Aalto Cottage is a self contained studio cottage situated in Lunawanna on Daniels Bay. This is the quiet, private area of Bruny Island but close to many walks and attractions on the Island. The cottage is near the family home but has many trees and shrubs to provide privacy for guests. We will only interact if you require some help.

The space
A single or couples retreat situated in the garden with private access and ample parking. We are situated on the South Island, a beautiful 40 min drive from the ferry unless you stop at the wonderful Bruny Island Honey shop, Get Shucked Oyster Bar or Cheese Factory to pick up some goodies on your way!
As you drive south, take in the stunning views from the neck walkway overlooking Adventure Bay to the east and Simpsons bay and the D'Entrecastreaux Channel to the west.

We provide a continental breakfast of bread, home made for a 2 night stay, cereal, milk, homemade yoghurt with a homegrown and made berry sauce, juice, homemade jams, fruit and tea/coffee facilities.

Two good eating places are
The Bruny Hotel - approx 6 km from the Cottage; (lunch and dinner daily.)
and
the Bruny Winery approx 2 km from the cottage.
( lunch daily, and dinner on Saturday night).
We do suggest you ring ahead at both of these places to book for evening meals.

Bird watching is very popular in our area and we see sea eagles, black cockatoos, swift parrots, silver eyes, wrens, honey eaters and many other species of birds.

We also have many native visitors- wallabies, rabbits, paddy melons, echidnas and other cute critters.

If you are staying in Tasmania for a week or two we suggest you inquire about a parks pass. This entitles you to go into all Tasmanian National Parks including the lighthouse and Cloudy Bay on Bruny.

Guest access
Aalto Cottage has a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. We also supply a Webber Baby Q BBQ for your use.

A hair dryer and all linen is also provided.

Guests are welcome to walk around our 5 acre property and enjoy the bird life in our native bushland to the back of our property. Cemetery Beach is only a short walk away and has stunning views over the D’enrecasteaux Channel down to Adamsons Peak and the Southern Ranges. The sunsets are beautiful from the beach, or across the road from the cottage.

A book is provided in the cottage on “things to do on Bruny” showing the walks, shops, restaurants in the area. We are central to Alonnah, the lighthouse, Cloudy Bay, and a short drive to Adventure Bay.

Pristine waterfront facing D’Entrecasteaux Channel, Kaoru offers a relaxing getaway in tranquil surroundings and encounters with abundant fauna and birdlife.

The space
This waterfront guest house offers 3 separate pavilions across a large deck area. The bedroom/living room pavilion, the kitchen pavilion and bathroom pavilion with shower, composting toilet and basin at the end of the deck.

Thoughtfully positioned Indoor-outdoor combined living space with BBQ on the main deck and open fireplace on another platform to enjoy the abundant birdlife.

Kaoru is situated within the owner's premises however, it has a private access to the cabin.

Guests can park next to the main house and short walk (approx. 40 m) alongside deck and follow the pine bark pathway to the accommodation.

This refurbished guesthouse is located only metres from the water's edge at Quarantine Bay. The fully self-contained unit is clean, cosy and perfect for couples. This is a perfect location for relaxing and a great place to base yourself for a Bruny Island getaway.
It is a beautiful place to wake up with views across the bay.

The space
We are fortunate enough to live in an environment surrounded by nature. We are often visited by Bennett’s wallabies, Eastern quoll’s, Tasmanian pademelons, Long-nosed Potoroo’s, the occasional echidna, various species of birds, and on occasion we can see a rare glimpse of dolphins in the bay. At certain times of the year the Aurora Australis paints the night sky.

You can hear the water lapping on the beach from across a quiet no through road. Dharamshala means a rest house for travellers and with water views from almost all corners of this open plan cabin, it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind.

The space
This is a brand new self-contained cabin. Includes king size bed. Small dining table with 2 chairs. Couch and coffee table. Fully equipped kitchenette with gas stove, microwave, bar fridge and tea and coffee. And an ensuite bathroom. There is also a smart TV which you can view from bed or from the couch (please note there is no WiFi so you would have to use your phone's hotspot to connect to the smart TV features but free to air TV works fine). Outside is a deck with BBQ and table and chairs. There are 3 buildings on the property, the one at the front is the self-contained cabin, in the middle is a garage and shed and at the far end is the main house.

Telstra network works best in this area. Some other networks may not have signal.

The space
Take a short walk to the Quarantine Bay or Chalky Point, scattered with aboriginal middens, or just laze in the comfy outdoor lounge on the balcony.

Both pods have a queen bed, kitchenette, beautiful bathroom with underfloor heating and Italian leather sofa-bed.

Our cupboards are stocked with teas, olive oil, herbs for cooking, soy sauce, etc. – everything you need if you wish to cook at home.
As a welcome gift, you receive a wonderful selection of local produce and snacks.

Being somewhat remote, we suggest that you stock up on food prior to arriving on Bruny. (See our website for further info)
Supplies that you can cook in your kitchenette, on your spacious deck BBQ...or at our communal fire-pit.
Where if your lucky, you could spot a wide range of semi-tame native animals gather every evening.

This beautiful hideaway nestles on the side of a mountain overlooking valleys and beyond to the ocean. It features a western red cedar gas fired hot tub on private deck. The hot tub is styled in the tradition of a Japanese "ofuro" bath.

The space
This cottage with private bath on the front deck is located on the Hundred Acre Hideaway property. There are two guest cottages on this property plus our own private home further up the driveway. The cottages are fully self contained, off-grid and separated from each other by a driveway, gardens and privacy screens. This cottage looks out across fields, a huge valley and beyond to the ocean. Inside the cottage is open plan living with a mezzanine area for sleeping featuring a comfortable queen size bed. Downstairs is an L shaped open plan living area, dining and kitchen space. The bathroom features a large walk in shower, sink, toilet and laundry tub.

It's a good idea to plan ahead for evening meals. During peak season (summer) the Vineyard (5 minutes down the road) is open for dinner on Saturday nights. The Hotel Bruny (15 minutes down the road) is open every night for dinner. The rest of the year the only place open for dinner on the island is the Hotel Bruny and booking ahead is recommended. If you prefer you can pre-order a dinner hamper through us, we need 48 hours notice and we can provide you with 4 local pork sausages, freshly dug potatoes, freshly picked garden greens, a loaf of home baked bread and a bottle of Tasmanian Pinot Noir: $90 for two people. There is a small general store at Adventure Bay where you can buy general meats and a small selection of fruit and vegetables. If you're arriving late we strongly recommend shopping in Hobart for meat and vegetables before your arrival. During your stay on Bruny Island you can then explore the gourmet outlets such as the oyster bar, whiskey house, fudge shop, cheese co, berry farm, vineyard and hotel for island produce.

Guest access
You have the entire cottage to use privately. Plus, 85% of the property is available for your enjoyment, including fields, walking tracks and a 4 hole golf course. We also have two beautiful highland cows, pet sheep, ducks, chooks and a huge array of wallabies, potaroos, paddymelons, wedge tail eagles, goshawks, robins, wrens and honeyeaters. Wildlife is in abundance.

Other things to note
A stay at the Hideaways is about being in the moment. There is no WiFi available and minimal Telstra reception at the property. Don’t let this phase you though, it’s the perfect opportunity to disconnect from the world and connect with the one around you. When you stay at the Hideaway, focus on connecting with your self, your partner and the nature that surrounds us.
