I recommend this place." - "there is no reception, the door to what looks like a pub was locked and the rear door off the car park also, with a number to ring for entry. The number was 'not recognised'. We knocked on the door and were told the correct number was written on a business card Sellotaped to the door. Checked in at a table and shown to our room and told dining room was only serving pizza - these were made in a pizza oven in the car park. We declined, and breakfast also, and drove to another hotel. There is a bar area with a few seats occupied by one person watching a massive TV. The room was clean but the carpets were filthy - hair, fluff, dried grass, a toe nail. In the morning there was no one to check us out and all the external doors were locked including the fire escape door! We were trapped inside with another couple until a cleaner came and let us out. No escape door should ever be locked when a building is occupied. For this reason alone I would not recommend staying"

- "My husband and I stayed at Valentino’s on 15th November 2023.As I was on my own during the day the staff at Valentinos took excellent care of me I checked in early was served the best mushrooms and toast with coffee.After a walk around Ripon and all it’s independent shops I returned had a pot of tea and a relax. Room was gorgeous; walk in shower invited a long stay. Evening spent in restaurant was really great, staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble, food was excellent.The breakfast the following day was superb. On the fringes of this ancient but compact city is a small hamlet absorbed into the city suburbs with adjacent meadows and woodland reaching out to the River Laver. The immediate area has been recognised as a Conservation Area since 1994 and forms an exceptional architectural enclave in character and form. Tucked quietly behind Bishopton Cottage is The Hay Loft, a modern but cosy conversion of an original barn dating back to 1635. A striking little cottage cloaked with privacy but so near to the City, the wonderful Dales and Vales and only a scenic walk away from the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Studley Royal Park and Fountains Abbey. Access to the cottage is along a private road to a small courtyard with ample space for parking. Entry is from the courtyard to a compact kitchen with laminate floor, sparkling Victorian tiles and everything needed to prepare that special meal for two. The kitchen is open to the adjacent lounge with flagged hearth, wood-burning stove and intimate dining area. French windows open from the lounge to a private walled patio which is the perfect place to enjoy the late morning and afternoon sunshine. A stairway rises from the corner of the lounge to a king-size bedroom and en-suite shower room with washbasin and toilet. Both the bedroom and shower room rise to the rafters and have skylights though the bedroom also has an occluded window.
