Several times we spotted whales at sea, how exiting is that ! Our double bedroom was comfortable, cool and free of mosquitoes due to a good working ceiling fan. Directly accessible form the bedroom, a nice private bathroom with toilet and great shower. A well equipped kitchen is part of the villa. A prepaid 3G mobile WiFi is available to keep in touch with the world thru internet. Casa Lemon is a very special villa managed by very special people. Care and thought has been taken in every detail - from the outside terraces to the bedroom decoration. Maio is a magical island that amazingly seems still untouched by modern day tourism. We spent two weeks with a mix of lying by the pool and exploring the island - this island is for the adventurous though and those who like finding their own way. We personally took three flights to get there - as there is a weekly flight or boat from the main island Praia that takes 15minutes. Patricia was very helpful in giving us help on booking this though and so nothing was an issue. There was also a lovely housekeeper who looked after us and offered home cooked meals delivered to the terrace if requested. The villa was clean and inviting, there are some bugs at night so I would come prepared with mosquito spray :) you will have trouble finding it on the island - and I would say come prepared with essentials as the beauty of Maio is it is limited for tourist shops and big shopping centres! When we stayed the internet had some issues and we didn't find it to be 500mpbs but hopefully you go for a holiday and not to look at emails :). Patricia was very helpful also in trying to get it fixed. We also got confused in the listing that the pool was private just for casa lemon - but it is shared between another villa that Patricia hosts also. This also was not a problem though as the pool area is large enough to share and you won't be disappointed by the view ! Honestly this is a gem of a find, we feel very luck to have stayed and discovered also the magic of Maio. It is worth the journey and we will be back!"

This property is located end of row, forth row from the beachfront and is one of the more private villas.

Its other stand out feature is that it is on the largest, and most spacious of the three in a row Meliá Resorts. It is therefore not overlooked and has gets the sun all day ( as it’s South-facing...so moving to the beach is not necessary when wishing to work on achieving a sun tan ).

It faces towards the amazing Llana Resort and is among some the best located private villas.

Inside the large Melia Dunas complex, the villa is a minute from the amazing beach with sunbeds galore and the a la carte restaurants on site. Also the villa is south facing and you get sun from dawn to dusk with shade by the trees if you want it. The villa sunbeds have cushions and you can get clean beach towels every day from the hotel for a 20 Euro refundable deposit. There are 3 bathrooms in the villa, one for each bedroom and the kitchen has oven, hob, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee machine. The TV is on the hotel system and provides channels in English, German and Portuguese (possibly more). Pictures are accurate of the villa and show that it is value for the money paid. We shopped at the Cruz Supermarket in Santa Maria which is 5 minutes in a taxi (as is all of the town) and ate at the beach bars and across the town. The food in restaurants were excellent with lots of fresh caught fish, prawns and lobster. Meat dishes were good too. Taxi in or out of Santa Maria from/to Melia Dunas is 4 euro in the day and 5 at night."

The resort is great with pools a few mins away and the beach. We paid at the restaurants as all inclusive by the day was a bit much. Situated at the end of a quiet Date Palm lined street and set on 830 SQM of mature enclosed gardens with extensive terraces, balconies and private pool. The house offers four bathrooms and an outside shower.

The kitchen is well equipped with glassware, crockery, pots and cutlery for eight guests. There is a microwave, oven, hob, fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher available. There is also a BBQ available and a range of small appliances such as a coffee maker, kettle, toaster, blender, etc.

The separate dining room, that leads out on to the terrace, offers indoor dining space or can be used as a work desk space if required.

Outside there are plenty of sun beds (x4), loungers (x4), chairs and sofas (x5)to relax on. There is a BBQ available and outside dining tables and chairs (x12).

The villa comes with free wifi on the ground floor. Theres is also a selection of board games, a large TV, IPTV, DVD player and a selection of DVDs, a Bluetooth compatible sound system, games consoles, table football, darts board that guests are welcome to use.

Please note that the cleaning fee charged by this booking site relates to the opening/ set up clean and the property clean after guests leave the property. It does not include any mid stay cleans. For stays of more than one week, bedding and towels are changed weekly. Mid stay cleaning can be arrangeed for an extra charge. Please reqest this service if you want it.

Please note children are welcome but the villa has open stairs, an open outdoor pool and all floor surfaces are tiled. There are hard edges so parents with children need to be aware and take responsibility to supervise their children at all times. There is a small travel cot available on request Please no running on the tiles inside or outside the house by the pool as they become slippery when wet.

The resort
Vila Verde is a large and quiet resort situated between the beaches of Ponta Preta, Kite Beach and just outside Santa Maria town and its large sandy beach. The resort offers a selection of apartment condominiums arranged around large shared pools, pool bars and landscaped gardens. The villas are arranged on quiet private streets on the outer edges of the resort. There are a selection of restaurants and bars available on the resort offering breakfast, lunch, happy hour and dinner options (including takeaway). Opening hours vary depending on time of year. The resort is popular with holiday makers, kite surfers and families working in the area. The team at reception can offer visitors various options for car and bike rental, island tours and other activities. Equally, there are various car hire and excursion operators situated in the town of Santa Maria.

The villa is located at the end of a quiet palm tree lined road on the left hand side perimeter of the resort and overlooks the protected sand dunes between the resort and the town of Santa Maria.

The resort has a staffed and helpful reception office, onsite security and CCTV, a bank with cash machine near reception, a well stocked supermarket offering all your food needs from daily fresh bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, frozen meat, through to a good range of drinks and treats for everybody. There are also two tennis courts available for hire via reception. The inner perimeter road offers a 2km run route for the energetic. Taxis are readily available by reception and there is a daily bus service to Ponta Preta beach (two good bar restaurants there) and Santa Maria (bus passes required).

Santa Maria town
Santa Maria town, in addition to a beautiful long golden sand beach, offers a broad range of supermarkets, shops, restaurants, takeaways and bars to cater for all your requirements and fresh fish, including amazing tuna, is available most mornings from the town pier. Santa Maria is five minutes in a taxi (€4 day time/ €5 evenings) or a 25 minute walk from the house. There is a pharmacy, hospital, private healthcare clinics, churches and banks available in Santa Maria too.

- "Overall, a very well equipped villa, with great facilities. The location is very quiet and the complex was also very quiet during our visit. Excellent shop on the complex and great courtesy transport into Santa Maria. The local beach was easy to walk to and the food at the beach bar was very reasonable. Ian was very attentive and contactable with a couple of issues we experienced. He gave a lot of information in advance, which was useful as we had not visited the island before. My only niggle would be that there is no mid-stay clean when staying for 2 weeks, even though there is a cleaning fee. We receive this service in all other villas that we stay in each year. Also, due to location the outside areas get very dirty, very quickly and I was brushing and mopping every other day at least. Great island to visit, people very friendly and weather very good, with a nice island breeze."

"From the beginning Luke & Heather gave as a lot of useful informations about Lombo Branco, the surroundings, the villa and basically everything we needed to know in order for us to have a relaxing stay. Hetty, the villa manager and Paul (or "Fruta" as he is being called) the gardener, were very helpful and always reachable if we needed something. Paul speaks only Portuguese, but we managed to comprehend each other very well in a mix of French and Spanish. Very nice and pleasant guy that will answer all questions or contact Hetty if something should be unclear. For our arrival and departure Hetty organized the Aluguer, which was very practical for us. We can also highly recommend paying her a visit at her restaurant "Casa Maracuja" in Paúl, approx. 1 to 1 1/2 hours walking distance from Lombo Branco. The meals are very well prepared, the staff very friendly and the walking trip unforgettable. The whole landscapes, walking and hiking paths in Lombo Branco and the neighboring villages Sinagoga and Ribeira Grande are all magnificent and definitely worth of discovering. The villa itself is exactly as depicted in the photos: very clean, very cozy, very quiet; can hardly find something to criticize. The internet speed is the way it is on the whole island, not the fastest but very stable. Not far away from the villa there is a small supermarket, where one can find a basic selection of food, groceries and household needs. The next ATM you'll find is in Ribeira Grande or Paúl; so make sure to have enough escudos for shopping and the Aluguer rides. All in all we are very thankful to Luke & Heather, Hetty and Paul for the wonderful experience that we had in Lombo Branco. "The house is spacious, with a nice balcony overlooking the gardens and ocean. The location is remote and halfway up a mountain. In the morning you will wake up to the sound of birds. The walk/hike to the top of this mountain (1 hr) will take you through sleepy settlements and amazing views. This is a nice hike to warm up the legs. A black sandy beach with waves breaking on the rocks is a short hike away. When the waves are high it is quite dramatic. Other hikes are possible, but you will need to arrange transport If you are looking for a place to let go of stress and wind down, this is it."

- "The location at the beachfront is very nice. The house is good as well. It fits 10 people nicely. It felt a bit strange at first that it's situated in a larger all inclusive resort, because we really don't like these resorts, but luckily it's situated all the way at the outskirt of the resort, so you don't have to see all of that But, the organisation itself there drastically needs to be improved. Due to miscommunication by the staff, there was no pickup from the airport, the house was still a complete mess when we arrived. The kitchen was turned upside down and basically nothing was prepared for our arrival. The kitchen, although it would accommodate 10 people, only had 2 pans. The subsequent communication with the onsite staff was very slow and they did not fix the problems fast All of this can be easily fixed though. Maybe we just came at the wrong time? If they get this fixed, I would recommend it."
