- "I always check the cleanliness of bedding when staying away from home, and two of the three beds were found to be damaged. The support slats for one single bed were either missing, broken or unsecured, and the frame of another double was broken and a pillow positioned on top of the frame to help support the mattress. The single bed was unsafe and the double is uncomfortable. Sleeping arrangements proved to be inconvenient for our group of four. Shabby throws covered both sofas, which are not shown on the property description. Photographs were taken at the start and end of our stay which evidence no maintenance visit ever took place, despite the owner stating otherwise. The outside patio at the rear of the property is neglected and dirty with rotten apples from the tree spread across the yard. The front path area is very dirty and needs a thorough pressure wash. The staff on call were unable to help us as they contacted the owner several times, but they did nothing. There are lots of wonderful properties in the Lakes but sadly, this is not one of them despite a good location. Much better options are available elsewhere. ."

Hot tub worked really well and was a nice treat and parking for 2 cars (1 off street, 1 with a residents permit). Wasn’t the most cosy sofa/living room (there are 2 small sitting rooms) but for the price we paid we were happy. Fresh and clean hotel style towels and bedding. The booking is actually with Sykes Cottages which we didn’t realise when booking and we do prefer smaller companies - we had to wait 15 mins on the phone when we had a query and they don’t action any requests sent via hotels.com! Highchair and travel cot they provided looked in good condition. You could tell it was dog-friendly in the living rooms, but maybe we just got unlucky and stayed after a long haired dog! All as shown in the photos! "

Meals can be enjoyed in the separate dining room, which continues the elegant décor with another ornate ceiling and a cosy open fire.

Upstairs, two comfortable bedrooms provide a restful retreat. The master bedroom features a king-size bed, a sink, and a window seat with views across to the lake. A spacious single bedroom completes the sleeping arrangements. The family bathroom includes a shower over the bath, a hand basin, and a WC.

Please Note: Old Belfield is over 200 years old and is a listed building. As such, it features some uneven floors and steep, open staircase. The Barn has amazing views across the valley - lush verdant meadows, grazed by the traditional Herdwick sheep.

On the ground floor is a stylish, modern kitchen with granite worktops and high quality appliances – a full height fridge/freezer, dishwasher, induction hob, fan-assisted oven, microwave and Nespresso coffee pod machine. The views from the window over the valley are fantastic. There is a useful drying/cloak room with a Bosch washer/drier.

Upstairs is a large living space with a Sony 4kTV with Apple Airplay and Chromecast, so you can stream content from your own devices on the screen. There is also a Blu-ray player and Bluetooth sound-bar providing lots of entertainment options while snuggled on the comfy sofas. The views get even better from the large upstairs window in this room. Adjacent, there is a romantic and stylish bedroom with a large, comfy king-size bed and solid oak furniture. There is a porcelain tiled bathroom just off the bedroom. This has a shower over the bath and a cute tiny window overlooking a waterfall. There is a balcony door in the bedroom, with a stone staircase leading outside.

There are two patio areas outside - one next to a waterfall (provided that the fells have been wet enough!) and another at the opposite end of the Barn, with a table and chairs, a charcoal BBQ and a great view of the valley.

A backup power generator can be activated in the event of a power cut.

The Lakes has a good bus service. For those with a car, there is a parking space just outside the barn. This is fitted with a 7kW EV charger for those who wish to bring and charge an electric vehicle.

A long hallway leads to a spacious and very comfortable lounge equipped with HDTV with many freeview and pay per view channels, bluetooth speaker, wifi, DVD, luxurious deep seated leather furniture, solid oak flooring and coffee table, lamps and an exposed slate chimney breast. Local art adorns the walls. A spacious well equipped kitchen/ diner is finished to a high standard with solid oak units. A separate utility room to the rear of the cottage houses a washing machine, tumble dryer and large fridge freezer as well as a Worcester Bosch central heating boiler. You will find a very handy downstairs toilet and wash basin as well as a clothes drying area, coat and shoe storage providing plenty of storage for backpacks and walking gear.

The Golden Mountain Chinese takeaway is only 50 yards away and provides excellent Chinese food and incredible value - and is very popular with the locals from the surrounding towns and villages.

On street parking outside the cottage is almost always available overnight after the shops and banks start to close from 5pm and your car is fine there until 10am the next day. In any event, a parking permit is provided so the car can be parked in a local authority official car park at the very safe Broad street car park ( a very pleasant 3 minute walk through the bustling village, and the permit provides free parking at many other local authority car parks in other local towns such as Bowness, Ambleside and Kendal - handy for exploring and can save you £7 per day! There is also plenty of free on- street parking in and around the village if you prefer. Many guests prefer to unload the car outside the cottage and take advantage of the free car parking facility for the duration of their stay. Access to and from the car park in the village is really easy and so the choice is yours. Remember, the train station, bus terminus, 4x4 car hire, cycle hire, taxi and boat hire all available nearby. Upstairs, you’ll find three comfortable bedrooms, two of which have king-size beds and a Jack and Jill en-suite on the first floor, while the other double bedroom on the second floor boasts an en-suite bathroom with free-standing bath and stunning views of the local scenery.

You’ll find plenty of walking routes right outside the property, straight up School Knott of Windermere or over to Orrest Head. With Lake Windermere just a stone’s throw away, you won’t have to go far to experience all the joys this stunning part of the Lakes’ has to offer.

If you love cycling, you’ll be spoiled for choice with the many cycling routes in the surrounding area. And when it comes to dining out, Windermere and the neighbouring villages are brimming with charming pubs, restaurants, and cafes.

Don’t miss out on visiting the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, or taking a relaxing lake cruise on Windermere – both just a short drive away or a 20-minute walk from the door.

A modernised retreat in a quiet location, just a short distance from Windermere

Enter into the main living and dining area where you'll find a sumptuous sofa set in front of a wood burning stove, above which sits the wall mounted SMART TV. The room is lit by the most interesting light fittings, which co-ordinate perfectly with the oak stair and bannister rails.

Through to the country kitchen with fridge and small freezer box, electric oven and hob, microwave, and washer/dryer.

The space
Next door, the downstairs shower room with a spacious cubicle, vanity basin, and WC is fully tiled. There's a handy door to the outside from here too and useful space for coats and boots.

Take the stairs to the first floor and the spacious, vaulted bedroom with exposed original beams and bespoke oak furnishings. The king-size bed has a superb mattress and is dressed in crisp, quality linens to ensure a good night's rest.

Outside, there's a cobbled, raised patio area with seating, ideal for enjoying a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. This area leads to an informal garden space that blends seamlessly with the natural landscape.

You're welcome to bring your dog to Windy Hall Cottage, but do be aware that much of the land isn't fully enclosed and there are sheep in the adjacent fields.

There's a private parking space at the top of the driveway. Please note: there are security cameras on the front elevation and car park.
