I did not like the lack of information such as the restaurant being a .7 km walk from the cabin along a rough pathway with no shade. The .7 km walk back from the restaurant is all uphill. There are signs that point down to the restaurant but there are few signs that point to the cabin area or to reception so you need to walk around to find the signs. This is not conducive to people with mobility issues. If we had not been met at the lower cable car station upon our arrival, we would not have been able to easily find our cabin and since we were not given a key we would not have been able to get in to the cabin. The cabin was nicely equipped with a kettle and drip coffee pot but bring your own teabags and coffee. The restaurant does not open for breakfast until 9 AM. There are no vending machines. We did pre-order food for an evening meal but we did not realize that the walk to the restaurant was such a long distance. To have your food delivered to your cabin is five Euro but it was not explained whether you pay an additional five Euro to have someone come and get the pots. (There was no disposable containers). With the cable car service stopping at 6 PM, we found that this destination was more of a hassle than it was an enjoyment. The restaurant area is the only place with any activity."

- "When we arrived, Pedro met us and gave us a tour of the complex and our apartment. My partner is a chef so Pedro took time showing us what they grew onsite and to help ourselves to anything. The reason we booked Villa Brava was because of the beautiful views, the pictures of the apparements looked ok and basic but we weren’t bothered about that. When we saw everything, the views were breathtaking and the apartment was fantastic and much better than the pictures portray. We stayed on the ground floor appartment and you had your own private garden area with just the view in front. There was a hairdryer (with a plug by the mirror!) towels, the kitchen was also really well equipped. We needed an iron and Pedro brought us one straight away. You would definitely need a car for this property as the nearest supermarket was 5 min drive, Pedro also tells you the best one! The hills are REALLY steep but there is parking onsite. I would highly recommend these apartments to anyone seeking a relaxing self catering holiday."

- "After initial hiccups (arrival messages hadn’t got through) we were met by a charming property manager who showed us around (and alerted us to the Christmas festival bangs we would hear in the early mornings). The flat was well located for local bus services and shops, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location was windy (because of the funnel effect of the valley) and the sound of the river was ever present, but the south facing balcony was sheltered pleasant. For fans of football the northern balcony and kitchen gave a very good view of the local football pitch. The kitchen was well appointed although the pans were rather large for two people and the gas oven has no grill. The showers were good and the bathrooms have bidets. "

Solar dos Reis is located in the west of the island (the area with the most sun exposure in Madeira), in the parish of Tabua, municipality of Ribeira Brava, in an area bordering the municipality of Ponta do Sol.
Explore some of the interests closest to the house, such as the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Chapel. This chapel was a reconstruction of the old chapel of the same name, destroyed in the flood of 1696. Next door to the house is also the famous Levada Nova, where you can explore on foot and enjoy the breathtaking views of the western part of Madeira Island. Close to the House there is also a link to Paul da Serra via a dirt road, which you can take a jeep ride on, where you can explore for a more extreme experience.
There are other tourist attractions to explore during your stay at Solar dos Reis: the Miradouro do Espigão, Ribeira Brava (viewpoint), MUDAS - Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Madeira (Calheta), Ponta do Sol beach, Madeira Ethnographic Museum (Ribeira Brava) and more.
Funchal is about a 20-minute drive from the Solar dos Reis.

The best option to get to the property will be the transfer. Ask us to book one with our local partners. It is cheaper than the taxis you find at the airport.
If you rent a car, any navigation app can easily find the address.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS
- According to Portuguese law, all guests are required to present a valid ID. (passport or identity card).
- Check-in hour must be scheduled in advance. If it is not scheduled within a maximum of 48 hours before, guests will be subject to the availability of our team.
- All bed linen and towels are provided. We can also put a baby cot, a high chair and a baby bath if needed, but you should request. There are a first aid kit, extinguishers and fire blanket in the property.

- "A spacious and comfortable apartment that has everything you need for a pleasant stay for a (larger) family and also allows some privacy if it is rented by, for example, two or three couples or a group of friends. Many balconies, an elevator and a parking space in the garage are an added value. If you are ready to cook something yourself, you have a well-equipped kitchen, there is a large grocery store nearby, and you have a large selection of fruits and vegetables at the nearby farmer's market. However, if you prefer to eat out, there are several restaurants within walking distance. The goal of our visit was to explore this beautiful island, which did not disappoint. The location of the apartment provides an excellent starting point for this, as Ribeira Brava is located in the middle of the southern part of the island, which allows easy and quick access to all parts of the island. The hosts were very caring, professional and cooperative. The apartment fully met our expectations and contributed to the wonderful week we spent in Madeira. And we will be happy to come back again."
