- "Very comfortable, good location, Savannah was at the desk when we checked in and had a couple of great local suggestions for dinner and for coffee and dessert." - "We routinely stay in the Bridgeport area as night one of our drive to Florida. Comfort inn had really welcoming friendly front desk staff, as well as the breakfast staff. The room was spacious and clean, the beds were really clean in great shape which i appreciate. The only item showing wear and tear was the sofa/sofabed. It was dirty and worn, which was a bummer because my son did not wish to sleep on it then. I think if they just steam cleaned them, that would really help! Same with the lobby furniture and breakfast chairs. Overall the hotel looks great with friendly staff and confortable beds. We did not get a chance to use the pool but it looked nice. There is a small gym and laundry room as well, If you are sensitive to the smell of hotel cleaning supplies/pool chemicals this may not be the resort for you as the smell is strong. Overall there are a few tweaks I would make, but I would visit this hotel again. Totally reasonable price and quality place for an overnight stay!"

This 2500 square foot log home is nestled in the saddle between two peaks on 40 wooded acres. Overlooking the Laurel Creek Valley and it is home to some of the best uncommercial kayaking in the state of West Virginia. You can step off the porch to go for a walk in the woods or down the gas well road. There are plenty of deer, turkeys and the occasional coyote can be heard in the evening. There is Fishing, Biking and Hiking all within a short distance from the cabin.

On the expansive front porch you can enjoy the wind chimes as you sit and overlook the valley with a glass of wine. There is comfortable couch and chairs to relax on as well as a rocking chair and porch swing. The spacious great room with its high ceilings and open floor plan is wonderful for a large group or a few couples. There is are two full size couches with a TV anda new smart tv, we have starlink and it's been working well but it's possible in inclement weather you may need to resort to the dvd player. We also have a wonderful stand up Baldwin Piano, generally kept in tune! The full kitchen has plenty of workspace for anyone who would like to cook a gourmet meal. It is fully stocked with plenty of plates, serving items, glass and a fantastic dishwasher. There is also general kitchen items available, like salt,pepper,oil flour. We have two bedrooms on the first floor. The “Winter” room which has a Queen Bed facing east towards the sunrise has a large closet and dresser as well as a beautiful antique headboard. The “Summer Room” has a King Bed and overlooks the front porch and view of the valley it also has a large closet and dresser. The full bath with a tile tub and shower also includes a double sink vanity. The laundry room has a washer dryer and utility sink. The second floor has a loft with a recliner and is a great place to curl up with a book, if extra beds are needed this is the perfect spot for an air mattress. We have just added a new office work station with a monitor. We are using starlink so the streaming serivce in this remote area is working fairly well but may struggle to run many devices with inclement weather. There are two bedrooms on the second floor. The “Fall” Master Bedroom with its poster king bed and room darkening curtains is welcoming and wonderful for those who need a very quiet place to rest. The second bedroom is our “Spring Room” and has bunk beds and a trundle bed so 3 can sleep comfortably in this room. With the brightly decorated curtains it’s a perfect room for the kids.

As you come out of the house the back porch wraps around and we have steps which lead down to our outdoor fire pit which is the perfect place to relax with friends and family and enjoy the sunset or see the amazing stars. Many a nights have been spent with good friends and stories around the campfire and there is always a pleasant breeze on the ridge. Check out the map of our trails on the property and get out for a walk, we have about 1.5 miles of our own trails.

In this remote area of West Virginia you are surrounded by amazing scenery and rivers. The Tygart River is just a short drive from the cabin and is known for its beautiful whitewater and swimming. There is Moats Falls which is a 16’ waterfall cascading over the rocks. We can arrange with advance notice private kayaking instruction or rafting trips for any type of group, the gentle float or the class V excitement there is something for everyone. There is a flat water section of river from Philippi to the town of Arden. From Arden to the Teter Creek bridge it becomes Class IV whitewater and you can paddle over the 16’ waterfall if the water level is right! There is also creekin’ available on Teter & Laurel Creek just moments from the house.
The Tygart Lake State Park is another nearby attraction where boats and all types of lake recreation activities are available. You can rent a pontoon boat for the day and enjoy this scenic lake. Another local favorite is Audra State Park where the Middle Fork of the Tygart river flows though tight channels and larger boulders, amazing fishing, hiking and swimming await you at this park.
The famous Blackwater falls is an attraction about an hour from the house. This cascading waterfall drops 65 feet! This area is also home to some of the most famous and amazing Mountain Biking in the state of West Virginia. Stop in the local bike shop, Blackwater Bikes to find out about the trails but you can spend hours riding and even visit an area called “A Ride to the Moon” where you can challenge yourself on some of the most technical riding in the east on the Moon Rocks. This is not for novice riders! However, there are also some great easy trails as well; check out the bike path in Parsons or the Allegheny Trail which goes for miles a nice paved trail for road riders.

The cabin is about 45 minutes from Clarksburg, 2 hours from Charleston and about 1 1/2 hours from Morgantown. If you are flying in either of these airports would work for you. Our driveway is a bit steep and rocky and an SUV is not necessary but recommended. Low clearance cars are not ideal for this driveway.

The Loft is an apartment over our garage that we rent out as a vacation getaway. (We do not use our garage while we have guests) The Loft is fully furnished with a queen size bed, and a fully equipped kitchen for all your cooking needs. (There is a coffee maker, but you will need to bring your own coffee.)
We furnish all linens needed for your stay. You ll need to bring your own shampoo and soap. (Don t forget your robe for the hot tub.)
Hot tub is included in the price for $100.00 a night for 2 adults. Extra guests are $10.00 each per night.

This beautiful 20 foot tent sits on a 24x20 platform giving you a 4foot porch to sit and listen to the sounds of nature. This tent has electric hook ups and running water! WiFi is available if you don’t have cell phone service. T-Mobile has the best service. AT&T and US Cellular 80% coverage. You must bring charging cords. Furnished with a queen size mattress and queen air mattress. We offer outdoor insta heater shower. Firewood bundles are stacked inside with roasting sticks. There is a grill and propane tank on site with grilling utensils, cutting board. Plates and silverware provided. We have a mini fridge with a small freezer. You will also find a 4 cup French press and water kettle. Bug spray and hand sanitizer on site! A propane heater is available upon request for winter months.

There is plenty of space to lay down some sleeping bags for the kids! We are less than a 1/4 mile from Maniac Mountain Haunted House, so you will hear the chainsaws, gun shots, and screams during the Sept-Nov time. We have 160 acres of wilderness you can explore. Be cautious of wildlife and look for WARNING signs. We have a private shooting range in the bottom fields of the property so you may hear gun shots April- August.

For winter months Oct-April water supply will be limited. A propane buddy heater can be requested as well.

Steps from the deck lead down to an 8’ x 8’ dock for fishing, launching kayaks, or dipping your toes in the water. Nearby, a fire pit with Adirondack chairs invites you to gather under the stars. Across the river, you might spot the occasional passing train—only a couple times a day—but its distant whistle adds a touch of rustic charm. Wildlife is part of the experience here: deer, ducks, geese, and squirrels are daily visitors, and on a rare occasion you might see turtles, beavers, mink, bald eagle, or even a black bear. This is rural West Virginia at its best—peaceful, scenic, and full of fresh air.

Other things worth noting: You’ll be just under 6 miles from Audra State Park, about 9 miles from Philippi, and 12 miles from Buckhannon. One fire-pit bundle of wood is complementary. Additional firewood is available at a charge of $5 per bundle. Cell signal is mostly non-existent but cell phones work with wifi calling. You will be in a rural area on the river, so bug spray is recommended.
