- "Very good location, so private, and friendly hosts, highly recommend this place😊" - "We had a wonderful time here! The bed was comfortable, the surroundings were great, and the outdoor shower was a great addition. We will be recommending it to people in the future." - "I stayed here for two nights in February 2023 after the cyclone, so no power and many road slips. However Kate was very friendly and accommodating. It's a great spot overlooking farm/grazing land, and hard to believe only a few minutes from Whangārei. I would stay here again."

Relax and rejuvinate while staying in this warm and comfortable cabin. Set in private gardens and away from the bustle of the city up a small private road this cabin is a hidden gem. A separate toilet (portaloo style) and a utility building with kitchenette and hot shower is included.
Wifi, Freeview TV are included and private parking on site is available. Great location for Whangarei Town basin and Shops, walking distance.
Perfect for the camper vanning couple wanting a real bed for a night or two while exploring the local attractions as well as those needing a short term place to stay while on business locally.
The facilities are a little 'rustic' but perfectly functional. For a more family and business style of accomodation try our one bedroom unit called 'Connect 2' at the same address.
- "The room was comfy inside but getting into the room was quite a challenge - as there were loose mats and uneven bricks. Got to the property at the same time as another lady and it was confusing as to who was staying where (2 rentals in the same space). Would honestly just pay extra to stay elsewhere next time. Didn’t really get enough info about checking in either." - "there was 2 beds not a double bed. The bed was not made had to set up to be a double. And had everything but cups for cup of tea. "

Welcome to this modern tiny house. Peaceful and quiet amongst nature. No neighbours. This amazing property offers a serene escape with compact living. Hot water by gas and power by solar panels. This tiny house is made from SIP, "Structural Insulated Panels" and double glazing joinery. An all weather driveway is steep and more like a farm track, no problem for a competent driver. We're happy to assist with any questions.
- "The only thing was the driveway lucky I had a truck also wouldn't have been able to get up there at all with the car otherwise it was very close to the airport we were going location was great" - "Stayed two night it was very private and calm nice affordable couple get away " - "Had a lovely summer stay, completely private, great cooking facilities, and amazing sunset views over the harbour. Only potential downside was with the heat and the western orientation. the cabin gets quite warm of the afternoon/early evening. A fan would be useful to circulate the air. "

Situated on private setting on the foreshore of beautiful Kowharewa Bay.Surrounded by mature native trees and right on top of lovely beach only 25 metres away providing safe swimming, kayaking ,paddleboarding etc.Recently constructed Hut designed for "glampers" sleeps 2 people (couple) with double bed, microwave, small kitchenette, microwave, portable hob, small fridge/freezer and electric pan/bbq for outside cooking on the terrace where you can enjoy spectacular views of the Bay a stone throw away.
If you are an older person look carefully at site to know exactly what Bach Hut offers, where bathroom is (under main house) small confines etc. While younger people love it might not be so suitable for older folks.
- "Great communication from Mike, friendly and knowledgeable host. Cabin 20m from quiet beach - beautiful. Loved our stay." - "The location is stunning! The Bach is cosy but has everything you need. Mike was very gracious and helpful, providing kayaks, avocados and interesting chats. I'd definitely recommend this place for a quiet escape." - "The location is top. The set up a bit qurky with toilet and shower across the hut. And there is no kitchenette, just a corner cabinet with fridge on top, and dishes and cutlery in drawers. Microwave on top of fridge.no running water in hut"

🌿✨ Introducing Tōtaravárre ✨🌿
Tōtaravárre beautifully bridges the majestic Tōtara trees of Aotearoa, New Zealand, with the rugged Swedish mountains. “Várre,” meaning mountain in the language of the Sami people, indigenous to Scandinavia, connects our home to the ancient landscapes of Sweden, while “Tōtara” pays homage to the resilience and strength of these native New Zealand guardians.
In naming our home Tōtaravárre, we celebrate this fusion of worlds in our memories – the rugged, timeless majesty of the Scandinavian fjäll meets the lush, enduring vitality of the New Zealand bush. Mighty Tōtara trees stand high on the hill, watching over us, protecting from the wind during storms, and giving us shade.
Here, where Tui and Kereru birds sing amongst the branches, we find a link to both our heritages. Our home, flanked by Tōtara, looking out over the land, serves as a daily reminder of our commitment to this place and its history.
We are kaitiaki, guardians of this beautiful place. We are guided by those who walked these lands before us and the hope of those who will follow.
Join us in embracing the spirit of Tōtaravárre, a home that stands as a testament to the resilience of nature and the unity of cultures.
Welcome to Tōtaravárre. We look forward to sharing our sanctuary with you.
- "Relaxing and blissful. The hot bath amonst the view and tree's was a real treat. Thank you " - "Great friendly owner, clan unique experience "

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway situated 50m from the Te Araroa Trail and the Ngunguru Old Coach Cycle Trail.
Two rustic cabins surrounded by decking, country air, sea views and neighbouring kiwi bush, Cabin Fever is a place where the basics are taken care of without too much fuss, meaning you can truly relax and take a breath.
The space
There are two cabins, adjoined by an open air deck, plenty of parking and grass paddocks and bush as far as the eye can see :)
Cabin One houses the small but well-equipped kitchen with gas hobs, oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, kettle, coffee, tea, plunger and milk frother.
Cabin One also houses the lounge area (there is pretty good wireless wifi and a TV screen that you can log in to your Netflix account or chromecast to), breakfast bar, bathroom, a heat pump, and the first queen bed which is a futon-style loft bed, a ladders climb above the kitchen and bathroom. It's cosy, cute and unique :)
Cabin Two has the second queen bed in its own bedroom with undercover seating in the outdoor area to take in the view. The bedroom walks through to a sitting room with single sofa bed and a small desk. Above the sitting room in Cabin Two is a second loft area which has another loft-style queen futon bed. The three inside spaces in this cabin are seperate areas but there is no sound-barrier, so - if you're planning to fill all 3 beds - Cabin Two will be best suited to a family or friend group who are accustomed to hut-style, open-plan sleeping.
There is also the option to pitch a tent for over-flow guests on the grass arena, by arrangement. If you're interested in this option, just ask. There will be a per-person charge to cover the additional use of water, gas and electricity.
Our cute little cabin getaway on the hill is - for us - a way to escape the city and the hustle and bustle of daily life. We use it in the depths of the winter rains to read, drink tea, munch on crackers, soak in the spa pool, and otherwise just over-indulge and hibernate. We use it in summer as a base for beaching, swimming, biking, hiking and fishing, and simply sitting on the deck to enjoy the stunning rural view out to Matapouri by day and to watch the stars come up and the satellites and shooting stars pass over head to the sounds of kiwi call in the distance by night.
We don't mind that the kitchen and shower are small, that when you arrive the windows might need opening to air the place, that if you boil the kettle in winter the windows might fog-up, that spiders make webs in outside corners or that you might need a raincoat just to get to the car... And we hope you won't mind too much either.
We certainly aren't aspiring to be a hotel. Just a quaint, cosy couple of cabins where you can escape the world, listen to the birds, immerse in nature, watch the sun shine on the distant seashore or the clouds roll up the valley and enjoy a piece of northland rural paradise life - which we think is about as good as it gets.
Guest access
Both cabins will be 100% yours when you book. You won't be disturbed as we live off-site, however do feel free to get in touch by phone or message if there's anything we can help you with. We have a property manager and good relationships with neighbours nearby.
Other things to note
Cabin Fever is suitable for family and friend groups who enjoy camping-style holidays with their furry friends - albeit far more comfortable than tent camping as you have beds, kitchen, bathroom, spa pool and lots and lots of space to enjoy. The loft-beds require you to be able to climb up and down a ladder to access them, so may not be suitable for young children, disabled folks or the elderly.
The property is situated within an area of ecological importance for kiwi - there are many of them living in the bush across the road which you might hear calling in the evening as you sit on the deck enjoying the stars. While the property is dog-friendly, it's important that dogs are not left to wander, or walked off leash outside the property, so please keep the gates closed and a close eye on your furry friends at all times. We recommend that if you need to leave dogs at the property when you go out that you leash them in the enclosed outdoor area so they do not attempt to follow you.
There is a dog bed in the enclosed outdoor area which you are welcome to use - or bring your own. While we love to include them, we ask you to respect our request to keep dogs off the beds and couches at all times please, even the small ones. Thanks!
