It has always been impeccably clean and the staff has always been very attentive. There are little extras in the room such as a small coffee pot, microwave, iron, mini fridge, toiletries and snacks as well as a door-delivered local morning paper. Buffet breakfast is included - there's coffee, teas, hot chocolate, make-your-own belgian waffles, sausage, scrambled eggs, muffins, breads, english muffins & bagels with cream cheese, fruit, yogurt, juice & milk and cereal, etc - something for everyone. The hotel accepts pets as long as you declare them and there's a dog run area in the back behind one of the buildings. There is a pool that is half indoor, half outdoor, vending machines, plenty of accessible ice makers and even a bbq area. The only somewhat negative thing I have to report is that the beds are a little firm for me - personal preference I'm sure. Regarding activities - there is a view of and access to the Eel River right across the street with a walking trail (bank fishing for salmon/steel head when in season). There's also a community center with a neat heather garden to walk through. The local Eel River Brewery w/restaurant (and horseshoe pits) is around the corner (walking distance) and don't forget to visit quaint Ferndale and the Loleta Cheese Factory (great cheese, view the cheese making process, lots of samples) which are both close by (10 min driving). Overall a great place to stay with breakfast included - we won't stay anywhere else in Fortuna!"

- "I wasn’t expecting anything mind blowing, and the woman at the front desk was really nice and that area was clean, but when I got to my room, it was a different story even though the bed was clean the surrounding room, the bathroom and the kitchen area were also filthy that I didn’t feel comfortable in the bed even though it was the cleanest part of the room I only encountered one cockroach, but that’s enough isn’t it? It went through an entire package of wet wipes, trying to wipe down everything to no avail. The blinds in the bathroom are so covered in filth. I actually tried to take them down and wash them in the shower, but they would not come down. There were no curtains in the kitchen, so anybody walking down the alley could look right into my apartment. All the furniture was mismatched and had stickers all over it and there was a healthy layer of dust on many things, but it was so late at night I had to deal with it and managed to get a few hours of sleep, but left promptly in the morning. I was going to do some laundry at the laundry room, but there were some “extracurricular activities” going on up there by the other tenants so I just stayed in my room. There’s no excuse for that kind of filth, where people will be sleeping. And I couldn’t return my keys because the lobby door was locked in the morning so I put them in the mailbox. Hopefully, they found them."

Only issue was a neighbor nearby who did not observe quiet hours (loud shouting and yelling in the middle of the night and early hours) and they also left a dog outside barking for several hours. The space

Francis Creek House is a comfortable and cute two bedroom, one bathroom (shower only) home with a large kitchen, living room, and dining room. The bistro table and propane barbecue on the large back deck are great for enjoying a sunny day and the quiet ambiance of Francis Creek, which runs behind the house. This home is one of the oldest in our town, and we love how you can see the original hand-hewn cedar beams in the kitchen.

The house has wifi throughout and cable television in the living room. The beds and carpet are brand new and the interior of the home is all freshly painted. We have on-demand hot water and forced-air heating. There's a laundry room with a washer and dryer for your use. Enjoy coffee from the Keurig in the morning. The kitchen has pots and pans and a grocery store one block away for breakfast at home, or head out to the local cafes down the street for a hearty Ferndale breakfast.

Francis Creek Retreat is just a few doors down from the largest living lighted Christmas tree, and a cozy place to watch the Ferndale Lighted Tractor Parade, which passes by the front door of the house each December!

- "Coming from the mountains of Colorado, we did not expect Ferndale to be such a quiet place. Other than the dogs barking once, you don’t hear a thing from this cute house. It was the quietest place we have ever been to. The natural environment must absorb all the sounds. You don’t even wake up to any birds singing. Unbelievable how you could sleep until noon if you forget to set an alarm. We loved the town, house location and especially the lost coast road. The local beach was also so beautiful watching the seals pop up from the waves to say hi. We are so thankful we did not stay further north by the national park. We want to come back someday and try more restaurants in town. Only negative on the house is the lack of dishwasher. Adding a small one even in the laundry room would make the home complete. Thanks for the fun stay. The house had everything we needed! Picking the wild blackberries everywhere made the trip even better. We needed one more day to make the fresh berry pie. Next time. This little private Ranch Cottage is a charmer! Freeway close on a dead end country road you’ll find a lovely farm setting with friendly animals nearby. This studio has a sleeping loft as well, with air mattress and twin futon for sleeping options. Ground floor has a deluxe queen bed, fold out futon, complete kitchen, free WiFi, flat screen tv, full bathroom, and a cedar deck with lounge chairs, swing seat, and a charcoal grill.

A washer and dryer are adjacent to your studio in our Victorian residence with easy access to separate laundry room via side entry door. Guests can coordinate with us in advance to select one day a week that we will keep the room available for your use.
-HOUSEKEEPING PROVIDED-
Keeping the studio clean and keeping our guests comfortable with new linens is our top priority! We will coordinate with you to come in once a week to clean the studio and provide a fresh set of towels and sheets. For this weekly service we charge an additional cleaning fee of $35 per week. This cleaning fee will be requested after a long-term stay booking is accepted.
-SMALL PETS ACCEPTED WITH HOST APPROVAL- (30+ night stays only).
Small pets will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please Contact us in advance There will be one-time additional pet cleaning fee charge of $150 that will be requested prior to booking when you book with pets.

Other things to note
NO SMOKING ANYWHERE
No smoking of anything, vaping or partying anywhere on the premises, inside or anywhere on the property. If you smoke marijuana, cigarettes or vape please do not book here.

Right under the front door, there is a 4” step to get in and out of the studio. In order to take a shower or bath, you have to get inside the bathtub. There are no assist bars anywhere in the bathroom. We don’t recommend booking the studio if you have difficulty getting in and out of a bathtub or need assist grab bars to use the bathroom, tub, or shower.

THE CARRIAGE HOUSE IS ALSO USED BY US
There are no other guests in the carriage house but you. We work quietly upstairs in the craft room and Glenn has a hobby shop downstairs. Your studio is professionally soundproofed. We are respectful of your privacy and are quiet when you are home.

WE WORK ON OUR PROPERTY
We do our own maintenance and repairs. From time-to-time, you might hear mowers, gas powered maintenance equipment, and tractors during the day.

BOOKING WITH CHILDREN?
Please notify us prior to your arrival if you would like us to move our cleaning supplies from the bottom cabinet to a higher location.
We welcome you to enjoy exploring the outdoors on our property. However, children must be accompanied by adults at all times.
By booking with children, you acknowledge that we are not responsible any injuries in the studio or on the property. Surrounding the carriage house there are steep retaining walls (i.e grass just north of the barn has sudden 5’ foot drop-off), rough terrain, deep culverts along the street, potential drowning from rainwater filled culverts in Winter, and other hazards.

2-ACRE GARDEN
Our large Victorian home adjacent to the carriage house is our private residence and is surrounded by a beautiful 2 acre park-like garden. Please feel free to enjoy our garden and rose gazebo during the day.

FIRE CALL
If you hear a siren sound, it means that the Ferndale fire department is called to action and it alerts volunteers to help someone in need. It also means it’s lunchtime if you hear the fire call at noon.
