Listed Historic waterside - sleeps 14
Cottage
South Lakeland District

Waterside house is an ancient farmhouse which sits in a large garden surrounded by fields and woodland, it has belonged to the Finsthwaite estate since it was build in 1580 . Its historical character is shown in the large fireplace and the beams, which add to the charm.
Waterside is known as the home of the “Finsthwaite Princess”. who was the alleged illegitimate daughter of Bonnie Prince Charlie. She lived in three rooms on the first floor which were panelled out of scotch pine for her.

The space
Everything you need for a perfect holiday is right here on site. No need to get in the car - just enjoy the lovely garden and the views and the steam train passing by!
The house is perfect for groups of up to 14 people. The kitchen has everything you need for catering for large groups and the large dining table makes for very sociable dining. There are 2 separate lounges for relaxation, both with comfy sofas. One lounge has a log burner - the other one has got a separate TV room. Lots of books and games are provided. Due to the nature and age of the property there are low beams and old features everywhere. Please take extra care on the staircase and in general!
The utility room has a washing machine and plenty of space for coats and boots. The front door leads into a small porch from which you can access a boot room. It then leads into an atmospheric large living room with a huge ancient fireplace, where a wood burner is now installed. There is also a separate TV room , dining room with a large ancient oak table, quirky WC and a kitchen with a door leading into the large garden. The outside garden provides a patio off the kitchen with garden furniture, a small stream and a barbeque.
The old oak staircase leads to the first floor with two spacious double bedrooms, a third large twin room in addition to 2 very large bathrooms. Three of these rooms were panelled in scotch pine for the ‘Finsthwaite Princess’ who lived in Waterside in the late 1760s. The other large bedroom was originally a hay loft, where you can still find the quirky old loft door now acting as a shutter overlooking the beautiful garden. Down some little steps is the third bedroom which is a twin room.
Half way up the next set of stairs is a small landing with one double bedroom with ancient floorboards.
The third floor consists of a twin bedroom, which can also be made into a double bed and a large attic room which has two sets of bunk beds and a children’s den.
The oil fired central heating and the log burning stove make Waterside a very warm and cozy house.
There is a lot of parking at the back of the house, next to Waterside Barn which can be also rented separately as a venue.
With such an old house the quirkyness comes with low beams - a very ancient and not all even staircase and small steps leading into the kitchen/lounge and bedrooms - all in all the house is full of charm, but please be mindful of bringing people with mobility issues.

We don’t charge a cleaning fee and expect guests to leave the house in the same condition as they found it!

Other things to note
Please note the postcode is only a guideline. LA12 8NA will lead you to a house which sits on the other side of the river in order to get to waterside cross the bridge with the swan hotel facing you . Turn the very first left along the river sharp corner over bridge . Waterside sits below you .
