- "Lovely little cottage and a great place to get away from it all. Actually the size it looks in the pictures rather than being smaller like they usually are! One thing to note - no wifi, and poor mobile signal. This is exactly what I wanted, so I was very happy. Small shop in Kiltarlity (5 minute drive) and Coop in Beauly (10 minute drive), but nothing in walking distance (again, exactly what I wanted). The bed is perhaps a bit small, but it is very comfortable. Maybe I should just lose weight... Overall, fantastic cottage in a lovely spot and I'd be very happy to go back. A warm welcome awaits visitors to the two storey Woodland Lodges with seasonal pool, set amongst the natural birch woodland. These timber buildings are tranquil and secluded, simple yet comfortable, with balconies for wildlife watching or to sit with a glass of wine to watch the sunset. Guests can enjoy the shared, seasonal indoor swimming pool open from April to October, the games room with wi fi hotspot and toddler play area.

The open plan interior with french doors leading onto a wooden terrace, comprises family seating, Freeview TV, DVD player, electric stove heating and carpet in the living area. There is wooden laminate flooring in the dining area and kitchen, with a dining table and chairs, plus a kitchen fully equipped with everything you need. To the rear of the lodge is a twin bedroom, directly opposite the compact bathroom, with a shower over the bath, WC, wash hand basin and heated towel rail.

- "Duffs Cottage is excellently situated for visiting all the local attractions of Loch Ness. We loved the small lodge and had lovely log fires in the evenings, although the central heating worked fine, it was very cosy. Lovely comfortable double bed and perfect single room for our daughter. Stables cottage is so well equipped, beautifully furnished and felt so relaxing and calm. We were three adults - a couple with both our elderly mums and we all were sad to leave. We were also sad we didn't get the opportunity to light the burner - the central heating is so efficient and it was early September, so no need for the extra cosiness! It is such good value for money and I thoroughly recommend it. The only thing to improve would be that there are 3 bedrooms and two with ensuite. a cloakroom downstairs is good but one of the bedrooms has to share an ensuite and access through the other bedroom - perhaps a jack n jill door would be better. There is capacity if you lose the cupboard. The web details suggested only 1 bathroom shared by all, so a bit more detail would be good. It was fine for us but would not work for others. However, overall the VFM and comfort overcome this issue. Thanks for a lovely few days."

Rowan Cottage is a cosy, Scandinavian-style chalet nestled in woods on the banks of the pristine River Glass in the majestic Scottish Highlands. The chalet sits in the grounds of Kerrow House, a former fishing lodge of the heads of Clan Chisholm. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty, home to some of the last remnants of the ancient Caledonian pine forests, and host to diverse wildlife, such as deer, pine martens, badgers, owls, red squirrels, ospreys, otters and the recently returned beaver. Easily accessible from Beauly or Loch Ness via Glen Urquhart, this is the ideal getaway from city life.

Rowan Cottage is a year-round home away from home, with a fully equipped kitchen, and warm and cosy bedrooms and dining space, ideal for a small family, couple, or small group of friends. We are only a short distance from Loch Ness and the majestic forests and munroes of Glen Affric. Guests are free to relax on the riverbank or swim in the bracing (!), peaty water of the Glass. Guests are welcome to explore the grounds and riverbank, and they are of course free to use Kerrow as a base for exploring the majestic forests of the neighbouring glens and Loch Ness. This is a walker’s paradise. The more energetic are encouraged to explore the summits and monroes of the nearby Affric hills.
We own nearly 6 kilometres of river bank, and guests are welcome to fish for trout free of charge (fly only). Salmon fishing can also be arranged. The River Glass, one of Scotland's prettiest rivers, invites canoeists for a gentle drift downstream.

Rowan Cottage is situated discreetly in twelve acres of wooded grounds of Kerrow House, constructed in the 18th century by the chief of clan Chisholm a few decades after the battle of Culloden. In the 19th century, Kerrow House was the birthplace of the Golden Retriever breed: it was here the first retriever pups were born in the heart of some of the most beautiful glens in Scotland: Glen Affric, Glen Cannich, and Glen Strathfarrar.

Occasional buses run from the nearby village of Cannich to Inverness, but the truth is that Kerrow is at the end of the glen and that's the way we like it! This is a place to get away from it all and relax. Though the cottage is fully connected with high-speed internet, and with good mobile reception, the only noises you will hear are the running of the river, the wind in the trees (and the occasional splash of a salmon, or hoot of an owl). We are 20 minutes' drive from Drumnadrochit, and 45 minutes from Inverness.

Birchwood Cottage is a cosy, Scandinavian-style chalet nestled in woods on the banks of the pristine River Glass in the majestic Scottish Highlands, in the heart of some of the most beautiful glens in Scotland: Glen Affric, Glen Cannich, and Glen Strathfarrar. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty, home to some of the last remnants of the ancient Caledonian pine forests, and host to diverse wildlife, such as deer, pine martens, badgers, owls, red squirrels, ospreys, otters and the newly returned beaver. Easily accessible from Beauly or Loch Ness via Glen Urquhart, this is the ideal getaway from city life.

Guests are welcome to explore the grounds and riverbank, and they are of course free to use Kerrow as a base for exploring the majestic forests of the neighbouring glens and Loch Ness. This is a walker’s paradise. The more energetic are encouraged to explore the summits and monroes of the nearby Affric hills.
We own nearly 6 kilometres of river bank, and guests are welcome to fish for trout free of charge (fly only). Salmon fishing can also be arranged. The River Glass, one of Scotland's prettiest rivers, invites canoeists for a gentle drift downstream.

Birchwood is situated discreetly in twelve acres of wooded grounds of Kerrow House, formerly a hunting and fishing lodge built by the heads of Clan Chisholm, constructed in the 18th century by the clan chief a few decades after the battle of Culloden.

Transport:

Occasional buses run from the nearby village of Cannich to Inverness, but the truth is that Kerrow is at the end of the glen and that's the way we like it! This is a place to get away from it all and relax. Though the cottage is fully connected with high-speed internet, and with good mobile reception, the only noises you will hear are the running of the river, the wind in the trees (and the occasional splash of a salmon, or hoot of an owl). We are 20 minutes' drive from Drumnadrochit, and 45 minutes from Inverness.

Kerrow and the Golden Dogs

In the 19th century, Kerrow House was the scene of an important chapter in dog history, for it was here that Lord Tweedmouth's keepers bred the dogs that in due course founded the Golden Retriever breed, when Kerrow was part of the nearby Guisachan estate. We know from the kennel records of the estate that the first "golden pups" - ie the first Golden retrievers - were born at the main house at Kerrow. Guests are welcome to bring their dogs, or simple visit the birthplace of the second most popular breed in the world!

Mid-Lodge is a characterful cottage dating back to the mid-19th century. It is picture perfect and has a wonderful location on an old country lane within a copse of mature trees. It also has a fabulous view across barley fields to Beaufort Castle. Upon entering the hallway, straight ahead is the staircase to the first floo, a bedroom is to the right and the spacious, comfortable living room is to the left. The living room enjoys a large log burner taking centre stage, and a good size Smart TV. It is open plan with the kitchen, which is small but sufficient for cooking hearty Highland meals for six people. The spacious master double bedroom is downstairs, and finished to a good standard.

This cottage is so fantastic you will hardly want to leave, but when you inevitably do there are walks all around the estate to enjoy. A little further afield is the popular village of Beauly, which has a good array of shops, cafés and restaurants to fuel your adventures in the local area. The cosmopolitan city of Inverness is only half an hour’s drive with its castle and St Andrew’s Cathedral. Just a little further east you can explore Culloden, Cawdor and Nairn, or even the Cairngorms National Park which is only a 45-minute drive south. The Moray Firth has a resident pod of bottle nose dolphins which you will have a great chance of seeing from the shore. Walking the beaches along the Moray Firth is a great way to see this part of Scotland and the local wildlife. The North Coast 500 is nearby, so you can follow this scenic route up the east coast to see gems such as the River Helmsdale and Duncansby Head.
