- "We weren’t going to be there long bc we had a very busy weekend in Boston, really just needed a comfortable place for our family of 5 to stay that didn’t cost an arm and a leg, we had space to spread out, and was safe. The host was very very quick to arrive when we got there and it was really warm (they were experiencing a heat wave) and he quickly hooked up the bedroom air conditioning units which was a blessing. We had a rental car bc Boston was just one stop on a 2-week vacation through New England, so we just drove into the city and used ParkWiz app to plan parking, it was a pretty straight-shot."

It is on the first floor of a 1920's vintage 2 family home that is conveniently located on the MBTA Red Line and minutes from downtown Boston and Cambridge. If I were to go back, I’d take more groceries as the small fridge was just enough for a weekend trip. I would consider the rental again. The apartment is the right half of a duplex, and has three floors plus a washer/dryer and storage in an unfinished basement. Laundry detergent, dryer sheets, and a laundry basket are provided for ease of travel and use.

The first floor has a half bath, an open concept full kitchen and dining area, and a large living room featuring a 55” flat screen TV and a working electric fireplace. The kitchen has a large refrigerator, gas stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave, and is well stocked with all the cookware and and space required to create whatever delightful meal you desire.

The second floor has three well appointed bedrooms with a total of 4 beds and room for up to 7 to sleep, as well as a full bathroom, fully stocked with towels, shampoo/conditioner/body wash, and other essentials. One of the bedrooms has a twin over full bunk bed for kids or for adventurous adults, in a room themed for arboreal relaxation with its tree painted walls. All beds have freshly laundered linens and comforters for a peaceful night sleep.

The third floor is a finished and cozy converted attic with a large desk for remote work, plus a comfortable futon sofa and TV as an alternate living room or sleeping space. High speed WiFi is available throughout the apartment.

There is a small unlocked front entry area and a similar but locked area in the back that works as a mud room. The backyard is spacious for children to play but is shared between apartments.

Our neighborhood in South Grafton (historically known as Farnumsville) is one of several mill villages in central MA, all created between 1900-1920, built to house the mill workers and create close knit communities around whatever the mill was producing in that area. In our village, while our mill is long disappeared, and our neighborhood is now filled with all sorts of folks, we still have the same sense of community, where treating neighbors kindly and maintaining a pleasant and safe place to live ranks among the most important priorities. Never an evening goes by where people are not out for a stroll with friends, walking their dogs, or having a jog up and around the streets. There is a small park at the end of the road with a playground and a large field, and a small river park to explore just adjacent to our street off the main road.

This apartment is central to all that the area has to offer. Locally, we are 8-10 minutes from a three grocery stores, multiple convenience stores and gas stations, and delicious restaurants. We are a short drive away from walkable Millbury Center, which has a historic movie theater, brewery, great restaurants, and the best wings in the area. The famous Shrewsbury Street row of restaurants in Worcester is also 20 minutes away, as are other many attractions in Worcester. The “T” station that goes into Boston is a 15 minute drive, and to travel to the city by car is 60 minutes to the east. Providence is a 40 minute drive to the southeast and has its own rich tapestry of attractions as well.

TO NOTE:

There are certain quirks that come with a 100 yr old building.
- The basement, where the laundry is, is an unfinished but clean space. Those with mobility issues may have difficulty accessing the laundry.
- The heating in the apartment is uneven and bedrooms can have a chill even when the downstairs is cozy and warm. A space heater is provided for the third floor as no vents reach that space. In the summer, window air conditioning units are provided for all living spaces.
- The apartment itself is half a duplex, and shares a wall with a currently empty second half, which will be under light construction for the months of February and early March. We are offering these months at a discounted rate with the understanding that there may be occasional but not excessive noise disruptions during this time.

The apartment is the right half of a duplex, and has three floors plus a washer/dryer and storage in an unfinished basement. Laundry detergent, dryer sheets, and a laundry basket are provided for ease of travel and use.

The first floor has a half bath, an open concept full kitchen and dining area, and a large living room featuring a 55” flat screen TV and a working electric fireplace. The kitchen has a large refrigerator, gas stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave, and is well stocked with all the cookware and and space required to create whatever delightful meal you desire.

The second floor has three well appointed bedrooms with a total of 4 beds and room for up to 7 to sleep, as well as a full bathroom, fully stocked with towels, shampoo/conditioner/body wash, and other essentials. One of the bedrooms has a twin over full bunk bed for kids or for adventurous adults, in a room themed for arboreal relaxation with its tree painted walls. There is a small unlocked front entry area and a similar but locked area in the back that works as a mud room. The backyard is spacious for children to play but is shared between apartments.

Our neighborhood in South Grafton (historically known as Farnumsville) is one of several mill villages in central MA, all created between 1900-1920, built to house the mill workers and create close knit communities around whatever the mill was producing in that area. In our village, while our mill is long disappeared, and our neighborhood is now filled with all sorts of folks, we still have the same sense of community, where treating neighbors kindly and maintaining a pleasant and safe place to live ranks among the most important priorities. Never an evening goes by where people are not out for a stroll with friends, walking their dogs, or having a jog up and around the streets. There is a small park at the end of the road with a playground and a large field, and a small river park to explore just adjacent to our street off the main road.

This apartment is central to all that the area has to offer. Locally, we are 8-10 minutes from a three grocery stores, multiple convenience stores and gas stations, and delicious restaurants. We are a short drive away from walkable Millbury Center, which has a historic movie theater, brewery, great restaurants, and the best wings in the area. The famous Shrewsbury Street row of restaurants in Worcester is also 20 minutes away, as are other many attractions in Worcester. The “T” station that goes into Boston is a 15 minute drive, and to travel to the city by car is 60 minutes to the east. Providence is a 40 minute drive to the southeast and has its own rich tapestry of attractions as well.

The property is conveniently located in a commercial district so guests can get around local dining and shopping centers without a car. It is right across from several restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores and services. There is also a bike trail within walking distance.

Half way up the hill, enjoy a private artsy experience at this small apartment on the ground floor of my home. You have complete privacy with your own entrance and use of the front garden. It is so quiet and a 5 mins walk to Village… local transportation and the fabulous restaurant/Antique store Pleasant and Main and great finds at Dianne's Basement too. There is a great hill for jogging up and steps up to the house. 10 mins by car or bus from Great Barrington.

You enter from the garden into a porch then the living room/kitchen . There are three doors, one to the beautiful period bathroom the other into the office and the third into the main bedroom. The bedroom and living room/kitchen look out into the front garden.

Park your car in the back garden parking at the top of the hill and walk down over the grass through the back garden round to your door. Or take the private road down to the bottom steps. Your door is the second one if you take this route. A Rotin couche is in the porch infront of your door

Other things to note
It is not suitable for big dogs. If your dog is under 20 pounds and well behaved then they are welcome. In Winter you will need great boots and to park your car at the bottom of the private hill near the bins as the private hill is not cleared of snow. There are steps and a hill so it is not for the faint hearted only those used to moving around in snow should think about this location.

Homeport - Private apartment suite which includes a den, two 2nd floor comfortable bedrooms and 1.5 private bathrooms. For pub/grill dining we suggest Hale Street Tavern (a local favorite) just across the street. Additional nearby dining options are in Manchester-by the Sea, Beverly and Salem.
We also suggest spending time at nearby Beaches (like Singing Beach or Dane St. Beach) or take a day trip along the Essex County Coastal Bi-way to explore Salem, Manchester by the Sea, Gloucester, Essex and Rockport. If Boston is of interest, the MBTA commuter train (45 min trip ) avoiding traffic and parking expenses. There is alsoa seasonal MBTA commuter ferry from Salem to Boston (60 min trip).

You have permission to use the barbeque grill outside and the sitting area on the front porch. You will have the use of WIFI; the download speed is around 4 Mbps and the upload speed is around 1.5 Mbps; the password will be in the apartment. There is a full-size, coin-operated washer and dryer in the basement that you will be allowed to use. To utilize the train system most effectively, you may want to download the “Transit App” from the PlayStore or AppStore; it is fully integrated with the MBTA and has an awesome GPS feature.

Other things to note
This is a quiet family neighborhood, close to the city. However, this is not a place for loud music or any parties, so please keep the noise down especially at night. The owner has a unit on the property. This is a great place to stay if you are attending graduations, weddings, events, conferences, or family/friend functions. Getting to Fenway Park and to the many highlights Boston has to offer is a MUST. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, as well as super markets to stock up some of your favorite foods. Our favorite restaurants in the area are Bamboo, Olivardi, and Del Frisco’s Grill. There are several high end stores in Legacy Place, which is less than 5 minutes away by car. Please take your shoes off and leave them in the tray outside of the apartment; the area rugs are all brand new and we would like to keep them in great condition. If you have trash that you would like to dispose of, there are receptacles throughout the apartment, if they get full, there is a small dumpster for trash outside on the premises.

The space
The apartment has 1200 square feet of living space and is on the second floor of recently renovated home. The open kitchen includes an island, brand new gas range, microwave and refrigerator as well as all the cookware and utensils you need to prepare the meals you'd make at home. Help yourself to the bottled water in the fridge as well as to the teas and coffee K-cups.

The living room has a 65" smart tv with access to Netflix and YouTube TV. It's on an adjustable wall mount, so angle it towards the kitchen to watch the news while eating dinner, or back towards the sofa when you are stretched out binge-watching your favorite show. Download the Sonos app and play your music through the speaker on the entertainment center.

The dining room has a table for sit down meals or spreading out and working. The fireplace, while an attractive architectural detail, does not work.

The master bedroom has a king size bed and a sunny sitting area, perfect for relaxing with a hot beverage and good book. The TV is also on an adjustable wall mount and can be angled towards the bed or sitting area.

The second bedroom has a full size bed and its own closet. The third room serves as a study with its own private workspace and fast internet (130 Mbps download / 30 Mbps upload) or bedroom with a full size sleeper sofa and comfortable memory foam mattress.

The space
With south facing windows that stream light, the first floor houses the cooking, dining, and television spaces. Laundry and a half bath are also located on this floor. The second floor holds the three bedrooms, which provide privacy to relax away from the common areas. Each bedroom is furnished with comfortable mattresses, pillows, and linens. The primary bedroom has a connected office with workspace and a television, overlooking the yard and river. A full bath finishes out this floor. Outdoor spaces have lounges, chairs, an umbrella, tables, and a gas grill to enjoy all times of day or night. A portable fire pit with firewood is also available to enjoy.

Besides full access to the private living space, guests have access to the entire yard and river front, which lies beyond a fence that screens the two sides of the duplex.
