- "Avoca is an immaculate and well equipped cottage overlooking Whiting Bay . We enjoyed a pleasant week exploring the island" - "What a beautiful cottage and a perfect, relaxing break. Would recommend to anyone. Can't wait to come back!" - "I loved this house, a lot of thought and effort has gone into making this a special place to stay. We cooked a lot due to COVID restrictions and it was actually a pleasure as the kitchen was so nice and had everything you could possibly need. Great laundry facilities too and even a pulley which was brilliant! (I seriously need to get one). We had a few days of heavy rain but we didn’t mind being indoors as we enjoyed being in the house. We were lucky enough to see a red squirrel in the garden a few times. The garden is fully enclosed so it was great for our dog. The house was clean, comfortable and warm. It made our holiday really relaxing and enjoyable."

Guest Reviews:

- "The cottage is cosy, clean and very inviting. Shiskine is a wonderful place to stay, quiet and very appealing. It's very close to Blackwaterfoot, which is beautiful. The Kinloch Hotel does marvellous meals (takeaways too). What really makes the stay worthwhile is the landlady, Jan. Last year, when we couldn't get off the island due to ferry problems, Jan put us up for an extra with no charge. This year, the same problem occurred and, while we were at Lochranza, she texted me to check things were OK. I assured her we were going via Claonaig, but just the idea that she was thinking of us is above and beyond the call of duty. We'd thoroughly recommend this property to anyone. Visit Arran. Stay at Shiskine. You won't be disappointed."

- "The cottage was beautiful and had everything we needed for our Christmas break. Just a couple of comments, the shower curtain in the downstairs bathroom fell off a couple of times and we had to fix it. The parking could have been explained better as we were unsure where to park and neighbours asked us to move our car a couple of times." - "Stunning cottage, beautifully renovated-the owners have thought of absolutely everything and the cottage is clearly a work of love and passion. All services and amenities just down the road in Brodick. Altbeg really was the perfect holiday getaway, our only hesitation in reviewing it as highly as it deserves is we’d like to keep this wonderful discovery to ourselves 🥰"

Guest Reviews:

- "Our first impression of the stay was not a good one because the provided "get directions" link to Google Maps (and Google Maps searching itself) takes you to lat/long coordinates that are several hundred yards across away in a pasture. We pulled up at 9pm Saturday night and tried calling the number provided, and it said "office is closed" -- fortunately, there were people in a cottage at the wrong location who had seen the issue before and pointed us to the right place. The lockbox check in worked fine. Place was clean in general but had a musty smell, I think it was from the vacuum cleaner or something else in the front cabinet. It was not something that kept us from staying, so minor but wanted to mention it. We did like the location. The coin-fed operation of the electricity was annoying at times -- it cut off twice when someone was in the shower. (It is mentioned in the property description.) We like the little town of Lamlash, so no qualms about the location on the island. Overall, it is a cute little cottage and served its purpose. We did very much appreciate the 1GBP coins left by the owner so that we did not have to pay for the electricity ourselves. If that is the norm, they need to yank that thing out and remove the headache of feeding that machine for us renters. They need to fix the google maps location and directions link. All this said, we'd probably stay again now that we're familiar with the place's quirks."

- "The location was great, the static caravan was as you'd expect. It was definitely a 3 star. Not awful. Not great. Positives: Arran is beautifulSize of the placeComfortable furnitureOwner was friendly when we met themUnder different circumstances it could be a great stayThe decking is a sun trap in the late afternoon. The blankets smelled dirty and the place smelled damp when we first arrived. The owner let their dogs bother mine when we were just trying to relax on the decking, the dogs were trying to get in to our place.Another person who was related to the owner lost control of their dog who came inside our place. Dog poo left by others. The coin electric meters leave you worrying if you can have the heating on and washing dishes in cold water. And of course it cuts out when he runs out. There were a lot of small things that would make a difference, like marking car spaces. With the big lorry parked there it was really hard to get parked. Utensils were old, the tin opener literally fell apart. If the ad had been honest about the distance from the car to the accommodation I would have packed didn't. it's not easy to those high ones on a gravel path. We ended up being stuck in a conversation with someone who works there having a rant about other people who were visiting the owner, and all the problems they were having. It was a weird vibe. "

Lochranza sits at the northern end of the island of Arran, sheltered by the surrounding hills with the focal point of Lochranza Castle, sitting on a shingle spit into the loch. The village is built around the lochside and has many attractions, including one of the Isle of Arran Distilleries, a large population of red deer, golden eagles, seals, otters, and red squirrels, and an 18-hole golf course. There is a ferry terminus that allows quick access to the stunning west of Scotland via Claonaig, Kintyre. Ideal for active holidays, you can cycle round the island in a day, enjoy a walk-up Goat Fell, the island’s biggest mountain with spectacular views from the top, walk a section of the Arran Coastal Way, or there are beautiful golf courses if you like to take things a little more slowly. Wherever you go, you are surrounded by Arran’s breathtaking scenery. The wildlife on Arran is abundant, and you may just catch a glimpse of otters, eagles, basking sharks, porpoises but you will most definitely see seal colonies and so many species of birds. There’s plenty of history, at Brodick Castle, the ancient seat of power, or Lochranza Castle, with its underground prison. Arran is also well known for its local produce, so it’s a great chance to enjoy the local cheese, beer, whisky, and craft botanical drinks.

Travel to Arran is via a Caledonian MacBrayne ferry. The main, most popular ferry is from Ardrossan in Ayrshire to Brodick on the island, which takes 55 minutes. Vehicle reservations are recommended. Ardrossan has a mainline rail station, with trains to Glasgow that connect with the ferry times and is approximately thirty miles from Glasgow city centre. You can also travel from Claonaig, just south of Tarbert in Kintyre to Lochranza, at the north end of Arran, which takes 30 minutes. The island has an ever-increasing number of Electric vehilcle charging points.

Outside in the gardens and woodland you'll find our brand new wood fired sauna, situated next to a stream with cold plunge pool.

For family entertainment there is a games room with pool table, table tennis and table football.

Arran is a haven for dogs, and we happily welcome one dog per cottage. Please note that, due to our proximity to livestock and our free-range chickens, dogs must be on a lead while on the property.

Generally, we have room for two cars per cottage, but if you plan to bring more vehicles, please let us know in advance so that we can do our best to make sure we can fit everyone in!

Guest access
Guests enjoy exclusive access to the entire cottage. Additionally, our expansive garden, woodlands, games room, laundry facilities, and off-road parking are communal amenities shared among our trio of cottages at Hamilton Cottages - Rosa Cottage, Shurig Cottage, and Ashdale Cottage.

During the summer season, our garden becomes a haven for bird enthusiasts, thanks to the diverse avian species in the area. However, it's the charming red squirrels that capture our guests' hearts. On top of that, we proudly maintain bee hives and a friendly flock of chickens, adding a touch of rural charm to your stay.

Other things to note
Guests will have full use of our large games room which includes a pool table, full size table tennis table and table football. In addition there are toys and drawing stuff for the smaller guests.
The garden, onto which the cottage opens via a decked patio, has picnic tables and is ideal for summer barbecues.
There is Wifi access in the cottage.

Lovely cottage on Arran sleeping 5
Cottage
Lochranza

Ermedale is a traditional 1930s cottage located on the shores of Loch Ranza with splendid views of the surrounding hills, loch and castle. The cottage can sleep 6 (max 5 adults or children aged 10+). It has a double bedroom and a twin bedroom leading off the entrance hall and - somewhat quirkily - a further double bedroom, accessed through the front twin. There are large front and back gardens, with seating and stunning views.

The space
NOTES: As a result of limited facilities for laundry we ask you to bring your own bed linen (sheets, pillowslips and duvet covers) and bath towels. If you cannot manage this please contact us and we can arrange something at an extra charge.

The living room leads through to a fully equipped kitchen and dining area. There are also two bathrooms, both of which are equipped with showers (no baths). One bathroom is ensuite to the front double, accessed through the twin bedroom.

The sitting room is small and comfortable for 5 adults. There is no additional charge for infants. A folding cot is available if required (mattress measures 94 cm x 65 cm).

Guest access
The whole of the property is accessible including front hut except for the loft space (ladder access only hence not accessible or suitable in terms of fire hazard) and the back hut.

Other things to note
The Scottish short term let license number is: NA00400F. The license is for 5 people aged 10+ so it can sleep, for example, 5 adults and a child below 10 years old (max 6 occupants).

Note that Ermedale was internally extensively refurbished in 2023-24 to improve its environmental performance and comfort via additional wall and floor insulation, double glazing, providing an air-to-air heating system along with refitted kitchen, bathroom and carpets. Additional fire and security updates are in accordance with Scottish law. The EPC rating was assessed in November 2024 as improving from F25 to E47. Note that while this is a considerable improvement we had expected better. We understand the EPC tool had not been updated at the time to accommodate air-to-air heat pumps fully and struggles somewhat with mixed construction periods. However the outcome can be felt irrespective of this… Please enjoy!

Please note that the farm track is a rural farm road (approx. 700 metres) and the final section of the track leading up to the property is steep and bumpy which can be tricky for some vehicles especially in adverse weather. We recommend guests with lower clearance cars or those unfamiliar with rural roads to take care when navigating this part. We recommend driving cautiously and would be happy to provide more details and tips upon request!

During the summer season, our garden becomes a haven for bird enthusiasts, thanks to the diverse avian species in the area. However, it's the charming red squirrels that often capture our guests' hearts. On top of that, we proudly maintain bee hives and a friendly flock of chickens, adding a touch of rural charm to your stay.

Other things to note
Shurig Cottage has excellent WIFI internet access, under cover bike storage, access to large games room, separate laundry with outdoor clothes drying facilities.

Isle of Arran Crofter's Cottage at Heather Park
Cottage
Ayrshire

Lovely, warm, fully modernized cottage set in 3 acre garden with spectacular views across Lamlash bay. Surrounded by forest, fields and abundant wildlife, yet 500 meters down a beautifully wooded (and occasionally steep!) track are the yacht harbour and all village amenities, including shops, tea rooms, restaurants, pubs, playgrounds, beaches, etc.

The space
Heather Park is a fully-renovated typical island crofter's cottage. It has beds for eight (or even nine or ten if you must) and two bathrooms (two toilets, two showers, but only one bath). It is neat, clean, cozy and warm, with a wood-burning fireplace in the living room and geothermal heating throughout. It is filled with beautiful artwork by acclaimed local artists. The kitchen, conservatory and lounge are spacious and can each easily accommodate 8. The house is isolated and quiet, surrounded by fields and trees and nature, but also only a ten-minute (and occasionally steep) hike up a delightful wooded track from the village's central yacht harbour, pier and amenities like pubs, shops, market, tea rooms, golf course, tennis, pharmacy, etc. Wireless internet, tv and hundreds of dvd's, board games, puzzles and books are all available for your use.

Guest access
Our guests have full access to all the grounds of the property. They have exclusive use of the cottage, which includes the spacious kitchen, a lounge with fireplace in the longhouse (we give you kindling and a bag of 8-9 logs for every 2-3 days booked, and more wood is inexpensive and available on site or in local shops), a conservatory with spectacular views, three bedrooms (one downstairs, two upstairs), two bathrooms ( with two toilets, two showers, but only one bath) and a dining room with table for eight. There is ample parking on site.

Other things to note
The property is frequently visited by woodland creatures such as red squirrels, pheasants, rabbits, many kinds of garden birds and owls, and, in the horse paddock at the back, deer. For this reason we do not want pet dogs on the property.
Please note that the track is steep in sections, and the walk up the hill can be strenuous, especially for very small children and for elderly guests, who can take longer than ten minutes to walk it. The track has been concreted for easy and secure driving (see photos).
