Standing in the shadow of a 15th century peel tower, a sandstone house which has been created from two cottages and a barn. The house stands 100 yards back from the River Border Esk and looks over beautiful parkland. The area is steeped in history, when it was part of the debatable land, an area between England and Scotland where no rule of law applied until The Act of Union in 1603.

The house and tower are isolated from other dwellings and overlook the lovely Kirkandrews on Esk Church. The property is reached by a 400m long private tarmac drive and there is plenty of parking in the gravelled courtyard. The garden is mainly lawn with some shrubs and trees. The Border Esk has a prolific run of autumn salmon and whilst it was once famed for its sea trout, there is a smaller run of sea trout in the summer. Some fishing in front of the house is available to guests by arrangement and other beats on The rivers Esk, Eden, Annan, Nith and Tweed can be rented online through Fishpal. There is a tennis court nearby, which again can be used by arrangement. Well behaved dogs are welcome , but we would prefer them not to go upstairs or be allowed onto beds and chairs.

The house is a great place to get away from it all with family or groups of friends. It is ideally situated for exploring The Roman Wall, Historic Carlisle and Gretna Green. Being close to the M6 and A74 means that it does not take long to venture further afield. The Lake District is easily accessible, Ullswater can be reached in forty minutes.

Being only half a mile from the Border, you also have the Scottish Borders to explore. The ice cream in Langholm is a must, and you can look for Cashmere bargains in Hawick. Visit Drumlanrigg Castle, Floors castle and Hermitage Castle.

It was in a lovely setting very private and the hot tub was covered with a roof meaning whatever weather it was a delight. The pictures you see are old pictures, the little decked patio is no longer there but that didn’t really matter because when we were outside we were making good use of the hot tub which ofcourse is now sheltered by a pergola! This place is good for if you want to get away from the world and focus on you and your partner, there is a 6 foot privacy fence surrounding with woods and a burn to the rear. Highly recommend!"

- "Apartment was close to a large grocery store and about 0.8 miles to city center. We did not have a car, but buses and cabs were easy to find. There are no restaurants near the apartment- just takeaway." - "Even though the house is a self catering one, I, was surprised to find that milk sugar and biscuits along with oil had been provided. These little things make a huge difference! Very thoughtful. The bathrooms need a bit of tlc and a mixer! Otherwise the property is very clean and in a great condition. Geltsdale was built as a private house for the Mayor of Carlisle in 1904 in the village of Wetheral which is recognised as an unspoilt beauty spot. The village is built above the banks of the River Eden around a picturesque village green. There are several amenities including a 4* hotel, leisure club, restaurant, church, village shop, bowling green and cricket field. With its beautiful views over the Eden Valley, riverside walks and the Lake District, Scottish Borders and Hadrian's Wall all within a half hour drive, Wetheral is an excellent holiday location. Geltsdale is in a tranquil setting surrounded by several acres of garden and woodland and enjoys views over the grounds and River Eden to the Castle Carrock Fells.

The historic city of Carlisle is a 10 minute drive with a wealth of activities and attractions for the whole family to enjoy, along with the Lanes Shopping Centre with all your favourite high street shops. There are numerous bars and restaurants for a night out, parks for picnics, soft play and a trampoline park for the kids, and castle, cathedral and museum to explore the historic past of the city.

Geltsdale East Wing is on the first and second floor, as the name suggests, of the East Wing, it has its own entrance to the first floor and is centrally heated throughout. The lounge enjoys open rural aspect with electric stove effect fire, Wi-Fi and TV. Spacious fitted kitchen/dining room with electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and dining table. Utility room with washer/dryer and freezer. Cloakroom with hand basin and WC. Master double bedroom with en-suite shower room with hand basin and WC.

All gas, electric, bed linen and towels provided. Cot and highchair available. Private parking and EV charger available. Patio and garden furniture with views over the gardens to the fells beyond.

- "We had a really great stay at Geltsdale East Wing, with some really unexpected bonus features - leaving aside the excellent cottage for a moment, the views from the windows over the gardens to the surrounding landscape were stunning - and only surpassed by the sight of deer, pheasants, herons and ducks making their frequent visits to the grounds. The cottage itself is excellent - with everything you could wish for on a break away. There being just two of us, we had use of the first floor of the wing, entrance being via a private door and staircase. On entering the accommodation proper, a large reception area provides access to a utility / cloakroom with washing machine, heating boiler, and plenty of space for shoes, coats and hats. The reception area also opens into a large light and airy hall (from which stairs ascend to the second floor (if there are more of you staying), and provides access to the large double bedroom (with en-suite shower-room) and the kitchen diner from which a separate lounge opens via double doors. The kitchen diner is very well equipped - a large table and chairs is the focus of the dining area, but attention is soon drawn to the large windows from which the previously mentioned views can be absorbed. The kitchen includes a dishwasher as well as all the appliances you might wish to make use of. If you prefer to eat out, there are plenty of good eateries - as well as being aware of local hostelries, we discovered a number of farm shop cafes and garden centres providing good quality food. The rooms in the East wing are spacious and full of light; the wing was well equipped, warm and exactly what we needed for a relaxing break away. Parking was easy too - we have a Citreon Berlingo crewvan and were pleased to find plenty of room to turn as well as park. Before closing, mention must be made of Gail and the team at Cumbrian Cottage Holidays, who were so helpful in ensuring that our holiday was as enjoyable and relaxing as it good be - communication and support were excellent, thank you. If we are up in this area again, Geltsdale East Wing will be our first choice for accommodation and we strongly recommend it."

This family-friendly semi-detached townhouse boasts spacious living, kitchen and dining rooms, plus six bedrooms, each with their own facilities including an ensuite bathroom - just the definition of a comfortable trip away! You'll also find original and traditional features aplenty such as the old fire places (although these are purely decorative).

Located on the ground floor of the house, the living room is fitted with four sofas and a flat screen TV with access to Freeview channels and streaming apps.

In the dining room, you’ll find a large table with seating so all members of your party can enjoy mealtimes together at Chatsworth Townhouse I.

The kitchen is fully fitted with an integrated microwave, kettle, coffee maker, oven/hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and much more. A washer and dryer are also provided in the separate utility room, located next door to the kitchen.

The facilities on offer at the property don’t end inside. Step outside from the kitchen, and there is an enclosed back garden boasting a hot tub and outdoor dining area.

We have 3 cats and 2 dogs so must like animals. one dog is a German shepard and will bark at the postman so this room is not suitable for shift workers trying to sleep through the day.

A cleaner comes once a week

there is living room, dining room, kitchen and main bathroom down stairs where this room is.
the kitchen and living areas are shared with ourselves.

Easy access to the M6 makes this an ideal base for exploring the north of Cumbria and a good stopping place for traveling up to Scotland.

The space
I offer a spacious ensuite double room with its own TV and desk space.
Downstairs is a shared living room, kitchen, and back garden.

Living room includes a TV, lounge and dining space.

Kitchen facilities include washing machine, dishwasher and all the other essentials.

No smoking indoors, this can be done out the front or in the back garden.

Guest access
During your stay you will have full access to living room, kitchen facilities and back garden. There is free parking on the street adjacent to the archway.

This is my home. I am in my late 20s, and I work from home 9-5 from Monday to Friday so you can usually find me in my office upstairs.

My place is close to Hadrian's Way , long-distance footpath and route 72 Hadrian's cycleway. Regular bus service to town, convenient for castle, cathedral and museum, shops nearby, including supermarket. You’ll love my place because it is convenient and not expensive, secluded and peaceful , secure for bikes, comfortable bunk beds and plenty of space.. My place is good for couples, solo travellers, not really for families or pets. Useful if you just want a short stay or city break.

The space
There is a single and double bunk. I provide bedding and towels, and food for breakfast, (eg fruit, bread, muesli, yoghurt, biscuits) tea and coffee, milk in the fridge, but feel welcome to tell me what you would like me to get in. There is a fridge, microwave, kettle, and I have recently upgraded, installing plumbing to create a toilet, washbasin and electric shower! There is a fan and convector heater, but it is not suitable for the depths of winter, or for long-term stays. If it is fine you can sit out on the decking or in the garden. It is not really suitable for families with young children, or for pets.

Summerhouse, shed, garden . Access through the garden, side gates, no need to go through house , independent. Parking by side of the road.

Other things to note
Hello, some people have been disappointed previously there is no running water in the summerhouse, so this has all changed, as from last Thursday, 3rd April! There is now a cold water supply, a toilet, washbasin and electric !shower. The easiest way I can find to describe it is basic glamping with many extra facilities, and breakfast, for less than the price of a youth hostel!

Double room in a quiet cul de sac with a small fully equipped kitchenette available to you personally. The shower room is also private.
The house is situated to the West of the city. 20 minute walk into the town centre and a 10 minute walk to the hospital. Bus route around the corner with excellent links to various other local areas and beyond. Outside downstairs garden space. Own private entry and exit to the property.
Close to all local amenities and a good base for walkers.

The house is a semi detached much loved family home with free parking to the front of the property situated in a quiet cul de sac just off the main road.

Guest access
Your space is the upstairs part of my home with your own entry and egress. There is a small outside seating area that attracts the sunshine on a morning.

During your stay
You will be met on arrival, given keys and any additional information or questions that you may have will be answered at that time.

There is a Tourist Information office in the town centre offering a full range of accessible details about what the county and the wider area has to offer.

Other things to note
The bus route around the corner serves the West of the county but there is a bus station in the town centre that serves the wider area.

Carlisle is a major transport hub in Cumbria with an excellent bus and rail service to the region and other areas.

There are takeaways nearby as well as local supermarkets.
