I did not like the lack of information such as the restaurant being a .7 km walk from the cabin along a rough pathway with no shade. The .7 km walk back from the restaurant is all uphill. There are signs that point down to the restaurant but there are few signs that point to the cabin area or to reception so you need to walk around to find the signs. This is not conducive to people with mobility issues. If we had not been met at the lower cable car station upon our arrival, we would not have been able to easily find our cabin and since we were not given a key we would not have been able to get in to the cabin. The cabin was nicely equipped with a kettle and drip coffee pot but bring your own teabags and coffee. The restaurant does not open for breakfast until 9 AM. There are no vending machines. We did pre-order food for an evening meal but we did not realize that the walk to the restaurant was such a long distance. To have your food delivered to your cabin is five Euro but it was not explained whether you pay an additional five Euro to have someone come and get the pots. (There was no disposable containers). With the cable car service stopping at 6 PM, we found that this destination was more of a hassle than it was an enjoyment. The restaurant area is the only place with any activity."

- "When we arrived, Pedro met us and gave us a tour of the complex and our apartment. My partner is a chef so Pedro took time showing us what they grew onsite and to help ourselves to anything. The reason we booked Villa Brava was because of the beautiful views, the pictures of the apparements looked ok and basic but we weren’t bothered about that. When we saw everything, the views were breathtaking and the apartment was fantastic and much better than the pictures portray. We stayed on the ground floor appartment and you had your own private garden area with just the view in front. There was a hairdryer (with a plug by the mirror!) towels, the kitchen was also really well equipped. We needed an iron and Pedro brought us one straight away. You would definitely need a car for this property as the nearest supermarket was 5 min drive, Pedro also tells you the best one! The hills are REALLY steep but there is parking onsite. I would highly recommend these apartments to anyone seeking a relaxing self catering holiday."

- "After initial hiccups (arrival messages hadn’t got through) we were met by a charming property manager who showed us around (and alerted us to the Christmas festival bangs we would hear in the early mornings). The flat was well located for local bus services and shops, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location was windy (because of the funnel effect of the valley) and the sound of the river was ever present, but the south facing balcony was sheltered pleasant. For fans of football the northern balcony and kitchen gave a very good view of the local football pitch. The kitchen was well appointed although the pans were rather large for two people and the gas oven has no grill. The showers were good and the bathrooms have bidets. "

Leaving the airport take the motorway (Via Rápida) in the direction of Funchal and after this, signs to Ribeira Brava.

When you reach the end of the motorway (approximately 25 minutes) follow the signs to Ribeira Brava – Ponta do Sol.
The sliproad ends on a roundabout - take the 1st exit and you will be descending in the direction of the sea.

When reaching the next roundabout turn right into the tunnel, sign-posted Ponta do Sol.
At the roundabout, take the third exit signposted Continente Modelo/StartUP Madeira.
Carry on to Rua de São Pedro and as soon as you reach a T-junction, turn left into Rua Juvenal Sousa Pereira and then turn into the first entrance on your right.
Continue on this road until you reach a roundabout, where you should take the first exit, signposted Ribeira Brava.

- "Daniel and Luisa are amazing hosts. Very warm, open from the beginning, always there to help you. Great accomodation, well designed, very well equiped kitchen for everybody to use and on top of that an amazing breakfast every morning, a rare combo and excellent if you dont want to eat out all the time. The best thing of this place was the slowing down, the quietness, its literaly the last village in the valley, so it feels very local and not a lot of people passing by. It was such a great feeling everyday after our excursions to know that we were coming home to such a pleasurable environment. And having the hot tub there made it even better. My space is a very large space, which consists of a bathroom and a bedroom. In the bedroom, right at the entrance, there is a small desk with a chair, a small two-seater sofa, a coat rack, a dresser, two bedside tables, a double bed, a wardrobe and a work table with a chair and a TV. A room with plenty of space. Everyone loves it for the space it has, 30 square meters. It has very good WIFI. Transportation from the airport to Ribeira Brava is €50.

My apartment is a 3 bedroom located in the village of Ribeira Brava, 15 minutes from the beach on foot. It is very well located, as it has a bus stop right next door, a supermarket, pharmacy, clinics, and cafes. It is a 15-minute drive from the city of Funchal, 5 minutes from the village of Ponta de Sol, 10 minutes from Calheta. There are beaches and mountains and many hikes nearby.
