- "Friendly Northumbrian Hotel/Pub Excellent" - "We had a really excellent 5 day stay. Our room (3) was huge with 2 kingsize beds and a large sofa. Bathroom was also a good size. The breakfast was good with excellent friendly, prompt service. A really good location for visiting the area and not too busy. Parking was never a problem. It would have been useful to have some plug-in bed side lights rather than battery operated nightlights. Overall, a wonderful stay and we would definitely stay here again. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, which enhanced our stay."

Great location & property spotless and well equipped " - "It was 5 mins away from Cragside National trust. The property was clean and really nice to stay in. " - "Beautiful area. Friendly staff. Really enjoyed our stay." - "Great location, and site well maintained. Quiet (in the main). Easy walk to village. Lodge was well maintained and clean - although internal doors would have benefitted from a duster! No WI-FI - not really acceptable with todays technology available. In its absence, an information folder about things to do and places to eat in the area would have been helpful - alas, there was nothing. Some information on how the cooker worked would have been an asset (e.g. cooking times with difference in oven temps for cooking on propane) Contractors were on site whilst we stayed there - still using electric saws and radio turned up loud until 7pm in the evening. Disappointing, for an otherwise excellent stay. All of this was reported to reception upon our departure, who advised that it would noted and passed upward. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful where they could be. We shall return (hopefully contractors will have completed their tasks by then!) "

Following reflects a past visitor's VERY successful and satisfying stay:-
Hello Chris and Fiona,
I thought you might like some feedback on our holiday:
Sawmill Cottage felt like home; a good place to relax in the evenings after a busy day out. We effectively had five days to explore Northumberland but we squeezed in quite a lot. The Sunday was the only rainy day and we spent time indoors at Cragside which was full of interest and definitely worth a visit. On the other days we walked for miles all around Northumberland: from Craster to Howick Hall and back then onto Dunstanburgh Castle and back to Craster. Howick Hall gardens are beautiful and particularly the new sensory garden. A walk to Windy Gyle on a reasonably good weather day was very windy nonetheless! Great to stand at Russel's Cairn and look into Scotland one way and England the other. A visit to Holy Island and then to Berwick on Tweed where we walked the Elizabethan town walls on Wednesday. On our final day we completed the Rothbury Round; a day of beautiful weather and probably our favourite walk of the holiday with the bonus of a starting point 5 minutes away in Rothbury.
This was our first visit to Northumberland. We didn't realise how big an area it is and how many different experiences are available for holiday makers. The countryside is less frequented than most of the other areas we've visited in England and results in more unspoilt countryside and an abundance of wildlife. It has left us wanting to return and I'm sure we will in the not too distant future. Sawmill Cottage is an ideal base, quiet and perfectly located on the edge of the national park and just half an hour from the coast. We enjoyed our holiday. Thank you.
Regards,
Martin
- "Fabulous cottage in a quiet setting. Airy and light & welcoming. Nice big dining kitchen with (more than!) everything we needed. View from sitting room over the hills was lovely. A great position to trek out from - so near to Cragside National Trust, which is a must! We also visited Wallington & Gibside NT & Holy Island. Thankyou for entrusting us with your home from home - we will definitely be back to explore more of this beautiful area."

A very warm welcome to 'number eleven', a rather unique stay in one of the Addycombe Cottages. This is a Victorian Grade II* listed apartment in the town of Rothbury, overlooking the Coquetdale Valley. The space is peaceful, welcoming and relaxing. Perfect for a romantic escape or a family adventure. Dogs are considered part of the family and are very much welcome.
You will have this first floor apartment to yourselves accessed via the original stone steps to the rear. The living space is open plan featuring an AGA in the kitchen area and a double stove in the inglenook stone fireplace.
A double and a twin bedroom accommodate 4 guests comfortably.
The bathroom has a walk in shower, a slipper bath and for your comfort, under floor heating.
On road parking is available to the rear.
Outside, a short walk from the back gate, there is an enclosed private small garden space where you can sit and have a morning coffee or evening glass of wine amongst the fruit trees.
The terrace of houses were built in 1873. Lord Armstrong commissioned Richard Norman Shaw, the architect of nearby National Trust Cragside House to design and build this row of houses to give retirement homes to the staff of his estate. Designed in a distinctive Domestic Revival style, you can see why visitors come to admire them.

- "Did not want to come home, usually by day 5 I’m getting ready for home but this time was very different. The house itself is just lovely, the location could not be better for anyone who has dogs and/ or children. It’s a peaceful location with walks literally from the gate in any direction. Rothbury is a delight and has everything you could possibly need within a 10 minute walk. The lunchtime deals at La Mensa, the Italian restaurant, are fabulous. The house is so well equipped, everything has been thought out with comfort and usefulness in mind. We cannot wait to come back again. Our first time staying inland rather than on the coast was a rousing success!"

- "A lovely cottage very well located in Rothbury with ease of walking to the local amenities. A comfortable place to stay with a good sized double room. The shower was quite difficult to turn on - the handle was really stiff and was just as difficult to turn off too. Apart from that the cottage was very good and we would recommend it to others."
