Cute lakefront cottage on all-sport Pickerel Lake near Portage, Michigan. Come relax at this quiet lake with a sandy beach at your doorstep. This quaint one bedroom cottage has everything you need for a memorable getaway for a couple or a small family.

There is a paddle boat, two kayaks, beach toys and games for outdoor play. Unwind in the hammock or beach loungers during the day. Tell stories and roast marshmallows around the firepit at night.
Good fishing lake for Bluegill, Bass and Pike.

Our lakefront cottage has a private sandy beach and is located in Southwest Michigan about 2 hours away from Chicago and Detroit, and 1 hour from Grand Rapids. It is very peaceful and quiet and, at the same time, the area has much to offer including restaurants, kid's activities, shopping and golf within a 10 minutes' drive or less. Several beautiful parks and nature areas with trails to explore close by.

Pickerel Lake is a 135 acre shallow all-sport lake. It warms up quick and our beach is perfect for children to play and swim and for floating around on inflatables. There is a boat launch down the road if you want to bring your own boat.

This lakefront cottage offers one bedroom, living room, kitchen/dining area, a bathroom with a shower, and a large three season porch.
The bedroom has a queen bed and a twin trundle. Both mattresses are memory foam. There is a dresser for clothing storage.
Living room has a flat screen tv, board games, adult and kid's books. There is a futon that folds down into a twin bed.
Dining area includes a table with seating for 4.

Kitchen has a refrigerator with a freezer, a toaster oven, and a hot plate with 2 burners. There is a coffee maker and a tea kettle. Coffee, tea, creamer and sugar are provided for your convenience.
You will also find pots, pans, plates, silverware, glasses (including wine glasses) and various utensils. There are baby spoons and forks and plastic dinnerware and cups if you wish to eat outside.
Other cooking essentials available at the cottage - oil, cooking spray, salt/pepper and a few herbs and spices, ketchup, mustard, mayo.

There is a small Charcoal grill for outdoor use (charcoal provided). Great lakeside firepit area (wood not provided).

We also supply Beach towels, bath and hand towels, extra linens, blankets and pillows.

In the backyard you’ll find a fire pit, ready for you to roast marshmallows and stargaze. For safety, never leave an open fire unattended. Ensure all flames are fully extinguished before leaving the area or retiring for the night. Upon entrance of the cabin, there is a front and back porch to enjoy your morning cup of coffee or to open up a good book.

Inside, you’ll be greeted by beautiful cedar interior from top to bottom. A nice size living room with comfortable seating and a smart TV, perfect for a movie night in. Fully redone and stocked kitchen for those delicious home cooked meals that we all crave! Adjacent to the kitchen is a dining table to seat up to 6.

The main floor bedroom has a queen bed and comfortable bedding. You’ll also find that the main floor bathroom has heated floors and a standing shower. The laundry area has an outside door leading to a dog run for those early morning/late night bathroom needs for our furry family members.

Upstairs, you’ll find a loft area equipped with a single twin bed, small dresser and a full body/heated massage chair! There is a door separating this area and the master suite. The master bedroom (on the 2nd floor, adjacent to the loft area) has a king size bed and a connecting bathroom with a hand wash tub.

In the backyard, you will find two (2) trailhead entrances. These have been marked in the "backyard" category in the photo gallery. These are walking trails only, no motor vehicles allowed.

We just purchased this property in spring of 2024! Please understand that we are still continuing to upgrade and add more amenities for the best experience as these months go on. But this cabin is near and dear to our hearts, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

We do have a Pack n' Play (bedding not provided), and highchair available upon request. Please let us know if you require these - they are no extra cost to you!

I'd also like to mention that we can comfortably sleep 5 guests, but can accommodate a couple more if needed. If this would be the case, it is $30 extra per person after 5 guests. Air mattresses with bedding would be provided in this case.

Guests have exclusive access to the entire 9-acre cabin property, stretching from the main road to the tree line. To the left, you'll find the Kal Val Saddle Club, which may occasionally be active but is generally quiet; feel free to attend their events at no cost. They tend to have a food truck vendor during lunch time in the summer! To the right is a privately owned house—please respect the neighbors by avoiding their side of the woods and property.

Early check-in/check-out may be available for a small fee, check with the Host beforehand.

If you are bringing a dog, please make sure to mention that in your booking message. It is $50 per dog. We do have a limit of 4 dogs, but are willing to be flexible of more if you let us know. We also ask if plan on bringing your dogs along, please do not leave them unattended in the cabin, unless they are contained in a crate that you would bring yourself. As we do not provide crates.

The house uses well water, which is safe to use, and there's also a water dispenser in the kitchen for your convenience.

For security, there are two outdoor cameras — one facing the driveway and one on the side of the house. And a camera in the garage. These cameras are never monitored during guest stays and are only reviewed in the event of an incident at the property. They are primarily in place to protect the home when it is unoccupied.

My only complaint is the lack of "swimmability" in the lake. The bottom is very soft, and there are a lot of lily pads near the shore. We didn't feel comfortable swimming in that area, due to the amount of possible snakes that could be living among them. The only way out to the lake is through the lily pads, so unless you're on a boat, you can't access swimmable water. I know that there's not much to be done about this issue. I did speak with a neighbor that mentioned that this end of the lake gets the most lily pads each year and this year was worse than most. Maybe it's been better in past years and will be again in the future? So if you're looking for ease of swimming access, this one is not a good option. But if they can fix it, the remainder of the lake is pretty clean and nice to kayak on."

Location is really great. Lake and beach are just opposite to house and they have everything that is needed for kids and adults ( floaties, kayaks etc). I can easily say this is one of best vacation. We got referral for jet ski and rented it for one day. Kids were not ready to leave the house when we were done, that much fun they had during the stay. Even inside house is so clean and have games for kids( helped when it was raining outside) . Overall we will never forget this experience and we will book again for sure."

Welcome to the Indian Lake Retreat located just minutes South of Kalamazoo in Vicksburg, MI. This fantastic lake home features 2600 square feet with 5 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms for sleeping accommodations for up to 12 people. The home sits on a double lot with 80' of lake-frontage and features a sandy bottom swimming area. The 758 acre lake is clean and deep (75 feet) for all types of lake activities including great fishing with many different species including smallmouth and largemouth bass, northern pike, bluegill, perch, and crappie to name a few. There is a dock (in season) as well as 2 kayaks and a paddle board. The lot is green grass for yard games and also has a 20' x 20' lakeside patio.
The home is fully appointed with a 1000 square foot covered deck with ceiling fans and surround sound. The deck and lower level are handicap accessible. Inside the home features a large kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a full side by side fridge, 2 mini-fridges, island with seating for 4, plus a larger elevated island bar with seating for 10, and dining table with seating for 8 that are perfect for entertaining. There is a 65” flat panel smart TV above the fireplace on the main floor. The home includes high speed wireless Xfinity cable internet. The lower level kitchen and dining area, outside deck area and garage all have surround system controlled by an ipad on the elevated island that will play your favorite streaming service. The lower level also has 2 full bathrooms, one of which also features direct outdoor access. Rounding out the main level is a smaller bedroom with a set of bunk beds.
Upstairs there are 5 bedrooms, 3 with king beds, one with a queen bed, and a very small room with bunk beds. There is a full bathroom upstairs. There are 2 full and 1 twin air mattresses and a Pack-N-Play crib. The laundry room is also located upstairs with oversized front load washer and dryer.
The garage is fully stocked with life vests, tubes, wake board, skis, kneeboard, floaties, beach toys, tailgate toss, 20 outdoor chairs, 2 single kayaks, an oversized 8 burner grill, and a 36" Blackstone flattop grill. The garage is heated and also has a pool table, foosball table, and smart TV, making it another great place to hang out.
The driveway is large and has a full glass adjustable height basketball hoop and adequate parking for 8-10 cars. There is also a large playground and snack-bar within walking distance of the home and 3 golf courses within 15 minutes.
Also available for rent is an additional 3 bedroom, one bath loft with living room and wet bar above the garage that sleeps an additional 7 people. More details can be provided upon request.

The Space:
50' Lake frontage accessed just across road. We own 2 other homes next door and each home has a 50' Lake Access and Beach. With 4 bedrooms, 7 beds and a futon, there's plenty of room for relaxing. Each bedroom has its own theme and all beds have quality memory foam mattresses. The upstairs bathroom is the larger of the 2 full bathrooms and offers a full shower /tub setup with a separate water closet to allow for others to get ready to go out or prepare for bed. The main floor is a true open concept that allows not only the fresh air to easily flow through the home but allows your group this same luxury. We've added a large 35' long deck off the back of the home that stretches the entire length of the home. From the deck you'll be able to enjoy your group relaxing by the firepit or grab a chair and watch the large variety of birds, frogs, turtles, ducks, deer and more. We upgraded the game room on this home to offer a larger space to enjoy during early mornings or evenings when you're not swimming/fishing. Driving an electric vehicle..? We have a level 2, 50 amp car charging station on the driveway side of the home for convenient charging. This home has 10 parking spots.

We've tried to solve all of the challenges plaguing lake cottages...

1) They're typically really small in size. Our home is over 1700 sq ft and designed for groups to enjoy both indoor and outdoor living.
2) Parking - We offer comfortable parking for up to 10 vehicles.
3) Cold/Hot spots when heating and cooling - We built our home with 2x6 exterior walls, r-60 attic insulation, low e windows and a well designed, high efficiency hvac system to ensure when you want it warm in the winter or cool in the summer, that's exactly what you get.
4) Water Systems - We installed a brand new well water system as well as an on demand hot water system. That means unlimited hot water for showers!

When renting our lake house you may see other families and have the opportunity for kids to play with others while on your trip.

Lake Cottage located on 500 acre Portage Lake just south of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Our cabin is a clean and cozy two-bedroom wood beam and pine construction where you experience the feel of an up north cabin as soon as you step through the door. The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove with oven, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, Keurig and a regular coffee maker and a complete set of cooking and eating utensils. The dining room table along with the bar stools seat 6. The living room has a comfy couch and recliner with a 50” tv with Netflix and other apps. It is the perfect setting to reminisce about the adventure so far. One private bedroom hosts a cozy, queen size bed. The other is a bunk bed w twin bed on the bottom, with another bunk bed.

Soak in the elements on the screened in porch. The screened porch is the cat-bird seat of the cabin, featuring a comfortable couch, rocking chair and lounging chair, cozy new cushions, and the view from the porch is incredible looking out across Portage Lake.
Enjoy a morning coffee on the front porch and watch the ducks and geese. Watch the birds at the custom birdhouse from the patio overlooking the water while you cook your steak and burgers on the gas barbeque. The side yards are good sized for the kids and dogs to play, but there are neighbor dogs so you have to keep an eye on your dog. The fire pit off the side yard has 6 chairs and sits on a bluff surrounded by pines and oaks overlooking the water. You will need to pick up firewood at a stand down the street but sometimes we do stock it if requested for a longer stay.
If you don’t feel like cooking, take a short cruise to Fisher Lake Tavern for dining out on the Lake, or head to Cowboy Up for line dancing and smoked meats.

Description of Area
Our cabin is located off historic Silver Street just south of Vicksburg and not far from the malls in Portage and 25 miles to Kalamazoo. Our cabin cottage owns frontage on Snug Harbor where we have a private channel with a boat dock. The channel is not good for swimming but if you have a boat, or use our kayaks or canoe, you can access great swimming spots. You can kayak or canoe the many miles of shoreline and streams leading off the lake. Take a short drive into downtown Vicksburg and visit the historic Hideaway Bar and Grill for fantastic food and atmosphere. Or, a short drive away is Fisher Lake Restaurant where you can dine on the patio overlooking the lake. Want to line dance or play cornhole at a cowboy bar? Cowboy Up bar is 12 minutes away. Angels Crossing golf course is a 10 minute drive away.

You can enjoy the ambience of lake life, including boating, fishing, kayaking, cooking smores on the outdoor firepit, or just relaxing on the huge deck with a gorgeous view of the lake. The fishing at the lake is amazing and is filled with a variety of fish, including : Bluegill, Bass, Crappie, Pike, Catfish, Dogfish and Perch. Explore the lake with the two kayaks provided.
The view is absolutely beautiful from the deck overlooking the lake. Enjoy the scenery and beautiful wildlife including geese, ducks, swans, cranes, turtles, and even the occasional Bald Eagle!

There are many restaurants and breweries very close to the lake. The city of Kalamazoo is only 8 miles away with cute stores, restaurants, a few wineries and a distillery. Or travel to Paw Paw for the wineries about 25 miles from the house. - "Couldn't have asked for anything more! First, the communication was amazing! Without hyperbole, I don't think I waited more than an hour at any point for answers to questions or additional information. The property is in a great location. It's cute and well appointed. Pontoon boat is a little older but quite functional for just cruising around the lake. Definitely worth the rental though. Grill was great outside. The internet was speedy enough for some video calls that I needed to take - but I wouldn't try and have 5 people use it at once. One small thing to note (not a complaint but just a note to others) - the fridge is NOT a full size fridge. It's more of a 3/4 size fridge - so be judicious when buying groceries. Otherwise, everything was just great. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again here!"

They provided everything we could need, kitchen was well equipped and there are even baskets of things you may have forgotten, and plenty of games. We especially enjoyed the coffee station and the game room. Our teens and 20-21 year olds all enjoyed the game room and we all fit on the big couch to watch movies. The view of the lake was beautiful. If we were staying for a week, we would want laundry machines, but the owners provided lots of towels, so we could probably make it work. Alsoit was convenient that we could park in the garage. The back yard, fire pit and new deck were very nice, though we didn't get to use them as it was too cold."

I really appreciated the labeling in the kitchen so we weren't constantly guessing about where to find things. The town of Vicksburg also had everything we needed, including a small grocery store and Hungry Howie's pizza (a feature in our college town). There's a giant Meijer just up the road and Kalamazoo was also an easy visit."

Welcome to our lake home on Long Lake in Portage, MI! This cozy retreat is just 15 minutes away from the vibrant city of Kalamazoo. Relax and unwind in our beautifully furnished home, complete with games, toys for kids, and a putting matt. Step outside to your private beach and sandy swim area. Cast a line off the end of the dock, fire up the grill, take the pontoon or kayaks for a cruise, or start a fire in the smokeless solo stove. We can't wait for your family to make memories here!

The open concept main floor features a fully stocked kitchen, spacious living room, and additional sun room complete with a reading nook and large dining table. The main floor bedroom features a king bed and includes a walk-out deck perfect for sipping coffee on in the morning. Bedroom #2 is located upstairs. This space features queen bunk beds and a very comfy futon that folds out into a full size bed. The house sleeps 8. The backyard features a large deck with plenty of seating, a private dock with pontoon (available for rent), and a small beach area perfect for the kiddos. The water is shallow and sandy, making this an ideal swim area for younger kids. You will also find a picnic table, a solo stove, and additional beach toys and rafts for your use. Firewood is stored onsite and can also be purchased for use.

~Other Things to Note~
This home in one of a kind. It was originally built in 1915 as a very small ice house, but has had many additions added over the past few decades. If you are a fisherman, you will find that the catch is plentiful on Long Lake. The kids frequently enjoy catching bluegill right off the end of the dock, so be sure to bring your poles and worms! There is also a volleyball net, beersbie game, and large floating water mat available for water fun in addition to sand toys and rafts.

- "The cottage was perfect fornour family during WMU Homecoming weekend. Cottage was clean, quiet, and roomy. Highly recommend staying there!" - "I recently stayed at Sam’s Lake House, AMAZING with breathtaking views of the lake. The large windows allowed me to fully enjoy the serene winter scenery, as snow fell. Sam was incredibly responsive and went out of her way to ensure my stay went smoothly, even arranging the cleaning crew to expedite their work.Thoughtful touches throughout the house, like the wide variety of games available—even 420 games, though it's important to note that smoking isn't allowed on the property. The check-out instructions were very clear, making the departure process stress-free. I appreciated the ample closet space in the bedroom. The dreamy clawfoot bathtub in the downstairs bathroom was a definite highlight!A few minor details: the upstairs bathroom tub is peeling, and while there’s a slip mat, I did have a slip (which was on me). Also, there is no dishwasher, so be prepared to wash dishes by hand. The refrigerator needs a good deep clean. That said, I never memtioned these to Sam as she was so accommodating these things could have been missed rushing to get me in. Parking was a little tricky with fast-moving cars, and Sam explained the garage wasn’t available due to storage. Things that could have made the stay better: aTV in the downstairs bedroom, warmer blankets, covered awnings for the patios, and a door to go out to the deck instead of the side. 8.9 out of 10!"

Sunset Cottage is located directly on Gourd-neck Lake facing west with stunning Sunset Views. This property is a great place all year round, be it having fun on the lake in the summer, enjoying local vineyards and breweries in the fall, ice fishing and skiing in the winter or watching the trees bloom in the spring. Our lake is connected to another lake that can be accessed by boat and has a beach, hiking trails, dog parks, and playgrounds. Rental of pontoon includes access to Prairie View parks beach and recreational area. Drop off and pick up to the park can be provided via boat for an additional fee froM spring to fall.

Sunset cottage has a bedroom on the main level in addition to a large living room with vaulted ceilings, fireplace and a beautiful bay window overlooking the lake. There is a dining room, half bath, three seasons room, deck and full kitchen. On the main level also. The lower level has two bedrooms full bath a living room with a beautiful bay window looking out onto the lake. This living room has a 46” Apple TV and kitchenette with a midsize fridge, microwave, kuerig coffee maker, 1,000 sq feet of deck with gas and charcoal grill with smoker, outdoor dining area, seating, fire pit.

Welcome to our 2 bedroom 1 bath cottage on Pickeral Lake in Scotts, MI. Quiet 135 acre all sports lake. Our cottage includes 2 kayaks, paddle board, and use of 18ft fish and ski deck style boat with 115hp Mercury outboard. The boat requires insurance of $55 per day but we do not charge for use of the boat.

The our small cottage has 2 bedrooms. One bedroom has 2 queen beds and the other has a full / twin bunk bed. There is one bath with tub/shower. The large bedroom with 2 queens has a smart TV and there's a smart TV in the living area as well.

We want to stress that this is older cottage - complete with uneven floors, narrow hallway and doors, and homeowner type remodeling, not a 5 star hotel. It is, however, clean and neat and a wonderful place to rest and unwind.

The lake itself is fairly quiet with lots of kayakers and pontoons. It's a great lake for bass and bluegill fishing, along with some northern pike. Our beach has some sand up close to shore and fades pretty quickly to lily pads and mud bottom.

The kitchen is stocked with all necessary cooking items and utensils. We have a 12 pot coffeemaker as well as a Keurig. We provide bed and bath linens along with beach towels. There is a washer and dryer as well.

There is a firepit and 8 adirondack chairs facing the lake. The back deck has an outdoor table and 7 chairs.

There is ample parking on site.

The Space:
The spacious living area features a large living room and windows out to the lake views. Unwind out on the deck or inside on the couches, or gather around to watch your favorite sports and shows on the 75" flat-screen.

The kitchen is fully-equipped, offering modern appliances, ample counter space, and all the essential cookware to cook or grill out. Enjoy meals out on the furnished deck with seating for everyone (5 person table + picnic table) and enjoy the serene lake views as your backdrop. *No dishwasher.

Outdoor Space:
Step out onto the large deck and take in the captivating scenery over the 50 feet of sandy shoreline on Austin Lake. Take in the sun on the deck, the private dock or take out the kayaks and canoe to explore or do some large mouth bass fishing.

Great place for family gatherings or extended corporate stays (just message us). We pride ourselves in helping families relocating to to the area to help foster an even better community and make that transition as enjoyable as possible. This is a completely smoke-free property, and no pets are allowed. Please no work vehicles w/o discussing first. Parking includes garage/remote (single vehicle), and 1-2 single lane (smaller) driveway. Neighborhood is zoned single-family. No parking in the yard.

Dedicated office/work space in each Bedroom (extra monitors for the Zoomers), plus a dedicated office/reading room/flex space that opens into the living room and on out to the lake. Laundry Room is included and set to go for your convenience. Towels (bath and beach) and standard toiletries also included.

We continue to make improvements and renovations to the property (particularly some of the outside). Please be careful when traversing the stairs (shorter/some are slightly uneven) and use handrail.

<10 minutes from the nearby shopping, numerous breweries (including Bell's Brewery and Latitude 42), and the AZO Airport and AirZoo. ~15 minutes from downtown Kalamazoo and WMU. Snow skiing resort within 40 minutes. Perfectly located halfway between Chicago/Detroit (with Amtrak service to both ~15 min away)
