanliness standards for all guests.

Upon request, we’re happy to provide a doggy pool or crate for your convenience.
