About our cottage: With Eastville Point Beach less than a mile away, this comfortable and charming single-family cottage is ideally situated for easy access to everything the magical island of Martha's Vineyard has to offer. The bike path and bus route are about 100 ft from the front door, and the cottage is conveniently located almost exactly midway between the bustling down-island town centers of Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. Bring your own bikes and kayaks or rent them from nearby outfitters in Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs.

An interesting tidbit about our cottage is that it was owned by the author bell hooks for many years, and was where she stayed when visiting Martha’s Vineyard. Some of her furnishings remain as part of the cottage’s decor today.

The cottage's amenities, furnishings and decor are selected for comfort and easy vacation living any time of the year. Fully insulated, the cottage is equipped with window ACs in living areas and both bedrooms to keep the whole house cool in summer, and multi-zoned thermostat-controlled baseboard electric heat to keep you cozy warm in cooler months. The home offers one-floor living with 2 private bedrooms, each with its own closet, a full bath off the hallway with tub/shower combo, open concept kitchen, dining, and living spaces, a spacious front deck, and a fully enclosed 3-season back porch. With an additional "outdoor" shower, outdoor grill, well appointed kitchen, reliable WiFi, and washer/dryer, there is everything you need for a wonderful Vineyard getaway or working vacation. Kitchen, living, and dining areas may be closed off from bedrooms offering enhanced privacy for "early-to-bedders" or "late risers." Two bedrooms, one with a queen, the other with two twin beds, comfortably accommodate 4. The 3-season back porch has garden-style furnishings, a ceiling fan, and table seating, and is the perfect spot to enjoy a game of cards or a cup of tea and a good book with a view of the wooded rear yard.

Having a car will offer the most flexibility for getting around the island, and is recommended. The cottage is just a short drive to the town centers and ferry terminals of Oak Bluffs (1.6 miles) and Vineyard Haven (2.0 miles). Nearby Eastville Point Beach is 0.9 miles from the cottage. There is ample off-street parking on the property for 1-2 vehicles. Also, the bike path and VTA bus route are close by, and offer alternate transportation options if you choose not to bring a car. It should be noted that while the bike path enhances safety for cyclists and walkers where present, it is not continuous everywhere. Cyclists and walkers should be prepared to navigate the roadways at times. VTA buses have bike racks for bringing bikes to especially rideable spots on-island. Off-road motorized vehicles such as dirt bikes, quads or ATVs are not allowed on the property.

The nearest full-size grocery stores are located in Vineyard Haven (Stop & Shop on Water St.) and Oak Bluffs (Reliable Market on Circuit Ave.). Tony's Market in Oak Bluffs, Our Market in Oak Bluffs, and Cumberland Farms in Vineyard Haven offer essentials and a limited grocery selection. Vineyard Grocer and Cronigs Markets on State Rd. in Tisbury and West Tisbury offer upscale and specialty grocery options.

A note about fees and taxes: For their services, Vrbo charges us, as hosts, a fixed fee plus a percentage of our listed rates and fees for each booking, and they charge you, the guest, a percentage of these rates and fees too. Taxes are also collected from you by Vrbo. For our location, the total lodging tax you will pay is an additional 11.7% of your total charges. If you use the washer and dryer for your own personal laundry needs, we ask that you clean out the lint trap in the dryer after each load as a standard safety practice. We do ask you to keep the house reasonably tidy during your stay, and for security and safety reasons, we ask you to close and latch/lock all windows and doors, and turn off the lights, tv, and appliances when departing. We are more than happy to make reasonable accommodations for guests who are unable to, or prefer not to, complete any of these requested tasks - please feel free to discuss this with us.

- "The place was as it was described. Bright, sunny, clean. Small but perfect for our family of four. Loved the enclosed porch. Used the grill quite a bit. Truly enjoyed the location as well right off the walking/bike path. Special touch that we were not expecting was the dog bowls for beloved pet. Will totally rent here again. The only thing I think people should be aware of is that there is no dishwasher. That actually wasn’t a problem for us. There were four of us, and we just washed the dishes as we along. Oak Bluffs is our favorite town for families visiting the Island - offering some of the best restaurants, ice cream parlors, fun shopping, the historical gingerbread cottages and the famous Flying Horses carousel! The harbor is a great place for a stroll to look at the amazing collection of boats from the Pirate ship to private yachts, and don't miss beautiful Ocean Park with the iconic gazebo which sponsors live musical events. There are many choices for beaches from Inkwell to Eastville. Oak Bluffs hosts many beloved Island events; Illumination Night, Fireworks, Built on Stilts, Harbor Festival, and Tivoli Day. Rain or shine there's plenty to do when you visit Oak Bluffs.

Newly refurbished Cottage City Victorian beach house, built in 1870. Walk to beach, walk to town. 2 bedrooms up a narrow flight of stairs, one with a Queen size bed and one with a single (twin XL). 15 minute walk to Jetty beach or Inkwell beach. 10 minute walk to town, the harbor and the campground. Spacious yard in a very quiet neighborhood. Next door to the library.

Regardless of recent updates this is a small cottage from the 19th century and also our home. It was moved from the campground to its current location at the turn of the 20th century. We have tried to retain the unique and historic gingerbread cottage feel of the property. If you are looking for something modern and posh it may not be for you.

There are parking spaces for 2 cars, a small front porch and a deck in back with table and chairs for outdoor dining. There is a gas grill and a spacious front, back and side yards. There is a private outdoor shower. Indoor bathroom has a stand up shower. Gas stove, dishwasher and washer and dryer in the kitchen. There is a dining area, TV, internet and a collection of DVD's. We do not have cable TV. Towels and linens are provided.

The cottage comfortably sleeps four people; two couples or a family of four. There is one parking space available to you next to the cottage on the property. House Story:

I fell in love with this house the minute I saw it. It took me a full winter to be able to be able to call it my own, because when I made the offer the owner was concerned about disappointing someone else, though they had was no contract at all. She was so kind, she spent a few months trying to find this person, who was out of the country and difficult to track down. In the meantime, she knew how much I loved the house, and after several long months she called to say it was mine if I still wanted it, and I could take a few days to let her know. I told her I didn’t even need a few minutes. No other house that I had seen captured my heart as this one had.

It took great amounts of work to prep this house to be my massage center, as it would be for some years before I could make it my home. One day, at my other massage center in Vineyard Haven, I interviewed a lovely massage therapist from Louisiana. I had no idea she had MV ties, but I instantly adored her and her work and hired her on the spot and sent her here to do a massage. Twenty minutes passed, and the phone rang. “You are not going to believe this, Sharon, but this is the house my grandmother grew up in.”

Oma (grandmother in German), came right over the next day from West Tisbury, where she then summered, brought me this photo of her parents and this house as it was in 1908, and gave me a tour of the house, telling me where all the original details used to be. Oma was beautiful, and her granddaughter is beautiful, as was the previous owner. I just kept feeling that it was no wonder that it feels so special in here. Since that time, my friends, family and guests have only added to that feeling. Time and time again, people walk in and comment on the energy of the home. I feel it deeply myself.

To top off all of this wonder, the last bit of amazement for me was the dog in the photo - a dog with a half black and half white face, split down the middle. On the other side of the couch, you can see the photo of my dog, Haffa, at the time. A dog with a half black and half white face, split down the middle, almost 100 years later.

This lovely, in-town, first-floor apartment is in a renovated 1800's historic Oak Bluffs cottage with a fenced in landscaped patio. The beautiful stone patio out the kitchen door has plenty of seating, an outdoor shower, 2-person hot tub (please let us know if you think you will use it), propane bbq grill, and an outdoor designer Rais fireplace. The large and sunlit gourmet kitchen has skylights and is the heart of the home.

This apartment accommodates up to 4 guests, with one very petite queen bedroom and a large living room that can be entirely closed off as a separate room, with a queen Crate and Barrel sofa bed. The room can be closed off from the rest of the apartment for privacy with glass french windows and doors and curtains, and can have a separate entrance as well. The very large country kitchen with every amenity you could hope for.

There is one full bath (with tub/shower) in the apartment, and one additional shower outside, that I have heard is many guests favorite part of their stay! Outdoor showers are a wonderful Martha's Vineyard tradition.

Most guests find this home to be a generally quiet oasis for being right in the center of town, but just a reminder that the house IS in the center of town, just not on the main shopping drag. ;)

Enjoy a tour around the island by way of public transportation (the bus stop), or taxi.

Steps away from your back patio immerse yourself in the beautiful ocean view, which includes a park and gazebo where you can witness people getting married and feel their joy of beginning their lives as one. Not bringing a car concerned us a bit, but we were pleasantly surprised with a convenience store that had everything just down the road. Our bike ride in town was less than a mile, and the bus system on the island was amazing making stops everywhere to explore, fish; and dine. Great Vineyard location on Vineyard Avenue in Oak Bluffs. Built in 1920 and thoughtfully restored in 1999, this house is clean, neat and conveniently located a few hundred feet from the the Oak Bluffs Arts District. Within walking distance through the Campground (gingerbread cottages) to shops, restaurants, Flying Horses and the Oak Bluffs waterfront. Just a fifteen minute walk to East Chop, Inkwell and Pay beaches, and the Oak Bluffs ferry terminal. The house features a bright, fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar, separate dining room, living room and enclosed sun porch. The large first floor bathroom features a claw-foot bathtub and provides direct access to the private outdoor shower. Upstairs is another large, full bathroom, plus two bedrooms. Enjoy the outdoors on the covered farmers porch overlooking the herb garden in front or the deck in back. Not included in the rental is a small guest cottage on the rear of the property which is sometimes occupied by the owner.

- "Our Oak Bluffs vacation was perfect in every way. Scott's instructions were clear and he was always available to answer our questions. I can not say enough about the cleanliness of the home. For the first time, ever, I did not feel the need to take out my cleaning supplies to re-clean to my satisfaction/comfort. The home was so much better than the pics. It was larger, than depicted, nicely decorated and had everything that we needed. We especially enjoyed the comfortable beds, large bathrooms, deck and the outdoor shower!! The location of the home was second-to-none. We were able to walk to all of the major OB attractions, including the beach, shopping and restaurants. In addition, Edgartown and Vineyard Haven were a short drive away. Scott's thoughtfulness was very much appreciated. He generously extended our check-out time when he learned that we had a late departure time (ferry).
