Gardeners Cottage has undergone a full refurbishment in 2022 and is now under new ownership. No expense has been spared throughout to make this an immaculate sanctuary for your time away. The refurbishment also includes the addition of a new boiler to provide plenty of heating and hot water for the chillier times of year.

The cottage itself has a lovely sitting area with a great flat screen TV for those cosy nights in. Leading off the lounge there is a great kitchen which is well equipped for your stay. It has a lovely dining table by the french windows, which lead out to a small patio where you can enjoy early morning coffee or pre dinner drinks, or just to sit and enjoy the peace!

There is also a downstairs cloakroom next to the stairs which lead to the first floor. Here there are two lovely double bedrooms, both with en suite bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a bath and shower over the bath. Both are lovely rooms with comfortable double beds, great for a comfortable nights sleep.

Set within the stunning grounds of the Saltmoore Estate with some fantastic walks within the grounds and Sandsend beach is just a 15 minute walk away this is a great base to enjoy the lovely East Coast.

Our granddaughter loved the beach, its rockpools, flat sand (for safe bathing) and following the stream inland. We also enjoyed Runswick beach a little further up the coast. We hope to go there again!"

Upstairs, our property features 1 double bedroom with king size bed and fitted wardrobes, one twin bedded Room, and one room with a set of bunks. The Bathroom features a large bath with shower over and monsoon head, all fed by a large pressurised hot water tank , with lots of hot water for showering the whole family when you come off the beach!

Downstairs is a separate living room with 42" TV and DVD player with a selection of DVD's. We also have a large living kitchen with modern units, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washer dryer, large dining table and sofa in bay window. The kitchen is fully equipped. WIFI is available throughout the property.

The flat is accessed via a shared hall way then up one flight of stairs only servicing our flat. At the top is a landing with plenty of room for coats, boots, shoes etc before you go through the main flat entrance door. Please note there is no pushchairs storage downstairs in the communal hall so flat is best suited to children school age and above.

We are approx. 100metres from the beach so nice and handy.

Sandsend is a pretty North Yorkshire fishing village with a few pubs, restaurant and a shop. Ideal for family beach holidays or romantic holidays relaxing and walking!

Guests have access to the full property. The property is accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date.

There is plenty of private on-site parking available to guests staying at The Lakehouse. Please note that redevelopment works are currently being carried out at Raithwaite Hall. The Lakehouse is some way from the hotel so your visit will not be effected by the development, however you will need to drive along the estate road to get to the Lakehouse, which will take you through the development site. Whilst the road through the estate is sometimes dirty and there are some obvious signs of the redevelopment taking place at the hotel, once you pass through the gates to the Lakehouse, you will still have your own peaceful & private retreat.

Please note there is a high retaining wall at the side of the property so we ask children to be closely watched at all times when in the outdoor area.

The Neighborhood:
The Lakehouse situated on the Raithwaite Estate, Sandsend, located a just a 10-minute drive from the centre of Whitby so you’ll be within short distance of all that the town has to offer. You’ll find cosy cafes, restaurants and shops lining the historic streets in the town.

On Pier Road, you’ll find fun arcades and plenty of fish restaurants where you can sample the catch of the day.

The other side of Whitby is full of narrow, mediaeval streets dotted with boutiques and pubs. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.

Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park so it’s the perfect place for long walks.

Whitby train station is just a short 15-minute drive away so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.

There are plenty of bus routes throughout Whitby. Hop on the X4 and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. The 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.

On entering you have an open-plan living space, with the living area in the bay window with seating; on a stormy day you can watch the waves crashing over the sea walls. The kitchen is modern with a granite topped island doubling as a dining table, where you can enjoy freshly prepared home cooked meals whilst planning the events for the day ahead. At the rear of the property you have an enclosed yard, so that you can enjoy al fresco dining if you wish. Upstairs on the first floor there are a twin bedroom, where the beds can be made up as a kingsize on request, and one double bedroom. There is also the family bathroom with both a bath and a shower cubicle. Up on the second floor you have a double bedroom which boasts incredible views as well as a single bedroom under the eaves.

The location is fabulous, Sandsend is a gorgeous little coastal village and at low tide you have a vast expanse of soft sand, whilst at high tide on stormy days the waves are spectacular. In the village there are some wonderful cafés, a small local shop and a friendly local pub as well as a popular restaurant. A seafood restaurant is just around the corner with gardens adorned with strings of lights, where you can enjoy your fish and chips out in the fresh sea air. There is a surf school nearby where you can join the many surfers, paddle boards or kayakers, or simply relax and take in the wonderful scenery.

Following the coastline you have the Cleveland Way walking trail, leading up north towards Runswick Bay, Staithes and Saltburn, or to the south you have Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay, Ravenscar and Scarborough, all of which are ideal for days out and have their own character and charm. You are surrounded by the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, you can explore on foot, by car or even by steam train. The heritage railway runs from Whitby to Pickering and stops at some beautiful villages along the way, you may recognise Goathland from the TV series ’Heartbeat’ or from Harry Potter as the location was used as Hogsmeade. - "This house really suits my family. It's the third time we have stayed here! Enough space for people to find some peace if they want it and a lovely dining space for family meals and activities. The location is excellent, wetsuits on and cross the rd and you are in the sea, or pack up the Kubb (excellent beach game) and draw a court on the beach for an evening match! In previous years we have seen whales, dophins and seals from the beach. Nothing this year but the bay window is great for beach watching. Hopefully we'll be back next year!"

Town: Lying on Yorkshire's spectacular Heritage Coastline, Sandsend is the ideal place for a family holiday with its award winning, wide sweeping beaches, rock pools and dramatic cliffs. Indeed this part of the coastline is known locally as the Dinosaur Coast because of the many fossils found here. In the season, beachside stalls offer everything from light snacks and drinks to boats, buckets and spades! Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon - great (and safe) for paddling and boating! For the more energetic the village sits on the lovely long distance Cleveland Way Trail, which offers great off-road cycling along the disused coastal railway as well as breathtaking clifftop walks. The National Trust now own the nearby headland, Sandsend Ness, where there is a delightful nature trail in the old quarry pits. A special place with something for everyone!

- "So we needed a break and Sandsend was high on the list, we found that Shore View was vacant, so booked it. The views from the master bedroom are amazing. The house is in a great location with parking for one car. The kitchen has been set out like a lounge kitchen with a TV, then the lounge is on the first floor, unfortunately the sofa and chairs are so uncomfortable, no support for your neck on the sofa, this room has sliding doors to decking with table and chairs, this only gets the sun in the morning and we were disappointed by a can of cigarette ends, the master bedroom is up on the second floor, lovely spacious room. No chest of drawers and the wardrobe was full of spare pillows and duvet and I guess a travel cot. Generally the house was clean however when I dropped something on the floor under the bed was not, and when we stripped the bedding no mattress protector which I thought would be washed after every use. Would we stay again, for the location and parking yes, however we would see what else was available. "

For the more energetic the village sits on the lovely long distance Cleveland Way Trail, which offers great off-road cycling along the disused coastal railway as well as breathtaking clifftop walks. The National Trust now own the nearby headland, Sandsend Ness, where there is a delightful nature trail in the old quarry pits. A special place offering something for everyone!
