Cozy Guest Houses in Lizard for Your Perfect Getaway

Quilkyn Hollow is a 1920s barn conversion in the beautiful hamlet of Tresowes, just minutes from the A389 and the south coast beaches. The house provides a quiet leafy retreat and a great base from which to explore this end of Cornwall, whether by car, foot, or bicycle.

It's a magical place and I'm really pleased to be able to share it with others.

The space
I have two double guest rooms with a shared bathroom. This listing is for Room 1 (please see my other listing for details of Room 2).

Room 1 is on the first floor and is the larger of the two rooms. The décor has a loft-space feel. This room is in the attic space but the ceiling is standard height above and around the bed.

The room has a standard double bed with fluffy mattress topper, squishy pillows and duvet, cotton bedlinen and a fleece blanket for the odd chilly night (although we don’t have many of these). Each room has a large television with Freesat. There is a built-in wardrobe with shelves and a hanging rail, a desk (although to be honest I strongly discourage work), a coffee table with chairs, and a small food preparation area with a kettle, fridge, microwave and a selection of crockery and cutlery (I will do you washing up while you are out as there is no kitchen sink for guests).

The bathroom has a bath with shower and is shared with one other room (up to 2 guests). Guests are provided with a cosy bathrobe.

There is a selection of teas and coffee with fresh milk.

Guest access
Guests have access to the large garden that surrounds the house. There are tables and chairs for guests.

There is space on the driveway for one vehicle per room, but please note this is not suitable for vehicles that are more than 5 meters long or 2 meters wide (my friend's Bongo is fine, my electrician's long wheelbase van doesn't fit).

The bathroom is shared with up to two other guests, but not with the host.

The kitchen and lounge are private and for the host use only.

During your stay
I am here if you have questions, but otherwise I keep to myself an leave you in peace to enjoy your stay.

For anything urgent the best way to get hold of me is to come and find me. I also give guests my mobile number and they can contact me via Air BnB messages.

Other things to note
I am sorry I am unable to accommodate guests with mobility issues due to UK fire safety laws. This is to keep guests safe as they need to be able to exit the house safety in an emergency and the property sadly doesn't facilitate this.

There are six concrete steps leading down to the property that do not have a hand rail so guests would need to be able to navigate these safely without assistance.

The house is in a largely residential area so please be respectful of the neighbours. The rooms are fairly well sound-proofed but be mindful of loud conversations in the hallway when other people might still be sleeping. Please turn televisions and music down to a sociable level after 11pm and before 8am.

The kitchen is not available to guests. There are two reasons for this. The first is that the kitchen isn't of a standard suitable for paying guests and I could be closed down by the HSE. The second is that insurance for guests to use a kitchen is quite expensive. I try to keep my prices, and costs, as low as possible so I don't have this. This is just a kind request to please not ask me to make exceptions as I will always have to refuse.

I am also unable to host guests under the age of 18 due to insurance restrictions.

I am not able to accommodate dogs (or other pets) as I have a very nervous rescue cat and it just wouldn't be fair to him. From time to time people ask if they can leave dogs in their car overnight, but please don't do this. It isn't safe and my dog-loving neighbours are likely to report people.

LQBTQ+ guests and people from all backgrounds and religions are very welcome.

If there is anything you need that isn't covered in the information here please just ask.

I am not able to provide breakfast as there isn't enough demand to make it viable, but there is a fridge and microwave in your room.

Charming Self-Contained Annex in Coastal Porthleven

Welcome to our cosy and compact annex — a perfect little retreat for solo travellers or couples. The living area features a small double bed with a narrow walkway, making efficient use of the space while still offering comfort.

You'll find everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a TV, kettle, coat stand, and a small wardrobe. The ensuite bathroom is equipped with a large shower, toilet, and wash basin for your convenience.

Step outside to your own patio area enjoying sea-views in the distance — an ideal spot to enjoy your morning coffee or unwind in the garden after a day of exploring.

Located just a short walk from the heart of Porthleven, you'll have easy access to fantastic restaurants, cosy pubs, live music venues, and charming cafes. Local supermarkets are also nearby for anything you might need during your stay.

The stunning beach and coastline are just a 10-minute walk away — perfect for seaside strolls, sunsets, or simply soaking up the Cornish charm.

Also short walking distance to the beautiful South-West coastal path.

You’ll access the annexe through the garden via your own private, lockable entrance, completely separate from the main house.

During your stay, you're welcome to enjoy the patio space in the rear garden.

1. Park on the driveway in front of the sign for The Cabin.

2. Push the grey side gate open.

3. Walk down 4 steps and follow the path.

4. Walk past the annex on your left and continue down the path to the cabin.

5. The door will be locked with the key in the lock.

Please be careful along the garden path as it can become a little slippery in wet weather.

Dog on Premises:

We have a dog that will be in the garden from time to time. If you don’t like dogs, let me know and I can keep him out of the garden during your stay—it's no problem.

This is no kitchen. We do provide plates and cutlery if you wish to order a takeaway.

Bathroom;

There is a shower and a sink with a cold tap to brush your teeth etc. There is no running hot tap.

The space
We can assure you a very comfy bed and a hot shower. Your bedroom is on the ground floor of an unusual modern open plan 70s town house with a private entrance , small but powerful shower room , with french doors opening to a private garden. There is a simple continental breakfast (on request )and a shelf in the fridge.for your items.
(For longer stays occasional light meal prep in the kitchen could be negotiated :) . Parking on the road is free and available.
A small branch line train runs along the lane adjacent but stops at night. Most find this a surprising tucked away gem , peaceful altho. the trian runs twice an hour its quiet in between with bird song . Penmere station connects to. Truro is handy to access the west of Cornwall and London by foot

This room is bright and spacious, with an enormous, supremely comfortable super-king size bed. In addition, a fabulous built in loft bed, suitable for an older child, teenager or adult is available. A super new en-suite shower is also included.

The space
We have been welcoming guests into our home for several years now and...we enjoy it as much as our guests :o)

The room we are offering has been newly designed and refurbished for 2015. It is fresh, thoughtfully decorated and detailed with lots of handcrafted touches, giving your room a unique yet homely feel.

Falmouth itself has plenty to offer: from our home, you can walk to three of Falmouth's main beaches or discover the many smaller ones that lay hidden around the coastline. You can also stroll through Falmouth's bustling historic town and observe life on the 3rd largest natural harbour in the world.

Regular ferry trips will transport you along picturesque estuaries then land you at many of the fascinating and historical points of interest, including Trelissick Gardens, 'The Ferryboat Inn', and the wonderful 'Pandora Inn'.

Falmouth provides lots of choice for food lovers! You can head out to dinner at any number of popular restaurants offering a variety of cuisines. We can advise you if needed.

For evening entertainment, there's also plenty to choose from: theatre, live music, cinema or you can simply watch the sun slip down into the ocean :o)

Wander home at the end of the evening and you can fall into a restful and well made bed with natural bedding, crisp cotton, good quality linen and gorgeously plump and comfortable pillows.

As your hosts, we are always on hand to offer you tips on places to go and transport options. Passionate about the environment and the great outdoors, we are more than happy to suggest places off the beaten track.

Packed lunches are available on request and there will often be tasty home- baked surprise treats for you to enjoy.

Our home is centrally located. A regular bus service stops close by with several train stations within walking distance.

This is a small cosy, wood clad net loft has a woodburner, a Belfast sink, and a kettle and toaster. Outside there is a hot outdoor shower and private flower filled sunny courtyard. It is situated within 2 minutes walk of the beach, the peir and the surf break, Porthleven is a vibrant community with well known local restaurants, bars, coffee shops and craft stalls. It is also situated on the south west coast path and from the front door you can walk towards the Lizard or Land's end.

The space
The net loft is located to the rear of our house and has its own private courtyard with outdoor table and chairs. In the main room there is a queen size bed (small double) and a small worktop with a toaster, a kettle and a fridge. The loo is in a separate room off the courtyard and the hot shower is alfresco- in the courtyard protected from view by a bamboo screne, perfect for when you come off the beach.

Overlooking the luscious landscape of Predannack downs, Lana’s Lodge is positioned in the heart of the picturesque village of Mullion. The accommodation sleeps four people and is the perfect “home from home”. A short walk in either direction and you could be dipping your toes at Pollurian beach, or admiring the dramatic views of Mullion Harbour. Sharon and Dave, your hosts run this small and friendly bed and breakfast, we serve a traditional English breakfast, that has been locally sourced where possible, good sized double room overlooking our garden, with a separate entrance, shower room, WiFi, smart TV. The Old Bakery is a bed and breakfast close to The Lizard Village with its pubs and retaurants. With in walking distance of the coast path and beaches. You’ll love my place because of The large room with your own patio. Large gardens for peace and quiet.. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers.

The space
The Old Bakery was built around 1935 and was the bakery supplying bread for The Lizard village. We renovated the building and converted it to a bed and breakfast in 2015/16.
The Old Bakery is situated on the edge of the village but is only two minutes’ walk to the village centre with its pubs and restaurants. The coastal path and a number of wonderful beaches are within easy walking distance.
This listing is for 1 room with king size beds, both with en-suite bathrooms. Both rooms are equipped with LCD TV’s, tea and coffee making facilities, bottled water and hair dryers. Each room has its own patio for your private use. The breakfast room overlooks the fish pond in our secluded and peaceful gardens.
We use locally sourced produce for our breakfasts where possible with some from our own garden in season. Our marmalade is homemade and the honey from our own bee hives.

Access is through a private entrance and right of way, via a 'secret garden' path at the foot of the garden. It is very close to Falmouth Town centre, in a beautiful conservation area. It is light and homely, and comfortably equipped for a relaxing self-catering holiday. It’s a squeeze for a family of 4 and not suitable for 4 adults.

The space
It has an open plan small kitchen and open plan lounge, one small double bedroom & one small single bedroom with a kids bunkbed. This means it is slightly smaller than a full size bunk and therefore not suitable for two adults). The annexe is therefore ideal for a family but not for four adults. The bathroom is basic, and has a shower, toilet and new washbasin. There is a small area outside, which enjoys the morning sun, with plants, table & chairs. The garden on the other side of the wooden trellis is private. This is a period property and is cosy and comfortable rather than perfect and new.

Please note this property is part of an old school and was previously a classroom. It will never be super shiny & squeaky clean due to its history. This can mean the odd cobweb & handles being marked. There may be scuffs on the wall from kids having fun. Some people like this - others won't. Just to let people know in advance if they prefer flawless fixtures and fittings.

Located at the top of Fore Street in Porthleven your accommodation is just a short walk away from the bustling harbourside with its classic pubs and excellent restaurants, even a brewery.

Porthleven B and B is in Belmont built around 1874 with sections of the building looking to predate that. However, the suite totally separate using your own private entrance you’ll enter galley area with sink, kettle, pod coffee machine and fridge before moving in to the bedroom area with it's ensuite shower.

The space
We will provide complimentary breakfast snack items along with tea, coffee including pods (if you have a favourite bring it with you) milk and cereal.
Continue into the ensuite bedroom the bed itself is a king size with Hypnos mattress so you can be assured a restful night’s sleep. There is a small desk and chair along with a separate table and 2 chairs to enjoy your breakfast snack. Along with plenty of hanging space drawers and space to put away your suitcase you’ll still have plenty of room to relax without tripping over your belongings. For those that want to just lay back and relax there is also a wall mounted smart TV.
The ensuite in Porthleven B and B has a large walk-in digital shower with two shower heads and a sink unit with plenty of space for all your bathroom essentials.

Comfort, space and convenience are the key features of this quality accommodation and having undergone total refurbishment in 2023 and opened in 2024. This means full rewiring with new sockets which include USB sockets full Wi-Fi and bedside lights that also have their individual reading lights and more USB sockets. Conveniently located at the top of Fore street with a 250-meter walk to the harbour head slipway. On the way you’ll pass 3 great cafés for those looking for a more substantial brunch with others to choose from around the harbour.

Porthleven is synonymous with food the famous food festival occupying the whole harbour (in 2024 26th-28th April) great places to eat out from excellent quality restaurants, kitchen bars, an open-air seafood bar, pub food, pasties and of course fish and chips to enjoy sitting by the harbour.
There are of course and great more places to eat out nearby and we are happy to share our experiences with you.

Other things to note
Although there is level access, we would advise that the property has a small step to get inside and the bathroom doesn't have enough space for a wheelchair to turn. So, while it's accessible for those with some mobility impairment, it's not ideal for wheelchair users. There are also no streetlights here in Newtown St Martin -- great for stargazers. There is a lovely 17th century pub is about 1 minute walk away and it serves lovely food. We are very close to the Helford River and there are some beautiful beaches about 10 - 15 minutes drive away.

Chi Lowarth is a beautifully decorated, modern holiday home specifically designed as a relaxing bolt-hole to explore Porthleven, Penrose Estate and the magnificent Cornish Coast.

Chi Lowarth is a short, 15 minute walk to Porthleven harbour with its abundance of fantastic restaurants, bars, history and art. Chi Lowarth has been lovingly created as a haven away from the hustle and bustle whilst being close enough to enjoy it all at your pleasure... or leisure.

The space
The property has a king sized bedroom, large living area, fully equipped kitchen and shower room. There is an additional outdoor shower for washing pets or wetsuits before coming into the property.

The property has a courtyard area along the front with outdoor bistro set. There is also a grassed area under a peach tree. Both entrances are gated and your area is either fenced or has hedging along it.

Bosilliac Eacape is situated in 1.5acres of garden attached to the main occupied family home of Bosilliac. This luxury self contained accommodation, offers complete relaxation and tranquility.
There is private space within the garden to relax over looking the pond and down the valley to the sea.

The space
Situated on the edge of the beautiful village of Mawnan Smith and the breath taking Helford Passage. Mawnan Smith boasts a thatched roof pub, local well stocked shop with local produce. There is also a cafe and gift shop. Bosilliac Escape has nearby access to a footpath which leads to Maenporth beach. The costal footpaths are the other side of the village along with Trebah Gardnes and National Trust Glendurgan Gardens. Falmouth is a 10minute drive away and the local beach also 10minutes by car or 40minutes by foot.

Guest access
There are electric gates into the grounds of Bosilliac and access to Bosilliac Escape is via path around the main residence to a private entry. There is ample parking on the shared drive with the main property. Guests have access to a secluded deck, external sofa and table and chairs.

Other things to note
A Gate fob will be made available to guest as well as a key.
Although a dedicated EV charger is not available there is access to an outside socket which can be used to charging an EV overnight, providing you have a proprietary UK 3 pin plug charge adapter cable for your EV (a small additional charge applies for this facility, further details available on booking, or message us).
No additional over night guests are permitted and we politely request that noise is kept to a minimum between 11pm and 7am.

No access is permitted to other areas in the grounds (other than listed) without prior explicit authorisation from the hosts.
Use of outdoor facilities are at your own risk in all respects.

There is an external bin house for general rubbish as well as recycle bags. These will be emptied on Mondays. Please make an effort to separate recycling.
