North Transept - part our converted Victorian Gothic church

The North Transept is a self-contained annex of our Victorian Gothic church, The Old Church. The church was built for the local country house estate in the mid 19th century and was deconsecrated in 1980. We have been converting the church since 1988 - it is our family home.

It is located on a small country lane which is no through road so there is very little passing traffic. It is very peaceful with little light pollution making it great for stargazing (except when it’s cloudy!). We are located midway between Chippenham and Devizes, and about 15 minutes from Chippenham mainline railway station. In case you’re worried, the graveyard has been closed to burials for over 30 years! We think it is a very tranquil space with some lovely old headstones and Celtic crosses.

The North Transept has its own private separate step free entrance from the outside into its own lobby which is a good place to leave your coats, shoes and boots. This then opens into the double height North Transept space.

On the ground floor there is:
- a comfortable living and dining area with a sofa, easy chair and a table for two
- a fully equipped kitchen with electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge, kettle, bean-to-cup coffee maker, toaster and plenty of worktop space; there is a full complement of crockery, glassware, cutlery, cookware, cooking utensils
- a bathroom with bath and shower; 'Simple' brand shower gel, shampoo and conditioner are provided

Stairs lead up to a mezzanine which has a comfortable king size bed with hanging space and drawers. At this level there is a large beautiful Gothic window which looks out onto the old graveyard and beyond to open fields.

The whole space has beautifully high ceilings with exposed beams but is warm and cosy with underfloor heating under the stone ground floor.

The North Transept has Wi-Fi, smart TV and an audio system with bluetooth.

There is a small terrace outside the North Transept front door with a table and chairs for the exclusive use of guests.

There is a washing machine and tumble dryer in the laundry room in the main house that guests are welcome to use.

We will welcome you on arrival and take you round to the North Transept where house manual details are available to explain about the space and surroundings. We also provide information on things to do and where to eat locally. There will be someone around or contactable in case of any problems, or to advise you on local amenities or provide any other help.

We provide items so you can make your own continental breakfast – there are: various teas, bean-to-cup coffee maker, sugar, granola, milk, orange juice, sliced bread and croissants In the icebox, preserves and butter.

We have a golden retriever called Taya and and a ragdoll cat called Titan. They are both very friendly and sociable and good with other animals.

The Old Church is set in its own two acres of landscaped gardens with mature trees and shrubs, pond and summer house which guests are free to explore and enjoy. There are lots of lovely places to sit and to make yourself comfortable.

Dogs are welcome. The entire garden perimeter is fenced. With the main gate shut, the property is completely enclosed.

There’s loads of off- street car parking in our drive and parking area. There is a covered area for motorbikes and bicycles.

The North Transept is located in Chittoe a quiet hidden valley with lots of lovely walks directly from the church and many others just a short drive away. It is in hamlet of less than 20 houses and on a no through lane so it's very quiet and peaceful (apart from the sounds of the owls, pheasants and Muntjac deer!).

As well as enjoying the peace of the countryside there are loads of things to do in the area. Nearby are:

Just 5 mile from the National Trust Village of Lacock. The lovely city of Bath easily easily accessible by train.

I can take guests washing to launder in my machine and dry but there is an outdoor line for hanging washing.

There is NOT a barbecue despite saying there is.

This access also leads to our communal games room with full size snooker table, table tennis, and darts which we happily share with our guests and is always open.

New for 2024, we have a a large communal outdoor table and chairs, sun loungers and firepit bbq. This is situated in front of the games room, taking advantage of the beautiful garden vista. An additional space to enjoy whilst using the games room.

In this area is also a large children's climbing frame (one child declared; "Look mummy, a playground!") and a trampoline.

The main pond is stocked with coarse fish! Why not try your hand at some fishing during your stay, you only have to beat the herons, egrets and king fishers to it. Fishing rods are available to borrow.

Domesticated animals on site. Our own dogs (who are enclosed in our private garden, unless in the wider gardens with the family). We also have Ducks, Geese and Chickens who reside on and around the main pond.

Finally, the farmhouse comes with the latest mod cons including integrated Bang & Olfuson music system, as well as SMART TVs & WiFi throughout. There are also plenty of games and DVDs which guests are free to enjoy.

Double room in central Chippenham, 2 minutes walk from the railway station, with direct line to Bath (10 minutes), Bristol (20 minutes) and good links for the airport, Swindon (12 minutes), Oxford, and London only 1 hour and 12 minutes with trains running every half hour.

Also buses to local villages such as Castle Combe and Lacock (Harry Potter), and not far from the Avebury stone circles with good public transport.

Being in the town centre, all the shops, restaurants, and takeaways are a minutes’ walk away. There's also a cinema around the corner.

Chippenham has a beautiful river and lovely parks

Parking is free on the near by streets from 6pm till 8am, and two hours any time during the day. Weekends is free..
Paid parking is 5 pounds per day.on a parking place going to the station, very close by.

The bathroom with power-shower just for guest use as I got my own bathroom,
I am happy to share my kitchen with guest and if they like I can also cook and share my cooking with them I enjoy cooking and baking and guest are welcome to eat what I cook

The room is on the top floor, very light and warm,
The Pub next door is being refurbish and will change management so I hope the weekend late noise nights we had in the past will stop

The kitchen is well equipt with a small washing machine and dishwasher which my guest can use

During your stay
I am retired so I do not have a fixed routine on my daily life, but I am busy, I can give my guest as much or as little of my time as they like, I am always happy to help them with planning their day tours.

Paid parking is 5 pounds per day on a parking place going to the station, very close by.

A cheaper parking per day or weeks also near the station and can be booked on line.

The space
A spacious, open-plan and quiet apartment located just off the main street of Chippenham. Situated just across the road from Chippenham railway station, with direct line to Bath (10 mins), Bristol (25m), London (1h15m) etc, and buses to local villages such as Castle Combe and Lacock (Harry Potter).

Between the ceiling and the apartment above there is 2 feet of sound insulation, including an independent ceiling, making this apartment very quiet and cosy.

All food found in the apartment is available for use and I welcome guests to leave food if they wish.

Being in the town centre, all the shops, restaurants, and take-aways are a minutes walk away. Sainsbury's supermarket (open till 11pm), Waitrose (8pm) and Tesco (10pm) are just around the corner. Lots of pubs and also a cinema too.

Park with lots of open space, children's playground and a basketball court is located just down the hill from the flat. Also a golf course and gym which offers pay by the day and classes.

The ideal location and accommodation for a weekend get away or as a holiday base to explore the area.

This is a quirky loft conversion that has everything you need for a comfortable stay. You have access to a small balcony and are welcome to use a shared garden area with bench or stroll in our paddock.Please note we do have 2 friendly dogs that are loose when we are at home.

PLEASE NOTE YOU WILL NEED A CAR to stay in our property as it’s very rural with the nearest shop 3 miles away and the village is a mile away . There are no street lights or pavements and public transport is very limited.

Additional guests: there is a 120cm wide sofabed (a bit tight for 2 adults) in the lounge, and a 135cm wide mezzanine double bed for upto 4 extra guests to sleep. There is also a second bathroom, so less waiting for the shower!

Parking is free on the street from 4pm till 10am, and all day Sunday. There are also various paid parking options, including one space at the property (this is prioritised for guests with mobility needs), please enquire if needed.

The Hideaway Loft with pool, gym and yoga classes

The Hideaway is nestled in the Wiltshire countryside on a four acre smallholding near to the foothills of Roundway Down.
It is a self-contained 1st floor studio, adjacent to the hosts property, surrounded by sheep, donkeys, dogs, chickens, a pony and large African tortoise.
The opportunity to feed the lambs during springtime can be arranged.
*Guests are welcome to use the family pool during the summer months (June-September) and the gym. Onsite yoga classes can be arranged after booking.

The space
The Hideaway is self-contained on the first floor with its own entrance, accessed via an external staircase. This access allows guests to come and go as they please.
The Hideaway was designed and built in 2019 by the hosts and is modern, light and airy. It benefits from an open plan design with a separate bathroom with shower cubical.

Sleeping arrangements are flexible. The super king bed can be separated to provide two single beds. In addition to this, there is a small double sofa bed (4 ft wide) suitable for 2 children or 1 adult. Travel cot available for 0-2 yr olds.

The kitchenette is modern with a fridge, microwave, induction hot plate, kettle, Nespresso Coffee Machine and toaster for guests to prepare breakfast and small meals should they wish to do so.

The Hideaway is set with in the beautiful Wiltshire Countryside with easy access to the M4.
The Hideaway is located within the Village of Bromham and is within walking distance of a fantastic local pub, Indian restaurant and Bromham Cider Farm.
Bromham boasts a village Butchers, selling local produce and essential groceries, in addition to a well-stocked Farm Shop with an abundance of local produce.

Homemade Afternoon Tea and Picnic Boxes are available to purchase, on request (48 hours notice is needed for these).

The Hideaway is a short, scenic drive to the renowned National Trust village of Lacock; a historic village and popular film location.
Castle Combe, Avebury Stones, Bath, Stonehenge, Longleat, GWR Steam Museum and Swindon Designer Outlet are all close by.
Alternatively you can relax at the Hideaway, whilst watching the animals, surrounded by beautiful countryside.

Within walking distance, there is a bus stop that can take you to the market towns of Devizes and Chippenham.

The Hideaway is ideally located for country walks and bicycle routes. One of which being Roundway Hill, that is accessible just a short walk along the lane.
Bicycle repairs and maintenance is available from “The Bike Shed Wiltshire” which is located on the premises.

The Goat Shed- a new, charming entire rental suite

Newly renovated with many luxury touches; an exclusive property in the beautiful Cotswold village of Marshfield. Hidden away with off street parking for 2 cars with EV charging, private access, and surrounding walled driveway gardens, the Goat Shed boasts a tranquil secluded base to explore the local area. With underfloor heating throughout, digital shower with 2 heads, Netflix and Disney+, and many brand new fittings the Goat Shed can comfortably accommodate a family of 4 on a single level.

The space
The main double french window entrance leads to the lounge and kitchen area. There is a corner sofa bed that converts to a double bed (If you are a booking of two, please do let me know ahead of the booking if you need additional bedding for the sofa bed). There is a 4K 40 inch Samsung TV with streaming services (iPlayer, itv-hub, All 4, Netflix, and Disney plus) and a dining table with 2 chairs (2 more are available in the corner sofa storage)

The kitchen area holds a sink cabinet with bin, dishwasher, 4 hob induction stove, fridge (with ice box), and a 3/4 size oven with combination microwave and fan assisted convection oven. Overhead cupboards store all pots and pans and crockery/ glasses. All the kitchen and appliances are brand new.

A door leads onto the bathroom that has a large non slip walk in shower area. The digital shower has dual heads and push button controls are both internal and external to the shower allowing guests to preheat the shower without that burst of cold water - how did we ever live! (There is also a large 210 litre unvented hot water tank providing lots of pressure for the shower) The bathroom sink is full size and nestles in a real oak top, with mirror on the wall above.

The large bedroom has a king-size oak framed bed, with a memory mattress, oak bedside tables, a large oak wardrobe, chest of drawers and a sofa with side table. Oak framed french windows lead out to the patio area with a teak garden table and parasol.

Smart underfloor heating is provided throughout the property for a luxurious feel; fast 50+Mbps private dedicated wifi is on hand, as well as Amazon Alexa, and Firestick on the TV.

Outside the property a beautiful, large apple tree dominates a limestone chipping drive, sided with deep planters against dry stone walls on one side, and an open fenced view across the owners private orchard on another. The drive, with parking space for 2 cars is then completed with 2 large double gates that shut the property off from the quiet Back Lane. There is also a picket gate leading through to the owners house, which has been carefully screened with trellis and climbing plants to ensure The Goat Shed is not overlooked.

Private pedestrian and vehicular access to the Goat Shed is through the double gates from Back Lane direct onto the rental driveway which can comfortably accomodate 2 cars. Marshfield has 2 excellent pubs, a shop selling fresh food and local produce, a tea shop and a post office - all within a 2 minute walk from the property. There are also a fantastic number of excellent walks, as well as some world famous local villages to explore on the doorstep

Other things to note
James and Alice warmly welcome you to the Goat Shed, and are available for all queries and advice around local attractions and things to do. The Goat Shed is also equipped with a virtual digital concierge service to help support your stay. Please note that for our longer stay guests, we can provide a key to access a sink, washing machine and tumble dryer independantly through an external side door.
