NEW gorgeous open floor plan barn cabin for rent. Beautiful Kickapoo Valley location with excellent fishing and wildlife right outside your door. A quiet place to relax yet close to many activities for the whole family. Bike Trails, Kickapoo River Canoeing & Kayaking. Spring brings the ephemerals. Wildflowers push their way through the leaves on the forest floor, and with them, the delicacies of spring—morel mushrooms, fiddlehead ferns, and ramps. Hundreds of bird species begin their migration up the Mississippi Flyway and through contiguous forests. Trout fishing begins and turkey hunters prowl the woods.
The Driftless Area is known for its trout streams. Class I streams like Timber Coulee that flows from Westby through Coon Valley towards Chaseburg, or the West Fork of the Kickapoo River, flowing through Bloomingdale and Avalanche, have the type of high quality waters to sustain natural populations of brook and brown trout.
Road Touring
A favorite activity of both visitors and residents is a leisurely drive through the countryside, along roads that wind through farmsteads, natural areas, and small towns. Whether the lacy green of early spring, the greens and golds of summer, the riot of fall colors, or the still white of winter, the colors and hues of the landscape are definitely worth the trip and you will always remember your Wisconsin road tours in the Driftless area.
The Driftless Wisconsin Road Tours Experience
You can enjoy the small family farms, the traditional barns (fast disappearing), and the dairy herds that graze up to the forest’s edge. You can drive along a river’s edge, and see sand hill cranes in a courting dance, or bald eagles filling the trees like regal ornaments. You can stop in a small town for a bite to eat, shop for a hand-crafted art object, or fill a bag to the brim with local produce.
- "This is the 3rd year in a row a group of us have stayed at Rick’s cabin. We locked ourselves out and he was there within minutes. Set back in the middle of nowhere. So peaceful and quiet. Just what we needed. Beautiful cabin in a beautiful setting." - "We had a wonderful relaxing stay! - "Fantastic cabin with an unbelievable view. I will be back!" - "This property gave us too many reasons to just stick around the cabin each day. Mornings were spent drinking too much coffee as we watched live unfold in the review valley below. Kids kept busy on the hammocks, playground and general property. A late day bonfire was a staple so coals were ready for after dinner s'mores. Inside was also great. The windows flood the interior with light and give continued access to the phenomenal view. We really enjoyed our time at this special property."

The cabin is set in the beautiful hills and valleys of the driftless area where time slows down and as quietness settles in. A note for those unaccustom to some country roads, you will be on gravel roads for several miles as you approach the cabin. Well worth the car wash when you get home." - "Very nice property to simply relax and enjoy nature."

Vireo – named for the warbling vireo that nested on the porch – is the most spacious and home-like cabin at Driftless Creek. Vireo is a private modern cabin in a wooded setting, with hiking trails on-site, close to Viroqua. Vireo features furnishings in aqua-blue, lime green, and shades of gray. Highlights of Vireo include ample seating around a wood stove, a piano, porches on 3 sides (one screened-in), and a fully equipped kitchen with seating for 4 at the kitchen bar. Vireo sleeps 7.
Driftless Creek offers light-filled, clean-lines, full-amenity modern cabins, each private from the other, nestled in the woods 15 minutes from Viroqua. Down a scenic dirt road, and up a steep private driveway, you will enter our 75 acres of ridgetop forest between two spring-fed streams. We offer 2 miles of trails on property for hiking, mountain-biking, or snowshoeing. Adjacent state natural areas on 3 sides enhance the remote wilderness feeling. The quiet is restorative and the dark nights are perfect for star-gazing. This really might be the place where you pick up a book or a well-maintained ukulele or guitar we provide, or let the hours go by in a hammock on the screened porch.
We are known for top-quality comfort, including memory foam mattresses with 100% cotton and down bedding, glass and tile showers with a heated bathroom fan, Jøtul wood stoves inside and fire rings outside with seasoned firewood at the ready, and heating and cooling options that keep you cozy no matter the season. Our wifi is commercial grade. Our water is sourced from a deep well and filtered. And our kitchens are stocked with everything you need, including a dishwasher, coffee maker, coffee grinder, and local coffee beans. Our cabins are sparkling clean and we guarantee that everything on premises is fully operational.
Driftless Creek offers a place for you to gather yourself, your family, your friends, and even your pets, surrounded by the abundance and peace of nature and all that the area has to offer. Whether it is the beautiful rolling hills, the trout streams, the inspired food offerings, or the charming towns, we look forward to hosting you in the Driftless area of Wisconsin.
The kitchen includes a full-size refrigerator, electric stove and range, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, coffee grinder, dishes and cooking supplies.
A Weber gas grill is available for your use on the porch.
Full size washer and dryer units available for your use are in the closet of the first-floor bedroom.
We have commercial grade WIFI, with fiber optic cable run to the property, with 100Mbit downloads, allowing you to stream movies or videoconference. There is no TV in the cabin.
Beds include a California king bed in the first-floor bedroom. The spacious loft includes two queen beds and one twin bed.
The large screened in porch is accessible via the side door and has additional seating, a dining table and chairs, and a hammock.
Bed linens, towels and extra blankets are provided.
Because the cabin is shaded, the ceiling fan is often sufficient for cooling, and we also provide a high capacity window AC unit that can cool the entire cabin.
Heating includes baseboard electric heaters, with separate thermostat controls for the main living area and the first-floor bedroom.
Supplemental heat is provided by a Jøtul wood stove. (with all fire starting materials and ample seasoned wood)
We love our canine friends, and your dog is welcome and will enjoy walking on the trails. (2 dogs max)
We have two other cabins on our property, all very private and not visible to each other. Expect it to be very quiet, and very dark with views of the stars at night. Our closest neighbor is a mile away.
We plow and salt our private drive after snowfalls but all-wheel drive or 4x4 vehicles can be helpful in the winter.
- "Second trip to the cabin, most relaxing week of our year." - "We spent the whole first day by the fire! Beautiful scenery. Songbirds. The cabin is everything we could hope for. Very comfortable. Area trout streams and the town of Viroqua where great places to explore. I've never been to Vernon County but now it's my new favorite place. I will be back and staying at the Vireo Cabin. Highly recommend." - "Looking for a peaceful place to rest, retreat, recuperate, relax, reconnect , and rejuvenate this is it. We made lots of great memories, playing in the yard swinging on the swing hiking playing in the yard, playing the instruments. Only suggestion would be having a baby gate for the stair case otherwise perfect place. We had the best time but it's never long enough. ( my chief complaint)"
