I felt as though I had been transported back to the 1890s but with modern amenities and comfort. The next morning, Stephanie prepared a delicious breakfast for me, and we had another chat about history. She was very respectful of my time and didn't want to burden me with too many details. I assured her that I appreciated all this information and welcomed more. Stephanie explained all the restoration that she had done to the property. Her attention to detail is impressive. I highly recommend a stay at Oaklawn Inn for anyone visiting Menomonie or anyone interested in the history of our state. You won't be disappointed! "

The Grey room is both stylish and practical. The color of this room embraces you as you enter. The antique double metal bed frame. A good size desk allows you to spread out your papers or work on your laptop. An 1800’s Tennessee pink marble sink held up with cast iron brackets of cast oak leaves and acorns. This leads you into the gold bathroom with a stylish shower and Victorian style toilet. This room also has a spacious closet.

The space
This Queen Ann Victorian home was built in 1889. It is the only building left from a 518 acre stock farm.
The Oaklawn Stock Farm was built by lumber baron Andrew Tainter. He built this home for his daughter Lottie Tainter and Son-in-Law George Sealy the Supervisor of the Stock Farm. It was on of the finest stock farms in the United States. It was established to breed not only the fastest race horses but to breed the very best.

After Andrew Tainter passed in 1899, the Stock farm continued on until 1904 and then converted to standard farm. It stay in the Tainter family until 1946 then purchased by John Dale. In 1996, this house was purchased by Maggie Foote. She remodeled it and converted it to a Bed & Breakfast. Stephanie Perry purchased the house in 2021. She closed it to remodel it for a year and has opened it back up as the Oaklawn Inn Bed & Breakfast.

The Oaklawn Inn has 4 lovely bedrooms with private bathrooms. A shared space of the Great Room, Parlor, Dining Room and large wrap around porch. The house currently sits in the center of Stout Technology Park.

Our spacious 900 sq. ft. studio/loft was once the art studio used by a local children’s book illustrator. You will notice some of her artwork and photos displayed throughout.
The studio was designed with the intention of accommodating 2– 4 people. Our studio is beautiful, peaceful and private. Extra sanitizing practices are being taken for your safety.

The space
Enjoy the views from our secluded, hilltop property as well as from the large treetop windows of our spacious 2nd floor studio apartment. Relax on the deck and enjoy the abundant wildlife; from grazing deer and lively squirrels to a variety of local birds, including bald eagles, hawks and geese. We enjoy feeding the song birds year-round - it is fun to watch them. We hope you will discover Menomonie’s beautiful surroundings, whatever the season.

There is a deck off of the studio. You are welcome to access the yard. There is also a queen sized futon available for quests in addition to the king bed. There is an outdoor grill for your use. Fishing, hiking trails, biking, canoeing, snowmobiling (winter), ATV trails and kayaking within one mile from the studio.

Other things to note
There is a locked key box on the main entrance to the studio. Please return key to the lock box when you leave so that it is available upon your return.

We accept medium dogs but no cats. We do charge a $25 fee per dog.

Built by my grandfather in the 1940s to fit his growing family of five children the farmhouse has seen a lot of changes over the years including recently in 2024. The five bedrooms and spacious living room and expansive deck allow for great spaces inside and outside to unwind. Due to pet allergies, pet and service animals are not allowed in this house. Wedges Creek Hideaway has various brick oven pizza and live music events open to the public as posted on our website.

We have two bedrooms on the main floor and two bathrooms on the main floor and three bedrooms upstairs. We may have brick oven pizzas and live music available as listed on our Wedges Creek Hideaway website. We have trails we can direct you to and request that children be escorted and kept safe as we do have a significant amount of equipment on site from our legacy sawmill business.

Laundry is available, however we as for a donation on the machine towards the additional energy, maintenance, and detergent cost for the added convenience. Start of the Northwoods Cottage, is cozy retreat overlooking our glacier-made Beaver Lake. Perfect for families or groups of friends, this cottage features two full bathrooms and can accommodate up to 6-8 guests, including your furry friend (we welcome well-behaved dogs). The main floor boasts a bedroom with a king-sized bed, a cozy living room, and a fully equipped kitchen where you can prepare your favorite meals. Upstairs, the loft area features two queen-sized beds and a trundle bed, providing plenty of space for everyone to relax. Outside, you can soak up the stunning views of the lake from the patio, perfect for outdoor dining and relaxing. With its tranquil setting and convenient location near a variety of recreational opportunities, The Start of the Northwoods Cottage is the perfect place for your next getaway.

Guest access
Guests will have exclusive access to the entire Northwoods Cottage during their stay. Please note that the cottage is situated next to our primary home location, so we will be around and somewhat close should you need anything. However, the cottage is next to a small piece of woods on the other side, providing a sense of seclusion and privacy. Please keep in mind that the cottage is located on a hill, and there is a somewhat steep walk down to the lake. We want to set the expectation upfront so that you can plan accordingly and fully enjoy your stay at our lovely lakeside retreat.

Other things to note
Before booking, we want our guests to know that we provide paddle boats and kayaks, which are shared between the cottage and our primary home. We also offer life jackets, but please note that we may have limited adult sizes available, so you may want to bring your own if you require a specific size. Guests are welcome to jump off the docks and swim in front of them, as many of our guests find this to be a fun activity. It's important to note that while we live on a clean lake, the bottom of the lake may have leaves due to the well-wooded area. The Bunk House is attached to a garage. You will have access to the full bunk house, however not the garage. There is a patio in front that you’re more than welcome to enjoy.
