- "We didn’t stay because there were 20 stone steps up to the apartment with open railings at the side and landing which we felt was unsafe for us and our dog. Also the fenced in area at ground level was gravel with lots of doors off and nooks and crannies where a dog might go in and be difficult to find The owner said when I emailed the next day said that they would have blocked off the railings if we had asked but we felt that going up and down these stone steps to take the dog out would have been easy to loose your footing. - "The apartment is in a perfect condition. Everything is very clean and makes a neat impression. The fittings and furnishings are modern but also very comfortable. In the fridge there was some milk, there were tea bags and coffee pods so that one could settle in smoothly. The wi-fi is absolutely reliable, and there is a TV in the living room. There is parking space, too. Altogether the location is quiet and yet so close to the centre of Ripon that one can walk there easily. I felt very much at ease and can surely imagine to stay there again. The only real problem that occurred during my stay has to do with the front door. On my arrival something was stuck in the locking system, so the door wouldn't open even though the PIN was accepted and there was message that the door was unlocked. Another resident turned up, and initially he had the same problem, but then he knew some tricks which I wouldn't have known. From then on the locking system worked. However, on the evening before my departure, I couldn't get in again - this time because the code had been changed. Luckily a resident let me in, and in the flat I found the phone number of the owner of the apartment in the information folder and rang her up. She found out about the new code and sent it to me. Maybe it would be helpful, if one could get the owner's number straight away, perhaps in the email with the access details that is sent 48 hours before arrival. In many cases, I presume, the owner knows best about these technical issues. Apart from that, problems such as these seem to have a tendency to come up outside the regular office hours of Finest Retreats. One last point has to do with the TV in the bedroom. It can only be used with netflix or a similar app, one cannot watch ordinary TV programmes. Cobblestone Cottage sits on the edge of Bishopton, a small hamlet absorbed into Ripon's city suburbs with adjacent meadows and woodland reaching out to the River Laver. The immediate area has been recognised as a Conservation Area since 1994 and forms an exceptional architectural enclave in character and form. This pretty cottage is a modern but cosy renovation of an original cottage dating back to 1635, located near to the city, the wonderful Yorkshire Dales and Nidderdale and just a scenic walk away from the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Studley Royal Park and Fountains Abbey.

The parking area to the side of the cottage leads to a private walled patio garden and access to the cottage. Entry from here is into a spacious kitchen with breakfast bar, sparkling Victorian tiles and everything you need to prepare a delicious meal. French doors to the left of the kitchen lead to the living area at the front of the cottage. The lounge area with oak furniture and comfy arm chair and settee has a fireplace with wood-burning stove, making it a cosy place to sit during the cooler months. Welcome to Morton House a True Yorkshire Retreat in Masham...

Morton House is a grade II listed stone farmhouse just off the market square in the picturesque market town of Masham. The accommodation is within easy walking distance of all amenities, pubs, shops and of course Masham’s famous breweries – The Black Sheep and Theakstons.

Morton House has been totally renovated retaining much of the charm and features you would expect including exposed beams, open fireplace, fantastic loft master suite and farmhouse style kitchen/diner. The rear (shared) garden is fully fenced, private and sunny (when the sun shines!) There is parking at the door on the street. The house is centrally heated throughout and available all year.

The property has 4brms - the very large master suite in the loft with a king size bed and additional single day bed has an ensuite bathroom. On the first floor at the front of the property there is a superking 'Gold' bedroom and a double bedroom which share the house bathroom. At the rear on this level is the twin bedroom with an ensuite shower room. All bedrooms have comfy mattresses and cosy cotton bed linens and pillows/duvet (no feather pillows).

On the ground floor there are two sitting rooms to the front of the property - the more formal 'Green' room with Chesterfield sofas and open fire place, and the cosy TV room with wood burning stove and comfy sofas. There is a large flat screen TV with SKY movies and sports and a games console. Also a games box with board games and books.

At the rear of the property move through the lobby to the large farmhouse style kitchen and dining area which has a door out to the shared courtyard garden. You will find the kitchen fully kitted with utensils to cook up a storm and all the usual gadgets - large range style cooker and double oven, dishwasher, microwave, under bench larder fridges etc. There is an American style fridge/freezer in the shared utility area along with a downstairs loo, washing machine and tumble dryer.

The town of Masham is superbly placed for walking and visiting local attractions. A market has been held here since 1393 when a charter was granted by Richard II and the town subsequently thrived due to the easy access of the flocks from nearby Fountains and Jervaulx Abbeys. It still hosts a market every Wednesday and Saturday, and there are plenty of welcoming pubs and delightful tearooms.

Morton House can be rented on its own or in conjunction with ‘The Stable Block’, therefore able to sleep up to 16 persons in 7 bedrooms.

The nearest train stations are Northallerton and Thirsk if you prefer to travel by rail.

The Coach House at Jervaulx in Lower Wensleydale is nestled in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and within two miles of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park. The tranquil hamlet of Jervaulx is famous for the atmospheric ruins of the Cistercian Jervaulx Abbey which is almost in the front garden with the top of the walls visible from the living area windows. Rivers, reservoirs, pastures, woodlands, ancient monuments and breathtaking hills and moorland are right here on our doorstep. The Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks, York, Durham and Ripon cathedral cities, the sophisticated spa town of Harrogate, the relaxed market towns of Leyburn, Masham and Richmond and the beautiful beach at the Victorian resort of Saltburn by the Sea are all within easy reach.

Located on the first floor above the former coach house, the property has been fully renovated to a high standard whilst retaining its original features and character (including vaulted ceilings with exposed original roof beams throughout). The stunning interior combines a mixture of contemporary and traditional style with wooden floors, double glazing and central heating throughout. The spacious open-plan living area is equipped with a wood burner with a free supply of wood creating a cosy and welcoming atmosphere on even the coldest days.

The sumptuous welcome basket will ensure that your holiday gets off to a great start in a truly spectacular part of the country. If you are lucky and here at the right time of year you may even be treated to a bottle of our home-grown apple juice or home-brewed cider.

There is off-road parking for at least 2 cars and secure bicycle storage is available in the stables across the courtyard. By prior arrangement we can also accommodate a holiday with your horse with stabling available in an adjacent paddock – please enquire first.

Please note that we are currently renovating a building at the far end of the courtyard but it should not affect your use of the dining / sitting area.

Outside, you have your own enclosed garden and furnished terrace directly outside the kitchen for al fresco dining, or you can load up a tray and follow the path from the garden gate to a private terrace built into the garden walls which offers spectacular unspoilt views of the Dales and Ripon Cathedral (as the name of the cottage suggests.) The cottage accommodation consist of; a main sitting room with log burner and smart TV, a snug also with log burner and smart TV, a fully equipped kitchen with door opening out in to the garden and terraces, a downstairs loo and utility / boot room with washing machine and dryer. The space
Forge Cottage is perfectly equipped for cyclists ,walkers & outdoor enthusiasts wishing to explore Yorkshires Dales, Moors & Coastlines on an affordable budget.
Originally a farm workers cottage & has been here a long time so has plenty character & a few quirks ! The wood burning stove means its really cosy on rainy days &on summer days the garden is the place to be -looking out across the beautiful open fields .

The cottage has a double bedroom which can easily be converted to a twin.
A private cosy sitting room with tv , wifi & tea & coffee making facilities is adjacent to the guest bedroom .

Guests have access to
Breakfast room ( buffet / continental breakfast included ) and house bathroom .
The Cottage also has a beautiful spacious garden looking out on to the countryside beyond.
Ample parking .


This is a beautiful tranquil base from which to explore this part of Yorkshire hiking, biking or by car.

Hot & cold drinks, cereal & toast are provided. There are many restaurants in Ripon, with outside seating & take away service.

Market view looks over the ancient and attractive market square with its old buildings and areas of interest. It is central for hotels, shops and scenic walks. You’ll love Market view because it is spacious, well equipped and has a lovely atmosphere. There are a combination of small shops, offering art, clothing, and souvenirs. There is a great selection of hotels, pubs and tearooms. There is an excellent range of local food shops.
Many scenic walks are on the doorstep. Babies welcome.

It is a large studio apartment on the ground floor. The king size bed is separated from the lounge.
There is a separate kitchen and a separate bathroom. There is a walk in shower.

Guest access
Guests can park outside or across the little road on the Market square. The key safe is within the door frame.
There is one step into the apartment. The apartment is all on one level.
There are 4 electric charging stations for electric cars on the market square.
