We invite you to experience our delightful holiday home, suitably named “Cronan-Na-Mara”, which translates from the Gaelic to “The Murmering of The Sea”. If you are in search of peace, tranquillity and spectacular views over Loch Duich and the mountains of Kintail then look no further.

This south facing detached property is situated on its own secluded plot directly on the shores of Loch Duich. Open the front door and you are a few metres from the water, greeted with striking and uninterrupted panoramic views.

The cottage is situated in the small village of Inverinate on the north shore of Loch Duich in the Kintail/Lochalsh area of the Scottish Highlands not far from the famous bridge over to the Isle of Skye.The location is quite literally a walker’s / outdoor pursuits paradise with hill walking, climbing, water sports and shore walks right on the door step. The cottage is a perfect base to experience everything that the area has to offer and is a fantastic place to relax and unwind in following a day in the outdoors..

Kintail and Lochalsh is one of the most popular areas for walking and climbing in the Scottish Highlands. Kintail itself is famed for its classic mountain ridge walks. The Five Sisters and the South Glen Shiel Ridge are particular favourites of Munro baggers, whilst The Saddle is one of the most magnificent mountains in all Scotland. Closer to Skye is the Lochalsh peninsula between the shores of Loch Duich and Loch Carron. This area offers varied walking with villages such as Plockton as well as the region's main town at Kyle of Lochalsh. Across the dramatic Mam Ratagan pass is the remote and secluded Glenelg peninsula, a tranquil and peaceful haven far from busy routes.

The area is rich in wildlife and with some patience and determination you will be able to see sea otters playing on the shore of Loch Duich and golden eagles soaring around the mountain peeks. There are also deer, pine martin, badgers and wild goats to be seen. There is good fishing locally both in the rivers and sea. Nearby is the Isle of Skye which can be accessed via the Skye Bridge.

Tigh-na-Camus (which means in Gaelic, House by the Bay) is a self-catering stand alone detached traditional highland cottage with a large extension on the back in a completely enclosed private garden. Tigh-na-Camus is situated in a fantastic rural location right next to the seashore & pier in the picturesque village of Glenelg, with uninterrupted and stunning views across the bay to the Isle of Skye. It is a very convenient five minute walk to the centre of the village, where you will find the local grocery shop and the Inn with its restaurant & bar, which throughout the summer months frequently has traditional live music.
Only a short drive will take you to the neighbouring villages which hold a host of other amenities.
We offer a reduction for your 2nd week, plus no extra cost for any four legged companions that week.
The location so close to the shore & pier is excellent for anyone who likes to canoe, paddle board and swim. Also the canoes and paddle boards can be easily stored at the back of the house when not in use.
Tigh-na-Camus is an excellent location for Munro climbing as it is very close to Sqritheall which has a height of 974 metres, with its stunning views, as seen from some of the pictures.
When i was growing up Tigh-na-Camus was the police house in Glenelg. We added a large modern extension at the rear. This incorporates a bright spacious fully equipped and fitted kitchen with a traditional pine table for breakfast or informal meals. Also on the ground floor is the modern bathroom with a curved shower as well as a double bedroom with twin beds. There is also a lounge and a large dining room plus the added bonus of the sun room.
On the first floor are two double bedrooms both with spectacular views over the Sound of Sleat and the Isle of Skye.
There is also an upstairs toilet.
With its comfortable separate dining and living rooms, large modern kitchen plus the sun room, it is an excellent & surprisingly large house right next to the beach to appreciate the wonderful scenery right outside its door.
The large bright sun room at the front of the house is a wonderful place to sit and relax at any moment of the day; the spectacular view across the bay to the nearby Isle of Skye presents a breath-taking vista of unspoiled beauty and can be appreciated in all weathers and is a great favourite with visitors who can sit and wonder at the infinite beauty of Mother Nature.
Tigh-na-Camus sits in the middle of a large private enclosed garden. On the patio situated just outside the kitchen there is a picnic table and on the other side of the garden a bench to relax and enjoy those uninterrupted views southwards down to the Sound of Sleat and across to the Island of Skye.

As there is a problem with sheep in the area, could both gates PLEASE be closed securely. This is another reason we ask that dogs do not go on the furniture as the sheep dung which dogs easily walk through gets trapped in their claws and then leaves permanent stains.

We were blessed with excellent weather too, but even the odd day we stayed in with the plentiful books and games there. Oh, another really good thing. All the "necessities" like toilet roll, kitchen roll, kitchen spray, handwash, bin bags, dishwasher tablets were all provided which was excellent. We loved our stay, it was a home from home and there is nothing bad to say at all. We didnt even really get "midged" which we came prepared for. From Duirinish cross the bridge following the signs towards Plockton, after about 200 yards turn right towards Achmore and Strome Ferry. One hundred yards down the road just after a cattle grid you will see the entrance to Duirinish Holiday Lodges on the right.

Approaching from Inverness and the north on the A890. One hundred yards beyond a sign to the right saying ‘Strome Ferry (no ferry)’ you should turn right into the village of Achmore, also signposted to Plockton. Dornie is a lovely little village along the shores, just across the road from world-famous Eilean Donan Castle. When passing the castle with it on your left, Dornie is off to the right, with Loch Long slithering inland between high hills and mountains. On the opposite side, there is a wee road the runs parallel to the loch into the heart of the mountains. Bramble Bank is along this road on the shores of the magnificent loch.

A few miles along the road you enter the small crofting community of Allt na Sugh - spelt in other ways too, and this is where you will find Bramble Bank, nestled down to the right just above the shores of Loch Long. The property is a spacious detached lodge nestled into the heather-clad hills. Bramble Bank’s aspect from its very own plateau above the loch is truly outstanding with views across the water to the peaks of Sgurr na Cloiche and Sguman Coinntich. It’s an inspiring glen and emblematic of the Scottish Highlands. To be based at Bramble Bank is a peaceful dream, and would suit those wanting to have a bolthole that’s in an awe-inspiring location.

The lodge would be perfect for a couple looking to go walking in the nearby hills and mountains of Kintail. The Falls of Glomach are a short walk away, and Glen Elchaig is an inspiring hike too. There are many routes to explore, and with a dog in tow, you would have a fantastic walking holiday from Bramble Bank. It would make a great base too to explore the surrounding area by car. It is only a short drive along one of the most beautiful Highland roads to the main road linking Inverness and Skye. You can reach the Isle of Skye in 20 minutes from Bramble Bank, and explore the entire island during your stay. Loch Carron, Applecross and Torridon are fairly close to the north, and Glenelg to the south is only a short drive away.

The lodge itself is simply set up. You enter through French doors into the living room which allows you to take in the loch and mountain views. The living room is open plan with the dining room and kitchen. It’s spacious and has triple aspect, so very light. Outside of the property there is space to sit and enjoy surprisingly warm summer evenings. It’s a beautiful spot and you’ll be pleased to be spending time looking out from Bramble Bank. - "When we figured out which house (directions gave the #23, but said to look for #21 on post by white fence - the 'fence was pulled back) The house was exactly as pictured, and we even figured out the washer/dryer (we have never used one of these!) Very helpful to have the book filled with appliance instructions! The view was SPECTACULAR and we spent most of our time at the table in the 'sun' room even though we had alot of rain/sleet and some snow! very cozy when we made a fire a couple of nights (we brought wood with us). Glad we brought provisions with us for a few meals - we were not sure of availability of shopping in the area, but found a coop in Lochalsh We took day trips all over the place, and the scenery is breathtaking!!! Had dinner in Plockton one evening - Plocton Hotel was very nice. Also, the Clachan Pub was great...but they did not serve food until Thursday! We had dinner there our first night (on a Saturday) and stopped by for a beer every day after our adventures! Driving to Urkhart castle and Culloden Battlefield and the Clava Cairns in one day was ALOT, but sooooo worth the drive!!!! Another place you don't want to miss is the Dun Telve Broch in Glenelg- AMAZING! We loved staying here, and the chickens are cute, but they leave landmines all over the porch, and not wanting to track anything through the door, we really had to watch our step! Also, one morning we heard intense pecking, they were eating some insulation outside!"

Duirinish Holiday Lodges Crowlin Lodge is a Canadian Style lodge with 2 bedrooms and one bathroom with walk in shower and 3/4 length bath. There is one double bedroom and one twin room. Crowlin sleeps up to four people. The lodge has electric heating in every room controlled by you, so whatever the weather, or your personal temperature preference, you are in control. Heating and electricity are included in the price of the lodge.

Crowlin is our ‘most returned to’ Lodge. It has a warm cosy feel with a beautiful larch tree outside the window and lots of birds in the trees. Our local fox has been spotted a few times outside the lodge looking up longingly at the fat balls hanging in the tree for the birds!

From Duirinish cross the bridge following the signs towards Plockton, after about 200 yards turn right towards Achmore and Strome Ferry. One hundred yards down the road just after a cattle grid you will see the entrance to Duirinish Holiday Lodges on the right.

Approaching from Inverness and the north on the A890. One hundred yards beyond a sign to the right saying ‘Strome Ferry (no ferry)’ you should turn right into the village of Achmore, also signposted to Plockton. The Super King bedrooms are both en-suite with shower and the King bedroom is directly opposite the family bathroom, including bath and shower.

It is suitable for six adults and four children, with the children sleeping in the bunk room.

The ground floor comprises the living area, including entry foyer/boot room, utility room, kitchen, lounge, WC/shower room, and rear foyer/exit.

The house is light, spacious and very comfortable with plenty of seating for up to 10 people to socialise and dine. There is a large kitchen with island including breakfast bar for 4 people.

In the second half of May the woods next to Raasay are carpeted in Scottish Bluebells. It is a beautiful sight and smells fantastic on a sunny day.

Impressive double-fronted five-bedroom house with spectacular views, stylishly refurbished while retaining classic features, an ideal base to enjoy the west coast and the Isle of Skye.. The owners have done an exquisite job bringing Coillemore House back to life. It’s been completely renovated and awaits visitors to enjoy its wonderful interiors and extensive gardens, in a truly spectacular situation. The location really cannot be overstated. Coillemore House sits just above the village of Balmacara on National Trust for Scotland land and enjoys views of the sea and the Isle of Skye. Across the tidal waters of Loch Alsh lonely Sgurr na Coinnich stands tall on the island. The house is over 150 years old and is bursting with character. Attractive is one word to describe Coillemore, it’s pleasing on the eye, and the more time you spend at the house the more difficult it is to leave. You have the added benefit of a private, wood-fired hot tub during your stay- please note that this is heated via a stove and so takes longer to warm up than a conventional hot tub. Also beyond Eilean Donan Castle at Dornie is the road to Glenelg, which is well worth a trip for the brilliant Inn, Arnisdale on Loch Hourn, more hillwalking and the jumping off point for wild Knoydart adventures. To the north of Coillemore, following the minor road through National Trust land, often passing the semi-wild Highland cattle that roam the Estate, you’ll reach wonderful Plockton on Loch Carron. - "We ended up booking this spot at the last minute due to our other spot cancelling at the last minute. Because of that there seemed to be confusion and the local manager of the property having been ill. So when we arrived the cottage had not been cleaned from the previous visitors. We worked with Sykes Cottages and after a lot of mis- communication when they said they would call back or email but did not do so, we did finally get to check into our cottage the following day and were reimbursed immediately for the other place we stayed. We loved this cottage- spacious, well-equipped, comfy beds, but most of all the absolutely gorgeous view of Loch Alsh. We could not stop staring at it and taking pictures in all the different light and types of weather. The only draw back was extremely weak WiFi - but we found that to be an issue in many places in this remote area so we survived. We loved our stay in this historic building."

Town: Just ten miles from the main route to the Isle of Skye, the small coastal village of Glenelg lies on the shores of the Sound of Sleat, surrounded by scenery deemed magnificent even by West Highland standards. The glen has preserved its unspoilt beauty and sense of isolation, yet remains within easy reach of the more well-known centres of attraction in the area. Overlooking the Isle of Skye, it is situated on the route once used by drovers from Skye to get their cattle to the mainland, crossing over the narrow Kyle Rhea straits. A couple of miles from the village on the Arnisdale road you will find Sandaig bay, named "Camusfearna" by Gavin Maxwell in his novel Ring of Bright Water, and where there is a cairn for his beloved otter Edal. Glenelg also has the best preserved Pictish Brochs on mainland Scotland. The ruins of Bernera Barracks, an 18th Century garrison for English government troops, still stand next to the village.
