I also rent a Forester Fisher 18 foot pontoon for the length of your stay only but it is priced so you pay for 5 days and get 2 free. Prices vary so contact me for details. See pics. I am very reasonable on rates compared to local Marine rentals and monitor the prices regularly. (Please note that a Boat Operators license/safety certificate is required to rent a boat in MN as of July 1, 2025. See the MN DNR boating regulations page to obtain one.) In addition, I also want to insure that the renter of the pontoon in your group has had experience with a boat or pontoon before renting.
My place is a highly rated Norway pine lodge on a sand beach and crystal clear Little Bass Lake! Great fishing from the docks, diving dock or out on this deep lake (72 feet). Kayaks, canoe, paddleboat and paddleboard and water mat provided.
I have a Four season hand-scribed log home on Little Bass lake on a private 5.0 acre lot at end of dead end road. Only 1 distant neighbor. Interior finished with knotty pine ceiling and Australian Cyprus wood floors, and Tamarack paneling. Huge Lake superior stone real fireplace with firewood provided. Full kitchen including fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, stove, oven and center island and all the utensils for cooking. Watch the stars and northern lights from the large deck facing the quiet bay at the South end of Little Bass Lake. There is good fishing right from docks. A-Frame vaulted ceilings with master BR and bath in loft. Main floor has 2 large bedrooms, full bathroom, kitchen and great room and has a 4 season porch that is great for family meals any time of year. The walkout basement is unfinished but there are laundry facilities and an elliptical for use by guests.
The campfire pit makes an excellent spot for conversation, singalongs and S'mores. Firewood provided.
A 150-acre 70 foot deep lake, Little Bass has an abundant fishery including northern pike, large mouth bass, good crappie fishing, and even the occasional walleye. You will want to fish for walleye early or late as its such a clear body of water:)
See the beach pics. Sand beach for building sand castles and sand bottom out to 5 feet. There is a diving dock platform to swim or kayak to.
There is also great cross country skiing, downhill skiing/tubing, hiking and bike trail system close by in the Chippewa National Forest. Just google Itasca county trails or Mount Itasca to find them
Broadband wireless internet and basic cable TV included with a smart tv for streaming. A public boat access on lake makes it convenient to launch your boat. Plenty of dock space for your boat on the docks at my property. I do have a pontoon but will only rent to people I have talked to and can be assured know how to operate it. If interested please let me know.
I also have a high chair and a pack n play for infant guests!
Thanks! Randy
Ps: my cleaners are excellent and sanitize all surfaces. I’ve received many compliments. My cleaning fee is less than what they charge me.
PPS: Sustainable practices: In addition to recycling bins in the basement which are clearly labeled, you are coming to a Forest and I love trees. You will see that I have planted many white and red pines on the property and that I nurture them. And though I try to insure a view of the lake from the lodge, I have worked hard not to cut down any more trees that necessary in the building process. So I think of my lodge as my 'treehouse'. Trees as you know take carbon out of the atmosphere. And of course looking at their beauty in addition to the water and blue skies always makes me feel calm and at ease. There are views of the lake from lodge but it is also very forest like and private at the lodge. A short walk to the beach gives you the full beach and lake experience.
- "Love the property and the seclusion. A beautiful lake is the icing on the cake. A fantastic spot for a group of friends to get together for the weekend" - "We had a great time at Randy’s beautiful log home. The place was very clean, beds were comfortable. My kids ranging in age from 8 to 18 all had a great time. My daughter filled the house with music playing the piano for us. I enjoyed my coffee on the peaceful deck and we enjoyed lots of family meals in the 3 season porch. Then bonfires in the evening to end the day. All the wood was cut, split and ready for us when we got there. We all really enjoyed the lake and beach. We were able to take the pontoon out fishing and for sunset cruises. We spent a ton of time swimming, jumping off the raft, kayaking, paddle boarding and just sitting on the beach. Randy was very responsive and eager to help with anything that we needed. We can’t wait to go back and make more memories."

About Siseebakwet (Sugar) Lake
Quick Facts
• Siseebakwet Lake has 1,306 acres of some of the clearest water in Itasca County. The lake, which is commonly referred to as Sugar Lake, received its lengthy name from its early inhabitants, the Ojibway tribe, who called it "Ziinzibaakwad." This term means "sugar." It has a maximum depth of 105 feet and contains 5.8 miles of shoreline. There are two inlets, Sugar Brook from the west connecting Little Siseebakwet and Spring Lake(s) and a channel connecting South Sugar Lake from the southwest. The outlet, Sugar Brook, ultimately connects to Pokegama Lake to the east. However, a low head dam at the outlet of Siseebakwet likely limits fish immigration. Siseebakwet Lake is connected to its much smaller sister lake to the south, called South Sugar Lake. This 82-acre lake can be accessed through a narrow canal, which only small boats can pass through. There is also a small public access to land a small boat. Both of these lakes are great fisheries (See Fishing in “Activities” section below). The entire west end of Sugar lake was willed to the Department of Natural Resources, and is forever protected from development. This is a great place to view wildlife, as it is host to Bald Eagle, duck, and loon nests. It is also very common to see whitetail deer, beaver, fisher, fox and occasionally a grey wolf or black bear.
Northern MN Tropics?
• In the summer months, namely July and August, it is common to see turquoise waters of Sugar Lake light up like the Caribbean. There are only a handful of lakes in the state that experience this rare phenomenon. The combination of water clarity and mineral composition cause the lake to sparkle like the Mediterranean on a sunny day. So if you haven’t experienced Sugar Lake in the summer months, it is a must do for the bucket list!
What to do?
Summer
• Boating – The 6 miles of Shoreline make it a perfect afternoon activity to putts around the lake in the pontoon or your boat (ask about renting a boat, pontoon, or jetski during your stay). Pack up your cooler and grab some apps and explore the lake. The ‘tour’ will take you anywhere from 1 to 3 hours depending on how you push the throttle. Ask how to get into South Sugar Lake. Accessible by jet ski, Kayak, Canoe, or Small boat (16’ or less). South Sugar Lake is a much different experience and worth the little extra effort.
• SUPing and Canoeing – The Crystal Turquoise waters are perfect for the Stand Up Paddle board experience. There is also a Canoe available to skirt the waters like the Ojibwa used to.
• Fishing – Sugar lake is spectacular fishery. Home to Walleye, Northern Pike, Small Mouth Bass, Large Mouth Bass, Blue Gill, Sunfish, Whitefish, Eel Pout, crappie and Sucker; you are bound to put something in the live well. Fishing is best on Sugar early morning and evening, but with the right lure and bait Fish can be caught throughout the day. With adequate structure, feed, weed beds, and depths, Sugar will keep you interested. If you are looking for that trophy 30” walleye or, that Pig Pike, Sugar is your place. For an entire different fishing experience, try South Sugar. South Sugar is an action packed lake full of Bass and Pan fish. This a great place to bring the kids if you are looking for a lot of action. Talk to Lewie if your are interested in spending the day with a local fishing guide.
• Golfing – There are 3 great golf options all within 15 short minutes away. Sugar Brooke Golf course is just across the bay at Sugar Lake Lodge. Sugar Brooke is both challenging and affordable, and the best part is that you can boat to your tee-time. http://www.sugarlakelodge.com/the-resort/golf
Other great options close by are Pokegama Golf Course and Eagle’s Ridge.
http://golfeagleridge.com/ http://www.pokegamagolf.com/
• Mountain Biking and Hiking – Please reference the trail guide for awesome opportunities for hiking and mountain biking in the area. Sugar Hills, A former ski resort, is just steps away from the cabin. There are enough trails here to keep you busy for days, and there is adequate elevation for good down hill action as well. The rolling hardwoods and great vistas make the sugar hills a hidden gem.
Winter
• Snowmobiling – “The Shore” is a very centralized location for a mecca of groomed trail systems and lake riding. See the trail map for loops and options locally, or consult us for a ‘custom’ route; guided trips and Sled rentals available. Ask for further details.
• X-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing – The Sugar Hills are locally maintained for both classic and skate skiing alike. This gem of a trail system is just steps from the comfort of the cabin, and has loops to appeal to all skill levels. Another great option is to skirt the entire perimeter of Sugar Lake. This 5.8 mile loop is great exercise and great fun. The “shingle mill” logging road system also offers hundreds of miles of pristine, wild trails to get lost in. Ask about how to get here.
• Ice Fishing – Sugar is a great lake for ice-fishing, but is usually one of the last in the area to freeze over. Consult with us to determine if the conditions are safe before venturing out.
• Snow biking - Once again, the Sugar hills offer great opportunities for this growing recreation. Shingle Mill roads, also offer up miles of terrain to explore.
• Sledding – The sugar hills are a great place to get some speed behind that saucer or toboggan.
• Spend the evening in the Tee-Pee – If you want to get a real idea of how the Ojibwa used to do it (minus the convenient propane heater) Set up a little picnic in the Tee-Pee. Light the lantern, play a board game, and let your imagination wander to centuries past.
A couple things to note (summer AND winter)
• Bon-Fire – Please enjoy the bonfire. We chose the location as it is great vantage for sunsets , as well as nice breeze to keep the bugs away. However, be aware of the proximity to the bank as it would be one hellova tumble. Also, you are welcome to use some split wood to get the fire going, but please try to use the ‘bonfire wood’ - the un-split logs to keep your fire cranking.
• Toilet and Water Usage – The cabin is on a very fragile septic system, so keep that in mind when using the plumbing. Only flush toilet paper and human waste down the toilet, as anything else would damage the system. The Tap water comes from a shallow well, about 25’ deep. The tap water is just fine to drink. From the well, the water goes through a whole house filter, and then goes through a water softening system before it makes it to the faucet. There is a little more iron in the water than conventional city water, but many people prefer the taste. If it isn’t for you, please enjoy the filtered water form the fridge. The water here has been through yet another filtration process. There is a PVC pipe petruding through the East side of the cabin. This comes from the sump pump and is the excess water from when the softener system recharges itself.
• Shoreline – The Sugar Shore’s beachfront is 150’ of beautiful hard sand beach. The drop-off is very gradual, which makes it great for kids. We do our best to pick rocks, but every winter the ice carves and digs them back up again. We recommend bringing Teva’s or water shoes to keep feet from getting sore.
• Trash - Please put trash bags in the exterior canisters, and remember the cover. Raccoons will help themselves otherwise.
• Grill – The igniter switch sometimes doesn’t work, so please use the igniter wand provided. Please turn Propane tank off and cover when done.
• Fireplace – The damper should be open, and the fireplace drafts naturally. Please Keep Grate over fireplace when a fire is burning. The hardwoods will snap and kick embers otherwise.
Around the Shore
• Lake and Company – a socially conscious magazine and shop, carefully curated with a give-back message that supports adventure, innovation, conservation, and community built around lake culture. Pick up your complimentary copy included in your stay. Check out the website/blog to see what is going on when you are in the area.

- "A lake place, just like the ones I remembered when I lived in Minnesota. Growing up, we all went to “the lake” every weekend. Sometimes people thought everyone went to the same lake! But no, going to the lake meant staying at a “cabin” that wasn’t winterized. Now the cabin at the lake can be a modern house, like this vrbo. Complete with a mated pair of loons that called to each other several times a day. The lake itself was clean and clear, and beautiful, and no noisy jet skis and speed boats. Perfect."

- "My family of four stayed here for our yearly summer vacation and this was the best place we’ve ever rented, by far. The house: is beautiful and clean and has obviously been completely renovated (by someone who should be an interior designer if they aren’t)! It was much bigger than we needed, but it was nice to spread out and have our teenagers get some alone time ;). The beds were super comfortable, the kitchen is perfect with newer appliances, there are great TVs in every room, the Wi-Fi is fast, washer dryer air conditioning, this place has everything you need. Basement has Game room! The Lake: I had heard about the Tioga pit but didn’t believe it could be true about the blue clear water, but WOW it is amazing. I’m not a big fan of swimming in lakes, even though my kids are, but we swam in that lake multiple times each day and it was so refreshing and clear… you could see your toes no matter how deep you go! while fishing, I literally watched the fish take the bait! The lake is the perfect size, not a bunch of motor boats zipping around, but big enough to kayak around and so beautiful. At times it seems like our own private lake. No weeds! The eagles and loons think it’s great too! The property: Private!! Quiet!! Beautiful! Surrounded by trees except for the space that has the perfect view! We didn’t have a problem with bugs are mosquitoes (wear bugspray at twilight). Even the fire pit ring is custom made with the Tioga logo. We will be booking again.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟"

Our only disappointment was the lake was so large and it was so windy we couldn’t enjoy the lake as much as we wanted." - "Quiet location. Clean units. Owners onsite and we’re helpful as needed. Would recommend." - "We rented both sides of this cabin for a 3-day stay while in town for business. The place was perfect for our needs. As an extra bonus, there are two solid twin-size bunk beds for 4 extra sleeping spaces.
The front yard gradually leads you to the large fire pit and makes for breath-taking star gazing. The massive driveway allows many cars, boats, snowmobiles, you name it to comfortably park. There is plenty of grass space for an RV and trails to play and explore around the property.
Added amenities include a Sonos speaker system with speakers installed throughout the house – listen to music in all rooms or one room but not another, jog stroller, high-chair, pack and play, dog toys, a cupboard full of board games and puzzles (in the kitchen island across from the windows), baby gate, beach towels, kids’ life jackets, and an adult-size electric bike that can be rented separately (contact host for more details).

- "Very nice property!" - "Beautiful setting, spectacular home, secluded neighborhood; this property provided exactly what we were looking for in a week on the lake." - "My husband, our 2 adult daughters plus a "could be?".! came to celebrate Christmas with my 92 year old father. It was absolutely perfect! Christmas is a big deal in our family and our host made her home Christmas cozy and wonderful. My Father lives 5 minutes away in Assisted Living and was able to enjoy visiting everyday. He misses seeing the lake and a fireplace so much but was able to have a great Christmas week enjoying both. We can't thank you enough Kathy for your hospitality, extra touches and your beautiful home. (She even made sure a wheelchair ramp was installed to bring dad in.). Cooking was fantastic in the beautiful and fully equipped kitchen with views out to the lake. Each of the bedrooms were luxurious. The great room was spectacular with it's view over Pokegama and fireplace. We all ventured out to the lake for a walk on the ice. We also rent out our lake home in the Adirondack Mountains on VRBO and so appreciated all the extra effort she gave to making us feel at home! Thank you SO much Kathy!!! Hope to be back."

This cozy cabin is a tribute to days gone by when the cabin was just a place to keep your duffle and the real fun was on the dock, around the fire pit, and cooling off in the lake. We've added some modern comforts (even a TV!), but you still get that rustic experience of getting back to the basics that has captured the hearts of travelers for generations.
CABIN
The large windows have exceptional lake views and let in natural light all day long. The kitchen is well stocked- expect everything you need, but you'll never hear us describe it as 'luxury'. There is indoor and outdoor dining space. One bedroom has a king bed, the other bedroom has a built-in queen bed. There is a large heater the keeps the cabin toasty all winter (the floor stays cool, so slippers are recommended). The boathouse is not heated. The boathouse is usable through May-October, it's not heated.
We do our absolute best to keep pests outside, but the 1950's cabin construction is not bug-tight.
PROPERTY
The property is very quiet and tucked away on a dead-end road across from the Tioga Rec Area (home to world class MTB trails, hiking, mine-pit swimming, snowshoeing, and fat-biking!). The nearest trail access is just a minute ride from your doorstep. South facing views from the elevated property look out onto Pokegama's largest bay and you can catch sunrises and sunsets from the cabin. Other outdoor amenities include a firepit, free firewood for bonfires and sauna, gas grill, and screen porch. There are seasonal neighbors on both sides, but most guests say that it feels very private.
LAKEFRONT
There is a short set of stairs down to the lake. We have a dock with space to park your boat. The lake is clear and clean with a sandy bottom, pebble shoreline, and views that stretch for miles. Enjoy both the sunrises and sunsets over beautiful Sugar Bay.
SAUNA
The 4 person cedar barrel sauna is wood fired. It's a short walk down the stairs to the lake for post-sauna dips.
INCLUDED IN YOUR STAY:
+ 2 Paddleboards
+ 2 Kayaks
+ Firewood
+ Towels & Linens
+ Coffee (French Press stocked in kitchen)
+ Propane for gas grill
- "This cabins location is unbeatable. Amazing biking trails and lake access all without having to drive from the cabin. The cabin was everything that our family needed. Clean, comfortable eith the added bonus of kayaks and the use of the boat house. It felt like everything a quintessential Minnesota get-away should be. Our family cant wait to go back." - "We had a fabulous time! The setting is absolutely perfect - everything you would want in a north woods cabin! The screened patio was a great place to eat, drink, and the enjoy the amazing view of Lake Pokegama! We plan on booking again!"

Near Tioga Recreation Area mountain bike trails, area golf courses and ATV/Snowmobile trails. - "The house was very large with plenty of room for 7 adults, 2 kids, and dogs to stretch out both inside and out. The screen house with fridge was great, and we appreciated all the fire wood for the fire pit. Kelly was great at communicating any questions I had before our trip. Zorbaz or the Pickled Loon are a boat ride or short drive away." - "We truly enjoyed our stay at this place. We wish the weather would have treated us better, but nobody can control that."

- "We enjoyed a long weekend here, it’s set back in the woods and can hardly see the neighbors place. There are many stairs though so be aware if anyone in your group is challenged by that. Would for sure stay here again." - "We had an amazing time staying here! Maria was so helpful in getting everything organized, and she so kindly provided thoughtful details like makeup wipes and Evian waters! Our group had a relaxing weekend and we couldn’t recommend this space more."

Looking for lakeside retreat reminiscent of simpler times? This original 1950s cabin offers a peaceful getaway tucked in nature, it’s tiny but full of character, perfect for those seeking the charm of a bygone era...and who appreciate the rustic experience that comes with it.
The cabin is nestled on a small lot with a few seasonal neighbors, but with Lake Pokegama in front and 100's of acres of Tioga Rec Area in back, it's a quiet escape with excellent access to outdoor activities.
The space
This cozy cabin is a tribute to days gone by when the cabin was just a place to keep your duffle and the real fun was on the dock, around the fire pit, and cooling off in the lake. We've added some modern comforts (even a TV!), but you still get that rustic experience of getting back to the basics that has captured the hearts of travelers for generations.
CABIN
The large windows have exceptional lake views and let in natural light all day long. The kitchen is well stocked- expect everything you need, but you'll never hear us describe it as 'luxury'. There is indoor and outdoor dining space. The larger bedroom has a king bed, the smaller bedroom has a queen bed, and there is a sleeper sofa in the boathouse. There is a large heater the keeps the cabin toasty all winter (the floor stays cool, so slippers are recommended). The boathouse is not heated and is usable through May-October.
Other outdoor amenities include firepits near the patio and at the lake, Adirondacks, a gas grill, driveway to the lake for unloading boats, and secure storage for gear. There are seasonal neighbors on both sides, but most guests say that they have plenty of privacy.
LAKEFRONT
There is a short flight of stairs down to the lake as. We have a dock with space to park your boat. The lake is clear and clean with a sandy shoreline and views that stretch for miles. Enjoy both the sunrises and sunsets over beautiful Sugar Bay.
SAUNA
