Pull up on the drive of Rock Lobster, and you are immediately struck by how much you start to hear the world differently. Simple sounds all the more audible, somehow—the crunch of the gravel under tyre; on any given day, the North Sea lisping, washing or crashing against the stubborn volcanic rocks. The wind whistling a breezy sea shanty or carrying with it the billowing of Norse gods. One thing, however, remains constant: the utter calm and mesmerising tranquillity of Rock Lobster. Step through the slate blue front door, and the combination of space, light and quality fixtures and fittings instantly say that you're going to enjoy this break. The sense of openness is soothing and rejuvenating.
Rock Lobster's open plan kitchen/diner/living room dispenses with blinds or window dressings to take full advantage of the superb views out to sea. The elegant kitchen, with its cool blue hues and dining area, is the perfect place to watch the sunrise. An oven and warming drawer, induction hob, two dishwashers, American-style stainless steel fridge/freezer, and microwave makes feeding eight guests a breeze. A dining table to accommodate your whole party is a sociable way to start or end the day. The lounge area with its large comfy sofa and armchairs comes with a wall-mounted TV, electric wood burner-style stove, and patio doors to the front of the property. There's also a handy utility room with washing machine and condenser tumble drier, and a cloakroom with WC and basin.
Two of the four bedrooms are on the ground floor. One with a double bed and ensuite shower room and WC. The other that can be made up as either a super-king or twin beds and a bathroom that also has a walk-in shower, and WC. It's been said that nearby Dunstanburgh Castle was built to resemble and outshine the castles built in Wales. And it's from Wales that Rock Lobster borrows too, with Melin Tregwynt Welsh woollen blankets and throws adorning all the beds; simple in spirit, satisfying in quality and timeless in design.
The main lounge occupies the house's prime spot on the first floor. There are enticing, comfy sofas and a smart TV, although the bifold doors to the balcony with stunning sea views will probably mean you'll watch less TV than ever. Don't be surprised if you're rewarded with the sight of dolphins dancing.
There are another two bedrooms on the first floor, each with a king-size bed, ensuite shower room and WC, although a shrewd guest will work out which one has the Juliet balcony with stunning views and bagsy that one first.
With central and underfloor heating, all power, linen and towels taken care of, you're free to kick back and plan your Northumberland adventures. The world's your oyster. Or is that lobster?
Full-length doors lead out to the patio area with its tasteful wooden table and chairs—it is many a guest's favourite spot. The secure wrap around lawn is as simple and well-kept as the house.
The converted garage is now a games room with table tennis, table football, sofas, separate shower room, WC and basin—handy if the North Sea winds bring with them inclement weather.
There's parking on the drive for up to four cars.
Within walking distance of Rock Lobster is a brilliant children's playground, Jolly Fisherman pub, The Shoreline Cafe, Mick Oxley Art Studio as well as the famous tiny horseshoe harbour and L Robson & Sons for your legendary Craster Kippers (not to be missed).
- "A fantastic property in fantastic position. Just wish the dolphins were programmed to appear as we only saw them twice. My daughter is here from the USA and widely travelled and she loved the house and area. The house is Very well equipped and the information provided beforehand outstanding. Thank you for a memorable holiday." - "Another wonderful week here with extended family. It’s a lovely bright, clean and very well equipped property, in a wonderful location by the sea. Always great to spot the dolphins (or are they porpoises?) Lovely area for walks, bike rides, picnics, kayaking and messing about on the beaches/harbour and rock pools. Great local pub and cafes and of course Craster kipper shop. Nice new local farm/grocery shop/post office in Embleton also deserves a mention. We’ll be back!"

Middlerigg perches above the harbour on the aptly named Haven Hill. With its strong stone walls and elevated position, it's removed enough to observe the activity below but close enough to feel part of it all. It is both homely and elegant—a palette of slate and oak, dressed with Welsh woollen blankets and warmed by a woodburning stove—ready for friends and family to gather. The glazed archway in the well-equipped open-plan kitchen-diner looks out to the immensity of the North Sea and a spellbinding coastline stiff with magic. The dramatic ruins of 14th-century Dunstanburgh Castle loom to the north. The mezzanine floor adds to the airy ambience but also, usefully, provides an additional upstairs lounge area. The main lounge, downstairs, with its woodburning stove, Smart TV, wifi, and Sonos speakers, provides the perfect space for a cosy evening in with loved ones. There's also a handy utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
Upstairs there are three roomy bedrooms, all with luxurious super king-size beds and one with useful zip and link system that converts it into two twin beds. A combination of Egyptian cotton, hypo-allergenic duvets and Melin Tregwynt woollen blankets will spoil you for anywhere else. Every bedroom has an ensuite shower room with toasty underfloor heating.
There's air source central heating throughout Middlerigg; the perfect foil for any chilled winds brought in by the North Sea.
If you're not a weather watcher already, you will inevitably become one while at Middlerigg. Watch as the seascape constantly repaints itself. When the sun shines, the glazed archway doors of the kitchen-diner lead to a patio seating area, where you can sit and watch not only the weather but turnstones pick through the bladderwrack and linnets, cormorants and eider ducks going about their respective business. Don't be surprised if the enticing aroma of oak-smoked kippers wafts from the nearby L Robson & Sons - home of the legendary Craster Kippers. Not to be missed. On your doorstep is the wonderfully take-me-as-you-find-me Jolly Fisherman. A simple pub serving well-priced crab sandwiches that are perfect washed down with a pint of Black Sheep ale. There's even off-road parking for up to two cars—a real coup for the intimate streets of this small village.
This retreat by the sea awaits you and your family this summer.

We’ve stayed in some lovely places home and abroad but this is probably the best we’ve had - especially with that view and outside terrace." - "Middlerigg was a superb property to stay in. It is so well equipped, relaxing and the beds so comfortable. The location ,overlooking Craster harbour, is amazing. We had lovely weather so we were able to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the outside space. Beautiful property. Comfortable and social lounge for evenings. Gorgeous showers. Harbourway sits on West End, the curving road that runs gently downhill to Craster's double-walled quay. It's the end house of a pair, and faces south, with the charming front garden offering panoramic views down to the harbour and the North Sea. It also ensures you're a little removed from the village hustle and bustle.
Inside, Harbourway has everything you'd expect of a traditional seaside cottage. Beams and wooden effect porcelain floors run throughout, and decorative touches hint at the house's maritime heritage – a pair of oars placed over a hearth, a wicker crab pot, a porthole window peeping out onto blue northern skies. Unusually for Craster, Harbourway offers plenty of parking – there's space for upto four cars.
On one side of the house is the spacious living room, a cosy space for relaxing, with deep sofas to sink into, and a wood burner recessed into the handsome inglenook fireplace. On the other side is the dining room, with another impressive granite fireplace with electric wood burning stove providing the focal point. Both have big bay windows with window seats to make the most of the views.
From here, arched French doors open out onto the sun-room, a light-filled space filled with additional seating, and warmed by underfloor heating. Another set of sliding doors leads out onto the front patio - perfect for sunny summer breakfasts.
The kitchen is at the back of the house, open-plan in design and cottagey in feel. It's fully equipped with an integrated dishwasher, electric range cooker, american fridge freezer, washer/dryer and a wine fridge. A small passageway leads past the stairs to a cosy bedroom with en-suite shower room, the first of four, tucked away into the northeast corner of the cottage and very private. The bed in this room can be made up as either a super-king or twin beds.
There are three more bedrooms upstairs: two further en-suite shower rooms, with another smaller twin bedded room ideal for children sandwiched between, and a modern family bathroom at the top of the stairs. The cottagey feel continues up here: pine doors, solid wooden beams and the super comfy beds are dressed with Melin Tregwynt woollen blankets.
Harbourway is also dog-friendly - you're welcome to bring along a well-behaved canine companion, as long as it's at least a year old.
If you fancy exploring Craster, just downhill from the cottage you'll find the legendary local fishmonger L. Robson and Sons, famous for their smoked kippers, and the Jolly Fisherman Inn, a friendly local hangout and a fine spot for an evening pint.
- "We had the most amazing week here ,great attention to detail in the house with everything you need in place , top quality everything ! Note separate bathroom for small, upstairs twin does not have a walk in shower just a bath , a fab bath but not suitable for elderly relatives. The view from the garden & outside table was amazing . We were very lucky with the weather so spent a lot of time enjoying the house & location , Robsons smokehouse provided fab food as did a fishing trip with Doug & his grandson Reece , catching lots of mackerel & cod , so tasty , & buying amazing lobsters from them . The local pub is in amazing location but over priced & not the food we expected from previous reviews , great staff but not such great food & the chips from the van outside were sooooooo expensive . None of this could detract from the most amazing stay in the best location in Craster & a truly amazing holiday stay ."

The newly redecorated and refurbished mid-terrace coastal cottage welcomes you with a roomy, open-plan living area including a multi-fuel stove and sophisticated, laid-back Scandi-style sofas. It's been said that this is the perfect luxury retreat to come back to at the end of the day, especially after a bracing and beautiful coastal walk.
The fully-fitted kitchen and dining area are not unfamiliar with a feast on Christmas Day, so are more than capable of coping with the rustling up of a soothing supper. Knocking up some of the town's world-famous kippers for breakfast will provide the perfect sustenance for a day exploring the enchanting mix of fishing villages, market towns, wide-open beaches and magical castles.
This luxury coastal cottage has two double bedrooms, one with an ensuite, and a twin room with a family bathroom—white fluffy white towels are supplied. The beds are super comfy and dressed with Melin Tregwynt woollen blankets. The upper floors provide stunning views of the ragged silhouette of Dunstanburgh Castle.
Downstairs, a useful utility room and WC are located just off the kitchen - perfect for added convenience during your stay. French doors lead from the seating area to a rear deck with patio furniture, so no matter what time of day, you can sit with a refreshing drink as you plan your next adventure. Another set of French doors open out to the front of the cottage, where a perfectly positioned table and chairs allow you to take in the sea air and listen to the gulls. Don't be surprised if the enticing aroma of oak-smoked kippers wafts from the nearby L Robson & Sons. There's also handy off-road parking for two cars.
It's just a two-minute stroll to the harbour. In a world of overly manicured gastropubs, there's the wonderfully take-me-as-you-find-me Jolly Fisherman, a simple pub serving well-priced crab sandwiches that are perfect washed down with a pint of Black Sheep ale.

The cottage is only a minute's walk up Haven Hill from Craster's harbourfront, so you're right in the heart of the village here, but the cottage is set back from the road, guaranteeing peace and quiet.
Driftwood is one of a cluster of similar cottages, most of which date from the late 1800s (in fact, it's right next door to one of our other Craster properties, Harbourway).
Like the other cottages in the terrace, it's pretty as a postcard. Step through the gate and walk up the garden path to the house, then enter the delightful open plan kitchen/dining/living room a beautifully designed space with deep sofas a window seat to view harbour life taking place, and a gorgeous stone fireplace, the hearth charred coal-black by a couple of centuries' worth of open fires (thankfully, for ease of use, there's a woodburner these days).
The room sets the decorative tone for the rest of the house: light walls, pine doors, wood effect porcelain floors and knick-knacks dotted around for character. The kitchen is compact but well equipped, with induction hob, electric oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave and a washer dryer. At the rear of the property, there is a further small stone seating area with a barbecue, ideal for summertime suppers.
Both bedrooms are upstairs, and furnished in our "Catch the Breeze" signature style; one has an en-suite shower room and there is also a further bathroom in between them. If it gets really chilly there is air source central heating throughout keeping the cottage toasty, but once the woodburner's roaring away downstairs you more than likely won't need them.
Handily, there are two parking spaces – a rarity in Craster – and the cottage is in a super spot for exploring: Dunstanburgh Castle is just north along the coast, while southwards, the coast path leads to Cullernose Point. Don't miss picking up some smoked fish from the harbourside curing sheds: a fresh kipper makes the ultimate Craster breakfast.
A well-behaved dog is welcome: all we also ask that they're aged one or over.
- "We were over the moon with this cottage. Great location in Craster with sea views. Cottage is fitted to a high standard, everything you need for your stay and more. It was so cosy we didn’t even need to light the log burner in the sub zero temperatures! We’ll definitely stay here again." - "Driftwood is a beautiful cottage and a real home from home. Very tastefully decorated and is such an idyllic location. We will be back." - "This was our first holiday since 2017 and we decided to treat ourselves to a really good holiday cottage. We chose Driftwood and we were not disappointed! Every comfort was provided for, the welcome package was exceptional, the decor was tasteful and we absolutely loved it. Having a good sized en suite meant that both we and our teenage daughter could have the use of a nice bathroom. The kitchen was really well-supplied with crockery, cutlery and utensils. The sitting room was comfortable and the TV very new and all hooked up to the Wi-Fi. The location is stunning with views down the hill to the sea. Craster itself is beautiful and only 15 minutes drive from Alnwick so you get the best if both worlds in terms of how you spend your time. We had a brilliant week and would thoroughly recommend Driftwood to anyone looking for a quiet getaway."

It has a tiered garden which is detached from the property, about 30 yards away with views to the sea and harbour. The coastal path leads to Dunstanburgh Castle and onto the sandy beaches at Embleton. Brimming with character and sprinkled with family antiques, this holiday cottage provides a homely and welcoming base to explore this magnificent coastline and beyond. Craster is steeped in tradition and centred on the ‘picture-postcard’ harbour, where visitors should try the smoked Craster kippers from the smokery or the local pub. Escape to Hideaway Cottage, a delightful former fisherman’s house overlooking the harbour.
The property has been sympathetically restored retaining exposed stone walls, beamed ceilings and inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove. The shaker style kitchen comes complete with modern appliances, there’s a separate dining and cosy living room with plenty of seating for six guests. Stripped wood floors throughout the ground floor add to the character of this delightful holiday home. Accommodation is over three floors, there’s a garden area and private parking.
It’s all about the location - but if you can tear yourself away from the harbourside it’s worth exploring the historic market town of Alnwick (6 miles), a great place to do a little shopping or stop off for lunch or a coffee, there’s also a weekly market but don’t miss out on the magnificent castle, most famous for being transformed into Hogwart’s castle in the first two Harry Potter movies. Hideaway Cottage is a great base for exploring the many beaches along the coastline… so relax… there’s something for everyone!

- "This is a really lovely cottage. The interior is of a very high quality and I think the photos on the web site don't quite do justice to that. The garden room is particularly nice to sit in, and the underfloor heating in there and elsewhere in the cottage is really nice. The cottage owners were very friendly and helpful. Most importantly as I have teenage children the WIFI is very good! Other reviews have mentioned the parking. This was fine - the cottage has access to a dedicated parking space which is one of three parallel parking bays that are quite long (I have quite a big car) and the middle one is not being used currently. If all three were used at the same time it would be a bit tight but even then not a problem. Overall would love to go back! Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo"

- "The village location was perfect. The cottage is right in the heart of the small village overlooking the harbour. We enjoyed the convenience of the private parking and the on your doorstep scenery and vistas. It was great that the pub was a 2 minute walk away in one direction and in the other Dunstanburgh Castle was less than 2 miles away on a lovely coastal walk across fields with views of the castle and cliffs all the way. The picturesque harbour across the road was visible from the main bedrooms and the famous smokehouse of craster was opposite the pub. We loved the location. The inside of the house was very spacious and had everything we needed. It was a shame that the garden wasn't suitable for the children to play in. The back patio had bits of wood lying about and extremely thorny bushes and the front garden is elevated with a drop to the harbour side and not enclosed enough."

- "Loved the cottage, it was so close to the sea and you can walk to Dunstanburgh Castle ruins. The Jolly Fisherman does lovely food. It lacks a easy to access small grocery shop and there is no phone signal at all in the village. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo" - "Another great holiday in Craster. Bramble Cottage in an ideal location for fresh air and peaceful recuperation. Cottage was great, everything we wanted. Only slight issue is that the private drive for parking was to tight for the larger car. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo"

- "Excellent property in a great location. A few minor things to sort out : Only one black bin liner and two dishwasher tablets left for a one week stay. All other properties we stay in give an adequate supply. More serving dishes would be useful. The thermostat on the oven needs looking at because it didn’t reach the correct cooking temperature on several occasions. There’s a gap in the roof guttering at the back which meant that a lot of water was cascading down the back outside wall during heavy showers. Didn’t bother us but will damage your property."

A 200 year old fisherman's cottage which can accommodate a maximum of 6 adults and 2 children.
Coble Cottage was home to my grandparents for more than 30 years and holds many cherished memories. I restored the house in recent years, while retaining as many original features as possible. The exposed stone walls on the ground floor and large fireplace give the house its character - while my grandpa's paintings of local castles which adorn the walls, are a nod to its past.
Coble Cottage can accommodate a maximum of 6 adults and 2 children.
The cottage is perched above the picturesque Craster Harbour and boasts incredible sea views from its lawned front garden, complete with eight-seater circular picnic table.
On entering the cottage you will be wowed by the open plan living and dining area, which offers ample space for entertaining, comfy seating and a stunning fireplace with multi fuel burner at its heart.
Adjacent to the living room is a spacious shower room with washing machine, tumble dryer and pretty garden view. There is also a guest cupboard, stocked with various household items, from garden parasol to baby and beach gear, located next to the living room.
The kitchen is to the rear of the cottage and features exposed stone walls, a huge electric range cooker, a cosy breakfast table and every kitchen gadget and item of glassware and crockery you could need.
From here there is direct access to the gated patio garden with table and bench seating from which you can enjoy the last rays of the evening sun.
Upstairs you will find an impressive master bedroom with super king zip and link bed (can be arranged as two singles) with two large wardrobes, bedside tables and window with blackout blind.
There are two further king bedrooms one arranged at the front and one to the rear of the cottage - both complete with wardrobes, bedside tables and blackout blinds.
Finally there is a cosy bunk room for children with chest of drawers and a velux window with blackout blind.
All bedding is hypoallergenic, with Egyptian cotton bedlinen.
There is a large family shower room on the first floor, with double-size enclosure, a vanity unit with basin and storage beneath and window with views across the gardens.

You will have access to the whole property except for the housekeeper/services locked cupboards and garden shed.

Region: Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.
Town: A picturesque village that seems to tumble into the sea, Craster was an important fishing harbour in the 17th century and is still famous for its oak cured kippers which have graced the best breakfast tables for more than 150 years. The village offers a pub serving food, a fish restaurant and Robson's famous fish shop. There is also an excellent children's playground. Nearby are some of Northumberland's finest sandy beaches. Just south of Craster is Howick Hall, which was built in 1782 and has associations with the Grey family, including Earl Grey the great social reformer and tea enthusiast. The gardens at Howick Hall are open to the public during the spring and summer and are especially worth a visit during the rhododendron season. Located in the popular fishing village of Craster, just off the beaten track, on a quiet lane behind Robson's Smokery, famous for its Craster Kippers, this historic mid-terraced stone cottage was formerly a school house, and has the benefit of being within a stone's throw of the harbour front, village art gallery, cafe and even the pub. If you’d like to leave your car parked up at the cottage and take a longer walk, we recommend visiting Dunstanburgh Castle along the coastal path or perhaps Howick to the south of the village.
This characterful cottage has been renovated to the highest standards and yet retains so much of its original charm, with exposed beams and the original stone inglenook fireplace. The blues, whites and greys of the decor reflect a coastal theme and the logburner will keep you cosy in the cooler months.
The garden outside is a gorgeous little suntrap and a lovely place to sit in the evening with a nice glass of something cold while dinner is cooked on the barbeque!
