- "The ranch and facilities are amazing and a fun place to be. The hosts Raina and Kyle gave us a ranch tour of the 2000 acres, seeing elk, sika, oryx and lots of other game. The lodge is huge with a full commercial kitchen and plenty of room and super clean. My rock band had a recording session there and Kyle played the guitar and Raina sang with us- a great time. I highly recommend this 5 star property- we are goinig back ASAP." - "We spent a few days in October and Sol Y Sombra with family. This was such an amazing piece of land. The pictures don't include the 2000acres of beautiful ranch land and exotic animals we encountered! Once we arrived, we never left the property until the day of checkout. There's fishing, target shooting, hiking, swimming, and just plain lounging. Kids loved petting/feeding the goats, alpaca and donkey. They especially enjoyed the media room inside the party barn. Raina and Kyle are fantastic. Raina was quick to respond to any questions and very accommodating. Kyle was very knowledgeable about the animals. They were both so welcoming and engageable. I can't say enough good things about this rental and the owners. We're looking forward to returning."

Do wish there had been a better television selection. No national television stations." - "For my 1 night solo stay, my 2-double-beds room was spotless, there were 4 sets of towels (bath, hand and washcloth), and there were plenty of amenities available such as a new roll of toilet paper, full pump bottles of body soap, shampoo and conditioner. The hair dryer worked properly. The bathroom had very ample counterspace and a cubby hole underneath the right side, and a super handy pullout shelf underneath the left side of the counter. The water in the shower drained well. There was a lot of counter space in the bedroom area, on either side of the TV. One side functioned as a desktop with a table lamp and a chair. The other side was an ample counter and was over the refrigerator. There was an outlet on each side of the TV, accessible to the countertop (so, where a laptop or a cell phone could be easily placed. I will say that the refrigerator wasn't very cold, but I also didn't endeavor to move the dial to lower the temperature. There was also a microwave, but I didn't ever use it. The hotel had 3 or 4 luggage carts readily available for transfer of luggage to the room. I was on the 4th floor, and used both of the 2 available elevators during my stay, and only once had to wait long for an elevator to arrive. I would stay again at this Hampton Inn in a heartbeat. The area was safe, and the parking lot had good lighting for my rental car, so that gave me peace of mind. I don't remember being disturbed by any loud noises."

Mountain View Lodge lies on the western edge of the scenic Texas Hill Country, offering spectacular views and sunsets--great for gatherings large or small. This modern, 2-story (2,400 sq ft) lodge is along crystal-clear, spring-fed Pulliam creek (Middle Prong of the Nueces River), which is ideal for swimming, tubing, and snorkeling. A 5-ft-deep swimming hole is at the lodge. Nearby is a large natural spring.

The Lodge sits high above the creek with a lovely, panoramic mountain view. The area is Nueces Canyon, home to many species of birds and other wildlife. The Lodge is located 6 miles north of Camp Wood and 28 miles west of Leakey, near Barksdale, on a 23-acre ranch.

No other place can match the breath-taking view, serenity and seclusion of the Lodge. Hike up and down the river for miles. Hike the 23 acre pasture and county roads. There's a very friendly donkey in the pasture who will love you forever if you give him a salty snack! Other goats & sheep are by his side.

About 200 ft in front of the house is a fire pit dug into the ground, lined with rocks. There's a water hose nearby for safety. Scavenge the 23 acres for plenty of firewood. Roasting forks are there, too, by the BBQ pit on the downstairs porch.

There are large living areas upstairs and downstairs with a southwestern decor. The main living area is upstairs, which includes a large kitchen/dining area, a living room, and two bedrooms. Downstairs is an entertainment area and 2 more bedrooms. A door separates the two lower bedrooms for privacy. (All four bedrooms have doors for privacy.) Each level has a fireplace and a full bath.

Large decks on both levels provide majestic hill country views and a comfortable setting for relaxation. (See pictures for outdoor chairs and tables for each.) The fully equipped kitchen includes a microwave and a dishwasher. The downstairs deck includes a barbecue grill for outdoor cooking. Also downstairs are a washer and dryer.

There are 4 entrances to the house so people can go in and out without disturbing others. Two entrances are upstairs via two large staircases on two opposite sides of the house. Then, 2 entrances downstairs; one main entrance and another on the opposite side of the house via the downstairs porch where the BBQ pit is located.

Weather conditions: It is not just summertime that's great in the Hill Country. Fall, spring, and even winter are some of the most wonderful weather days. The water source for the Lodge is from a well tapped into the nearby spring aquifer--an extra treat. It's processed through a water softener just to remove the hardness and is really great quality water--classic Hill Country.

Pets ages 1 year or over are welcome.

Everything was very clean and well labeled. Instructions were so easy to follow. You won't be disappointed!"

Our cabin's comfortable back porch is also a wonderful place to enjoy birdwatching while enjoying the quiet babble of the river rapids. The front yard also provides the perfect spot for viewing the nighttime sky.

Looking for a great place to stop after a long day of travel or a weekend away to unwind and relax? Our two bedroom/two bath guest house is the perfect choice! We are located 5 miles outside of Junction, Texas on 20 acres. One bedroom has a king bed, the second has a full bed and the living room couch makes into a queen sleeper perfect for young kids. The guest house has the basic kitchen appliances should you choose to prepare your own meals, a small charcoal grill outside, and a washer and dryer to keep those clothes refreshed! The small front porch is perfect to enjoy your morning coffee or evening beverage while enjoying the beautiful sunrise/sunsets. While we (the owners) live on site, you will still enjoy a level of privacy on the 20 acres. Swimming, kayaking, bird watching are all within 15 -20 minutes away and wine country in Fredericksburg is about an hour drive.

- "Group of car enthusiasts going for an extended weekend to drive the twisted sisters route. The property is amazing, we saw lots of deer and other animals. No neighbors for miles. The entry road to the property is packed graded caliche and we had no problems with access even with our lowered vehicles. The house was amazing for 8 adults, we all had our own beds. You could definitely fit more people but I suppose that’s up to the owner and they may want to limit guests to reduce mess/issues. The pictures don’t do it justice. The kitchen is well stocked with plates, cups, pots, pans, basic seasonings, dish soap, and cooking utensils. There is a charcoal grill and also fire pit with a grate. Air conditioning was ice cold with separate upstairs and downstairs units. We had good cell reception on the property (but really didn’t need it, just enjoyed hanging out with friends). Excellent stay, we will be back!"

We have been slowly renovating the property, and now have four rooms and the Gathering House that are available for select dates. Room #4 consists of two King beds, a bathroom with a tub and shower, a/c, heat, Keurig coffee maker, microwave, and a mini-refrigerator. We have added 55" TVs, and Wi-Fi is available to our guests! The room has had a "face lift", with new paint and black-out curtains. There is a breezeway right outside the room for you to use, as well as a charcoal barbeque pit.

We are near the Nueces River where you can enjoy fishing, swimming, and kayaking. There are several restaurants in the area, including our onsite coffee shop, Barksdale Coffee Company!
