- "Had a wonderful stay at the Shangri-La Mountain Retreat! Not a stretch to say one of the best stocked rental homes ever I've ever booked. We stayed two nights with three families including kids ranging from 2-12 years old. Everything you could ask for was available for cooking in the kitchen with more than enough glasses and tableware in excellent condition. There is a high quality gas range which was wonderful if you like to make meal. The hosts had just installed a new grill which we used to woodfire cook marinated flank steak one night. The firepit was also a hit for making s'mores with the kiddos, but not as much as the game room (detached garage) with wall-mounted arcade... the older kids spent a lot of time there and in the bunk room with enough beds for all the kids. The house is also super close to Burnt Rancheria Campground and access to the Pacific Coast Trail if you want to do some hiking. We sure did. The beds were extremely comfy, linens were clean, bathrooms and house were pleasantly decorated. No issues at all and the hosts were very responsive before, during, and after our stay. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a trip to the Mt. Laguna area! "

This charming log cabin is nestled among native Pine and Oak trees and is located at the foot of the Laguna Mountains, surrounded by the Cleveland National Forest and United States Forest Service (USFS) land. The location of this home provides the solitude you'd hope for in a forest cabin with good proximity to the little country town of Pine Valley which has a beautiful county park with 2 newly refurbished playgrounds, a baseball field, basketball court and tennis court. The town also offers a library, market, antique store and a few restaurants. If you would like to see more antiques all you need to do is travel over to the nearby town of Descanso to the popular Descanso Mercantile and Ivy Gate Cottage. There is plenty of unspoiled wilderness in nearby Noble Canyon with access to an abundance of trails which are popular for horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking, varying from an easy stroll to day long adventures for even the most avid thrill seeker.

There is something close by for everyone in Pine Valley. If you like to fish, then bring your fishing pole as Lake Morena and Lake Cuyamaca are just a short drive away. Or take an even shorter drive up to the Laguna Mountains which will put you at an elevation of 6,000 feet. In the winter this is a great place for sledding. Should you desire to venture a little further, you may like to explore the quaint old gold mining town of Julian with its many shops, restaurants and famous apple pie! The nice thing about San Diego County is one day you can have an excursion in the mountains and the next day you can be at the beach. The very beautiful La Jolla Shores and the world famous Sea World are less than an hour away. Oh and don't forget the San Diego Zoo or Safari Park, which are all adventures close enough to do in a day's time.

Should you prefer to just relax at home you can do so under an umbrella of oak trees with only the sound of native birds and the breeze rustling through the trees on the large deck with outdoor firepit. This cozy rustic cabin sits on a 1/2 acre with a beautifully landscaped setting surrounded by 3 undeveloped properties and is one of the more private locations in Pine Valley. Spring and Summer offer sunny days with cool nights. In the winter months, there is always the chance of snow and the enjoyment of hot chocolate by the fireplace. This cabin is located on a quiet, dirt road with very limited traffic and interruptions - a true escape from the daily grind! Wildlife such as raccoons, deer and turkeys call this beautiful valley home, a birdwatchers dream for sure.

This multi-level cabin rental can accomodate up to six guests and has 3 bedrooms. Downstairs is one bedroom with a queen bed and flat screen TV. Upstairs are 2 bedrooms, one has a double bed while the other has a futon with a memory foam mattress topper for extra comfort. There is one full bathroom downstairs and a half bath upstairs. Linens, towels and extra blankets are all provided. Each room is also provided with its own electric heater. The fully equipped kitchen has a refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster and all necessary tableware and cookware. If you choose to barbecue, you can step onto the large back deck and use the charcoal and grill that are provided. There is a beautiful sunroom located off the back of the house with large windows looking out into the lush backyard. Other amenities include a washer and dryer, 2 flatscreen TV's with cable TV, wifi internet service as well as clear cell phone reception. Step back in time with the 2 heat sources of this home, a fireplace and wood stove (all wood provided). On extra cold nights the wood stove will warm the entire house.

A book will be provided at the house showing the many things to do in the area as well as instructions and tips for easily starting your own fire in case you are not one that has not had much experience in doing this before.

Escape to "The Cabin" and enjoy time with your family or friends and be as active or relaxed as you please. Play catch with the kids on the lawn or sip a cold drink on the deck, all surrounded by the sights and sounds of the countryside. Board games, outdoor games, and boogie boards are some of the extra things provided for your enjoyment.

- "This log cabin was beautiful and I’d stay here again. It was so peaceful. I walked down the road and went for a short hike into the mountains and saw a lot of wild flowers. The upstairs bedroom on the right and the ground level bedroom need the ceiling fans repaired. There are no separate chains for the fans and it gets warm in there during the day. Either the door locks or the keys should be replaced, they’re a little difficult. Other than those two things, everything was perfect. Much thanks to Michele and Flip for sharing your cabin."

Welcome to the High Country Hobo Preserve. Our hidden gem is nestled in the Cleveland National Forrest. Guest cabin has all amenities: wood burning fireplace -wood provided, board games, fishing poles, tent, horse shoes, bbq, and gold pans for when the creek is flowing. An outdoor fire pit is available when winds are calm and you are welcome to put our tent up and sleep under the stars. Our cabin has old character, unique charm, and is 22 miles to the old mining town of Julian. Kitchen has fridge, hot plate, griddle, microwave, coffee maker- coffee tea cocoa are provided. Please note there is no stove or oven. Pets are welcome & encouraged!

The High Country Hobo Preserve is located in the small city of Descanso, meaning Rest From Labor. We are about 45 minutes from Downtown San Diego yet a world away. The guest cabin sits on our 1 acre property which has a main cabin, guest cabin, horse corral, and billiard room (we are in the process of restoring this room however you can still use it to play darts or billiards). The cabin built in 1890 was originally a small one bedroom stone cabin constructed by a woman who bartered with Native American Groups for stones from Mt. Laguna to build her home. Over the years the main cabin, now our bedroom, has been added on to however the structure still maintains its original character. The Guest Cabin stands alone across from our home so you don't need to see us or even interact with us unless you're looking for local tips. The cabin is surrounded by National Forrest to the north and the west to give you privacy. There is plenty of parking on the property. We ask that you limit shower time due to well water restrictions. Our cabin does not have central heat and air as we prefer to keep it outdated for a more authentic feel however during the summer a window A/C can keep you cool and in the winter the wood burning stove heats the whole cabin comfortably. The area has mountain lion, coyote, bobcat, bald eagles, wild turkey, deer, and when warm rattle snakes so please use caution when exploring. You can access trails from our backyard and wonder among the variety of trees, rocks, and it is an excellent location to search for native gems and for star gazing at night. Fishing poles are left for your use, Lake Cuyamaca has great rainbow trout, bass, and catfish and if you get lucky and land that giant trout you are welcome to use our bbq. :)

As our home sits on this property we are not far from you if you need anything however a key will be left for you to gain entrance. You have full use of the land around the cabin. Perkins is a small market about 10 minutes from our home and has supermarket basics in addition there is a fruit stand on the corner of our street offering local organic treats. There is a full fridge to keep items cool. There is a TV with built in DVD player, bring your movies or pick from ours. There iare no active TV stations or cable as we want you to disconnect and enjoy the area, there is wifi.

A bit more about the area:
The Cuyamaca Mountains are a hidden gem in San Diego so I hope you enjoy it here. A few things I tell our visitors that are looking for activities are: Cuyamaca State Park has many activities from hiking, fishing, horse riding. Julian which is an old mining town is about 20 miles away and has shops food gold panning, and Mount Laguna/ Pine Valley are also close with amazing hikes and views down to the Salton Sea. Anzo Borrego Desert is about 35 minutes from the house, hot but stunning views of desert life. There is a bear/lion preserve in the Cuyamacas. About 45 minutes away- beautiful drive through the mountains is a little town called Ramona, there is a camel preserve there- you can ride the camels and its amazing. You can also set out for a hike/picnic from our property and explore on your own. If you want to check in earlier or perhaps stay later on your check out date we are very flexible, it just depends if others have booked. Please let me know should you have any questions. :)

This home has 4 private rooms with their own in-suite bathrooms , billiards room, chef style kitchen, wet bar, and massive windows through out home to bring in the natural light in. The lake lends itself for a day of fishing or kayaking. Enjoy the evening winding down with a glass of wine in your own private deck overlooking the lake.
