Stanwix Cottage dates back to the 1650s when it was part of the coaching Inn which is now the Crown and Thistle. It has been recently fully renovated and is an ideal comfortable base to tour the City of Carlisle, Cumbria, including the Lake District or Southern Scotland.

Tucked away in the northern corner of Cumbria close to the Scottish Border and Gretna Green, famous for eloping couples getting married over the anvil, you will find the hamlet of Netherby, 5 miles north east of Longtown. Gretna Green is now a chic restaurant and shopping destination, designer shops can also be found at Gretna Gateway Outlet Village a mile away in Gretna.

The area is perfect for guests looking for a break where they can relax and unwind yet easily reach all the tourist hot spots and attractions. Eden Grove Cottage is a delightful 3-bedroom eco-friendly cottage nestled down and quaint courtyard lined with established trees and shrubs, creating a peaceful, attractive location.

Formally a stable block, the building has been converted into a surprisingly-large holiday home for up to six guests with a spacious open-plan kitchen and dining area. Leading off the kitchen is the first of the two bathrooms with a walk-in shower and loo. Two steps lead down from the dining area into the snug living room with a beautiful log-burning stove to relax in front of after a day out exploring the local area.

The wooden staircase with handrail leads to the first-floor corridor with wooden floorboards and is flanked by the original red-stone wall that spans the length of the building. A lovely original feature from the building's past. Off the corridor are three equally-sized double bedrooms, each benefiting from large windows and vaulted ceilings. At the end of the corridor are the second bathroom comprising of a bath, basin, loo and heated towel rail. Next door to the bathroom is the WC with a loo and heated hand-towel rail.

Four Oaks Cottage is part of our cosy Four Oaks Estate, and is located next door to Four Oaks House, our modern 7-bedroom home.

Situated in the farming village of Cargo, a suburb of Carlisle, Four Oaks Cottage provides a relaxing home away from home. With a large private garden complete with its very own children’s playground, your little adventurers will love it. For the adults, we have a state-of-the-art outdoor hot tub (under a gazebo with both weatherproof and privacy curtains).

In addition, there’s also a full-sized outdoor ping pong table and an artificial grassed area with everything you need to play footpool. Further down the garden area is a private space for two cars, this is gated off for safety and privacy.

Entering the cottage into the hallway, you’ll find the lounge to the left, the kitchen straight ahead, and the stairs to the right that leads to four cosy bedrooms.

The lounge is a large open plan space for living and dining space. The french doors that lead to the garden provide lots of natural light, and are lovely left open on a hot day to allow fresh air in and you get to listen to the birds which is always a plus bonus. There is ample seating for family or guests, a large leather sofa, and a leather swivel snuggle chair complete with a matching foot stool.

Adults and kids will never be stuck for something to do, the sideboard is full of board games and toys to entertain you on those rainy days or stay-at-home evenings. Or why not snuggle up and watch our large 55-inch smart TV with a DVD player, whilst keeping warm next to our gorgeous log burner (spare wood can be found in the garden)?

In the kitchen, we hope you’ll find everything you need to make your cooking experience as enjoyable as possible. We provide all crockery and utensils, kettle, and toaster. There is a fridge freezer with a cold water dispenser for those hot days, an electric fan-assisted oven and separate grill, a ceramic hob with an extraction hood, a built in microwave, an integrated dishwasher, a washing machine (a separate condenser dryer in the under stairs cupboard) and of course the all-important built-in wine fridge for the most important thing.

There is an additional ground-floor toilet for your convenience. We also have a condenser dryer, which can be found in the cupboard under the stairs. Within the house, you’ll also find essentials like the iron and ironing board, along with cleaning equipment such as the hoover, sweeping brush, first aid kit, and more!

Upstairs there are four bedrooms and a family bathroom, each bedroom sleeps two people. The two twin bedrooms have a zip and link bed option which can either offer a twin or super king-sized setup to suit you and your guests - just let us know in advance what you would like.

Without needing to drive anywhere, you can take lovely walks along the river Eden and to the neighboring village of Rockliffe to enjoy a meal or drink. With a five-minute drive, you can be in Carlisle and can take advantage of the 24-hour Asda or shop or you can go the opposite direction and have a 10-minute to Gretna Green to enjoy the shops.

Situated in Warwick-on-Eden, this delightful cottage where the hay was originally stored, is within five minutes of the M6 motorway near Carlisle. Built of local sandstone, it dates back to around 1842 and overlooks a cobbled courtyard. It was tastefully restored some twenty years ago retaining the original wooden beams and offers a high standard of accommodation for a maximum of four people. It's within walking distance of both the renowned pub, The Queens and local shops at Warwick Bridge.

The space
On the ground floor there is a large lounge/diner with picture window/door which looks out onto the cobbled courtyard, a kitchen, separate utility room and a downstairs cloakroom. Upstairs there is a master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom with walk in shower and a kingsize bed. There is also a large family bathroom with views over the fields. It has a three piece suite and integrated shower over the bath.

After a day out exploring, enjoy a quiet relaxing drink overlooking the courtyard perhaps before taking a five minute stroll to The Queens for a meal or take a short drive to Wetheral. Just so much to do and explore right on the doorstep!

My husband & I have owned the cottage for approximately nine years now and have just replaced all the bedroom carpets with top quality Brinton carpeting and in the hall have replaced the carpeting with Amtico tiling - much more practical, especially in the winter months. We spend quite a lot of time ourselves here as its ideal as we are both retired and want to make the cottage a home from home which is ideal for us but also for great for guests.

Homely and peaceful 17th century cottage in the heart of Burgh-by-Sands, on Hadrian's Wall Path. Carlisle - 5 miles.

The space
The ground floor contains an open plan kitchen/dining/living space, a separate living room, complete with 32" Smart HD TV and cosy wood burning stove.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, gas oven and hob, and washing machine. In addition to this, there is a dining table and chairs suitable for four people which can easily double as a workspace.

Completing the ground floor is a bathroom comprising of bath with shower over, W.C and wash hand basin.

Stairs lead to the first floor which has two double bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite cloakroom. A cupboard on the landing houses the tumble drier. The second bedroom has an extra, reduced height, space, which can be used as a sleeping platform for children ( quality thick 3' single mattress provided), or for a travel cot. Also TV with DVD player and Chromecast.

For small children, a high chair, stair gate and travel cot are available (no charge - please just ask when booking).

Every room has central heating.

In the 18th century the cottage was the village tailors shop, birthplace, in 1770, of gothic and romantic poet John Stagg.

The whole of the house is accessible to guests. Although the main bathroom is downstairs, guests need to be able to climb stairs to the first floor bedrooms. In addition to this there is a spacious garden with ample parking for two cars, a seating area, and a wildlife pond.

Other things to note
The cottage has an excellent BT Fibre Broadband signal for you to connect to during your stay. The mobile phone signals in the village are improving all the time, but they are patchy in a few areas. We get a signal in most parts of the cottage, and also get 4G reception. Phone reception and reasonable WiFi signal also extends to the lower garden areas. Bedroom TV has a Chromecast so you can connect any of your streaming devices, and the Living Room has a 32" Smart HD TV with Netflix provided.

Check-in can be in person or with a secured key safe, it is completely up to you.

Grapevine Cottage is a cozy little getaway located on Hadrians Wall in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Sitting in the beautiful village of Burgh by Sands there are many fascinating historical sites to visit. This is also a great base for anyone who would like to explore the Lake District, Gretna Green and other hidden gems that Cumbria has to offer.

The space
As you enter the cottage you will be presented with the living room on one side and a lovely dining room on the other. This then leads into a fully equipt kitchen looking out onto the back garden. From the living room there are double doors leading into the back garden and patio area and has access to the garage that leads through to your allocated parking space.

Going up the stairs to the first floor you have 2 double bedrooms and a bathroom which includes both bath and shower. There is an airing cupboard that provides fresh towels and extra bedding.

Guest access
Grapevine Cottage is exclusively for guests during their stay including the garden seating area and wildlife pond. There is an allocated parking space which is located in a little courtyard at the back of the cottage.

Free Wifi & Netflix is available on arrival. The phone signal can be patchy in some areas. Unfortunately there isn’t a shop nearby but I provide fresh bread, milk & cereal upon arrival

We are dog friendly! We are also child friendly! Ghyllie Cottage is a two bedroom, two bathroom cottage that is over 200 years old! Wetheral is just 3 miles from junction 42 on the M6 and the village has great amenities including a Village Shop and post office, Cafe, and a great pub just across the road! Wetheral Railway Station is a short walk from the cottage with regular trains to Carlisle and Newcastle. Easy access to Gretna Green, the Lake District, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The space
Our cottage has been renovated to a high standard. Downstairs there is a big open plan kitchen diner with washing machine, dishwasher, oven and separate microwave. Plus a separate cosy lounge with an open fire (gas operated to make life easy!) And a downstairs loo. Stairs lead up to two spacious bedrooms both with ensuite bathrooms.

There is a travel cot, high chair and a good selection of toys and games for you to use during your stay. We can provide sheets/mattress protectors for the travel cot but require you to bring your preferred choice of baby quilt or blankets etc.

The cottage does not have a garden as such but we have provided a small safe enclosed patio area for dogs. This means you don't need to rush out in the morning or last thing at night with your dog or even if it's raining!

The cottage is in a great village with loads of beautiful walks on the doorstep. The River Eden and Wetheral Woods are a short walk away (5mins) with lots of dedicated paths.

Please make yourself at home in our cottage. There is a large cupboard in the kitchen where we keep our personal stuff but other than that please use whatever else you want. All we ask is that you respect our home as you would your own.

Other things to note
The cottage is approx 200 years old. There are steps leading up to the front door and stairs leading up to the bedrooms on the first floor.

This cosy but perfectly formed urban cottage is within walking distance to the City but has a little oasis in the backyard to chill /unwind.
