The common room with the fireplace was so cozy. When I was there the embers were dying and I asked one of the ladies to put another log on. She said that the soapstone fireplace would get too hot so she said no which was fine but as I was sitting in front of the embers one of the men who worked there put in another log and the same lady walked in. I think she thought I asked the guy to put another log in after she told me no but I didn't! So if she reads this I swear I didn't pull a "mom said no so I'll ask dad." Nevertheless I can't wait to stay in Hotel Edelweiss again!"

Chalet Candamo is a luxurious 5-bedroom chalet in the centre of Mürren, a traffic-free village; refurbished in 2010 to offer spacious and luxurious accommodation for 10 people, stylishly decorated and furnished, and intelligently designed for practical convenience and comfort.

The top floor of the chalet is given over to a splendid living space open to the eaves in the dining/living area where two sets of French windows open on to a balcony facing one of the most famous views in the Swiss Alps: the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau Mountains. The heavy oak dining table seats 10 with elbow room and 3 comfortable sofas are grouped around the glassed in wood-burning fire.

For the summer there is a secure garden with a BBQ and outdoor furniture so that you can relax and enjoy the amazing views.

Guests will notice many personal and homely touches in the chalet and those with an interest in skiing history will notice many decorative details

Chalet Layout:

The ground floor has a front door which leads into a front hall with coat hooks and shoe racks.

There are two large bedrooms, with twinbeds that join as one if needed and plenty of wardrobe space; one bathroom with individual shower and bath, a laundry room, and a boot room with boot heaters and a ski rack with an outside door opening almost onto the piste.

The first floor comprises two large bedroom with superking beds, ample wardrobe space and balcony; one double bedroom again with a large wardrobe; one bath/shower room, one shower room/WC and one WC.

The top floor, the main living area, is open to the eaves, a south facing mainly glass aspect with a large balcony. It also has a shower room/WC, a semi open plan kitchen and a television room with a sofa bed and chest of draws which could double as a cooks bedroom if needed.

The kitchen is better stocked with dishes, silverware and pots and pans than any I've experienced. We never were wanting in spite of cooking in for dinner.....rosti, sausages and fondue... every night. My only disappointment is that it is too big (and expensive) for just my wife and I to rent when we return.....and we will return. As my daughter just told me: "I'm ready to go back today". By the way, for the first time we did paragliding which should not be missed. We enjoyed it so much, we all did it a second time. Thank you, Edwina, for letting us rent your wonderful home!"

Located amidst some of the world's most spectacular scenery, Mürren is a charming little village that has managed to escape over-development despite being famous in the history of winter sports since the very start of downhill skiing. Located at one end of the legendary Jungfrau region, on the same lift pass as Wengen and Grindelwald although not linked to them by ski piste (you can however get across by a wonderful, century-old mountain railway).
Among its many claims to fame, early mention must be made of the revolving restaurant perched on top of the Schilthorn mountain, also known as `Piz Gloria` (2970m / 9750ft) with incredible views all around. The panorama from here includes Mont Blanc on the French - Italian border, the German Black Forest as well as the local peaks of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Mürren is a car-free village, like Wengen, any drivers must park their cars in one of the large valley car parks below and take the cable cars up to the resort.

The free standing Chalet has three floors where the top floor is dedicated to stylish open plan living. Comfortably seating 12 around a large french style wooden table and state of the art kitchen. Double height ceilings with many windows and surrounded by balconies all facing the spectacular Jungfrau massive and the legendary north wall of the Eiger.

Chalet Layout:
The main entrance is located on the first floor which has a separate ski room for all ski equipment.
On entering Chalet Sofia you have a large boot room with many hooks for coats and a ski boot warmer for 16 pairs of ski boots.
On the first floor there is also a laundry room and the wellness spa which has a spacious Swedish sauna/steam room and a large covered Jacuzzi outside overlooking the most famous views in the Swiss Alps: Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains. This is the perfect place to relax after-skiing while listening to your favourite music. There is also a separate shower and w/c.
The winding broad stair case that runs through the whole chalet then leads onto the second floor where 4 spacious bedrooms are located.

The stairs then lead to the 3rd floor of Chalet Sofia and the most spectacular open plan living with vaulted ceilings and a state of the art kitchen. A large french style dining table that comfortably seats 12 while listening to the Bose surround sound music system. There are cosy sofas in-front of the large stone open fire place. The whole 3rd floor is surrounded by balconies where you can seat 12 for lunch or have a cosy kitchen breakfast while being surrounded by the tranquil mountains.
The master bedroom is on the 3rd floor that has a king size bed and a working cosy fireplace with double doors opening onto your private terrace with comfy chairs to sit and have your morning coffee in the sunshine while listening to the singing birds.
Bedroom 5 has its own en-suite bathroom with delux shower and w/c.

Murren is a cosy mountain village situated at 1650m at the foot of the ski mountain Schilthorn 2970m on a ridge of a 800m cliff drop above the Lauterbrunnen valley right across of the impressive Jungfrau massive. As you would expect in the mountains, there are fablous and extensive hikes to discover, from all day hikes to shorter excursions.There are many mountain bike trails to explore and for the more adventures there is a spectacular Via Ferrata. Great conditions to do Tandem Paragliding down into the beautiful Lauterbrunnen valley, there truly is something for everyone. Many of the great mountain restaurants are also open during the summer months. The Sports centre in the village is open all year around with a swimming pool, gym and Spa. In the winter they also keep an ice rink for skating, ice hockey and curling. In the summer that turns into a football field with synthetic grass.
The Lauterbrunnen valley with its steep sides and many waterfalls ( 72 to be exact) has been the inspiration for the author J.R.R Tolkien and his Middle Earth's Rivendell in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
The beauty of this area in the summer can not be described, it has to be experienced but I leave you a quote from J.J.R. - "9 family members from the United States spent 5 nights in Chalet Sofia. The owner Sarah-Jane was very helpful and accommodating throughout the entire process. The Chalet is wonderful and the views from the entire home are breathtaking and beautiful. The property manager met us at the train station and helped us transport all the luggage up the hill to the Chalet and stayed to ensure everything worked properly and that we had everything we needed. He called us several times throughout the week to see if we had any questions or concerns. The chalet was a wonderful base for our daily adventures and it provided an amazing backdrop for the wedding pictures for our daughter and son-in-laws vow renewal.
