Great little rustic 1970's bach/cabin unit for a family on the go with 2-3 kids, or two couples wanting their own rooms. One room has a nice king bed, and the other room has a double bunk - thick comfortable double bed at the bottom and single at the top. Extra futon bunk in lounge. Internal airconditioning and heating in both rooms. The cabin has a lounge and TV and it's own private deck and outdoor chairs overlooking an expansive lawn and stream at the bottom. A warm spa hot tub is right beside the deck (shared facility). Miniature kitchenette contains full fridge, microwave, frypan, toaster, jug, electric cooktop and all the pots and crockery (no conventional stove/oven). Outside on the covered deck is a nice big BBQ for summer sizzles. At the upper Lodge grounds there are great family facilities to share including volleyball, trampoline, petanque, and sandpit. Our wannabe city-farm is great for kids to feed the sheep, chickens, rabbits and the occasional piglets during feeding time. During spring we will often have chicks, piglets and lambs to pet. We are on the outskirts of town, about the same distance from city centre as the gondolas (same Auckland-side of town). So there's no traffic and no sulphur smell, but the city bus stops right at the front gate and a taxi from the pubs is still affordable! Come and take it easy in our Mountain Hideaway Cabin. The entire 3 bedroom cabin to yourself with an easy self check in. As with older Lockwoods they can be creaky. But you have all the basics for a comfortable stay. There are 2 heat pumps/air conditioners for you to use and wall panel heaters in the rooms so you will be toasty in the cooler months. Washing machine is free to use and there is a clothes line outside to hang your clothes for drying. From the deck you will have amazing views of the surrounding city, forrest and lake. We are in a quiet residential street.
Self contained cabin on the front section of our family home.
Screening is in place for your privacy.

We aim to make your stay really comfortable, while keeping it value for money for your short stay in this compact, but well-equipped cabin.
You will be provided with 6 fresh eggs from our happy back yard hens, there's a Nespresso coffee machine with complimentary coffee pods, milk, tea bags, sugar and instant coffee, and some small packets of biscuits to enjoy.
We have tried to cover all your needs-the bed is really comfortable-good quality cotton sheets, towels and toiletries, there is an extendable clothes rack in the bathroom, a hairdryer, a cooling/heating fan, folding table and chairs, cooking equipment and utensils, there are some games, a folder of local attractions, wifi and a TV with Netflix.

Sit back and relax in this rustically styled studio cabin. Well placed and within walking distance to the local laundromat, chemist, dairy and supermarket.

A short 5 minute drive will have you arrive at the Redwoods for walking or mountain biking or 10 minute drive to the central city. 20 minutes drive to picnic and swim at one of the many beautiful lakes in our area.

Studio cabin includes shower, toilet and kitchenette and also a deck area to relax outside.

The couch is a single bed for third guests.

This off-grid and self-build hut, unreachable by car, is set in a quiet, idyllic, rural landscape, overlooking rolling farmland with no another property in sight. It is situated in the middle of our 120 acre cattle farm. Solar power,a walk across rolling farmland, and a STEEP AND UNEVEN 10 MINUTE HIKE UPHILL to get to the hut, offer an authentic off-grid experience. We recommend only bringing up the bare necessities. Get your boots on and explore!

The space
This is the perfect place for those looking for something different and authentic. A perfect place for nature lovers, hikers and bikers.

Sparrows Hut is located in Atiamuri, which is at the end of The Waikato River Bike Trail, and makes it the perfect starting point for biking enthusiast.
The Hut is also only a 15 minute drive from Lake Atiamuri, which is a popular destination for waterskiing, kayaking or fishing. It is only a 30 minute drive to Rotorua and a 40 minute drive to Taupo.

Enjoy an outdoor shower on the terrace while you get a good view of the beautiful surroundings.

Drinkable spring water flows fresh and filtered from the taps. We produce our electricity with solar and gas. You can charge your devices (phone or laptop) but care needs to be taken not to drain the batteries. There is a flue gas heater (directs combustion gases out of the hut through a flue pipe) and the hut has also been positioned North with windows on all sides to capture sunlight, and to keep it nice and cozy inside. We however recommend bringing warm and snuggly clothes for cooler nights at the fire pit.

The hut is small (20m²), very cozy and sleeps two people in a Queen bed, it is equipped with full kitchenette (fridge, double gas cooker, kettle for your coffee or tea, cutlery, crockery, pots and pans are provided) dining table, a comfortable bench seat and a small bathroom with a flushing toilet. The exterior of the hut is surrounded by rolling hills and you might have cows grazing around the hut or you could spot wild deer while warming your toes and roasting marshmallows on the fire pit.

Hone your pizza making skills and make your very own using our gas pizza oven.

The hut has no WiFi and TV. Take this opportunity to unplug. But there is good cell service.

We are very rural and surrounded by farmland. We keep the hut very clean but you might hear the chirp of a cricket in the bathroom or find a moth fluttering near lamp by the bed, or spot a spider somewhere. You might even encounter mice during your stay since our area is in farm site. Nature’s local residents are our neighbors.

Sparrows Hut is located in a rural area. There is a long gravel driveway which leads to our farmhouse where you can park your car (boat and bikes).
Please note: this is a working livestock farm, please respect all gateways and remain on tracks provided. You might see us occasionally moving cows from one paddock to the next. However, we do endeavour to give you as much privacy as possible during your stay.

Other things to note
The hut is built on an exposed hill and it can get very windy from time to time.

We suggest you bring a few food supplies with you. There is a small shop which sells basic food items about 15 minutes’ drive away and a range of large supermarkets, 30 minutes’ drive from the hut. We do supply coffee, tea, sugar, salt, pepper, yeast, oil & vinegar.
All linen is provided, towels, body wash, shampoo and hand wash. We have two friendly dogs, please watch out for them when you come up the driveway.
