- "This lovely renovated boathouse delights with gorgeous views of Tupper Lake as well as creature comforts. It was perfect for our group of 4 (2 couples). The Adirondack themed furniture was a cut above in comfort. The kitchen was likewise better equipped than most rentals we have stayed in providing everything needed for preparing meals. We would definitely consider renting The Boathouse for future stays." - "The cabin was the perfect setup for boating. It was great being able to park my boat under the cabin out of the rain and weather. The owner was very accommodating and responded to all our inquiries. The cabin came equipped with all basic necessities, and the decor was quintessential Adirondack style. So much care and detail was put into decorating the cabin, and it made for a truly memorable vacation. Our family enjoyed one full week of boating and fishing on the lake. There is a huge fire pit that our boys used to make s’mores. We took a few trips to town for donuts at the Washboard and ice cream at the Skyline. We loved being on the water, and enjoyed nightly visits from a couple of loons. We made a trip to nearby Blue Mountain Lake to visit the Adirondack museum. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!"

The kitchen was fully stocked with plenty of pans and spices. The media room was terrific! The house itself is a beautiful example of the storied ADK great camps with modern conveniences. Lastly, Huda was very quickly responsive to all my questions." - "This was a great property to stay on. Lots of room inside the house with all the amenities you could ask for. We were on the private beach everyday, the kids loves playing in the sand/water while the adults hung out in the dock. The kayaks were put to good use as well as the fire pit by the lake. - "The home is well maintained and equipped with all essentials, plus more. It’s situated in a beautiful community with polite and friendly neighbors, but guests should be mindful of property lines and aware that noise travels easily along the lake. The community beach is steps away, and is great for swimming and boat access. There are many good nearby hikes, plus attractions in Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake and Lake Placid. The home itself is a unique gem. It’s extensive decor reflects the rich history of the Adirondacks and adds to the experience of visiting the region."

The cabin is surrounded by pine trees, has a stunning view of Middle Saranac Lake, and amenities to make it comfortable for folks who don't like camping, while rustic enough for those that do. Located on Middle Saranac Lake and nestled into the "forever wild" ADK park, this cozy and remote getaway is perfect for quiet communing with nature and spending time with friends and family. While the cabin has basic amenities (hot water, fridge, stove top), it is only accessible only by boat (--we can leave a canoe for you). Explore the property, swim, canoe, star-gaze and enjoy the quiet power of the woods.
Update for '25: You will have to bring your own firewood and drinking water.
The space
The cabin is remote, cozy and rustic. Our stove top, refrigerator, and hot water (for showering and doing dishes) are all powered by propane. You will have to bring your own drinking water.
We have a couple of outlets (powered by solar panels) that provide enough power for cell phone and LED flashlight charging (and maybe a lap top but not much else).
Please do not inquire about the property if you need amenities beyond what's listed above.
Please keep pets off of the furniture. $400 cleaning fee will apply if not.
Failure to use the composting toilet properly results in a very very messy situation we have to clean manually. It's really very gross. If the toilet is not used properly, there will be a $500 cleaning fee.
Guest access
You'll have the whole main cabin.
We have a guest-cabin available for an additional $200/night.
Other things to note
The cabin is not accessible by land vehicle. Boat access only.
There is spotty cell service and a landline with a calling card in the cabin. You will have to bring in your own drinking water and firewood.
No dogs on any furniture. Failure to do so will result in a $400 cleaning fee for dog hair and smell. This is in reaction to some problems we've had in the past. Our turn around time is very tight so a lingering dog smell or dog hair in the corners of rooms and under beds is a problem.
Failure to use the composting toilet properly results in a very very messy situation we have to clean manually. It's really very gross. If the toilet is not used properly, there will be a $500 cleaning fee.

Discover the magic of simpler living at Birch Cove, a unique and tranquil waterfront retreat on Upper Saranac Lake. This secluded boat access camp was once the guide house for a neighboring great camp and is brimming with Adirondack history. The two primary cabins offer plenty of room for a small family, couple or a group of friends. The third cabin "bunk house" just down the trail is great for kids or overflow guests. Miles of trails, boat included, WI-FI - a modern adventurer’s paradise!
The space
Located on a remote cove overlooking historic Chapel Island, one of Upper Saranac Lake’s most beloved landmarks, this property is a traditional Adirondack boat access camp. That means it is made up of several buildings each serving a unique purpose. It is accessible May to October via boat, included in your reservation (13ft Boston Whaler, the red and white boat pictured). Additional boats may be rented at the nearby Upper Saranac Marina.
The main cabin is a 1BR 1BA with a queen memory foam bed with a ceiling fan and a stand up shower and Toto bidet toilet in the bathroom. There is a rustic “country kitchen” with a gas oven & stove, Jura coffee & espresso maker, a large pantry and a large chef’s sink. The cabinetry in the kitchen was made by hand by the home’s original owner, adding to the cabin’s rustic charm. Off the back of the kitchen leading to the back door there is a mud room with a full HE washer dryer. Outside you’ll find a Big Green Egg charcoal grill, perfect for steaks or burgers!
In the front of the main cabin is a dining table nook that seats 4 surrounded by windows and views of the forest and lake, perfect for breakfast on chilly summer mornings. The cozy living room has a working cast iron stove and a reading nook with books, board games and toys for children. Off of the living room there is a huge screened in porch with a luxe mohair sofa, a queen sized swinging bed that provides hours of lounging while listening to the loons and the lake lapping at the shore. It’s one of the most magical places to sleep in the home although we do not count this bed as a bedroom in our total counts. There is also a dining table that seats 8 on the screened in porch. Persian rugs, vintage stick work furniture, a checkers end table between two cozy chairs, and of course a western facing view of the lake means cocktail hour will be your favorite part of the day!
Steps off the back door from the main cabin is the second cabin, also known as the “sleeping cabin.” This cabin also has a porch with a rocking chair for enjoying lake views and reading a book. In the cabin, there is a small mud room upon entry with hooks for jackets, hats, etc. One side of the cabin is the primary bedroom with a beautiful twig work canopy bed with a queen memory foam mattress that will make you feel like you are sleeping in the forest — which, surrounded by pristine forever wild wilderness, you are. There is also an antelope hide reading chair and a small desk facing a window with stunning Lake views that will make your remote work fly by! In the other bedroom in this cabin there is a twin bunk bed with whimsical floral linens and a twig work crib. There’s plenty of storage here for luggage and clothes as well as a lake view out this room as well. Each room has an in wall heater in case it is chilly on those cooler summer nights as well as ceiling fans for the rare time it is warm at night.
Down the trail about 500 feet is the third cabin, the bunk house that has a total of 6 twin beds with linens and a seating area. This is perfect for overflow guests, or older teens who don’t mind a short hike to their accommodations and like the idea of a cool hangout in the woods! There is a ceiling fan in this cabin but no heater. There is also an outhouse a few steps away from this cabin.
Outdoors are where the magic continues. Just off the back of the mud room is a trail system that offers miles of well-marked trails throughout the property. Along the trails, you’ll cross through stunning hemlock forests, mossy paths, fern clearings, and wet weather creeks. One of the trails will also lead you to state trails that go all the way to Indian Carry, a unique footbridge and the location where the Chapel Island ferry picks up.
Down by the lake, you’ll find a fire pit area with Adirondack chairs perfect for s’mores as well as a picnic table. The boathouse is stocked with fishing gear (tackle & fly), floaties, paddling/sailing items including 2 Sunfish sailboats, a fishing kayak, 2 regular kayaks, and life vests for the whole family (even some for your four legged friends!). The cove is an excellent place to fish for small mouth (when in season) and blue gills. The dock areas are a great place for morning coffee as the fog rises from the lake, with a gorgeous view of Chapel Island. Evening cocktails are even more special when enjoyed at the top of the boathouse deck, where a 180-degree western facing panorama view of Upper Saranac Lake opens up. You’ll see loons, mergansers, bald eagles, otters, deer, beavers — all sorts of wildlife crosses along this waterway. Additionally, the Northern Forest Canoe Trail passes in front of the home, so you’ll often see paddlers headed from Bartlett to Indian Carry going by.

GETTING HERE
Located between Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake, NY there are several ways to get to this area of the Adirondacks:
1) You can fly into Albany, NY (ALB), Burlington VT (BVT) or Syracuse, NY (SYR) and drive 2.5 hours. All 3 airports have rental car options. The Burlington requires a ferry crossing. All three routes are very scenic through the Adirondacks.
2) You can fly to Montreal and drive 2 hours into the Adirondacks, note that this requires crossing the Canadian border.
3) You can also fly to NYC (JFK) or Boston airport and take a small airplane (12 seats) on an airline called Cape Air to an airport called Saranac Lake (SLK) which is 15 min from our house! SLK also has a Hertz rental car station at it but book ahead as rental cars and Cape Air flights book up in the summer. Delta and JetBlue have code shares with Cape Air that will allow you to book all the way through to SLK. Alternatively you can book the Cape Air flights directly with Cape Air. This flight is very scenic but is not great for nervous fliers as it is a small plane. If you take this route, we highly recommend bringing headphones or earplugs as the Cape Air flight can be noisy!
Guest access
You’ll have full run of the 17 acre property and nearly 200 ft of private waterfront. Plus access to state hiking trails on Forever Wild land that is adjacent to our parcel!
Other things to note
Please note this is a boat access camp. We have a dock with parking on the opposite side of the lake that is a short 3 minute boat ride to this camp. This property is truly an escape from it all, but with modern conveniences.
