Our holiday flat is located around 150 metres above the lake in the popular holiday resort of Vira (Gambarogno) at the eastern end of Lake Maggiore, just before the border with Italy. The famous Swiss holiday resorts of Locarno and Ascona are within sight and only a stone's throw away by car. The idyllic villages of the Riviera del Gambarogno with romantic Ticino houses in winding alleyways and numerous beautiful beaches are also right on the doorstep. Since 2021, there have even been free sun loungers and parasols on the beaches run by the municipality of Gambarogno. SUP boarders will also find ideal conditions here.
The flat in Casa Aurelia is part of a well-maintained holiday residence. Six houses are generously spread out on a lushly planted hillside plot of around 16,000 square metres. As the holiday flat is on the ground floor, you can also sit on the large terrace surrounded by greenery, directly between palm trees and flowering shrubs. Under the cosy round arches, you can enjoy the lake and mountain panorama from outside in almost any weather. And in summer, the evening sun shines on our terrace for a long time while the opposite side of the lake with Locarno and Ascona is already in the shadow of the mountains. This is how you live:
The spacious apartment has an area of approx. 48 square metres including the covered terrace and thus offers more than enough space for 2 adults and 1 child (maximum 2 small children). The furnishings are predominantly in Italian country house style, complemented by some modern furnishings. If you are travelling with a baby, we will be happy to provide you with a foldable baby travel cot at no extra charge. Please let us know in good time.
- For guests who like to cook for themselves, we have had a new kitchen with a convenient induction hob, oven, microwave, energy-saving dishwasher and refrigerator since summer 2023.
- In summer 2022, we improved the sun protection on the terrace with side curtains, which provide additional shade on hot days, and
- equipped the flat with a new large-screen TV and a DVD/BlueRay player.
- The hot water and underfloor heating have been heated by an environmentally friendly heat pump since 2021.
- From 2018, a newly built bicycle garage will be available for mountain bikers to use free of charge.
- Since 2017, all walls and ceilings have been repainted with non-hazardous and odourless lime paint.
- Most of the furniture and furnishings were renewed in 2017.
- The double bed has a high-quality pocket spring mattress of medium firmness.
- There is an easy-to-use sofa bed for children.

The combined living room/bedroom is tastefully and comfortably furnished and has a large double bed (180×200cm, mattresses have been optimised with a quality topper), dining area, sofa and TV including free WIFI for internet access.
The panoramic view over the lake can be enjoyed from the balcony lounge. All windows have insect screens.
The modern kitchen is equipped with a ceramic hob, oven, fridge, small freezer, filter coffee machine, milk frother, Nespresso coffee machine, toaster, egg boiler and kettle as well as the necessary cooking utensils and crockery. The Residenza ViraLago is very nicely located directly on Lake Maggiore with indoor swimming pool (closed from the beginning of November to the end of March) , sauna, sunbathing lawns, pergola with tables and chairs and a very nice private beach right on the lake. The price includes all costs including final cleaning.
The space
This apartment is newly renovated and very tastefully furnished. The kitchen is also new and large with a glass-ceramic cooking island and a steamer oven and a free floating range hood. The bed room is large has a bathtub and a very nice shower and bidet. It has a sofa and two armchairs in the living room as well as a new smart LED TV with 55" from Samsung. Likewise, it has an additional 32" LED TV in the bedroom. In the bedroom there is a new comfortable box spring double bed and a large closet with sliding doors. It also has a second bedroom and a nice dining area. In case of need, a comfortable double bed can be made from the sofa by opening the recessed bed frame. The sofa can be used without opening as a bed for the fifth person. In winter there is central heating with radiators and for summer there is air conditioning for both bedrooms or the entire apartment.
Guest access
Guests have access to the indoor swimming pool (closed from the beginning of November to the end of March), sauna, sunbathing lawns, pergola and private beach directly on Lake Maggiore. The whole complex is very well maintained as a year-round caretaker looks after the complex.
Other things to note
Vira is a small but still natural Ticino village and is easily accessible by car or train in terms of traffic. Vira is an ideal starting point to explore and experience Lake Maggiore and Ticino. It has almost infinite possibilities, too, Italy and the metropolis of Lombardy Milan is easily accessible.
You can use my motorboat with 8PS outboard motor (no boat license necessary) per day for CHF 180 per day (8 hours) or half day for CHF 120.- (4 hours) by arrangement with me (max. for 6 people).
Our apartment in Casa Aurelia is part of a well-kept holiday residence on a lush planted, approximately 16,000 sqm hillside property. Since it is on the ground floor, you sit on the terrace in the middle of the green, right between palm trees and flowering shrubs. Behind the cozy circular arches, you can enjoy the lake and mountain panorama in almost any weather. At the large pool below the apartment there are free sunbeds and umbrellas.

The newly renovated and tastefully furnished 3.5-room rental apartment (80 m² ground floor apartment of the main house) can be rented for 4 people (+ a small child in a crib). There are 2 parking spaces available directly at the house (on the flat roof of the annex).
It is possible to rent the studio of the annex belonging to the property (sofa bed for 2 people).
The apartment has a covered loggia of 15 m² with a teak seating area with a breathtaking lake view, a spacious east-facing terrace (30 m² / morning sun) with a dining table and 6 chairs for exclusive use.
The apartment has 2 fully equipped bedrooms (with 4 single beds with wonderful lake views). There are two toilets and a shower with rainforest showerhead. The living room with panoramic sliding windows to the loggia is equipped with an upholstered group, a dining table with 4 chairs and a Swedish stove.
Bed linens and towels are available on the beds and will be washed by the housekeeper at the end of the stay. A flat rate of CHF 150 will be charged for apartment cleaning and laundry.
The seating area in the loggia invites you to linger, discuss, read or simply to marvel at the beauty of Lake Maggiore, especially on hot summer days or mild summer nights. In the transitional period and in the cold winter months, the Swedish stove ensures a pleasant atmosphere.
