Peaceful Wylah Cottage in Simpsons Bay on Bruny
Cottage
Kingborough Council

Wylah Cottage is the very last house on a dead end road, nestled at the quiet end where Bruny Island feels like it did 30 years ago—peaceful, unhurried, and deeply connected to nature. With space for up to five guests across three cosy bedrooms, Wylah offers a warm and welcoming base for your island adventures. Step onto the verandah and take in breathtaking views across Simpsons Bay, The Neck, and out toward Tasman Island.

The space
Centrally located, Simpsons Bay is the perfect spot to explore all corners of Bruny Island—from its rugged coastlines and walking trails to artisan food producers and quiet beaches. From the verandah enjoy
The ever-changing views over the isthmus and the bay, with eagles soaring overhead, echidnas ambling by. At the right time of the year you may get a glimpse of the critically endangered swift parrots that come to Bruny every year. Nature comes right to your doorstep.
You won’t even need to leave the house to catch some of the most spectacular sunrises you’ve ever seen.

Wylah isn’t a polished retreat—it’s a place with soul - full of character, quirks and thoughtful touches. Full of mid-century modern furniture, cosy reading nooks, well-loved books, original art, and little treasures collected over time. The floorboards are uneven, the angles aren’t always right—but if you’re someone who values heart over high gloss, you might just fall in love.

Whether you’re watching birds from the verandah, feeding the wallabies, or curling up with a book in the sun room (a guest favorite), Wylah invites you to slow down, breathe deep, and feel at home. She’s a true Tasmanian shack—with warmth, creativity, and a little bit of magic in every corner.

Inside, you’ll find:
* Three bedrooms (2 queen, 1 king single) – sleeps up to 5
* A fully equipped kitchen
* A toasty open fireplace for Tassie winters
* Heated blankets and hot water bottles on every bed
* Washing machine and laundry facilities
* Cosy sunroom with views and natural light
* Thoughtfully curated mid-century furniture and original artwork
* A library of well-loved books, games, and local treasures

Outside:
* Fully fenced front yard – perfect for well-behaved furry family members
* Front verandah with views across Simpsons Bay and The Neck
* Off-street parking

Close to:
* Restaurants, shops, The Bread Fridge
* Beautiful walks and beaches
* Aurora watching spots (very strong auroras have been watched from Wylah)
* The little penguins
* The Neck

Guest access
Wylah is all yours while you’re. If Suhela, your host and the owner of Wylah is around, she stays on the back property.

Hundred Acre Hideaway - Barrel - Hot Tub 1
Cottage
Kingborough Council

The Hot Tub Hideaway #1 is located at Hundred Acre Hideaway overlooking Cloudy Bay valley and the Southern Ocean. It is a romantic getaway featuring a wood fired hot tub on the deck for hours of blissful, relaxing hot soaking whilst taking in the amazing views. Inside, the open plan living centres around a cosy wood heater. The kitchen is well stocked and the living room has a generous supply of books, magazines, music, movies and games. Close to the vineyard/bar/grill, hotel and cruises.

The space
There are two guest cottages on the Hundred Acre Hideaway property both with outdoor hot tubs. This cottage #1 is a contemporary open plan living space with a deck and screens on two sides and the wood fired hot tub is sunken into the front deck looking out to the ocean. The other guest cottage is across the driveway and separated by gardens, lawns and privacy screening. The property is very quiet and set high on Mount Mangana with uninterrupted views across bushland and out to the Southern Ocean. Paul and I live on the property in our own private cottage further up the driveway separated by a sculptural fence defining public and private areas. As guests at Hundred Acre Hideaway you have access to 85% of this amazing property. We will greet you with a warm Bruny Island welcome but give you total privacy and space to relax.

Other things to note:
The wood fired hot tub is a hands on experience that requires basic fire building knowledge. We prepare the tub for your arrival, but once checked in you will be responsible for maintaining the tub. This requires wood chopping and will take roughly 2 hours to reheat the next day.
Please note that in the event of a fireban, unfortunately the Barrel hot tub fire can not be used. If you are staying in the Barrel Hideaway, we will arrange to have the tub filled via gas hot water, ready for when you arrive. Then the next day the tub can be enjoyed as a plunge pool.

It's a good idea to plan ahead for evening meals. During peak season (summer) the Vineyard (5 minutes down the road) is open for dinner on Saturday nights. The Hotel Bruny (15 minutes down the road) is open every night for dinner. The rest of the year the only place open for dinner on the island is the Hotel Bruny and booking ahead is recommended. If you prefer you can pre-order a dinner hamper through us, we need 48 hours notice and we can provide you with 4 local pork sausages, freshly dug potatoes, freshly picked garden greens, a loaf of home baked bread and a bottle of Tasmanian Pinot Noir: $90 for two people. There is a small general store at Adventure Bay where you can buy general meats and a small selection of fruit and vegetables. If you're arriving late we strongly recommend shopping in Hobart for meat and vegetables before your arrival. During your stay on Bruny Island you can then explore the gourmet outlets such as the oyster bar, whiskey house, fudge shop, cheese co, berry farm, vineyard and hotel for island produce.

Guest access
You have the entire cottage to use privately. Plus, 85% of the property is available for your enjoyment, including fields, walking tracks and a 4 hole golf course. We also have two beautiful highland cows, pet sheep, ducks, chooks and a huge array of wallabies, potaroos, paddymelons, wedge tail eagles, goshawks, robins, wrens and honeyeaters. Wildlife is in abundance.

Other things to note
A stay at the Hideaways is about being in the moment. There is no WiFi available and minimal Telstra reception at the property. Don’t let this phase you though, it’s the perfect opportunity to disconnect from the world and connect with the one around you. When you stay at the Hideaway, focus on connecting with your self, your partner and the nature that surrounds us.
