Right on the water within the city of Oslo
Cabin
Oslo, Norway

- Beach house within the city of Oslo
- Located right on the water
- Excellent opportunities for swimming, diving and fishing from the property
- Only 12 minutes by bus from Oslo city centre
- Uniquely attractive place to stay in all seasons

Welcome to stay in our fantastic waterfront fjord cottage! It is located within the city limits of Oslo, and it is a truly rare kind of property in the city landscape. You will be staying right on the water (literally only a couple of metres away) and the property has a long shoreline with excellent opportunities for swimming, diving, kayaking, and boating. Uniquely attractive place to stay in all seasons!

The property is located only 12 minutes by bus away from the centre of Oslo, and there are frequent bus departures from just outside the property from early morning to late evening.

OUTDOOR AREA
The charming outdoor area has 180 degrees of stunning views of the fiord and its islands.

There is an outdoor kitchen with a gas grill, an outdoor hot-water shower, a heat lamp, a dining area, reclining chairs and much more.

There is a boat and a kayak available for rent.

THE INTERIOR
The fjord cottage was built at a time when the City of Oslo still permitted construction right on the water. Such construction is no longer allowed, rendering this a particularly rare and unique property.

The interior has later been re-designed by architect Andreas Tingulstad. While the fjord cottage is not very large, the design strives to make the most out of every cubic millimeter.

The interior is modern, has specially designed furniture, and is well lit with lighting from Expo Nova. A combined heat pump and air conditioning unit ensures comfortable indoor temperatures around the year.

The kitchen has a Miele induction cooktop, an oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer, a coffee machine, knives, china, and glassware.

In the living room, there is a flatscreen TV. The dining area (which can actually seat up to 10 persons) has a panoramic alcove with an 180 degree view of the Oslo fjord, including its islands and the buildings of downtown Oslo.

The bathroom features Bisazza mosaic, sandblasted glass and Philippe Stark interior design.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
There is a bedroom with four bunk beds, and also a mezzanine sleeping loft which sleeps up to four people in two comfortable double beds. The loft is perched above the living area and is accessed by a ladder. Each bed features an overhead ceiling window which offers the opportunity to fall asleep right under the stars.

There are light-proof roller blinds on every window. Used in conjunction with the air conditioning, it makes it easy to regulate both light and temperature even in the middle of summer.

The fjord cottage is ideal for couples, families and groups of up to four or five friends. It can technically sleep up to eight people, but the sleeping arrangements become intimate if there are that many guests.

UNIQUELY ATTRACTIVE IN ALL SEASONS
While this property is a heavenly place to spend time by the sea in the warmer part of the year, it is a uniquely attractive place to stay in all seasons. The immediate vicinity to the water provides for stunning views in all kinds of weather. Some winters, the fiord is covered by ice thick enough to allow skating, skiing, ski sailing and kite snowboarding. The combination of heated floors and the powerful heat pump ensures comfortable indoor temperature all winter long.

GUEST ACCESS
Guests have access to our beautiful garden, and to the fantastic swimming, diving and fishing opportunities that are available from the property.

As mentioned above, guests may also rent a kayak or boat from us. (In the interest of safety, rental presupposes that you have previous experience with kayaking or boating.)

FAQ:

* What to expect from the cabin: this is an experience for those who are used to / open to adventure in the woods. This is a primitive cabin with not much of the luxuries of modern life which means you have to get water from a well, make a fire, walk about an hour to get to the cabin, and use an outhouse. There is no dishwasher or modern shower.

The cabin is an active, not a passive experience. Please keep this in mind. The cabin is a wonderful experience if you are open to the simple life. If you’ve never been in the woods before this cabin is probably not for you.

* How do we get to the cabin? From Oslo Central Station, you take the metro to Frognerseteren Station. From there it is about a one hour walk / half an hour ski trip / 20 minute bike ride. Total time from Oslo Central Station: 1 to 2 hours. Bring good shoes and a backpack. You can also drive to Frogneresteren and walk the same way from there. If you have an electric vehicle you can charge your car at Frognerseteren. In winter it is easiest to cross-country ski to the cabin, but you can also walk along the ski-trail (just make sure you do not step in the track)

* Can you drive to the cabin? No

* Can you drink the water from the well and from the lakes without boiling it? From the well yes, but from the lake you should boil it.

* Is there running water in the cabin? No, you get water from the well.

* Is the well frozen in winter? Yes. But there is a drill to drill hole in the ice to get water.

* What supplies must we bring? Bring sleeping bags, personal soap and hygiene items, all food and drink you are going to eat, napkins/paper towels, lighters or match sticks, paper to light fires (newspapers are the best). Also bring plastic bags for garbage. Note: try to bring as little potential garbage with you as possible. Bring solid back packs (not trolley suitcases), good shoes for walking in - you may also need to bring crampons depending on the weather.

* Do we need to bring water containers? No, there are plenty in the cabin.

* Do we need to bring candles? Yes. We recommend tall candles rather than tealights as they are safer and give better light.

* Do we need to bring towels? Yes

* Is there a toilet? Yes, an outhouse. Toilet paper is provided.

* A shower? Yes, heat up water on the stove or have a bath in the lake.

* What would the temperature be inside the cabin in winter? It can be anywhere between -20 and +25 degrees, depending on the outside temperature and your ability to use the wood stove.

* What about lights on the trail? There is no artificial lighting on the trail so if you plan on trekking at night or arriving to the cabin late please bring a flash light or a head lamp.

* What appliances are electricity run? There are heaters in the cabin that are run by electricity. There is also an electric cooking stove and the lighting is electric. In winter, the heaters do not provide enough heat, so you will need to light a fire in the fireplace/stoves. We also recommend lighting candles for extra light.

* How likely are we to see wildlife? There are moose nearby and birds, badgers, deer, lynx, squirrels, mice, rabbits and foxes in the area.

* How far is it to the supermarket? It’s about four kilometres (1-2 hours on foot, each way). We reccommend buying food supplies for your whole stay on your way into the cabin. The easiest solution is to buy food from the supermarket (Kiwi or Joker) in Oslo Central Station. NOTE: The supermarket is not open on sundays.

* Are there any tourist locations or guest houses nearby? Yes. The cabin is close (about 1 km) to Skjennungstua, a guest house where you can buy food. Skjennungstua's opening times vary with the season. Skjennungstua offers delicious home baked bread and other baked goods. There are also many other guest house further away if you wish to venture deeper into the forest. Just follow the trail signs or use openstreetmap(dot)org.

* Is it possible to have a campfire? Campfires are not allowed on the cabin grounds.

* How can we grill / barbecue? There is a barbecue pit right by the cabin, on the trail. You can grill there.

* How does the sauna work? The sauna is wood-fueled. Burn wood in the oven and pour water/snow on top of the rocks to make steam. The sauna can reach temperatures of 110 degrees celsius. To reduce temperature, just open the door or window.

* What about firewood? There is firewood in the cabin. Every bag of firewood you use costs NOK 200,- In the summer there is not much need to use firewood except for in the sauna or to create a nice atmosphere in the cabin. You can pay for firewood either by transferring money through Vipps or I will request money via VRBO.

* Is there a manual to show us how to use the fireplaces, use the outhouse etc.? yes, there is a manual in the cabin. If you choose to hire a cabin guide he/she will also show you how to do this.

* Can we go fishing in Skjennungen Lake? Yes, but you will need a fishing permit card. This can be found at the following website: ofa (dot) no/OmOFA/Kj%C3%B8pfiskekorther.aspx

* How can we ask for help? If there is an emergency, call
110 : Fire department
112 : Police operations centers
113 : Emergency medical communications center

• Fill outhouse bucket with bark/npine needles form outside (information given in manual).

• Lock the cabin, sauna, guest house, woodshed and outhouse.

Oslo forest cabin
Cabin
Viken

Keep it simple at this peaceful and centrally-located place. This simple, yet cozy cabin is remarkably close to Oslo, while still in the forest. Only a bike ride away from the city itself.

The cabin is a work in progress, and has a quite low standard, but it is a place we love to use while we upgrade it bit by bit by ourselves. Some rooms are therefore unfinished, while others are ready to use. :-)

Located a short walk from Lilloseter, this is a unique way to experience the Oslo forest.

The space
A nice little cabin in the woods with simple standard. The cabin is still a bit in progress, and we (+3 young kids) use it as our place to stay when visiting family and friends in Oslo (we live in Bergen.)

We upgrade it as much as possible every time we are there. The standard is therefore varying from a nice living room to the unfinished entrance area.

It's located a short hike from Lilloseter, which is easily accessible by bike (or even foot) from Oslo. We usually use our e-bikes when we are there. It's about 40-55 minutes on an e-bike from the city center, of course depending on the bike and your biking level.

Please note that this cabin is in the middle of the forest and not accessible by car. Only by bike or on foot.

We have beds and duvets, but no towels and linen. There are no cleaning services here so you have to do everything yourself - even handling your waste.

There are quite extensive check in instructions covering all the things necessary to know - which can be a lot when staying in a simple forest cabin. :-)

Other things to note
It's important to know that this is not a luxury cabin. It's a simple cabin in the woods. There's electricity, but no drinking water, and only a small sink with a tap to wash dishes etc.

Some knowledge about staying in the forest, getting around, and simple living is adviceable.

There's no linen, so bring your own. We do pillows and duvets though.

There is no cleaning service here, so please tidy everything as you would in your own place. :-)

Amenities:

Hangers • Books and reading material • Room-darkening shades • Outdoor shower • Children’s dinnerware • Crib • Children’s books and toys • Clothing storage • Board games • Cleaning products

Unique seafront property in Oslo
Cabin

- Beach house within the city of Oslo
- Located right on the water
- Excellent opportunities for swimming, diving and fishing from the property
- Only 12 minutes by bus from Oslo city centre
- Uniquely attractive place to stay in all seasons

The space

There is an outdoor kitchen with a gas grill, a heat lamp, a dining area, reclining chairs and much more.

The dining area (which can actually seat up to 10 persons) has a panoramic alcove with an 180 degree view of the Oslo fjord, including its islands and downtown Oslo.

The bathroom features Bisazza mosaic, sandblasted glass and Philippe Stark interior design.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
There is a bedroom with a double bed, and there is a mezzanine sleeping loft which sleeps up to four people in two comfortable double beds.

It can sleep up to six people, but the sleeping arrangements become intimate if there are many guests.

Guests have access to a beautiful outdoor area, and to the fantastic swimming, diving and fishing opportunities that are available from the property.
