This gorgeous bolthole is set in the heart of pretty Ryedale, near Malton, in the Vale of Pickering surrounded by rolling countryside. Perfect for relaxing weekends, walkers, cyclists, a romantic retreat or a culture-filled experience with excellent restaurants and places to visit nearby.
The Granary comprises a spacious one bedroom cottage with a Vi-spring mattress on a super king sized bed, Egyptian cotton bed linen, antique pine furniture, art on the walls and a beautiful view across the open fields of the arable farm. It has a brand new eat-in kitchen (with new Nespresso Coffee machine) and a tasteful bathroom with a separate walk-in shower as well as a bath and White Company towels. The large sitting room has a wood burner for cosy evenings (logs included), a large sofa and armchair, fresh flowers, coffee tables, all furnished with the owners' art, antiques and collectables.
Set at the end of a private road off a country lane, this is unquestionably peaceful and idyllic in its setting and is full of character. It adjoins the main house at the very end of the property to ensure it retains its privacy but the owners are on hand to offer advice and local knowledge, having grown up in the local area.
It has a fenced and (mostly patio) garden, with table and chairs, stunning views across towards the North York Moors and a wood-burning brazier to keep warm or to use as a barbecue.

This part of the building has just three two bedroom apartments, each one finished to an extremely high standard. The building is situated just off Bootham on a quiet street, facing the historic ruins of St Mary's Abbey. First built in 1088 it is all that remains of one of the wealthiest and most powerful Benedictine monasteries in England.

Gallery Apartment is the ground floor apartment of this development and has been very thoughtfully appointed. The living area has a fully fitted kitchen with everything that you need, including plenty of storage space for all the tasty treats that you buy when you are out and about exploring. There is a dining table that comfortably seats 4 people. There is then a spacious, comfortable seating area with a sofa and Retro Eames Brown Leather Lounge Chair and Footstool, where you can sit back, relax and enjoy your time in the living area. The entrance is disgusting and the front door simply does not work properly. I was locked out for a couple of hours and a neighbour informed me that it happens all the time. I really needed to get some things inside and I was very distressed by the time my husband came back and finally got inside. The configuration of the bathroom is downright dangerous. A tiny tip, if you want the frig to work efficiently, it is a good idea to defrost it. The freezer was so frosted over we could not really use it. Despite some nice touches it was very disappointing."

The location is fabulous for those wishing to use it as a quiet base to make day trips out to the NE coast and York. The apartment is warm and homely and very practical for a family of four, with the bedrooms at the oposite end of a long corridor from the living area. Perfect for relaxing in front of the box with a glass of wine after the kids have gone to bed. There are a few little areas that would benefit from improving, which I have fed back, but nothing that would stop you loving this accomodation as we did. If any of you are horse fans, you will love being in the heart of an area with race horse stables all around you and in fact right next door. Our girls loved watching the horses being ridden past the apartment every day to be taken out for their dailly exercise and training. Honestly, don't hesitate in booking this holiday rental. You won't regret it!"

Although the setting was tranquil it seems the no hen party rule only applied to our lodge as there was a large group close to us who were noisy into the early hours. Only negatives of the lodge were no phone service, tv kept freezing and we found that only one towel supplied per guest for 3 nights was not enough, given that we used the hot tub. Had we been told to bring more towels we would have done so. We would return."

Situated on the edge of the gorgeous North Yorks Moors, this contemporary conversion has all the luxury comforts you need to relax and retreat, and is ideally located for exploring the joys of North Yorkshire.

The Old Chapel has been sympathetically converted into a bespoke holiday home, providing an eco-friendly retreat in a uniquely beautiful setting. The whole property benefits from cosy underfloor heating, provided by an environmentally friendly air source heat pump, fuelled by fully renewable energy.
As you enter The Old Chapel, you are greeted by the stunning open plan ground floor, complete with full height vaulted ceiling and beautiful stained-glass windows. With a roomy understairs storage cupboard perfect for coats, bags and shoes, the ground floor is also serviced by a convenient downstairs WC. The open plan lounge features comfy seating, smart TV and a feature woodburning stove, as well as a cosy reading area, complete with curated books and board games should you encounter some typically ‘British’ weather!
The ground floor leads into a generous dining area, with large table seating for 6, DAB radio, and a nod to the property’s former use with a church pew. From the dining area you access the large open-plan kitchen, which is fully equipped with everything you need for your stay. The kitchen features all the white goods you could need in a fridge, freezer, oven, induction hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine, as well as some little extras, such as a Nespresso coffee machine.

The first floor is accessed through the grand open-plan staircase that looks out across the chapel, with a glass balcony creating a stunning space with exposed original beams. The first floor contains good sized king/twin bedrooms, each with exposed beams, glass balconies leading onto the stain glass windows that span between the bedrooms and lower floor, and their own individual heating controls to ensure a comfortable stay. The first bedroom is equipped with a king size bed, as well as a convenient en-suite shower room, equipped with a WC, sink, heated towel rail and rainfall shower (with lots of hot water and excellent pressure!).
The second bedroom can be conveniently configured as either a super king-size bed, or as a twin room, thanks to the comfortable zip-link beds, and a third fold out bed or travel cot can be provided for an additional child if requested on booking.
Next to this is the main bathroom, beautifully equipped with a WC, large sink area and a wonderful deep freestanding bath. With complimentary bespoke bath salts for our retreat bathing ritual, you can truly relax in these luxurious surroundings.
Your stay is sure to be comfortable with luxury White Company linens and towels provided, as well as the little extras to make your stay at The Old Chapel a home from home.
Whist one of the joys of The Old Chapel is its retreat like feel, should you venture into the outside world, there is a small patio area outside the front door where a bistro table and 4 chairs are provided for sunny days.

- Whilst the property is available for family groups to stay (indeed, we stay there regularly as a young family!), it is worth noting that the stairs are wooden, with glass balustrades, and the log-burner can get very hot when in use, so care will need to be taken to supervise little ones! A travel cot (in the double/twin room) can be provided on request, alongside a highchair and stair-gate.
- The Old Chapel has very thick stone walls which can mean there is limited phone reception inside the chapel. You can however utilise Wi-Fi calling and messaging through the Wi-Fi provided, or phone reception can usually be found by opening the front door!
- Whilst there isn’t dedicated on-site parking, there is plenty of on street parking available just a few steps away on the very quiet village road. Please be considerate of our neighbours as you park and access the chapel which is a tucked behind another house.
- In early 2025, we’ll be installing some additional internal glazing to improve the sound transfer from the ground floor to the bedrooms. Until then, this does mean that there is some sound transference from the kitchen/dining to the bedrooms through the gaps between floors to accommodate the beautiful stained-glass windows that span both floors. This is just something to take into consideration if you were wanting to sing loudly whilst cooking and there’s a light sleeper trying to sleep directly above you!

Our house is circa 1860, The School House, former headmasters house. It has rural views front and back but is only 10 minutes drive away from Malton and Pickering, and all the amenities they provide. Jenny's Place isn't as pretty as the chocolate box cottage that you often find in this area but as a modern bungalow this does have a few advantages! It is warm and cosy having a modern, efficient heating system. It has room for big, comfy sofas ideal for relaxing after a long day of exploring the great outdoors. Being a bungalow, access is on one level and it has a level paved garden to enjoy long summer evenings. One of the bedrooms features a king-size bed that can be split into two single beds on request excellent for families and groups of friends. As already mentioned, it also has a private driveway, ample free on-street parking adjacent to the property, and a lockable garage perfect for storing bikes, toys and outdoor equipment and for drying wet outdoor clothing.

Beautiful walks around the Howardian Hills, North Yorks Moors, market towns; Malton, Pickering and Helmsley a few miles away. Beautiful city of York is approx 30minutes by car.
Butterwick is an undiscovered gem!

The space
Rye View Cottage is a peaceful rural retreat. The bedroom and en suite available to guests are not in the main part of the house so although family members may use the utility room and study area below we try not to on an evening when somebody is staying.
We are ideally situated for visiting the City of York, the North Yorkshire Moors and the east coast. A good supply of literature is available for guests for both good and bad weather!
Homemade bread and cereals are optional should guests want breakfast. Please request prior to check in if this is required and we will be happy to accommodate at no extra cost.
A travel cot and stair gate are available if needed.
Butterwick is a small village made up of eleven houses with no through road therefore it has a charm and peace about it that is often difficult to find in today's busy world.
The birdsong is particularly outstanding.

Guest access
Guests may use the utility area and the study area below the bedroom for sitting and reading if they wish. The utility has a washing machine in and a hob as well as a downstairs wc. Please note there is no oven to cook purely a four ring hob.

During your stay
Both David and myself are happy to meet people and our aim is to make their stay as comfortable as possible.

Other things to note
The village of Butterwick has no public transport. If people have no transport my husband David has made arrangements to pick up and collect people if necessary and take to various places of interest for an agreed cost.
Butterwick has no village shop so anything needed either let us know in advance or bring it along with you.
