Charming Bed and Breakfasts in The-Lizard

Quilkyn Hollow is a 1920s barn conversion in the beautiful hamlet of Tresowes, just minutes from the A389 and the south coast beaches. The house provides a quiet leafy retreat and a great base from which to explore this end of Cornwall, whether by car, foot, or bicycle.

It's a magical place and I'm really pleased to be able to share it with others.

The space
I have two double guest rooms with a shared bathroom. This listing is for Room 1 (please see my other listing for details of Room 2).

Room 1 is on the first floor and is the larger of the two rooms. The décor has a loft-space feel. This room is in the attic space but the ceiling is standard height above and around the bed.

The room has a standard double bed with fluffy mattress topper, squishy pillows and duvet, cotton bedlinen and a fleece blanket for the odd chilly night (although we don’t have many of these). Each room has a large television with Freesat. There is a built-in wardrobe with shelves and a hanging rail, a desk (although to be honest I strongly discourage work), a coffee table with chairs, and a small food preparation area with a kettle, fridge, microwave and a selection of crockery and cutlery (I will do you washing up while you are out as there is no kitchen sink for guests).

The bathroom has a bath with shower and is shared with one other room (up to 2 guests). Guests are provided with a cosy bathrobe.

There is a selection of teas and coffee with fresh milk.

Guest access
Guests have access to the large garden that surrounds the house. There are tables and chairs for guests.

There is space on the driveway for one vehicle per room, but please note this is not suitable for vehicles that are more than 5 meters long or 2 meters wide (my friend's Bongo is fine, my electrician's long wheelbase van doesn't fit).

The bathroom is shared with up to two other guests, but not with the host.

The kitchen and lounge are private and for the host use only.

During your stay
I am here if you have questions, but otherwise I keep to myself an leave you in peace to enjoy your stay.

For anything urgent the best way to get hold of me is to come and find me. I also give guests my mobile number and they can contact me via Air BnB messages.

Other things to note
I am sorry I am unable to accommodate guests with mobility issues due to UK fire safety laws. This is to keep guests safe as they need to be able to exit the house safety in an emergency and the property sadly doesn't facilitate this.

There are six concrete steps leading down to the property that do not have a hand rail so guests would need to be able to navigate these safely without assistance.

The house is in a largely residential area so please be respectful of the neighbours. The rooms are fairly well sound-proofed but be mindful of loud conversations in the hallway when other people might still be sleeping. Please turn televisions and music down to a sociable level after 11pm and before 8am.

The kitchen is not available to guests. There are two reasons for this. The first is that the kitchen isn't of a standard suitable for paying guests and I could be closed down by the HSE. The second is that insurance for guests to use a kitchen is quite expensive. I try to keep my prices, and costs, as low as possible so I don't have this. This is just a kind request to please not ask me to make exceptions as I will always have to refuse.

I am also unable to host guests under the age of 18 due to insurance restrictions.

I am not able to accommodate dogs (or other pets) as I have a very nervous rescue cat and it just wouldn't be fair to him. From time to time people ask if they can leave dogs in their car overnight, but please don't do this. It isn't safe and my dog-loving neighbours are likely to report people.

LQBTQ+ guests and people from all backgrounds and religions are very welcome.

If there is anything you need that isn't covered in the information here please just ask.

I am not able to provide breakfast as there isn't enough demand to make it viable, but there is a fridge and microwave in your room.

A cosy, comfortable studio with its own separate entrance — a peaceful base for exploring the beautiful Cornish coast.

The space
Charming Self-Contained Annex in Coastal Porthleven

Welcome to our cosy and compact annex — a perfect little retreat for solo travellers or couples. The living area features a small double bed with a narrow walkway, making efficient use of the space while still offering comfort.

You'll find everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a TV, kettle, coat stand, and a small wardrobe. The ensuite bathroom is equipped with a large shower, toilet, and wash basin for your convenience.

Step outside to your own patio area enjoying sea-views in the distance — an ideal spot to enjoy your morning coffee or unwind in the garden after a day of exploring.

Located just a short walk from the heart of Porthleven, you'll have easy access to fantastic restaurants, cosy pubs, live music venues, and charming cafes. Local supermarkets are also nearby for anything you might need during your stay.

The stunning beach and coastline are just a 10-minute walk away — perfect for seaside strolls, sunsets, or simply soaking up the Cornish charm.

Also short walking distance to the beautiful South-West coastal path.

You’ll access the annexe through the garden via your own private, lockable entrance, completely separate from the main house.

During your stay, you're welcome to enjoy the patio space in the rear garden.

Please note that my dog, Bee, may be around — she is very friendly, loves saying hello and is very well-behaved.

Guests have private access to the entire cabin, including a secure entry through a side gate, ensuring privacy and ease of access.

Here are the detailed directions:

1. Park on the driveway in front of the sign for The Cabin.

2. Push the grey side gate open.

3. Walk down 4 steps and follow the path.

4. Walk past the annex on your left and continue down the path to the cabin.

5. The door will be locked with the key in the lock.

Please be careful along the garden path as it can become a little slippery in wet weather.

Dog on Premises:

We have a dog that will be in the garden from time to time. If you don’t like dogs, let me know and I can keep him out of the garden during your stay—it's no problem.

Kitchen;

This is no kitchen. We do provide plates and cutlery if you wish to order a takeaway.

Bathroom;

There is a shower and a sink with a cold tap to brush your teeth etc. There is no running hot tap.

The garden room is bright and sunny with a. New king hypnos Bed very comfy! Your room looks out to a garden. . Close to Falmouth ‘s vibrant night life and three beaches a 20 min walk away , yet peaceful with a countryside feel at night .
Located at the bottom of a tree lined 70s cul de sac with free street parking . A small branch line train runs hourly but stops at night ensuring a good sleep.
Penmere station is 10 mins walk and links to Truro and connection to London

The space
We can assure you a very comfy bed and a hot shower. Your bedroom is on the ground floor of an unusual modern open plan 70s town house with a private entrance , small but powerful shower room , with french doors opening to a private garden. There is a simple continental breakfast (on request )and a shelf in the fridge.for your items.
(For longer stays occasional light meal prep in the kitchen could be negotiated :) . Parking on the road is free and available.
A small branch line train runs along the lane adjacent but stops at night. Most find this a surprising tucked away gem , peaceful altho. the trian runs twice an hour its quiet in between with bird song . Penmere station connects to. Truro is handy to access the west of Cornwall and London by foot

Your own check in and private first floor is accessed by a lock box , front door hallway small private shower room and private garden. You have access to the kitchen on the second floor for a buffet continental breakfast if requested and fridge freezer to store perishable food

of other activities gardens to visit and other activities to get involved in. It’s a good pivot point to access the countryside and West Cornwall beyond being close to the Penmere train station.and SWCP.

This room is bright and spacious, with an enormous, supremely comfortable super-king size bed. In addition, a fabulous built in loft bed, suitable for an older child, teenager or adult is available. A super new en-suite shower is also included.

The space
We have been welcoming guests into our home for several years now and...we enjoy it as much as our guests :o)

The room we are offering has been newly designed and refurbished for 2015. It is fresh, thoughtfully decorated and detailed with lots of handcrafted touches, giving your room a unique yet homely feel.

Falmouth itself has plenty to offer: from our home, you can walk to three of Falmouth's main beaches or discover the many smaller ones that lay hidden around the coastline. You can also stroll through Falmouth's bustling historic town and observe life on the 3rd largest natural harbour in the world.

Regular ferry trips will transport you along picturesque estuaries then land you at many of the fascinating and historical points of interest, including Trelissick Gardens, 'The Ferryboat Inn', and the wonderful 'Pandora Inn'.

Falmouth provides lots of choice for food lovers! You can head out to dinner at any number of popular restaurants offering a variety of cuisines. We can advise you if needed.

For evening entertainment, there's also plenty to choose from: theatre, live music, cinema or you can simply watch the sun slip down into the ocean :o)

Wander home at the end of the evening and you can fall into a restful and well made bed with natural bedding, crisp cotton, good quality linen and gorgeously plump and comfortable pillows.

As your hosts, we are always on hand to offer you tips on places to go and transport options. Passionate about the environment and the great outdoors, we are more than happy to suggest places off the beaten track.

Packed lunches are available on request and there will often be tasty home- baked surprise treats for you to enjoy.

Our home is centrally located. A regular bus service stops close by with several train stations within walking distance.

This is a small cosy, wood clad net loft has a woodburner, a Belfast sink, and a kettle and toaster. Outside there is a hot outdoor shower and private flower filled sunny courtyard. It is situated within 2 minutes walk of the beach, the peir and the surf break, Porthleven is a vibrant community with well known local restaurants, bars, coffee shops and craft stalls. It is also situated on the south west coast path and from the front door you can walk towards the Lizard or Land's end.

The space
The net loft is located to the rear of our house and has its own private courtyard with outdoor table and chairs. In the main room there is a queen size bed (small double) and a small worktop with a toaster, a kettle and a fridge. The loo is in a separate room off the courtyard and the hot shower is alfresco- in the courtyard protected from view by a bamboo screne, perfect for when you come off the beach.

Overlooking the luscious landscape of Predannack downs, Lana’s Lodge is positioned in the heart of the picturesque village of Mullion. The accommodation sleeps four people and is the perfect “home from home”. A short walk in either direction and you could be dipping your toes at Pollurian beach, or admiring the dramatic views of Mullion Harbour. With outside storage for wetsuits and surfboards along with hot outside shower. Lana’s Lodge is the ideal base for an action packed family holiday
