Getting around
By car the apartment is about 20 minutes from downtown, 15 minutes from Oakland/university/hospitals and 8 minutes from Squirrel Hill. There is a bus stop at the corner with 3 routes operating roughly every 15 or so minutes to easily use public transport to get to Squirrel Hill, Oakland or downtown. The apartment is approximately 1.5 miles off of the expressway exit (I-376), approximately 25 miles from the airport.

Other things to note
This is a first floor apartment; there are two other units in the building. Quiet for the most part with normal muffled noise from other tenants. Street is busy but apartment extremely quiet, virtually no outside noise heard especially in bedrooms.

The neighborhood is quiet but minutes away from route 22 with stores/restaurants. We never went into Pittsburgh but I would say it is only 20 minutes away with good traffic. Due to the stairs this not a place for some types of special needs. Off street parking was adequate for us and an occasional visitor. The bed in the master BR was comfortable with enough pillows and covers to satisfy. The neighborhood is very quiet so that sleep is never interrupted. Electrical outlets are standard in number but inadequate to support all of the elctronic gadgets we travel with but home depot is a short drive away where strip outlets are available. The rental comes with one key but it turns out we needed two. For a $2.00 investment, we made an additional one which we turned in at the end. I dislike the dining room chairs and the matching table (height). We have lived very nicely with the dining room set for two visits and would not let this be a show stopper for renting again. All in all, this is a home away from home in every sense of the word."

- "The home was exactly as I was expecting.. it’s an older home with older home issues. The bathroom floor was uneven in paces. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen adequate. There was a smoke detector that was NOT installed, it was lying in a drawer. My BIGGEST complaint was the fact that the dryer was broken. In correspondence with Chris he stated that he had told me that it would not be fixed until after our stay and when I corrected him that he did not tell me that his message became a bit condensing towards me. I did not appreciate that at all. Also, if you look back at a review from the previous month you’ll notice they had the same issue with the dryer. He did tell me the week before we were scheduled to arrive that the dryer was broken and would not be fixed BEFORE we arrived, leading me to believe it would be fixed soon. He also offered to reimburse for laundry fees that I never received. Renting a house they advertised a washer and dryer was the main reason we chose a house. Instead, we spent valuable time lugging laundry out and back into the house. I would not recommend this house due to the poor management by Chris. "

As you enter the apartment through the original oval-topped front door, you step into a small welcoming entryway. The first room to your left is the beautiful, brightly lit living room with a unique and useful walk-in closet. The living room is furnished with a new sofa, comfortable chairs, side tables and lighting. A television has been provided for your viewing needs; an HDMI cable is required to connect to a computer. The next room you enter is the fully furnished and decorated dining room which includes a vintage table, 6 matching chairs, a hutch and a buffet. The kitchen is directly behind the dining room and contains simple white cabinets. The counters are a mottled tan laminate and the floor is wood. Large windows make the space bright, although all of the windows have 2” white wood blinds for privacy. There is a single bowl stainless steel sink, a refrigerator, a gas oven and stove top as well as a microwave, a small 18” dishwasher and a full size washer and dryer. The kitchen drawers and cupboards contain kitchen towels, hot pads and pots & pans as well as dishes, glassware and flatware which are for your use. Small appliances like a coffee pot, a hot air popcorn popper and a toaster, etc. are either on the counters or in the cupboards. We have included a small supply of items like dishwasher detergent and dish soap, etc. for your convenience. We will not replace these as they are used up but we wanted you to at least be able to enjoy staying a few days without needing to purchase these basic supplies. We have also filled the canisters with some popcorn, flour, sugar and coffee. The newly remodeled bathroom is to the left of the kitchen and has a white tile floor, a shower, a single bowl sink set into the vanity and a new toilet. Eight sets of towels are located in the apartment for your use. Some of the sets are stored in the bathroom while the remaining sets are stored in the dresser drawers in each bedroom. The large bedroom is located across from the bathroom. It features a beautiful cream colored comforter on a queen-size bed with a comfortable ‘Orthopedic Pillow Top’ mattress and box springs. There is a closet for your clothes, a dresser, a bed-side table and a table lamp. The two side windows can be opened for ventilation. The small bedroom is located beside the bathroom. It features an attractive blue Matelassé comforter on a full size bed with a comfortable ‘Orthopedic Pillow Top’ mattress and box springs. As you enter the foyer of the building, a locked door immediately to the right opens to a stairway that descends to the entrance of the Garden View apartment. The first room you enter is the eat-in kitchen where the cabinets are oak, the counters are mottled tan and the floor is faux granite laminate. A large window makes the space bright although the window has 2” white wood blinds for privacy. The kitchen also has a refrigerator, an apartment-sized gas oven and stove-top and a double-sided sink. The kitchen drawers and cupboards contain kitchen towels, hot pads and pots & pans as well as dishes, glassware and flatware which are for your use. Small appliances like a coffee pot, a hot air popcorn popper and a toaster, etc. are either on the counters or in the cupboards. We have included a small supply of items like dish soap and cleaning supplies, etc. for your convenience. We will not replace these as they are used up but we wanted you to at least be able to enjoy staying a few days without needing to purchase these basic supplies. The bed is flanked by two metal side tables with mirrored surfaces that are topped by pretty table lamps. You’ll also find a closet for storage and hanging clothes as well as a dresser. There are two comfy chairs with tables and lamps next to them where you can relax and read. The big front window and the smaller side windows let in lots of light and can all be opened for ventilation. To the right of the bed is your private, full bathroom. The bathroom has a faux granite laminate floor, a tub with a shower, a toilet and a sink set into a vanity. The vanity has storage underneath it as well as a large round mirror above. A hairdryer and additional towels are stored on the shelves within the bathroom. Four sets of towels have been provided for your use. Plus, just outside the apartment is a large laundry room with a full-size washer and dryer as well as an iron, an ironing board and a vacuum cleaner. These are all available for your use and at your convenience.

Guests have also recommended to me that a fire-stick is needed to connect to Prime video, etc. (Amazon fire Tv stick is a media streaming device which lets you stream video, install apps, play music etc on your tv.)

The next room you enter is the large eat-in kitchen. The kitchen cabinets are simple and white, the counters are a mottled tan laminate and the floor is wood. Large windows make the space bright although all of the windows have 2” white wood blinds for privacy. There is also a refrigerator, a gas oven and stove-top, a dishwasher and an electric washer/dryer combination in the kitchen. The single bowl stainless sink has a disposal and the kitchen drawers and cupboards contain kitchen towels, hot pads and pots & pans as well as dishes, glassware and flatware which are for your use. Small appliances like a coffee pot, a hot air popcorn popper and a toaster, etc. are either on the counters or in the cupboards.

We have included a small supply of items like dishwasher detergent and dish soap, etc. for your convenience. We will not replace these as they are used up but we wanted you to at least be able to enjoy staying a few days without needing to purchase these basic supplies. We have also filled the canisters with some popcorn, flour, sugar and coffee.

The last room you will enter is the bedroom which features a striking black queen-size bed with a comfortable, Mattress Factory ‘Orthopedic Pillow Top’ mattress and box springs that has been covered in a lovely burgundy coverlet. The bedroom also features a large closet for storage and hanging clothes, a dresser, a side table and a table lamp. An attractive fireplace mantel, original to the building, adds interest. The big front window and the smaller side windows let in lots of light and can be opened for ventilation.
Guest access
Guests can access the front foyer, where the mailboxes and router are located. USPS has a code allowing them to enter the foyer. Each apartment is completely separate and private.
