The space
10 min walk to Martha's Vineyard's beautiful State Beach and 5 minute bike ride to Edgartown’s shops and restuarants! Bright sunny cottage, right off Beach RD, adjacent to the Island’s extensive bike path connecting you to the all of Martha's Vineyard's 5 towns and beaches. This location can’t be beat! Perfect for a couple’s easy week at the beach. You won’t be looking for parking, just stroll or bike to the beach in the morning. Miles of wooded trails with water view across the street for a morning walk or jog, then a quick rinse off in the outside shower.

GETTING AROUND

In the evening walk, bike or take the bus to either Oak Bluffs or Edgartown for dinner and nightlife. The bus stop is 50 feet from your front door and comes every 15 min in the summer. There is parking for two cars but many guests don’t even bring a car, you don’t really need one from this location. It's only a 15 minute bus ride from the Oak Bluffs ferry and the bus accommodates bikes.

ROOMS & LAYOUT

The bedroom is a separate room off the kitchen and has a double bed with antiique brass headboard, ceiling fan, dresser and plenty of hooks for clothes, towels etc.. Ample sized eat in kitchen with antique pine table and chairs. Bathroom is accessible from kitchen or bedroom. Living room is off the kitchen and large enough to comfortably accommodate two couches, one of which is a pull out bed. Being on the opposite side of the cottage from the bedroom one could easily take a nap in the bedroom while the other relaxed watching a movie in the living room. Plenty of storage for luggage in huge closet/laundry room off the living room. Cottage is about 800 SQ'.

AMMENITIES

Beautiful pine floors and freshly tiled bathroom. Cable TV, New Blue Ray player, 32 inch flat screen TV and WIFI included.

Fenced in for privacy, the front yard has a large outside shower, table and chairs for four, two chais lounge chairs and a crushed oyster shell BBQ area with a gas grill.

HISTORY

The cottage is part of a complex of buildings which once made up the historic Martha’s Vineyard COOP Dairy. This cottage served as it's creamery building. The Martha’s Vineyard COOP Dairy was an operating dairy and milk bottling facility until the mid 1960's. During its hayday, all the island’s farmers brought thier milk to be processed and bottled here. The owners unit was the Dairy’s barn and is behind the cottage on the property.

We are year round residents and would be glad to help out with some tips to make your stay a memorable one.

HERE'S A FEW FUN THINGS GOIN' ON NEARBY

BIKING - Great location as a base camp for biking the island. Bring your own bike or easily rent one, bike rental shop is just a 10 minute walk toward town, they also will deliver.

FISHING - Just a 1/2 mile away the bend in the road beach offers some of the best surfcasting on the vineyard, head another 1/2 mile down the road and drop a line off big bridge, great spot for Stripers and Blues.

CLAMMING - Just a ten minute walk is Sengekontacket pond by far one of the very best clamming spots on the Island.

CRABBING - 5 minute walk toward the beach is a colvert where the salt pond rushes under the road. Great spot for catching crabs.

KITE SURFING - Well known for its great windsurfing, Sengekontacket pond is also quickly becoming known as one of the best places in the east coast for kite surfing. Vineyard native, Rob Douglas, earned the title of fastest kite sailor in the world & can be regularly found rippin' it up on Sengekontacket pond.

KAYAKING - On the far side of the State Beach, 10 min by bike, Kayaks can be rented by Island Spirit Kayak. They also offer great day and sunset tours island wide.

BRIDGE JUMPING - One mile down the road, nothing like Jumping off State Beach's big bridge! You'll regularly find kids and adults alike enjoying the 10' plunge into the cool waters of the Vineyard Sound on a hot summer day.

SNORKELING
Nothing like the Caribbean, but the waters here are typically surprisingly clear. Floating around the rock jetties of either of the two bridges along State Beach you can ride the current in or out of Sengekontacket pond. Small fish, conch, starfish, crabs and the occasional Stripped Bass are your quarry. The free ride in the current is worth the effort. After 15 years living here this is still one of my favorites on a hot day!

This Airbnb is a dahlia farm. It is a hefty 15 minute walk to downtown Edgartown. The house is only a 5 minute drive, or 3 mile bike ride to South Beach. Nearby there are plenty of restaurants, shops, and excitement for those looking to enjoy the liveliness of downtown Edgartown. However, the location of the house provides a peaceful and quiet atmosphere with an ol’ Vineyard farmhouse vibe. The upstairs bedroom has a full bathroom with a shower. Entrance is through the house.

The space
This bedroom is a private upstairs room with a full private bathroom. The house itself is in a quiet neighborhood, but still close enough to Main street for guests to enjoy the excitement of Edgartown.

At guest request, a small space in the family refrigerator can be provided. There are several outdoor areas we encourage guests to enjoy. The outdoor deck is nice for lounging or eating.

Charming guest house with spectacular views on Sengekontacket. There's a full kitchen, full bath, sitting area, and a spiral staircase that leads to a small upper bedroom where the twin beds are. The lower level has a sofa, bathroom, kitchen, queen bed, and sliding glass doors that lead onto patio , and expansive water views. There is also a separate bedroom on the first floor which was just completely redone this summer.

Located in Edgartown, there is no need for a car, but we offer free parking on site if you choose to bring one. There is a bus stop .25 miles away that goes into town. Bring bike(s) as this is literally on the bike path that circles the island. It is 1.5 miles to the edge of town and 2.5 miles to Edgartown harbor. If you want unique, this place is it. The bedroom loft with the living room below, exposed wood, outdoor shower, detached bathroom, composting toilet and camp style feel will get you to truly relax into island life giving a glamping experience that you will always cherish and remember for years to come. We will make sure snacks are provided, amenities included such as hair dryers and things that my wife said are the essentials for every trip, and overall be excited to give you what we love so much about the island. This is centrally located, clean and hopefully more affordable than other stays and what we believe to be the best value. :)

Welcome to my home, a 200 year-old former whaling captain's home in the heart of historic Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard (not Nantucket). From here, every amenity - shops, beaches, harbor, restaurants, and night life - is accessible by foot or bicycle. No car needed.

I am very happy to be beginning my (sixth? seventh? eighth?) year as an AirBnB host, many of those years as a Super Host. I've learned a lot along the way, and one thing I do know - I love the hospitality business.

This house is my childhood home, to which I returned to live full time in 2012. I spent several years lovingly restoring this old house - painting and repairing every room with my own hands. The house was built in the early 1800s, about two miles out of town, by a whaling captain, Captain Alexander Palmer Weeks. It was moved to its in-town location in the mid 1930s by a team of forty yoke of oxen.
Here is the story of the house move (and I recently wrote a fiddle tune - a jig - for Captain Weeks. If you read to the end, you will see why, and I will play this tune for you upon request).
May Snowstorm That Took an Unkind Turn (from a 1948 edition of the Vineyard Gazette)

The cold May storm, a proverbial part of the Vineyard spring, took an especially unkind turn about a century ago, on May 26th, the date being recalled because it coincided with moving day for an old house which found a haven on Main Street, Edgartown.

The house, then owned by Capt. Alexander Weeks, once stood at Ocean Heights, but yielding to that irresistible urge which seemed to overtake both houses and their owners in the olden days, it was decreed that it should become a town dweller. Propelled by forty yoke of oxen and a large force of men, the house made its slow and stately way over the sandy roads until it reached its present site, on the corner of Green Lane, where it is now the home of Mrs. Herbert M. Boylston.

"The usual barrel of New England liquid refreshments as was the custom in those halcyon days," the Gazette recalled wistfully a quarter of a century ago, "flowed freely and when spirits rose to the point that when the new location was reached it was decided to hold a dance then and there. A fiddler was procured, fair ladies recruited, and the evening passed all too swiftly, the home-going guests finding to their surprise that a heavy snow had fallen while they were celebrating and that many of the weary and hungry oxen had dispersed, leading to a chilly chase on the night of the great snow, before the beasts were stabled and their masters housed."

(More information about Captain Alexander Palmer Weeks, from my mother's files, includes the facts that he was born on May 18, 1804 and died on August 29 or 30, 1856, lost at sea in a hurricane, and that in 1835 Captain Weeks was skipper of the ship Leader whose home port was New Bedford. I have also learned - from the National Maritime Digital Library - that Leader, a whaling bark, with Captain Weeks listed as its master, departed New Bedford for the Pacific Ocean in May of 1835, and returned in April of 1838, reporting 480 sperm, and 138 whale. Leader is listed as having been built in 1815 in Fairhaven, and that she broke up in 1851.)

There is also off-street parking in my yard, though I can't stress enough how unnecessary a car is in this location and is often a hindrance during peak season.

During your stay
I am either at home or nearby most of the time. I am a native Edgartonian and can give you insider's advice, history, and point of view of the town. I'm always happy to sit and chat with anyone who is interested, but am also careful to respect your privacy.
Since 2020 I have reconfigured my rental space so that when you are in my home, your rental includes your bedroom(s), the living room, a small breakfast nook with coffee machine, small refrigerator, along with essentials for continental-style breakfast, including milk, cream, juice, cereal, granola bars, coffee and tea; also, private bath. In other words, you are renting your own private suite in the front of my house, also including use of the front porch and garden seating. There is parking for one guest car on the premises.

This house is also home to a small photo gallery (very low key, and will not interfere with your stay) and is the setting for occasional music and song jams. Guests are always invited to attend and/or participate in these gatherings. I have seven young grandchildren and they are often on the premises, so if young children are not your cup of tea, this is probably not the place for you (on the other hand, if you are traveling with children, please do ask about my overflow options as this is a very child-friendly home).
Also, as noted, this is a 200 year-old house. If you are expecting modern, fancy, and fluffy, you will be disappointed - clean, orderly, friendly, convenient, historic, and interesting, yes - but by no means, fancy.

So cute. This is how this one bedroom guest house has been described. It was completely renovated with a separate bedroom with queen bed, living area with twin sleep sofa (good for a child), kitchenette and bath. The Big Chill is close to the buses, grocery stores, fish markets, Morning Glory Farm, the beautiful beaches and the center of Edgartown.
You’ll love it.. its cozy, has A/C, you'll love the high ceilings on the second floor and the location! The BIG CHILL has a full bath indoors and a fully enclosed outdoor shower steps from the door. The space
The Big Chill is very cozy and perfect for 2-3 people. You will love the galley kitchen and the coziness of the living room. The Big Chill has a beautiful upstairs suite with a queen bed (and a twin) along with a wonderful couch. It has hardwood floors throughout the house, a TV and internet. Please take a look at special notes below for the bath. I also have a fold out couch in the living room. I provide all linens and have a fully equipped kitchen.

The Big Chill is a separate house with its own entrance and its own parking space. The main house Sandy Feet is close by that you can find on AIR if you need a bigger space.

Other things to note
The Big Chill is spacious, lovely and has beautiful grounds. It is one mile to town… a walk or a bike ride away. The bike path is right down at the end of the little private street.
The Big Chill has a 1/2 bath. There is an outdoor shower that we leave on until November 15th. Please don't forget o.k.?
Also, the outdoor shower is enclosed and has a changing area. It is also steps away from the door to the guest house. A few guests at first were reluctant to use it (as they weren't use to it) and found that it was a highlight of their stay. Many people in the NorthEast are use to outdoor showers so if you are not, please take this into consideration when making your decision. Or come and stay! You might really like it as one of our recent guests commented!

A charming light-filled, two-bedroom Katama, cottage tucked away with a private deck within an easy walk or ride on owner-provided bikes to town or beach. Linens, towels, as well as beach chairs, and Beach towels, are provided. The cottage has private parking and access, a queen-sized bedroom, and a second with two twins. The south-facing private patio is equipped with a gas grill. Two-night minimum.

The Cottage is a converted garage encompassing two floors with approximately 900 sq ft of living space total. Each bedroom is on a separate floor as are the two full baths. The second floor has two means of access, an inside stairway which can be accessed from the first floor without entering the first floor living area and an outer stairway located near the driveway. The kitchen, dining and living area are on the second floor.
