There is an escalator up (but not down) to the Martim Moniz station which is extremely welcome at the end of the day. I would only have one criticism for which they can't do much about. Lisbon is a difficult city for anyone with mobility issues anyways, but the only warning I would give to others is that it's an older building and is 4 flights of stairs up, so if you have strollers or a ton of luggage this might not be the right choice for you ( although they seem to have apartments on other floors which I'm sure you could request). - "The apartment, the location, the cleanliness, the equipment and the service. The main entrance and the stairway." - "Myself and two friends (all adults) stayed in this apartment for 4 nights. We loved it! The rooms are spacious and clean with a rack to hang your clothing. Beds are comfy with great pillows. There is no AC, but we did not mind at all and there is a mobile fan for each room and the living room. We loved opening the windows and balcony doors to let in the breeze (during our late May visit). I do think they could use some door stops since there was A LOT of door slamming due to to the cross breezes when the windows/balcony door were open. The location is perfect for exploration and close to many sites as well as a convenient grocery store. The kitchen is well stocked. The living room is comfy and there is a decent sized dining table. My favorite part were the balconies on two of the rooms as well as the larger balcony off the living room with a beautiful view. I could spend all day on that balcony! The only downside was that although the listing states there are two toilets, there is ONLY ONE TOILET (just two showers/sink rooms). That didn't bother a group of three women, but I imagine if you had any many more people, it would be difficult to share one toilet. I also love how easy it was to communicate with the renters and the way we could use our phones to unlock the doors. Overall, highly recommend and would definitely stay here again!!"

The neighborhood

The apartment is fully renovated, located in the historic center of the city, literally 1 minute from the metro, in Mouraria / Martim Moniz Square, right next to the first stop of the 28A Tram, one of the biggest attractions of the city! Mouraria is one of the most historical and multicultural places in Lisbon, where "FADO" was born around 1820 - the most famous and internationally recognized current fado singer ("fado singer"), Mariza, was born here!

Mouraria is a very safe area, known for its history and ancient traditions, where a fusion of different cultures takes place, with many excellent restaurants with typical Portuguese cuisine, African and Asian food, as well as activities such as live music in Praça Martim Moniz. You are within walking distance (15 minutes) of the Castle, (5-10 minutes) Baixa-Chiado (city center), (15 minutes) Bairro Alto and Bica (where nightlife happens), Rio Tejo, ) Alfama (5 min), etc.
At the end of your day, you will surely be just minutes away from the comfort of your home!

- By Metro - Martim Moniz Station (25 min): at the airport, take the red line towards "São Sebastião", and change in "Alameda" to the green line towards "Cais Sodré". - "This large, thoughtfully-furnished and comfortable apartment was perfect for our 1-week stay in Lisbon. The communication with the owners was excellent, and we were personally welcomed at the apartment and oriented, with numerous suggestions about places to visit and eat in the area and elsewhere in Lisbon. A nice bottle of red wine was provided. We received periodic messages from them checking to see if things were ok and offering additional ideas about things to do. They even contacted us on the day we checked out to see if we needed them to hold our bags for the day. The mattress is firm; we found it very comfortable and slept great, but those accustomed to memory foam might find it too firm for their liking. Kitchen is well furnished with utensils and dishware, but could use a couple more pots and pans. Coffee, tea, spices, oil and vinegar are provided. We received a nice bottle of wine on arrival. The dishwasher racks were missing some wheels and the utensil basket had holes in the bottom; one stove burner didn't work. Everything else worked well and the apartment seems generally well maintained. The location is 2 blocks from the Martim Moniz Metro and close to several tram and bus stops, so it's easy to get where you want to go. The area is not as heavily touristed as Alfama, Chiado, etc, and has a lot of ethnic character (largely African and South Asian). This was fine for us, but those who want to be in a main tourist area may be uncomfortable (we never felt unsafe). Street litter was pretty heavy, too, but we did not see any homeless, which we certainly did in other, more trendy areas of Lisbon. The streets are noisy during the day, and conversations and passing vehicles are easily heard even with the windows closed, but things do quiet down considerably at night, as there's little in the way of night life on the street. That said, if a truck goes by at 2 am or someone passing on the street is having a conversation, you are going to hear it, as the street is narrow and reverberant. For those with mobility issues, be aware it's a steep climb on narrow cobbled streets from the Metro, and one flight up narrow stairs to the apartment with no lift option. (This is pretty typical for Lisbon.) Also, the bathroom tub lip is very high, and one of us who had had hip replacement couldn't get in or out of it; no problem as long as you're flexible. Overall, we were happy with our stay and would return in the future."

- "We wanted a place in the old town to experience the local culture rather than being in a hotel full of tourists, and this beautiful but small apartment was just perfect for our trip, very clean and tidy and had everything we needed, only a small walk from the metro which was good as we travelled from airport by train which was roughly about 40 mins, The local area is a bit run down which we was expecting but only added to the authenticity of old Lisbon, the main tourist areas are within a 10 min walk or just jump on trams,buses,train and you can buy a travel ticket which you can top up and use on all transportation, there is a lovely vegan restaurant under the apartment which serves some of the finest food, especially the portobello burger which was so tasty and lovely local organic wines, definitely worth a visit, we went to belem which was lovely also took a train to sintra too. So overall we had a lovely stay. The only thing I would say is if your of the big size you will not fit in the shower or the toilet as it's very small and tight. Also we ventured into an area to the right of apartment looking for a restaurant we found on Google and found ourselves walking up a street that was not nice and my wife was frightened as there was a lot of immigrant men standing around, staring at us and we soon realised we was in the wrong part of town and quickly made our way back to rossio where it is much better, but this has nothing to do with the apartment just thought I would give other travellers a head's up. Like every other city Lisbon also has it's good areas and it's bad ones too, so don't go right at Martim moniz. Other then that we had a pleasant stay so thank Manuel."

- June 13th is Saint Anthony's day (Lisbon city holiday) and so it is a time of festivities, with traditional parties in the streets all over Lisbon until dawn, mainly in the oldest and most historical neighborhoods. The neighborhoods of Alfama and Castle (where the apartment is) are one of the main sites of these festivities, with music, dancing, food, and hundreds of people in the streets. These festivities usually take place over a whole week, but mostly on the weekends before and after the 13th, and also on the night of the 12th to 13th of June. Our apartment has soundproof double-glazed windows, but on these days it could be noisier than usual.

- We prepare the house with all our care, attention to detail and tailored to our guests. We ask you to look after it with the same care and in the best way possible.

- Respect the neighbours not making too much noise, especially after 10 pm.

The steep streets of Alfama, one of Lisbon’s oldest areas, are lined with shops selling traditional crafts and cafes. Passengers pack the historic no. 28 tram, which winds through Alfama on its way up to 11th-century São Jorge Castle. Views from Miradouro da Graça terrace stretch over the city to the River Tagus. Just mind your head going up. Location is very close to where the sightseeing trams (12 and 28) start, and a short walk further to the city tour buses. The Rossi train station is also nearby so it makes a side trip to Sintra easy. There are a few mini convenience stores very close for food and beverages but we would recommend going back to Martim Moniz Square (5 minutes walk) and get things at Continente. "

The neighborhoods of Alfama and Castle (where the apartment is) are one of the main sites of these festivities, with music, dancing, food, and hundreds of people in the streets. These festivities usually take place over a whole week, but mostly on the weekends before and after the 13th, and also on the night of the 12th to 13th of June. Our apartment has soundproof double-glazed windows, but on these days it will be noisier than usual. However, this is a very special time in Lisbon and it is worth joining the party :-).

- Respect the neighbours not making too much noise, especially after 10 pm.
