About Us:
Grouse Haven Cabin was built in 2003-2004 by the current owners. The cabin was named Grouse Haven because while we were building we could hear the Grouse birds in the area “drumming”. The cabin is secluded in a red pine forest with lots of Mother Nature in its surroundings. There are trails for hiking and cross-country skiing. There is also a picnic area located at the lower end of the 90-acre property that you can get to by hiking trails. The cabin is located in the heart of the Finger Lakes with close proximity to Penn Yan, Hammondsport, Watkins Glen, 2-3 miles to Keuka Lake State Park, the Finger Lakes wineries, micro breweries, Keuka college, and more.

- "very nice spot, very quiet, close to area amenities" - "Visited the Finger Lakes for a few days. Location in Penn Yan was perfect; not too far from Keuka and Seneca Lakes. Nearby towns offered plenty of options for restaurants & stores. Relatively quick, scenic drives to and around the lakes. The cabin was as advertised. It is small with few amenities but clean and in a great location. We enjoyed being able to walk right to the outlet rail trail each morning to get a few miles in before we hit the wineries. We did not spend much time at the property itself, but the grounds were taken care of and the owners provided lawn activities & a nice fire pit. While the bathroom & shower are outside of the cabin, they are clean and were not an inconvenience to us. The cabin is near a “main road” but we barely heard/saw any traffic. It was very quiet. The listing’s pictures and descriptions are very accurate…what you see is what you get. The owner was very responsive & made sure we had everything we needed."

Kitchen has silverware, dishes for 6 as well as pots and pans for cooking. Enjoy cooking outside on the Weber grill, LP gas included. This property is located just 7 miles south of Geneva NY and Hobart and William Smith College. Enjoy 7 local wineries within 5 miles of the property. We are just a half mile from Fox Run Vineyards and walking distance to Weavers-View Farm Barn Weddings. There is also an additional 3 season space fully enclosed with windows all around. Other items included are stove/oven, refrigerator,microwave. Roy's Marina has boat rentals just a short distance away, so you can enjoy fishing, skiing or tubing on the lake. Nothing can be tied to the dock due to destruction of the dock and watercraft. I have one smaller spare boat hoist that can handle up to 16 or 17 foot boat
We have outside security surveillance for the security of our property and insurance purposes. There are NO cameras inside any part of the residence. We have two cameras, one is located off the back ( driveway Side of the house) and one is located off the basement door and covers that area.

The space:
Vintage decor and hand-plastered walls combine with brand-new furnishings and an open floor plan to provide a uniquely relaxing atmosphere. (The cottage was built in 2022. Please note, that the final exterior layer of plaster on the outside of the cottage is being completed this summer. This will not impact your stay whatsoever).

Walk to the cottage from the private driveway along a short 100' path. We provide a cart to make it easier for you to carry your luggage. There are two wide steps to climb which bring you to the large covered porch.

Outside, enjoy the porch with chairs, table, a double and a single hammock, new (in 2024) propane grill and fire pit with Adirondack chairs (wood is provided).

Upon entering the cottage, a small nook framed in repurposed local barn wood provides a bench and hooks to hang your coat and leave your shoes. To your left are stairs to the LOFT, complete with an all-natural mattress, bamboo pillows and cotton sheets. Two windows, an open-style railing, a view of the living room and high ceilings in the middle of the loft ensure a spacious and cozy feel. **Please note, the stairs to the loft are steeper than normal steps. We suggest using the railing.

Windows surround the LIVING ROOM, a couch and chaise lounge, invite you to relax. The wood stove provides a cozy atmosphere and plenty of warmth for winter renters. Fiber optic WIFI with a wireless router keeps you connected for streaming to your favorite shows or working remotely.
**Extra Bed: The couch can be used as a twin bed for sleeping upon request for linens.

The full KITCHEN has a refrigerator, freezer, gas stove, gas oven, tea kettle, pots, pans, cookware, silverware, dishes, toaster oven, dish towels, oil, basic spices, organic coffee, french press and organic tea (Note: there is no microwave and only hand towels - NOT paper towels - are provided).

Off the living space is a full BATHROOM, complete with a large tiled shower, sink, vanity, toilet and shelves to store your toiletries. A bath towel, hand towel and washcloth are provided for each guest. All natural hand and body soaps are also provided.

HEAT/AC: HEAT is provided by a large space heater or the wood stove. Guests should plan to use the stove if temps are below 20 degrees. Wood for the wood stove is provided. There is no AC in the cottage, although the 12-inch thick straw-and-plaster walls are built to naturally keep the temperature comfortable in both summer and winter, and all the windows are operable.

The GROUNDS and Property: The cottage is on the grounds of our farm, Wellspring Forest Farm, a small family-run agroforestry farm producing mushrooms, pastured lamb and maple syrup. In warmer months, the sheep occasionally graze near the cottage as they rotate through our 20 acres.

A short distance from the front of the cottage, there is a .8-mile NATURE TRAIL available all year round to cottage guests (seasonally, the trail can be very wet). The trail is used occasionally by guests of our other rental from May - October; "Secluded Cozy Yurt Finger Lakes, Grill & Fire Pit," ourselves and neighbors.

Farm tours are available by request for $40-$80/group and last about 60 minutes. Meet the sheep, see the mushrooms, taste the sap (depending on the season.)

Other things to note:
About straw bale construction: Straw bale buildings are earth-friendly and provide excellent insulation and the ability to moderate temperature, staying cooler in summer and toasty warm in winter. As in this cottage, straw bales are usually covered in multiple layers of earthen clay plaster, with each layer (from the inside out) getting smoother and more refined. Almost all the construction materials (straw, clay, sand, wood) in this cottage have been sourced locally, from within 80 miles. No plywood or pressure-treated wood was used in the construction. Strawbale buildings are known to create a very healthy environment because the clay literally purifies the ambient indoor air and humidity. The plastered walls, with their natural textures and velvet-like appearance, make for a calming and soft living space.

Welcome to the brand new Rivers Edge Cabin just minutes from downtown Geneva. With a ten minute drive you'll find many great wineries, restaurants, and entertainment spaces. Find yourself relaxing in the screened in porch enjoying the private scape on the canal. Our 90 foot dock can accommodate multiple boats at no extra cost to you. A Perfect place to access Cayuga or Seneca Lake. We offer two kayaks, a firepit and dock chairs, also all included in the rental!
The space
Expect to find a clean and neat space to unwind on your vacation. The cabin is brand new creating a fresh comfortable space to enjoy. There are no shared spaces so you will have full access to the cabin and all of its amenities including parking spaces for your boats and vehicles.
Guest access
We offer self check in and will provide clear instructions to make it easy as possible upon arrival. We will be reachable through the VRBO app at anytime and encourage you to reach out with any questions to ensure you get the most out of your vacation hassle free. The Mill Creek Cabins experience is quite unique and special. As you arrive, you'll pass wineries, the beautiful Finger Lakes (either Seneca or Cayuga), Amish buggies, and finally you'll find the Cabins among the Finger Lakes National Forest. Check-in is a breeze and you'll notice that you are one of only three groups who are enjoying the property. You'll start your evening by grilling up some burgers and enjoying the porch. You might take a dip in the hot tub before settling in by the fire pit. Plenty of firewood and charcoal are available for purchase.

When you wake up the next morning, Mary from Taste of Wine Country Cafe will deliver your breakfast. Not a morning person? She'll drop the order on your front porch and you can get it when you roll out of bed. Coffee maker comes with coffee, creamer and sugar. If you are a morning person, maybe you'll enjoy a hike! There's a one mile path around the perimeter of the 40 acre property.

There's so much to do in the Finger Lakes during the day. Lodi is located between Seneca and Cayuga lakes. Mill Creeks Cabins is surrounded by the Finger Lakes National Forest. While it feels completely remote, the beginning of the Seneca Wine trail is less than 5 miles (9 minutes) away. When you get back, you might take advantage of the yard games like volleyball, yard darts, bocce ball, and croquet. After all that activity, you'll probably want to settle in with a movie - each cabin has access to Netflix, Hulu and Disney +, and you can sign into any of your own systems. Or, go a little retro and watch a DVD!

- "Our goal for this trip was to revisit the Finger Lakes area in upstate NY to see the peak fall foliage; hike to see some of the beautiful waterfalls; bike a rails-to-trail distance; walk our small pups on a trail; enjoy the scenery & local cuisine; and just relax. This cabin-in-the-woods accommodation was perfect for all of the above! We knew there would be some driving for 20-30 minutes each day, but that wasn’t a problem given the scenery! So much to see & partake. The cabin offered what we needed for comfort & convenience efficiently. There was ample space for us. The propane stove worked well on the very chilly mornings. The daily offered breakfast was just what we needed to start our day:) The hot tub was an added bonus. Our pups looked forward to a daily walk on the grassy trails beyond the three cabins. We appreciate that extra perk. We would definitely recommend the cabin! Best to use Siri to navigate in the area if not familiar with it. Super communication from the host! Response time was very fast. Thank you for the experience!"

Enjoy the woods and the water in Cabin 8! Fall asleep to the rustle of leaves and spend your day swimming, boating or fishing. This large 2-story retreats boast 550 of living space and can accommodate 6 guests. Electric and manual boat lifts available for rent.

Cabin 8 has a large master bedroom with a king bed on the second floor and a full bathroom with walk-in shower on the first floor. Additional bedroom on ground floor has two twin beds. Pull out couch in living room for extra guests.

Comfortable seating area with TV for relaxing indoors, or gather around your outdoor fire pit to toast marshmallows. Includes a covered porch with seating area, as well as a picnic tables and space for outdoor entertaining. Cabin 8 is located on the hillside over the lake, and it is an approximately 3 minute walk down the driveway and the staircase to access the water. Guests with 4-wheel and all-wheel drive can use the boat ramp to drop off guests or boating gear via our boat ramp. 1 reserved parking space. (More available by request and availability.)

Everyone staying at the property can enjoy our private beach, WiFi, and DirecTV. Stay cool on even the hottest days with air conditioning or cuddle up with our propane, electric heaters, or wood stoves. (Varies by site.)

We provide all of the linens and bath towels you need for your stay, as well as paper products to get you started. Our kitchenettes include microwaves, gas stove tops, refrigerators/freezers, coffee makers, pots, pans, dishes and silverware. The Spotted Sandpiper is located in the woods with frontage on Cayuga Lake and bugs love the woods and water! They're savvy at finding their ways indoors (these are cabins after all). If the bugs are ever "bugging" you, we're always happy to help.

"The Red Tail" is a spacious 2- bedroom cabin located in the heart of the Fingerlakes in Upstate New York. (3000 County Road 143, Interlaken) If you are looking to get away from noise and enjoy the solitude of nature, this is the place for you! The cabin is close to hiking trails in the Fingerlakes National Forest and wineries and breweries on both Cayuga and Seneca Lake. Close proximity to Trumansburg, Lodi and Ovid and 17 miles to Watkins Glen and Ithaca.

My partner and I have stayed at many places with kitchenettes and there is typically always something missing - so we always come prepared. But this cabin had things like dish soap, a new sponge, matches and tender for the grill/firepit outside along with many other details all taken care of! The property had its own set of walking trails and despite nearby hiking trails being quite muddy the ones on property were not! The property manager replied promptly to all queries and our stay was perfect!"

Cabin 2 sleeps 6 in 2 ground floor bedrooms (2 double beds) and 1 loft space accessible by a ladder (double bed). Kitchen renovated in winter 2019 with granite counters, full oven/stove, fridge, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. Cabin 2 has a full bathroom, TV, dining table and seating area. Sleeps 6.

Winter guests: Cabin 2 is available for rental year-round, but guests using the property in snowy/icy weather need 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles to come down our 1/2 mile private road. It's kept plowed, but these vehicles are needed for the elevation change.

- "We stayed for 3 nights in one of the cabins closest to the water. We had 4 teenagers and everyone had a great time. The kids used the numerous paddleboards available and also fished off the pier for hours. It is only 20 minutes from Ithaca and 30 minutes from Watkins Glen so it was a great location to explore all of the hiking and waterfalls in the area. Taughannock falls park and beach is less than 10 minutes away. The cabin was rustic but with all of the modern amenities. We only really spent time in there to sleep. Each cabin has a full size gas grill and a small but functional kitchen. Jordan was a great host and provided everything needed for the stay. The kids thought the bed in the loft was cool, but the tallest in the group couldn't get up there comfortably. The wifi was great because a lot of the area has spotty wireless coverage. So navigate to where your going before you leave. As others have mentioned it is a lot of steps to get down to the shore, but noone in our group had a problem. We all had an amazing time and have already recommended Spotted Sandpiper to others."

Get away from it all when you stay under the stars. This is a beautiful off grid cabin located out in nature. It’s a one room cabin with two queen sized beds. There is no running water, however a portable restroom is at the cabin. 12V lighting & USB ports for charging phones. Enjoy the scenic views from the outdoor fire pit or on the screened in porch!
